Dear Colleagues,
Microorganisms are integral components of human-associated microbial ecosystems, where complex interactions between microbial communities and the host play essential roles in maintaining health and driving inflammatory diseases. Advances in sequencing technologies, systems microbiology, and multi-omics approaches have greatly enhanced our understanding of how microbial dysbiosis, biofilms, microbial metabolites, and host immune responses contribute to the initiation, progression, and resolution of inflammation. Elucidating these mechanisms is essential for identifying novel biomarkers and developing effective strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammation-associated diseases.
This Special Issue focuses on the mechanisms by which microorganisms regulate host inflammatory responses through host–microbe interactions. We welcome original research, review articles, and short communications addressing microbial dysbiosis, biofilms, microbial metabolites, host immune responses, oral microbiomes, oral pathogens, and other clinically relevant microorganisms involved in inflammatory diseases. Studies employing multi-omics approaches to elucidate inflammation-related microbial mechanisms and identify diagnostic or therapeutic targets are also encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Microbiology Research is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
