The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants highlights the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies, particularly entry inhibitors that could efficiently prevent viral infection. Medicinal herbs and herbal combination formulas have long been recognized for their effects in treating infectious diseases and their antiviral properties, thus providing abundant resources for the discovery of antiviral candidates. While many candidates have been suggested to have antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 infection, few have been validated for their mechanisms, including possible effects on viral entry. This study aimed to identify SARS-CoV-2 entry inhibitors from medicinal herbs and herbal formulas that are known for heat-clearing and detoxifying properties and/or antiviral activities. A SARS-CoV-2 pseudoparticle (SARS-CoV-2pp) system was used to assess mechanism-specific entry inhibition. Our results showed that the methanol extract of Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizome, as well as the water extracts of Cimicifuga foetida rhizome, Xiao Chai Hu Tang (XCHT), and Sheng Ma Ge Gen Tang (SMGGT), have substantial inhibitory effects on the entry of SARS-CoV-2pps into host cells. Given the observation that Cimicifuga foetida exhibited the most potent inhibition and is a constituent of SMGGT, we further investigated the major compounds of the herb and identified caffeic acid as a bioactive component for blocking SARS-CoV-2pp entry. Entry inhibition of Cimicifuga foetida and caffeic acid was validated on both wild-type and the currently dominant JN.1 strain SARS-CoV-2pp systems. Moreover, caffeic acid was able to both inactivate the pseudoparticles and prevent their entry into pretreated host cells. The results support the traditional use of these herbal medicines and underscore their potential as valuable resources for identifying active compounds and developing therapeutic entry inhibitors for the management of COVID-19. Traditional unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) detection and tracking methods have long faced the twin challenges of high cost and poor efficiency. In real-world battlefield environments with complex backgrounds, occlusions, and varying speeds, existing techniques struggle to track small UAVs accurately and stably. To tackle these issues, this paper presents an enhanced YOLOv8N-Drone-based algorithm for improved target tracking of small UAVs. Firstly, a novel module named C2f-DSFEM (Depthwise-Separable and Sobel Feature Enhancement Module) is designed, integrating Sobel convolution with depthwise separable convolution across layers. Edge detail extraction and multi-scale feature representation are synchronized through a bidirectional feature enhancement mechanism, and the discriminability of target features in complex backgrounds is thus significantly enhanced. For the feature confusion problem, the improved lightweight Context Anchored Attention (CAA) mechanism is integrated into the Neck network, which effectively improves the system’s adaptability to complex scenes. By employing a position-aware weight allocation strategy, this approach enables adaptive suppression of background interference and precise focus on the target region, thereby improving localization accuracy. At the level of loss function optimization, the traditional classification loss is replaced by the focal loss (Focal Loss). This mechanism effectively suppresses the contribution of easy-to-classify samples through a dynamic weight adjustment strategy, while significantly increasing the priority of difficult samples in the training process. The class imbalance that exists between the positive and negative samples is then significantly mitigated. Experimental results show the enhanced YOLOv8 boosts mean average precision (Map@0.5) by 12.3%, hitting 99.2%. In terms of tracking performance, the proposed YOLOv8 N-Drone algorithm achieves a 19.2% improvement in Multiple Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) under complex multi-scenario conditions. Additionally, the IDF1 score increases by 6.8%, and the number of ID switches is reduced by 85.2%, indicating significant improvements in both accuracy and stability of UAV tracking. Compared to other mainstream algorithms, the proposed improved method demonstrates significant advantages in tracking performance, offering a more effective and reliable solution for small-target tracking tasks in UAV applications. Mars has been a primary focus of planetary science, with significant advancements over the past two decades across disciplines including geological evolution, surface environment, and atmospheric and space science. However, the rapid growth of the related literature has rendered traditional manual review methods increasingly inadequate. This inadequacy is particularly evident in interdisciplinary research, which is often characterized by dispersed topics and complex semantics. To address this challenge, this study proposes an automated analysis framework based on natural language processing (NLP) to systematically review the Martian research in Earth and space science over the past two decades. The research database contains 151,196 Mars-related sentences extracted from 10,655 publications spanning 2001 to 2024. Using machine learning techniques, the framework clusters Mars-related sentences into semantically coherent groups and applies topic modeling to extract core research themes. It then analyzes their temporal evolution across the Martian solid, surface, atmosphere, and space environments. Finally, through sentiment analysis and semantic matching, it highlights unresolved scientific questions and potential directions for future research. This approach offers a novel perspective on the knowledge structure underlying Mars exploration and demonstrates the potential of NLP for large-scale literature analysis in planetary science. The findings potentially provide a structured foundation for building an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed Mars knowledge base, which may inform future scientific research and mission planning. To meet the demands for real-time and accurate fault warning of wind turbine gear transmission systems, this study proposes an innovative intelligent warning method based on the integration of digital twin and multi-source data fusion. A digital twin system architecture is developed, comprising a high-precision geometric model and a dynamic mechanism model, enabling real-time interaction and data fusion between the physical transmission system and its virtual model. At the algorithmic level, a CNN-LSTM-Attention fault prediction model is proposed, which innovatively integrates the spatial feature extraction capabilities of a convolutional neural network (CNN), the temporal modeling advantages of long short-term memory (LSTM), and the key information-focusing characteristics of an attention mechanism. Experimental validation shows that this model outperforms traditional methods in prediction accuracy. Specifically, it achieves average improvements of 0.3945, 0.546 and 0.061 in Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and R-squared (R2) metrics, respectively. Building on the above findings, a monitoring and early warning platform for the wind turbine transmission system was developed, integrating digital twin visualization with intelligent prediction functions. This platform enables a fully intelligent process from data acquisition and status evaluation to fault warning, providing an innovative solution for the predictive maintenance of wind turbines. Accurately assessing the depth of anaesthesia in animals remains a challenge, as traditional monitoring methods fail to capture subtle changes in brain activity. This review aimed to systematically map and critically evaluate the range of quantitative variables derived from electroencephalography (EEG) used to monitor sedation or anaesthesia in live animals, excluding laboratory rodents, over the past 35 years. Studies were identified through comprehensive searches in major biomedical databases (PubMed, Embase, CAB Abstract). To be included, studies had to report EEG use in relation to anaesthesia or sedation in living animals. A total of 169 studies were selected after screening and data extraction. Information was charted by animal species and reported EEG-derived variables. The most frequently reported variables were spectral edge frequencies, spectral power metrics, suppression ratio, and proprietary indices, such as the Bispectral Index. Methodological variability was high, and no consensus emerged on optimal EEG measures across species. While EEG-derived quantitative variables provide valuable insights, their interpretation remains highly context-dependent. Further research is necessary to refine these methods, explore variable combinations, and improve their clinical relevance in veterinary medicine. Full article

Knowledge graph technology holds significant importance for efficient fault diagnosis in household appliances. However, the scarcity of public fault diagnosis data and the lack of automated knowledge extraction pose major challenges to knowledge graph construction. To address issues such as ambiguous entity boundaries, severe entity nesting, and poor entity extraction performance in fault diagnosis texts, this paper proposes a dual-strategy progressive knowledge extraction framework. First, to tackle the high complexity of fault diagnosis texts, an entity recognition model named RoBERTa-zh-BiLSTM-MUL-CRF is designed, improving the accuracy of nested entity extraction. Second, leveraging the semantic understanding capability of large language models, a progressive prompting strategy is adopted for ontology alignment and relation extraction, achieving automated knowledge extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed named entity recognition model outperforms traditional models, with improvements of 3.87%, 5.82%, and 2.05% in F1-score, recall, and precision, respectively. Additionally, the large language model demonstrates better performance in ontology alignment compared to traditional machine learning models. The constructed knowledge graph for household appliance fault diagnosis integrates structured fault diagnosis information. It effectively processes unstructured fault texts and supports visual queries and entity tracing. This framework can assist maintenance personnel in making rapid judgments, thereby improving fault diagnosis efficiency. Full article

Epilepsy is a prevalent neurological disorder affecting approximately 50 million individuals worldwide. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals play a vital role in the diagnosis and analysis of epileptic seizures. However, traditional machine learning techniques often rely on handcrafted features, limiting their robustness and generalizability across diverse EEG acquisition settings, seizure types, and patients. To address these limitations, we propose RDPNet, a multi-scale residual dilated pyramid network with entropy-guided feature fusion for automated epileptic EEG classification. RDPNet combines residual convolution modules to extract local features and a dilated convolutional pyramid to capture long-range temporal dependencies. A dual-pathway fusion strategy integrates pooled and entropy-based features from both shallow and deep branches, enabling robust representation of spatial saliency and statistical complexity. We evaluate RDPNet on two benchmark datasets: the University of Bonn and TUSZ. On the Bonn dataset, RDPNet achieves 99.56–100% accuracy in binary classification, 99.29–99.79% in ternary tasks, and 95.10% in five-class classification. On the clinically realistic TUSZ dataset, it reaches a weighted F1-score of 95.72% across seven seizure types. Compared with several baselines, RDPNet consistently outperforms existing approaches, demonstrating superior robustness, generalizability, and clinical potential for epileptic EEG analysis. The global spread of Mpox virus (MPXV) underscores the urgent need for rapid, field-deployable diagnostic tools, especially in low-resource settings. We evaluated a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay, termed LAMPOX, developed by Coris BioConcept. The assay was tested in three formats—two liquid versions and a dried, ready-to-use version—targeting only the ORF F3L (Liquid V1) or both the ORF F3L and N4R (Liquid V2 and dried) genomic regions. Analytical sensitivity and specificity were assessed using 60 clinical samples from confirmed MPXV-positive patients. Sensitivity on clinical samples was 81.7% for Liquid V1 and 88.3% for Liquid V2. The dried LAMPOX assay demonstrated a sensitivity of 88.3% and a specificity of 100% in a panel of 112 negative controls, with most positive samples detected in under 7 min. Additionally, a simplified sample lysis protocol was developed to facilitate point-of-care use. While this method showed slightly reduced sensitivity compared to standard DNA extraction, it proved effective for samples with higher viral loads. The dried format offers key advantages, including ambient-temperature stability and minimal equipment needs, making it suitable for point-of-care testing. These findings support LAMPOX as a promising tool for rapid MPXV detection during outbreaks, especially in resource-limited settings where traditional PCR is impractical. Full article

Traditional path planning algorithms often fail to simultaneously ensure operational efficiency, energy constraint compliance, and environmental adaptability in agricultural scenarios, thereby hindering the advancement of precision agriculture. To address these challenges, this study proposes a deep reinforcement learning algorithm, MoE-D3QN, which integrates a Mixture-of-Experts mechanism with a Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory model. This design enhances the efficiency and robustness of UAV path planning in agricultural environments. Building upon this algorithm, a hierarchical coverage path planning framework is developed. Multi-level task maps are constructed using crop information extracted from Sentinel-2 remote sensing imagery. Additionally, a dynamic energy consumption model and a progressive composite reward function are incorporated to further optimize UAV path planning in complex farmland conditions. Simulation experiments reveal that in the two-level scenario, the MoE-D3QN algorithm achieves a coverage efficiency of 0.8378, representing an improvement of 37.84–63.38% over traditional algorithms and 19.19–63.38% over conventional reinforcement learning methods. The redundancy rate is reduced to 3.23%, which is 38.71–41.94% lower than traditional methods and 4.46–42.77% lower than reinforcement learning counterparts. In the three-level scenario, MoE-D3QN achieves a coverage efficiency of 0.8261, exceeding traditional algorithms by 52.13–71.45% and reinforcement learning approaches by 10.15–50.2%. The redundancy rate is further reduced to 5.26%, which is significantly lower than the 57.89–92.11% observed with traditional methods and the 15.57–18.98% reported for reinforcement learning algorithms. These findings demonstrate that the MoE-D3QN algorithm exhibits high-quality planning performance in complex farmland environments, indicating its strong potential for widespread application in precision agriculture. Bassia scoparia (Syn. Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrad.) is a medicinal plant whose fruit, Kochiae Fructus, has been extensively studied for its dermatological applications. This study focused on extracts from the whole plant B. scoparia (WPBS), excluding fruits, to address the research gap regarding the medicinal properties of non-fruit parts. The diverse skin benefits of WPBS, including its anti-photoaging, moisturizing, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic effects, were investigated. The WPBS extract enhanced the viability of keratinocytes (HaCaT) without inducing cytotoxic effects. WPBS significantly reduced matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) levels and increased collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1) levels (p < 0.01) in fibroblasts exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation, indicating strong anti-photoaging effects. WPBS upregulated skin hydration markers such as aquaporin-3 (AQP3) and hyaluronan synthase-3 (HAS3) and effectively accelerated fibroblast wound closure compared to the positive control. Furthermore, WPBS substantially downregulated the expression of inflammatory (COX-2 and IL-1β) and angiogenic markers (VEGF). Transcriptome analysis (RNA-seq) confirmed that WPBS suppressed inflammation-related and UV-induced gene expression pathways. Overall, these findings expand the therapeutic scope of B. scoparia beyond its traditional fruit use and suggest that WPBS is a promising botanical ingredient for various skin applications. Adverse drug events (ADEs) significantly impact patient safety and health outcomes. Manual ADE detection from clinical narratives is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and costly. Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs), including transformer-based architectures such as Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) and Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT) series, offer promising methods for automating ADE extraction from clinical data. These models have been applied to various aspects of pharmacovigilance and clinical decision support, demonstrating potential in extracting ADE-related information from real-world clinical data. Additionally, chatbot-assisted systems have been explored as tools in clinical management, aiding in medication adherence, patient engagement, and symptom monitoring. This narrative review synthesizes the current state of LLMs in ADE detection from a clinical perspective, organizing studies into categories such as human-facing decision support tools, immune-related ADE detection, cancer-related and non-cancer-related ADE surveillance, and personalized decision support systems. In total, 39 articles were included in this review. Across domains, LLM-driven methods have demonstrated promising performances, often outperforming traditional approaches. However, critical limitations persist, such as domain-specific variability in model performance, interpretability challenges, data quality and privacy concerns, and infrastructure requirements. By addressing these challenges, LLM-based ADE detection could enhance pharmacovigilance practices, improve patient safety outcomes, and optimize clinical workflows. Full article

In this work, we introduce a novel method to extract correlations in diagonal quantum states in multi-particle quantum systems, addressing a significant limitation of traditional approaches that require prior knowledge of the density matrices of quantum states. Instead of relying on classical information processing, our method is based on weak couplings and ancillary systems, eliminating the need for classical communication, optimization, and complex calculations. The concept of mutually unbiased bases is intrinsically linked to symmetry, as it entails the uniform distribution of quantum states across distinct bases. Within the framework of our theoretical model, mutually unbiased bases are employed to facilitate weak measurements and to function as the post-selected states. To quantify the correlations in the initial state, we employ the trace distance between the initial state and the product of its marginal states, and illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our approach. We generalize the approach to accommodate high-dimensional multi-particle systems for potential applications in quantum information processing and quantum networks. Full article

Inventory counting of logistics boxes in complex scenarios has always been a core task in intelligent logistics systems. To solve the problems of a high leakage rate and low computational efficiency caused by stacking, occlusion, and rotation in box detection against complex backgrounds in logistics environments, this paper proposes a lightweight, rotated object detection model: REW-YOLO (RepViT-Block YOLO with Efficient Local Attention and Wise-IoU). By integrating structural reparameterization techniques, the C2f-RVB module was designed to reduce computational redundancy in traditional convolutions. Additionally, the ELA-HSFPN multi-scale feature fusion network was constructed to enhance edge feature extraction for occluded boxes and improve detection accuracy in densely packed scenarios. A rotation angle regression branch and a dynamic Wise-IoU loss function were introduced to further refine localization and balance sample quality. Experimental results on the self-constructed BOX-data dataset demonstrate that the REW-YOLO achieves 90.2% mAP50 and 130.8 FPS, with a parameter count of only 2.18 M, surpassing YOLOv8n by 2.9% in accuracy while reducing computational cost by 28%. These improvements provide an efficient solution for automated box detection in logistics applications. Full article
