This study examines how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the role of university teachers and transforming the foundations of academic work in the digital age. Building on the Dynamic Capabilities Theory (sensing–seizing–transforming), the article proposes a theoretical reframing of university teachers’ perceptions of AI. This approach allows us to bridge micro-level emotions with meso-level HR policies and macro-level sustainability goals (SDGs 4, 8, and 9). The empirical foundation includes a survey of 453 Ukrainian university teachers (2023–2025) and statistics, supplemented by a bibliometric analysis of 26,425 Scopus-indexed documents. The results indicate that teachers do not anticipate a large-scale replacement by AI within the next five years. However, their fear of losing control over AI technologies is stronger than the fear of job displacement. This divergence, interpreted through the lens of dynamic capabilities, reveals weak sensing signals regarding professional replacement but stronger signals requiring managerial seizing and institutional transformation. The bibliometric analysis further demonstrates a theoretical evolution of the university teacher’s role: from a technological adopter (2021–2022) to a mediator of ethics and integrity (2023–2024), and, finally, to a designer and architect of AI-enhanced learning environments (2025). The study contributes to theory by extending the application of Dynamic Capabilities Theory to higher education governance and by demonstrating that teachers’ perceptions of AI serve as indicators of institutional resilience. Based on Dynamic Capabilities Theory, the managerial recommendations are divided into three levels: government, institutional, and scientific-didactic (academic). Full article

The present conceptual paper proposes a purpose-driven experiential marketing framework for film-induced destinations, integrating sustainability and emotional engagement into destination management. The model under discussion comprises five interconnected dimensions, namely integrated experience, branding, people, emotional touchpoints and processes. These are articulated through purpose-driven marketing principles and aligned with selected Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicators. This approach positions sustainability as an inherent component of value creation rather than an external policy layer. The framework under discussion was developed through an interdisciplinary literature review and is illustrated through insights from an exploratory case study of Monsanto, a rural Portuguese village recently featured in HBO’s House of the Dragon. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of local stakeholders, including tourists, residents, entrepreneurs and institutional representatives. These interviews were analysed thematically to provide indicative evidence of the framework’s relevance and potential applicability. The findings suggest that emotional engagement, co-creation and territorial authenticity play a central role in shaping memorable film-related tourism experiences that are consistent with destination purpose and stakeholder well-being. The study also emphasises the strategic importance of storytelling, audiovisual narratives and collaborative governance in the strengthening of place identity and the support of sustainable differentiation. Despite its exploratory nature, the framework provides practical guidance for destination management organisations (DMOs), cultural programmers and creative industry actors. The article concludes by identifying avenues for future research, including cross-regional application, digital experimentation and the quantitative assessment of experiential dimensions. Driven by the national policy of total water resources control and efficiency improvement, the behavior of water resource utilization reduction by firms is widespread, which may have an impact on the value of firms. This study integrates dynamic capability theory and signaling theory to construct a dual-path analytical framework, systematically investigating the impact of water utilization reduction on firm value and its intrinsic mechanisms. Based on data from Chinese A-share listed companies spanning 2012–2023, fixed-effect models, mediation-effect tests, and heterogeneity analysis are employed for empirical verification. The results reveal that water utilization reduction exerts a significant dual-path promoting effect on firm value: it enhances financial performance (ROA) primarily through technological innovation, reflecting the process of resource orchestration and dynamic capability construction; concurrently, it boosts market performance (Tobin’s Q) mainly by improving ESG performance as a signaling channel, mirroring the capital market’s positive pricing of green signals. Further heterogeneity analysis indicates that these effects are more pronounced during the policy deepening stage, in non-water-intensive industries, and in humid/sub-humid regions. This study contributes theoretical support and empirical evidence for firms’ green transformation and the formulation of differentiated water resource policies by the government, highlighting the synergistic development of high-quality economic growth and ecological civilization construction. This study investigates the sustainability, resilience, and institutional performance of urban governance systems by operationalizing key thermodynamic principles energy, exergy, entropy, equilibrium, open systems, and irreversibility within a political and behavioral systems framework. Urban political systems are conceptualized as open, non-equilibrium systems, characterized by continuous flows of resources, information, and institutional feedback across metropolitan governance structures. Within this model, energy represents systemic inputs to urban governance, exergy denotes usable governing capacity at the city and metropolitan scale, and entropy reflects levels of institutional disorder, inefficiency, and systemic degradation affecting urban sustainability. The study first formulates a conceptual analytical model defining urban political entropy and systemic exergy as measurable variables associated with institutional stability, crisis-management capability, adaptability, and reform potential in urban and metropolitan governance. It then conducts a comparative empirical analysis of Germany, Türkiye, China, and South Africa using normalized indicators derived from international datasets for 2023, with particular attention to their implications for urban governance capacity and city-level institutional performance. These indicators are employed to construct proxy measures for the Exergy Efficiency Ratio, Societal and Institutional Entropy, and overall urban governance capacity. The comparative results reveal that open and decentralized governance systems tend to maintain higher exergy efficiency and lower entropy levels at the urban scale, whereas highly centralized systems, although effective in resource mobilization, tend to accumulate greater systemic entropy over time. Transitional governance systems exhibit hybrid and fluctuating thermodynamic characteristics in their urban institutional structures. The findings empirically support the Thermodynamic Model of Political Systems and demonstrate its utility as a predictive and diagnostic framework for evaluating urban institutional efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. Green total factor productivity (GTFP), as an important indicator considering both economic development and environmental protection, has prompted countries around the world to actively explore ways to improve it in the context of the global transition to a green economy. The Low-Carbon City Policy (LCCP) implemented by the Chinese government, along with the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone Policy (NBDCPZ), which serve as key carriers of green regulation and digital innovation, respectively, play an important role in improving green total factor productivity (GTFP) and achieving high-quality economic development. This study aims to deeply explore whether there is a collaborative enabling effect of the Low-Carbon City Policy (LCCP) and the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone Policy (NBDCPZ) on green total factor productivity (GTFP) and to reveal the internal mechanism by which they improve GTFP through green technological innovation and industrial agglomeration. Specifically, based on the panel data of 269 prefecture-level cities in China from 2006 to 2022, a “dual-pilot” policy is constructed through LCCP and NBDCPZ, and a multi-period difference-in-differences model (DID) is used to evaluate the collaborative effect of the “dual-pilot” policy on GTFP. The results show that the “dual-pilot” policy has a significant collaborative effect on green total factor productivity (GTFP), and its enabling effect is more obvious than that of the “single-pilot” policy. These conclusions still hold after a series of endogeneity and robustness tests. Mechanism analysis shows that the “dual-pilot” policy can also improve green total factor productivity (GTFP) through green technological innovation and industrial agglomeration. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the collaborative enabling effect of the “dual-pilot” policy is influenced by geographical location and population density. Specifically, the “dual-pilot” policy significantly promotes green total factor productivity (GTFP) in coastal cities and those with high population density. These research results provide a scientific basis for formulating green development policies in China and other countries, as well as a direction for subsequent research on the collaborative enabling effect of multiple policies. The Amazon Deforestation Arc remains a critical region for environmental governance, where land-use strategies must consider distinct legal and institutional frameworks across the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. This study applies the Potential Productivity Model (M3P), a theoretical radiation-based framework, to estimate the upper physiological limits of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) productivity on degraded pastures within the Arc of Deforestation. The model integrates satellite-derived solar radiation with climatic variables to quantify potential productivity under optimal biophysical conditions, providing an objective benchmark for planning-oriented bioenergy assessments. Estimated potential yields range from 153 to 178 t·ha−1·yr−1, consistent with global reference values reported for sugarcane in high-radiation environments and relevant for informing public policies such as Brazil’s Agroecological Zoning of Sugarcane. The results demonstrate that agroclimatic potential alone is insufficient to guide land-use decisions. While degraded pastures associated with the Cerrado biome may accommodate sugarcane cultivation as part of productive land recovery strategies, areas belonging to the Amazon biome require priority actions focused on ecological restoration through agroforestry and integrated crop–livestock–forest systems. Overall, the M3P model offers a scalable and scientifically grounded decision-support framework for strategic planning in environmentally sensitive tropical regions. Full article

The study investigates the presence of emerging contaminants in a river within a watershed located in the Brazilian semiarid region, specifically within the Caatinga biome, emphasizing the importance of environmental monitoring in areas that have historically been underrepresented in scientific research. The analysis focused on the associations between microplastics and pharmaceutical compounds, demonstrating that the discharge of untreated domestic effluents and the low efficiency of sanitation systems increase water resource contamination and threaten water security. The interdependence between these variables underscores the need for integrated public policies for waste management, complemented by environmental education strategies and technological innovations. The work makes an unprecedented contribution to expanding knowledge about emerging pollutants in semiarid environments, highlighting the urgency of holistic approaches, continuous monitoring, and strengthening environmental governance to ensure the sustainability and resilience of ecosystems like the Caatinga in the face of the challenges posed by global environmental change, urban growth, and those outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) pose an escalating health challenge in Africa, underscored by diagnostic deficiencies, inadequate surveillance, and limited health system capacity that contribute to late diagnoses and consequent preventable complications. This review adopts a comparative framework that considers DM and SCD as complementary indicator diseases, both metabolic and genetic, and highlights intersecting diagnostic, infrastructural, and governance hurdles relevant to AI-enabled screening in resource-constrained environments. The study synthesizes epidemiological data across both African and high-income regions and methodically catalogs machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) research by clinical application, including risk prediction, image-based diagnostics, remote patient monitoring, privacy-preserving learning, and governance frameworks. Our key observations reveal significant disparities in disease detection and health outcomes, driven by underdiagnosis, a lack of comprehensive newborn screening for SCD, and fragmented diabetes surveillance systems in Africa, despite the availability of effective diagnostic technologies in other regions. The reviewed literature on ML/DL shows high algorithmic accuracy, particularly in diabetic retinopathy screening and emerging applications in SCD microscopy. However, most studies are constrained by small, single-site datasets that lack robust external validation and do not align well with real-world clinical workflows. The review identifies persistent implementation challenges, including data scarcity, device variability, limited connectivity, and inadequate calibration and subgroup analysis. By integrating epidemiological insights into AI diagnostic capabilities and health system realities, this work extends beyond earlier surveys to offer a comprehensive, Africa-centric, implementation-focused synthesis. It proposes actionable operational and policy recommendations, including offline-first deployment strategies, federated learning approaches for low-bandwidth scenarios, integration with primary care and newborn screening initiatives, and enhanced governance structures, to promote equitable and scalable AI-enhanced diagnostics for NCDs. How Does Green Finance Influence Environmental Performance in China: Unveiling the Mechanisms and Regional Heterogeneity

Green finance is increasingly recognized as an important instrument for improving sustainable development. Existing research has focused on green finance’s impact on corporate environmental performance, failing to account for the complex regional mechanisms that shape its contribution to systemic sustainability. This study fills the gaps by examining the mechanism and spatial heterogeneity of green finance’s influences on regional sustainability measured by environmental performance. Using panel data from 30 Chinese provinces during 2010–2022, it shows that green finance increased from 0.318 to 0.539, while environmental performance improved from 0.441 to 0.656. The empirical evidence demonstrates that green finance has a robust positive effect on environmental performance, acting as an effective tool for environmental governance. This impact is primarily channeled through technological innovation and green consumption, with environmental regulation providing a synergistic moderating role. Furthermore, significant regional heterogeneity in sustainability outcomes is observed, while the effect is strongest in eastern China, unstable or negligible in old industrial bases, and unexpectedly negative in ecologically fragile Northwest China. The disparities are attributed to variations in local economic structure, institutional capacity, and development stage. Corresponding policy recommendations include improving the institutional framework, channeling financial resources to green technology R&D and sustainable consumption incentives, integrating green finance with environmental policies, and implementing region-specific strategies. This study offers practical benchmarks for China and other developing economies to leverage green finance as a driver of sustainable development. Full article

The integration of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek, into higher education offers transformative opportunities for personalised learning and academic productivity. However, their unregulated use raises concerns about academic integrity, critical thinking, and educational equity. This systematic review synthesises insights from 96 peer-reviewed articles, identifying six key intervention themes, namely, curriculum integration, policy and governance, faculty development, student-centred strategies, assessment adaptation, and technological infrastructure. Together, these themes form a comprehensive intervention framework designed to guide students’ ethical and effective engagement with AI. This review highlights the need for institutions to move beyond fragmented policies, fostering systemic cultural and pedagogical change to align AI use with authentic learning outcomes. By bridging theoretical gaps and providing actionable strategies, this framework equips educators and policymakers to scaffold responsible AI integration across diverse higher education contexts. Rural transport remains a critical factor of social inclusion in South Africa, particularly for people with disabilities who rely on public transport. This study explores the experiences of minibus taxi drivers in transporting passengers with disabilities in Mt Elias, a rural community in the KwaZulu-Natal province. A qualitative research design was adopted, involving semi-structured interviews with 15 drivers operating between Dalton and Mt Elias route. Thematic analysis was conducted using ATLAS.ti to identify key patterns and relationships across the dataset. The four key themes that emerged from the dataset are: infrastructure and environmental challenges, accessibility and support for passengers, operational and economic constraints, and human interactions and attitudes. Findings reveal that drivers face multiple barriers, including poor road conditions, limited vehicle space, and a lack of formal training, yet many demonstrate empathy and commitment to assisting passengers with disabilities. The study highlights the need for targeted policy interventions to improve road infrastructure, provide disability awareness training for drivers, and redesign vehicles for accessibility. Promoting inclusive rural transport requires coordinated action among government spheres, taxi associations, and disability advocacy groups. This research contributes new insights into the lived realities of rural drivers and promotes the importance of inclusive mobility as a component of social justice. Full article

Existing office buildings in Australia contribute to 24% of the nation’s electricity consumption and 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, with energy use projected to rise by 84%. Meeting the 2050 sustainability target and United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires improving sustainability within existing office buildings. This systematic review examines net zero energy and climate resilience strategies in these buildings by analysing 74 studies from scholarly literature, government reports, and industry publications. The literature search was conducted across Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases, with the final search in early 2025. Studies were selected based on keywords and research parameters. A narrative synthesis identified key technologies, evaluating the integration of net zero principles with climate resilience to enhance energy efficiency through HVAC modifications. Technologies like heat pumps, energy recovery ventilators, thermal energy storage, and phase change materials (PCMs) have been identified as crucial in reducing HVAC energy usage intensity (EUI). Lighting control and plug load management advancements are examined for reducing electricity demand. This review highlights the gap between academic research and practical applications, emphasising the need for comprehensive field studies to provide long-term performance data. Current regulatory frameworks influencing the net zero transition are discussed, with recommendations for policy actions and future research. This study links net zero performance with climate adaptation objectives for existing office buildings and provides recommendations for future research, retrofit planning, and policy development. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in educational settings is a vital responsibility that is often inconsistently implemented. There is a need for research to bridge the gap between policy and practice. This study employed a cross-sectional mixed-methods design in six schools in the capital city of Indonesia to identify key implementation barriers, strategies, and compliance levels in OHS. Data were collected from 217 teachers using a structured KPAP (Knowledge, Attitudes, Perceptions, Practices) survey and from an additional 38 teachers via Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Quantitatively, teachers showed highly positive attitudes (99.4% viewing OHS as a professional duty) and generally positive perceptions but implementation practices were sub-optimal (e.g., low participation in drills and PPE usage), showing a gap between awareness and action. Qualitatively, the main barriers identified were a lack of specific OHS regulation or guidance for schools, limited resources/infrastructure, and the perception of OHS as a low priority. Management strategies focused on external collaboration and ongoing in-school initiatives. In conclusion, a significant gap exists between OHS awareness and its integration into school management, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened governance, comprehensive policies, and sustained capacity-building to ensure a proactive, safe, and sustainable school environment for staff and students. Assessing the Impact of Digital Economic Development on the Resilience of China’s Agricultural Industry Chain

Based on panel data from China’s 31 provinces and municipalities covering 2011–2023, this study constructs a multidimensional evaluation system for digital economic development and agricultural industrial chain resilience within the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework. It systematically examines the impact of the digital economy on agricultural industrial chain resilience and its sub-dimensions, while introducing green finance as a moderating variable. The findings reveal: First, the development of the digital economy significantly enhances the resilience of the agricultural industrial chain. This conclusion withstands multiple robustness tests, and the impact of the digital economy on the three dimensions of agricultural industrial chain resilience (resistance, recovery, and reconstruction) varies, particularly exhibiting a negative effect on reconstruction. Second, the enabling effect of the digital economy on agricultural industrial chain resilience shows a significant spatial gradient. Regionally, resilience is ranked as “Production-Sales Balance Zones > Main Sales Zones > Main Production Zones” within grain functional zones, and “Northeast > West > East > Central” across China’s four major economic regions. Third, green finance development exerts a negative moderating effect on the pathway through which the digital economy enhances agricultural supply chain resilience, higher green finance levels weaken the marginal improvement effect of the digital economy. This study fills research gaps regarding the multidimensional impact of digital economic development on agricultural industrial chain resilience and empirically supplements the lack of evidence on the negative moderating mechanism of green finance and its sub-dimensions, providing policy tools for agricultural modernization and resilience governance. How Environmental Perception and Place Governance Shape Equity in Urban Street Greening: An Empirical Study of Chicago

Urban street greening structure plays a crucial role in promoting environmental justice and enhancing residents’ daily well-being, yet existing studies have primarily focused on vegetation quantity while neglecting how perception and governance interact to shape fairness. This study develops an integrated analytical framework that combines deep learning, machine learning, and spatial analysis to examine the impact of perceptual experience and socio-economic indicators on the equity of greening structure distribution in urban streets, and to reveal the underlying mechanisms driving this equity. Using DeepLabV3+ semantic segmentation, perception indices derived from street-view imagery, and population-weighted Gini coefficients, the study quantifies both the structural and perceptual dimensions of greening equity. XGBoost regression, SHAP interpretation, and Partial Dependence Plot analysis were applied to reveal the influence mechanism of the “Matthew effect” of perception and the Site governance responsiveness on the fairness of the green structure. The results identify two key findings: (1) perception has a positive driving effect and a negative vicious cycle effect on the formation of fairness, where positive perceptions such as beauty and safety gradually enhance fairness, while negative perceptions such as depression and boredom rapidly intensify inequality; (2) Site management with environmental sensitivity and dynamic mutual feedback to a certain extent determines whether the fairness of urban green structure can persist under pressure, as diverse Tree–Bush–Grass configurations reflect coordinated management and lead to more balanced outcomes. Policy strategies should therefore emphasize perceptual monitoring, flexible maintenance systems, and transparent public participation to achieve resilient and equitable urban street greening structures.
