Landslide susceptibility modelling represents an efficient approach to enhance disaster management and mitigation strategies. The focus of this paper lies in the development of a landslide susceptibility evaluation in northwestern Tunisia using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approaches. The used database covers 286 landslides, including ten landslide factor maps: rainfall, slope, aspect, topographic roughness index, lithology, land use and land cover, distance from streams, drainage density, lineament density, and distance from roads. The AHP and ANN approaches were applied to classify the factors by analyzing the correlation relationship between landslide distribution and the significance of associated factors. The Landslide Susceptibility Index result reveals five susceptible zones organized from very low to very high risk, where the zones with the highest risks are associated with the combination of extreme amounts of rainfall and steep slope. The performance of the models was confirmed utilizing the area under the Relative Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves. The computed ROC curve (AUC) values (0.720 for ANN and 0.651 for AHP) convey the advantage of the ANN method compared to the AHP method. The overlay of the landslide inventory data locations of historical landslides and susceptibility maps shows the concordance of the results, which is in favor of the established model reliability. The use of chemical pesticides in agriculture has led to the development of resistant pest populations, posing a challenge to long-term pest management. This review aims to evaluate the scientific literature on the individual and combined use of baculoviruses with conventional chemical and biological insecticides to combat Plutella xylostella, Spodoptera exigua, and Spodoptera frugiperda in broccoli, tomato, and maize crops. Notable findings include that both individual Plutella xylostella nucleopolyhedrovirus (PxNPV) and the combination of Plutella xylostella granulovirus (PxGV) and azadirachtin at a low dose effectively control Plutella xylostella; both combinations of Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) with emamectin benzoate and chlorfenapyr reduced resistance in Spodoptera exigua and increased the efficacy of the insecticides; and the combination of Spodoptera frugiperda nucleopolyhedrovirus (SfMNPV) and spinetoram is effective against Spodoptera frugiperda. Integrating baculoviruses into pest management strategies offers a promising approach to mitigate the adverse effects of chemical pesticides, such as resistance development, health risks, and environmental damage. However, there remains a broad spectrum of research opportunities regarding the use of baculoviruses in agriculture. Full article

Effect of a Gluten-Free Diet on the Intestinal Microbiota of Women with Celiac Disease

Background/Objectives: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by small intestinal enteropathy triggered by gluten ingestion, often associated with gut dysbiosis. The most effective treatment is strict adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD), which alleviates symptoms. This study uniquely integrates taxonomic, functional, and resistance profiling to evaluate the gut microbiota of women with CD on a GFD. Methods: To evaluate the long-term impact of a GFD, this study analyzed the gut microbiota of 10 women with CD on a GFD for over a year compared to 10 healthy controls with unrestricted diets. Taxonomic diversity (16S rRNA gene sequencing and the analysis of α and β-diversity), metabolic functionality (Biolog EcoPlates®), and antibiotic resistance profiles (Cenoantibiogram) were assessed. Results: Metagenomic analysis revealed no significant differences in taxonomic diversity but highlighted variations in the abundance of specific bacterial genera. Women with CD showed increased proportions of Bacteroides, Streptococcus, and Clostridium, associated with inflammation, but also elevated levels of beneficial genera such as Roseburia, Oxalobacter, and Paraprevotella. Despite no significant differences in metabolic diversity, higher minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) in women in the healthy control group suggest that dietary substrates in unrestricted diets may promote the proliferation of fast-growing bacteria capable of rapidly developing and disseminating antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Conclusions: These findings indicate that prolonged adherence to a GFD in CD supports remission of gut dysbiosis, enhances microbiota functionality, and may reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance, emphasizing the importance of dietary management in CD. With the continuous increase in urban population, the subway is the main way to alleviate traffic congestion. However, the construction environment of subway stations is complex, and the safety risks are extremely high. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to scientifically and systematically evaluate the safety vulnerability of subway station construction. This paper takes the Chengdu subway project as an example, and establishes a metro station construction safety vulnerability evaluation index system based on the driving forces–pressures–state–impacts–responses (DPSIR) theory with 5 first-level indexes and 23 second-level indexes, and adopts the fuzzy hierarchical analysis method (FAHP) to calculate the subjective weights, and the improved Harris Hawks optimization–projection pursuit method (HHO-PPM) to determine the objective weights, combined with game theory to calculate the comprehensive weights of the indicators, and finally uses the improved cloud model of Bayesian feedback to determine the vulnerability level of subway station construction safety. The study found that the combined empowerment–improvement cloud model assessment method is reliable, and the case study verifies that the vulnerability level of the project is “very low risk”, and the investigations of safety hazards and the pressure of surrounding traffic are the key influencing factors, allowing for the proposal of more scientific and effective management strategies for the construction of subway stations. Background: Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs), including intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) and mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs), pose a diagnostic challenge due to their variable malignant potential. Current guidelines, such as Fukuoka and American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), have moderate predictive accuracy and may lead to overtreatment or missed malignancies. Artificial intelligence (AI), incorporating machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), offers the potential to improve risk stratification, diagnosis, and management of PCLs by integrating clinical, radiological, and molecular data. This is the first systematic review to evaluate the application, performance, and clinical utility of AI models in the diagnosis, classification, prognosis, and management of pancreatic cysts. Methods: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and registered on PROSPERO (CRD420251008593). Databases searched included PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Cochrane Library up to March 2025. The inclusion criteria encompassed original studies employing AI, ML, or DL in human subjects with pancreatic cysts, evaluating diagnostic, classification, or prognostic outcomes. Data were extracted on the study design, imaging modality, model type, sample size, performance metrics (accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC)), and validation methods. Study quality and bias were assessed using the PROBAST and adherence to TRIPOD reporting guidelines. Results: From 847 records, 31 studies met the inclusion criteria. Most were retrospective observational (n = 27, 87%) and focused on preoperative diagnostic applications (n = 30, 97%), with only one addressing prognosis. Imaging modalities included Computed Tomography (CT) (48%), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) (26%), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) (9.7%). Neural networks, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), were the most common AI models (n = 16), followed by logistic regression (n = 4) and support vector machines (n = 3). The median reported AUC across studies was 0.912, with 55% of models achieving AUC ≥ 0.80. The models outperformed clinicians or existing guidelines in 11 studies. IPMN stratification and subtype classification were common focuses, with CNN-based EUS models achieving accuracies of up to 99.6%. Only 10 studies (32%) performed external validation. The risk of bias was high in 93.5% of studies, and TRIPOD adherence averaged 48%. Conclusions: AI demonstrates strong potential in improving the diagnosis and risk stratification of pancreatic cysts, with several models outperforming current clinical guidelines and human readers. However, widespread clinical adoption is hindered by high risk of bias, lack of external validation, and limited interpretability of complex models. Future work should prioritise multicentre prospective studies, standardised model reporting, and development of interpretable, externally validated tools to support clinical integration. Full article

Background/Objectives: Preoperative strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) requiring major hepatectomy remain controversial, particularly in “borderline resectable” cases. This study aimed to evaluate the oncological benefit and perioperative safety of Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization (TARE) in patients undergoing right or extended right hepatectomy for HCC. Material and Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent right or extended right hepatectomy for HCC at a single tertiary center between January 2013 and December 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were grouped based on whether they received preoperative TARE or underwent upfront resection. Outcomes analyzed included perioperative morbidity and long-term oncological endpoints. Results: A total of 39 patients were included, of whom 18 received preoperative TARE and 21 underwent upfront surgery. Patients in the TARE group showed significantly greater tumor necrosis at pathology (70% vs. 10%, p = 0.002) and more frequent extended resections. Five-year cancer-specific survival (80.4% vs. 33.5%, p = 0.011), recurrence-free survival (33.8% vs. 14.0%, p = 0.047), and curative-intent disease-free survival (69.3% vs. 18.9%, p = 0.0037) were significantly higher in the TARE group. Overall survival showed a favorable trend. Intraoperative outcomes, postoperative morbidity, and 90-day mortality were comparable between groups. Conclusions: Preoperative TARE is a safe and effective neoadjuvant strategy in selected patients with HCC undergoing major hepatectomy. It may enhance long-term oncological outcomes without increasing surgical risk, supporting its potential role in the management of borderline resectable HCC. Full article

Biofilms are structured microbial communities that pose significant challenges to food safety and quality within the food-processing industry. Their formation on equipment and surfaces enables persistent contamination, microbial resistance, and recurring outbreaks of foodborne illness. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge on biofilm formation mechanisms, genetic regulation, and the unique behavior of multi-species biofilms. The review evaluates modern detection and monitoring technologies, including PCR, biosensors, and advanced microscopy, and compares their effectiveness in industrial contexts. Real-world outbreak data and a global economic impact analysis underscore the urgency for more effective regulatory frameworks and sanitation innovations. The findings highlight the critical need for integrated, proactive biofilm management approaches to safeguard food safety, reduce public health risks, and minimize economic losses across global food sectors. Cardiovascular Risk in Rheumatic Patients Treated with JAK Inhibitors: The Role of Traditional and Emerging Biomarkers in a Pilot Study

Background: Despite therapeutic advances, morbidity and mortality remain high in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA), primarily due to increased cardiovascular risk. Objectives: Our study aimed to evaluate the cardiovascular risk profile and biomarker dynamics in patients with RA and PsA treated with Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis). To our knowledge, this is the first study assessing Lp(a) levels in this context. Methods: This prospective, observational study assessed 48 adult patients. The follow-up period was 12 months. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors and biological markers, including lipid profile, lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], and uric acid (UA), were assessed at baseline and follow-up. Correlations between JAKi therapy, lipid profile changes, and cardiovascular risk factors were investigated. Cox regression analysis was used to identify predictors of non-major cardiovascular events. Results: A strong positive correlation was observed between baseline and 12-month Lp(a) levels (r = 0.926), despite minor statistical shifts. No major cardiovascular events occurred during follow-up; however, 47.9% of patients experienced non-major cardiovascular events (e.g., uncontrolled arterial hypertension, exertional angina, and new-onset arrhythmias). Active smoking [hazard ratio (HR) 9.853, p = 0.005], obesity (HR 3.7460, p = 0.050), and arterial hypertension (HR 1.219, p = 0.021) were independent predictors of these events. UA (HR 1.515, p = 0.040) and total cholesterol (TC) (HR 1.019, p = 0.034) were significant biochemical predictors as well. Elevated baseline Lp(a) combined with these factors was associated with an increased event rate, particularly after age 60. Conclusions: Traditional cardiovascular risk factors remain highly prevalent and predictive, underscoring the need for comprehensive cardiovascular risk management. Lp(a) remained stable and may serve as a complementary biomarker for risk stratification in JAKi-treated patients. Full article

Prolonged inundations are altering coastal forest ecosystems of the southeastern US, causing extensive tree die-offs and the development of ghost forests. This hydrological stressor also alters carbon fluxes, threatening the stability of coastal carbon sinks. This study was conducted to investigate the interactions between hydrological drivers and ecosystem responses by analyzing daily eddy covariance flux data from a wetland forest in North Carolina, USA, spanning 2009–2019. We analyzed temporal patterns of net ecosystem exchange (NEE), gross primary productivity (GPP), and ecosystem respiration (RE) under both flooded and non-flooded conditions and evaluated their relationships with observed tree mortality. Generalized Additive Modeling (GAM) revealed that groundwater table depth (GWT), leaf area index (LAI), NEE, and net radiation (Rn) were key predictors of mortality transitions (R2 = 0.98). Elevated GWT induces root anoxia; declining LAI reduces productivity; elevated NEE signals physiological breakdown; and higher Rn may amplify evapotranspiration stress. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis revealed critical early warning thresholds for tree mortality: GWT = 2.23 cm, LAI = 2.99, NEE = 1.27 g C m−2 d−1, and Rn = 167.54 W m−2. These values offer a basis for forecasting forest mortality risk and guiding early warning systems. Our findings highlight the dominant role of hydrological variability in ecosystem degradation and offer a threshold-based framework for early detection of mortality risks. This approach provides insights into managing coastal forest resilience amid accelerating sea level rise. Full article

Endometriosis is a benign and often underdiagnosed condition that affects women of reproductive age, typically between 18 and 45 years. It can cause infertility and pain, including radicular pain and low back pain (LBP). The aim of this case report is to emphasize the importance of making a differential diagnosis when facing LBP and radicular symptoms. We report the case of a 17-year-old female patient, R.A., presented with a significant LBP (NPRS 8/10) radiating from her lumbar spine to her right buttock and occasionally to both legs, accompanied by weakness. She revealed exacerbation of pain during menstruation, despite being under hormonal contraceptive treatment. After three physiotherapy sessions that included education, manual therapy and exercise, the patient’s pain persisted so her physiotherapist recommended an evaluation in the emergency department, where standard radiography did not reveal any significant findings. Physiotherapy continued until the fifth session, when the patient agreed to undergo evaluation at a specialized endometriosis centre. Further investigations revealed endometriotic tissue on the uterosacral ligament, leading to hormonal therapy adjustment, with which pain gradually decreased to a manageable level (NPRS 2/10). This case report highlights the importance of an early differential diagnosis in patients with LBP, as endometriosis can present not only in older women but also in younger patients, including those already on oral contraceptives. Therefore, to mitigate the risk of pattern recognition bias, clinicians must maintain a high index of suspicion for endometriosis, even in atypical or unlikely clinical presentations. Full article

Background/Objectives: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is widely used to manage prostate cancer (PC), but the emergence of treatment resistance remains a major clinical challenge. Although the GST family has been implicated in drug resistance, the specific role of GSTM5 remains poorly understood. This study investigates whether GSTM5, alone or in combination with clinical variables, can improve patient stratification based on the risk of early treatment resistance. Methods: In silico analyses were performed to examine GSTM5’s role in protein interactions, molecular pathways, and gene expression. The rs3768490 polymorphism was genotyped in 354 patients with PC, classified by ADT response. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression models were applied to evaluate associations between genotype, clinical variables, and ADT response. GSTM5 expression related to the rs3768490 genotype and ADT response was also analyzed in 129 prostate tissue samples. Results: The T/T genotype of rs3768490 was significantly associated with a lower likelihood of early ADT resistance in both individual (p = 0.0359, Odd Ratios (OR) = 0.18) and recessive models (p = 0.0491, OR = 0.21). High-risk classification according to D’Amico was strongly associated with early progression (p < 0.0004; OR > 5.4). Combining genotype and clinical risk improved predictive performance, highlighting their complementary value in stratifying patients by treatment response. Additionally, GSTM5 expression was slightly higher in T/T carriers, suggesting a potential protective role against ADT resistance. Conclusions: The T/T genotype of rs3768490 may protect against ADT resistance by modulating GSTM5 expression in PC. These preliminary findings highlight the potential of integrating genetic biomarkers into clinical models for personalized treatment strategies, although further studies are needed to validate these observations. Predicting Landslide Susceptibility Using Cost Function in Low-Relief Areas: A Case Study of the Urban Municipality of Attecoube (Abidjan, Ivory Coast)

Landslides are among the most hazardous natural phenomena affecting Greater Abidjan, causing significant economic and social damage. Strategic planning supported by geographic information systems (GIS) can help mitigate potential losses and enhance disaster resilience. This study evaluates landslide susceptibility using logistic regression and frequency ratio models. The analysis is based on a dataset comprising 54 mapped landslide scarps collected from June 2015 to July 2023, along with 16 thematic predictor variables, including altitude, slope, aspect, profile curvature, plan curvature, drainage area, distance to the drainage network, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and an urban-related layer. A high-resolution (5-m) digital elevation model (DEM), derived from multiple data sources, supports the spatial analysis. The landslide inventory was randomly divided into two subsets: 80% for model calibration and 20% for validation. After optimization and statistical testing, the selected thematic layers were integrated to produce a susceptibility map. The results indicate that 6.3% (0.7 km2) of the study area is classified as very highly susceptible. The proportion of the sample (61.2%) in this class had a frequency ratio estimated to be 20.2. Among the predictive indicators, altitude, slope, SE, S, NW, and NDVI were found to have a positive impact on landslide occurrence. Model performance was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), demonstrating strong predictive capability. These findings can support informed land-use planning and risk reduction strategies in urban areas. Furthermore, the prediction model should be communicated to and understood by local authorities to facilitate disaster management. The cost function was adopted as a novel approach to delineate hazardous zones. Considering the landslide inventory period, the increasing hazard due to climate change, and the intensification of human activities, a reasoned choice of sample size was made. This informed decision enabled the production of an updated prediction map. Optimal thresholds were then derived to classify areas into high- and low-susceptibility categories. The prediction map will be useful to planners in helping them make decisions and implement protective measures. Full article

Anti-Ku antibodies are rare autoantibodies associated with connective tissue diseases (CTDs), but their clinical significance remains poorly understood due to limited studies. Semi-quantitative immunodot assays yield positive, negative, or borderline results, with the clinical relevance of borderline findings remaining unclear. The purpose of this study is to characterize the clinical spectrum of anti-Ku-positive patients and evaluate the clinical significance of anti-Ku-borderline results in CTD management. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at Hôpital Erasme, including all patients with anti-Ku-positive or borderline results, over a 10-year period. Clinical and biological data were collected from medical records and analyzed for disease associations, organ involvement, and outcomes. Among 47 anti-Ku-positive patients, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) were the most common diagnoses. Interstitial lung disease (ILD) occurred in 23.4% and renal involvement in 12.8% of patients. Cytopenia was significantly associated with glomerulonephritis. Organ damage, particularly pulmonary and renal involvement, correlated with increased mortality. In the borderline group (n = 33), SLE and SS remained the predominant diagnoses. During follow-up, three patients died (all with isolated ILD without associated CTD), one required chronic dialysis, and one underwent lung transplantation. ILD was present in 7/22 (31.8%) borderline patients, and renal involvement in 7/32 (21.9%). This study demonstrates significant associations between anti-Ku antibodies and organ damage, with increased mortality risk. The high prevalence of pulmonary and renal involvement in anti-Ku-borderline patients suggests that these results carry substantial clinical significance and should prompt comprehensive CTD evaluation. These findings support treating borderline anti-Ku results with the same clinical vigilance as positive results, given their similar association with severe organ involvement and adverse outcomes. Civil aviation safety remains a critical concern globally, with continuous efforts aimed at reducing accidents and fatalities. This paper focuses on the comprehensive evaluation of civil aviation safety in the Slovak Republic over the past several years, with the main objective of identifying prevailing trends and key risk factors. A comprehensive analysis of 155 accidents and incidents was conducted based on selected operational parameters. Logistic regression was applied to identify potential causal factors influencing various levels of injury severity in aviation accidents. Moreover, the prediction model can also be used to predict the probability of specific injury severity for accidents with given parameter values. The results indicate a clear declining trend in the annual number of aviation safety events; however, the fatality rate has stagnated or slightly increased in recent years. Human error, particularly mistakes and intentional violations of procedures, was identified as the dominant causal factor across all sectors of civil aviation, including flight operations, airport management, maintenance, and air navigation services. Despite technological advancements and regulatory improvements, human-related failures persist as a major safety challenge. The findings highlight the critical need for targeted strategies to mitigate human error and enhance overall aviation safety in the Slovak Republic. Full article

Background: Percutaneous epidural neuroplasty (PEN) and related adhesiolysis procedures are widely used for managing chronic spinal pain. Although generally safe, complications—ranging from minor to life-threatening—have been reported. This review aimed to estimate the incidence and characteristics of complications following PEN and to evaluate the medical rationale for post-procedural inpatient monitoring. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for studies published from January 2000 to April 2025 reporting complications associated with PEN. We performed a random-effects meta-analysis on five eligible cohort studies to estimate the pooled complication rate and evaluated heterogeneity. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Results: Five cohort studies (n = 1740) were included in the meta-analysis, with a pooled complication rate of 9.0% (95% CI: 4.8–13.1%, I2 = 97.5%). A total of 133 complications were identified from cohort studies and case reports. Mechanical and neurological complications were most common. Serious complications, including hematoma, meningitis, and cardiopulmonary arrest, were concentrated within the first 6 h post-procedure. Conclusions: This meta-analysis highlights a quantifiable risk of complications associated with PEN. Our findings support structured inpatient monitoring during the immediate post-procedural period to enhance safety and outcomes. Full article
