Background/Objectives: Chronic diseases pose a major challenge for healthcare systems, requiring integrated, patient-centered approaches that combine clinical management, prevention, and self-care. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) and lifestyle in general offers complementary frameworks to address these needs. However, the potential integration of LM within community nursing—particularly through the role of Family and Community Nurse (FCN)—has not been comprehensively synthesized. This narrative review aimed to synthesize international evidence on the role of community nursing—particularly FCN—in integrating chronic care management and LM view. Methods: For quality assessment, a narrative review was conducted in accordance with the SANRA criteria to enable the integration of heterogeneous evidence and a comprehensive synthesis of this complex topic. Literature searches were performed in the PubMed–Medline database, and the final screening of references from included studies was used to identify relevant manuscripts. Primary studies published in English over the past ten years were screened and analyzed using the PICOS framework. Sixteen eligible studies were included in the final synthesis. Results: The included studies indicated that nurse-led community interventions in LM view were associated with improvements in self-management, treatment adherence, and selected clinical outcomes, such as blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin, and physical activity levels. Empowerment-based approaches and the use of digital or telehealth tools supported patient engagement and health literacy. At the organizational level, multidisciplinary collaboration, shared protocols, and professional leadership emerged as key factors in sustaining continuity and quality of care, while organizational fragmentation and limited training in behavioral counseling were commonly reported barriers. Conclusions: Community nursing, particularly through FCNs, plays a relevant role in integrating chronic care management and LM approaches, contributing to improved self-management, treatment adherence, and selected clinical outcomes. The evidence highlights the importance of empowerment-based interventions, digital support tools, and multidisciplinary collaboration in enhancing care continuity and patient engagement. Addressing organizational barriers and strengthening behavioral counseling training remain essential to support effective implementation in community settings. Full article

Hair serves essential functions, including mechanical sensing, head protection, and body temperature regulation, while also playing a significant role in human aesthetics. However, factors such as hormonal imbalances, autoimmune disorders, infections, and psychological stress contribute to the widespread issue of hair loss, particularly among the elderly, adversely affecting self-confidence and self-esteem. Although treatments such as minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride have received regulatory approval, their associated side effects, such as sexual dysfunction, neuropsychiatric issues, and cardiovascular symptoms, can impede patient recovery. While follicular unit transplantation and stem cell therapy show promising outcomes, they are not suitable for all types of hair disorders. Short peptides that mimic intracellular signals and exhibit diverse biological effects have emerged as a promising approach for stimulating hair regrowth. By combining different formulations and nanosystems, the limitations of short peptides can be effectively addressed. This review systematically summarizes recent advances in peptide-based treatments for hair loss, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Full article

Polymer films and coatings play an increasingly critical role in extending material functionality across industrial, biomedical, and environmental applications. Recent advances in surface engineering have enabled precise control of interfacial properties, leading to enhanced durability, cleanliness, and protection. This review summarizes state-of-the-art strategies for modifying polymer surfaces, with an emphasis on plasma-based surface modification and plasma-induced polymerization as versatile, solvent-free methods for tailoring wettability, chemical functionality, and adhesion. Furthermore, it examines emerging classes of self-cleaning and self-sterilizing coatings that leverage photocatalytic, hydrophobic, or antimicrobial mechanisms to mitigate contamination, biofouling, and pathogen transmission. Additionally, developments in high-performance barrier films designed to protect food products and electronic devices through improved resistance to gases, moisture, and chemical agents are highlighted. By integrating insights from materials chemistry, surface physics, and nanostructured coating design, this review provides a comprehensive overview of current achievements and future directions in functional polymer films and coatings aimed at anti-pollution, antibacterial, and anti-corrosion performance. Diamond bead wire saw cutting technology for coal seams is an effective approach for relieving pressure and enhancing permeability by forming internal slits within a coal seam. However, the current lack of solid theoretical guidance for cutting force models in loaded coal bodies makes it difficult to accurately predict cutting forces under underground conditions. This study established a three-dimensional cutting force model for wire saw cutting of loaded coal bodies. At the same time, comparative experiments were conducted using a self-developed experimental apparatus for cutting loaded coal with a wire saw. The research findings indicate that, during wire saw cutting of loaded coal bodies, increasing the cutting depth of the cutting force of a single abrasive grain by changing the load on both sides of the coal body changes the removal patterns of abrasive particles at different orientations on a single bead. This leads to a shift from plastic deformation to brittle deformation while widening the cutting contact area on both sides of the wire saw. The interaction of these aspects changes the cutting force exerted by the wire saw on loaded coal bodies. The experimental results revealed that under high-load conditions, the cutting force on the coal further increased during wire saw cutting. This suggests that the expansion of the cutting range plays a more significant role in increasing the cutting force than does the decrease resulting from changes in removal mode. These findings offer valuable theoretical insights for the process design of wire saw coal cutting technology. Full article

Autoencoder-based models have become a fundamental component of unsupervised and self-supervised learning in natural language processing (NLP), enabling models to learn compact latent representations through input reconstruction. From early denoising autoencoders to probabilistic variational autoencoders (VAEs) and transformer-based masked autoencoding, reconstruction-driven objectives have played a significant role in shaping modern approaches to text representation and generation. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of autoencoder architectures and training objectives in NLP, and synthesizes applications of VAEs across language modeling, controllable text generation, machine translation, sentiment modeling, and multilingual representation learning. Although previous surveys have examined deep generative models or representation learning in NLP, there remains a lack of a unified review that systematically connects classical autoencoder variants, variational formulations, and modern transformer-based masked autoencoders within a single conceptual framework. To address this gap, this work consolidates architectural developments, training objectives, and major application domains under a reconstruction-based learning perspective, offering a structured comparison of modeling choices, datasets, and evaluation practices. Our analysis highlights the strengths and limitations of existing approaches, discusses the ongoing influence of autoencoder-style learning in NLP, and outlines future research directions focused on improving training stability, designing more structured latent spaces, and enhancing multilingual representation learning. This study investigates how participants conceptualise sustainability and sustainability citizenship, as well as how these conceptualisations relate to perceived agency. Drawing on two open-ended prompts, it analyses participants’ visions of a sustainable future and the roles they would like to play within it. The dataset was based on 1714 coded response segments from 164 participants. Methodologically, the study combines qualitative content analysis, independent human-AI double coding, manual validation, inter-rater reliability assessment, and residual-based co-occurrence analysis within a qualitatively grounded mixed-methods design. The results show that sustainability is predominantly framed in civic, symbolic, and ecological terms, whereas strategic competence and professionally articulated agency remain less visible. Sustainability meanings and role conceptions also vary systematically across disciplinary contexts. In addition, the analyses reveal patterned gaps between participants’ future visions and their self-attributed roles in sustainability transformations. The study contributes empirical insights into sustainability meaning-making and perceived agency and shows how LLM-assisted coding can be embedded in a transparent mixed-methods workflow. For sustainability education, the findings underline the importance of strengthening strategic and systemic dimensions of competence and linking civic engagement more closely to professional pathways of action. The decarbonization of the residential sector is a critical component of the European Green Deal, particularly in transition economies like Poland. This study proposes a comprehensive techno-economic optimization of a deeply retrofitted single-family house aiming for net-zero energy building (NZEB) status. The research specifically focuses on the Polish coastal climate zone, characterized by distinct humidity, wind, and temperature profiles compared to inland regions, which significantly influence the efficiency of air-to-water heat pumps (ASHP). Based on a real-world energy audit, the study simulates the synergy between a deep thermal envelope upgrade and a hybrid system comprising an ASHP, photovoltaics (PV), and battery energy storage (BES). This paper presents a detailed economic analysis of such hybrid systems under the new Polish ‘net-billing’ prosumer mechanism. The study evaluates the impact of electricity tariff structures (flat-rate G11 vs. time-of-use G12w) on the investment’s profitability. By calculating key performance indicators—including the levelized cost of energy (LCOE), net present value (NPV), and self-sufficiency ratio (SSR)—the research assesses various system configurations. The initial evaluation indicates that while deep retrofitting significantly reduces heating demand, integrating battery storage plays a critical role in enhancing economic returns under the net-billing framework. The analysis demonstrates that the optimized hybrid system (9.0 kWp PV + 10 kWh BESS) achieves an average annual self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) of 49.8% and reduces the non-renewable primary energy (EP) indicator to 0.0 kWh/(m2·year). Economically, the investment yields a positive NPV of €3194, an IRR of 5.25%, and a LCOE of €0.184/kWh, which is 34% lower than projected grid prices. Furthermore, switching to a time-of-use tariff (G12w) generates an additional 11% (€139) in annual savings. These quantitative findings provide actionable guidelines for policymakers and investors, confirming the financial viability and environmental benefit (annual reduction of 6.12 MgCO2) of NZEB standards in coastal areas. This paper is the first attempt to interpret the visual ‘construemes’ by the constructivist poet Alexei N. Chicherin, published in the anthology Mena vsekh which appeared in Moscow in1924. ‘Construemes’ can be considered the most enigmatic artifacts of the Russian avant-garde. Although ‘construemes’ can be easily confused with meaningless visual zaum (‘the transrational’), Chicherin’s actions and the very nature of his personality prevent one from interpreting ‘construemes’ as actionist endeavors to scandalize or a ‘play on nonsense’. Analysis of the poet’s treatise Kan-Fun published in Moscow in 1926 required finding the key to deciphering the ‘construemes’, reveals the positivist nature of Chicherin’s visual–phonological exercises. In the treatise, the poet argues for the primacy of the eye and vision. He illustrates synthetic ‘signs’ or ‘pictograms’ with the quotidian example of propaganda posters, capable of influencing millions more effectively than words alone. The study emphasizes the enigmatic nature of the titles of Chicherin’s books, the Nietzschean subtexts of his self-presentation, encrypted allusions to the esoteric and magical tradition of the Tarot, and religious symbolism. Sixteen illustrations help the understanding of Chicherin’s logic behind the creation of his four ‘construemes’, including the most mysterious composition called ‘Raman’ (‘the shortest Kan-Fun Novel in the world’). The structure of this text synthesizes the verbal, visual–graphic, acoustic (phonological symbols) and musical (notes) levels. The article also examines Chicherin’s proven techniques: the appropriation of the sacred dimension and self-presentation as an actor possessing genuine knowledge and capable of competing alone with the entire literary environment. Acute type A aortic dissection is a life-threatening condition requiring emergency surgery and complex postoperative management. Although survival rates have improved, many patients experience long-term functional impairments, reduced quality of life, and an elevated risk of complications. Despite strong evidence supporting cardiac rehabilitation in other cardiovascular populations, structured programs remain underutilized in patients with surgically resolved acute type A aortic dissection. Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation appears feasible and can be delivered safely in carefully selected patients when appropriately adapted to individual needs and conducted under close supervision. Postoperative patients are often physically deconditioned, prone to hospital-acquired disability, and may misjudge exercise intensity. Therefore, individualized exercise prescription, guided by exercise testing when available, is important to support safe training thresholds. Early and gradual introduction of physical activity may help prevent complications associated with immobility, support blood pressure control, and contribute to improvements in functional capacity. However, training volume should be purposefully lower than in conventional program settings to reduce hemodynamic stress. Education on safe exercise parameters and self-monitoring plays a central role in enabling long-term adherence and promoting patient autonomy. Cardiac rehabilitation programs should incorporate dietary, nutritional, and psychological support. Although evidence specific to this patient population remains limited, available data suggest the feasibility and potential benefits of cardiac rehabilitation when delivered with appropriate precautions. Our review underscores the need for a tailored, multidisciplinary CR approach aimed at enhancing physical recovery, supporting cardiovascular stability, and improving overall quality of life in patients following surgery. Further research is required to define optimal program protocols. Full article

Recent advances in extended reality (XR) have enabled immersive virtual flight experiences for applications such as entertainment and teleoperation support. However, XR-based flight systems that rely primarily on audiovisual cues often fail to evoke a compelling sense of flight and embodied sensation. This study investigates how adaptive wind feedback enhances subjective flight perception in a virtual flight simulation system, Drone Rider. We implemented direction- and velocity-adaptive wind feedback that synchronizes airflow intensity and direction with the user’s motion in the virtual environment, focusing on perceptual effects in a controlled manner to identify key design factors, rather than reproducing aerodynamically accurate airflow. To explore flexible system configurations, two fan installation positions were compared: front-mounted and bottom-mounted. A questionnaire-based user study revealed that adaptive wind feedback significantly enhanced the sense of flight, self-location, and agency compared with the constant-wind and no-wind conditions. However, no significant differences were observed between velocity-adaptive wind and direction- and velocity-adaptive wind conditions. Furthermore, wind delivered from beneath the user yielded flight sensations comparable to those generated by front-mounted airflow. These findings suggest that temporal coupling between airflow intensity and visual motion plays a central role in XR flight perception and provide practical design insights for immersive and flexible XR-based flight simulation systems. This study employs a reflexive autoethnography, guided by flow and place attachment theory, to examine how gaming experiences influence attachments to virtual environments and inspire real-world travel intentions. Data comprise reflexive journal notes written over a 10-month period after playing multiple video games and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis following a hybrid deductive–inductive approach. The analysis identified eight themes across three dimensions: temporal immersion, escapism, narrative immersion, and self-expression under flow; emotional, cognitive, and behavioural attachment under place attachment; and place-induced travel intention as the behavioural outcome. The findings establish flow as a critical antecedent to the development of place attachment within virtual environments. Consistent with emerging scholarship, the study confirms that attachment formation does not require physically tangible places; rather, it can emerge through digitally mediated presence and interaction, indicating that virtual environments are capable of eliciting place attachment. More significantly, it demonstrates that these virtual attachments can fluidly extend toward real places depicted in games, revealing a cross-environmental continuity in attachment processes. The integrated framework thus contributes a novel theoretical proposal linking flow, virtual and real place attachment, and tourism behaviour, an area that remains conceptually fragmented and empirically underdeveloped. Aging is a multifactorial process characterized by progressive physiological changes, including cellular senescence, cellular loss, and organ decline, which collectively accelerate the development of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in older adults. MetS, in turn, not only significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) but also contributes to decreased functional and cognitive capacity, partly due to diminished ability to adapt to metabolic stress. While genetic predisposition has a substantial influence on the risk of developing MetS, other intrinsic factors, including chronic inflammation, insulin resistance (InsR), and altered neurohormonal activation, also play crucial roles. Targeted therapies, lifestyle interventions, and pharmacotherapy can decelerate the progression of CVD, improving the likelihood of survival with favorable neurological and functional outcomes in older individuals with MetS. However, adverse drug reactions and the lack of adequate interventions for cognitive decline have led to the emergence of self-medication with nonprescription products. The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-channelopathy, antiaging, and neuroprotective properties of flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, and polyphenols found in key traditional medicines have shown promising potential in the treatment of MetS-induced cognitive decline. This narrative review summarizes current evidence on bioactive compounds and herbal medicines that may offer cognitive benefits in elderly patients with MetS. Full article

As zero-energy buildings (ZEBs) become increasingly mandatory, photovoltaic (PV) systems play a key role in increasing on-site energy generation. For staged ZEB certification based on the energy self-sufficiency ratio (ESSR), it is essential to determine the required power generation and to design PV systems with appropriate installation area and location. This study proposes a systematic design decision-support process for PV system planning that links required energy generation to panel installation strategies. The process enables the determination of a feasible installation area and location of PV panels and was implemented as a design-support program. The proposed process was applied to an apartment building under construction with a ZEB certification grade 5. Compared to the existing design, the optimal design reduced the required PV system capacity by 1.7% while increasing the predicted power generation by approximately 2.8%. The reported improvement in energy generation represents a relative comparison between design alternatives evaluated under identical modeling assumptions and therefore remains valid for comparative design decision-making. Field measurements conducted at a residential building with installed PV systems showed that the predicted power generation is consistent with measured trends, supporting comparative design evaluation and feasibility screening in early-stage PV planning. The developed design process provides a practical framework for early-stage PV system planning, supporting informed design decisions to meet target energy self-sufficiency requirements in ZEBs. Background: Living with type 2 diabetes can be demanding from multiple perspectives. Many individuals with type 2 diabetes experience limited self-care ability and poor adherence to self-care recommendations. Objective: To describe factors that influence self-care adherence among adults with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A systematic review based on 19 studies using quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method designs. The study design is a systematic literature review in accordance with the guidelines of the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) and PRISMA guidelines. The articles were retrieved from the research databases CINAHL, PubMed, and PsycInfo. Quality appraisal was conducted using the MMAT, and the studies were analyzed through meta-aggregation and subsequently compiled into a unified set of findings. Results: The findings showed that numerous factors influence adherence to self-care. These were presented in categories: sociodemographic factors; disease- and treatment-related factors; healthcare-related factors; and psychological factors. Psychological factors played a decisive role in adherence, particularly regarding motivation. Conclusions: Living with Type 2 diabetes demands considerable engagement and supporting them as a district nurse is a multidimensional task consisting of several components. Self-care adherence in type 2 diabetes cannot be understood as the result of isolated factors but rather as a complex interplay of psychological, social, economic circumstances. Understanding effective patient education enhances knowledge and understanding of the importance of adhering to treatment is the key to improving compliance in patients with type 2 diabetes. Immersive virtual environments are increasingly investigated as tools capable of modulating conscious experience, yet the specific contribution of graded immersion to altered states of consciousness (ASC), time perception, and cognition remains unclear. The present study examined how different levels of immersion during videogame play influence subjective experience and post-experience cognitive performance. Seventy-two participants played an identical 35 min segment of the videogame Half-Life: Alyx under one of three conditions: desktop PC (low immersion), head-mounted virtual reality (VR; medium immersion), or VR combined with full-body locomotion via an omnidirectional treadmill (high immersion). Following gameplay, participants completed validated measures of presence (IPQ), immersion (IEQ), ASC (5D-ASC), retrospective time estimation, and cognitive flexibility (Stroop task and Alternative Uses Test). Presence was selectively enhanced in VR relative to desktop play, whereas immersion was highest in the VR plus treadmill condition. Specific ASC dimensions related to embodiment and self-experience were selectively elevated in immersive conditions, with the most robust effects observed for disembodiment and positive depersonalization. Retrospective time-estimation accuracy was reduced in the highest immersion condition, indicating increased temporal distortion. Immersive gameplay did not produce widespread changes in executive function. Overall, the findings indicate that immersive virtual reality gameplay selectively alters embodiment-related aspects of conscious experience and retrospective time perception, without broadly changing executive function.
