Recent Advances in Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods
Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
The growing global emphasis on health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention has spurred rapid innovation in nutraceuticals and functional foods. Positioned at the intersection of nutrition and medicine, these products deliver bioactive compounds that go beyond basic nutrition to support the prevention and management of chronic diseases. This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances and emerging trends in the discovery, development, and application of functional ingredients. It welcomes interdisciplinary research that bridges fundamental science and industrial application, fostering the development of safe, effective, and sustainable nutraceuticals and functional foods. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, novel processing and extraction technologies; characterization of bioactive compounds such as peptides and phytochemicals; and elucidation of structure–function relationships and mechanisms of action. Cutting-edge approaches—including omics technologies, artificial intelligence-assisted modeling, and machine learning—are increasingly shaping the design and evaluation of next-generation nutraceuticals, and contributions in these areas are particularly encouraged. Submissions addressing advanced delivery systems to enhance stability and bioavailability, as well as the incorporation of proteins, carbohydrates, and alternative or sustainable ingredients, are especially welcome. In addition, studies on sensory optimization, food safety, and regulatory considerations are of particular interest, given their importance for successful product development and consumer acceptance.

Preprints.org is a multidisciplinary platform offering a preprint service designed to facilitate the early sharing of your research. It supports and empowers your research journey from the very beginning.
MDPI Topics is collaborating with Preprints.org and has established a direct connection between MDPI journals and the platform. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by posting their preprints at Preprints.org prior to publication:
- Share your research immediately: disseminate your ideas prior to publication and establish priority for your work.
- Safeguard your intellectual contribution: Protect your ideas with a time-stamped preprint that serves as proof of your research timeline.
- Boost visibility and impact: Increase the reach and influence of your research by making it accessible to a global audience.
- Gain early feedback: Receive valuable input and insights from peers before submitting to a journal.
- Ensure broad indexing: Web of Science (Preprint Citation Index), Google Scholar, Crossref, SHARE, PrePubMed, Scilit and Europe PMC.
