Current learning and development approaches often struggle to capture dynamic individual capabilities, particularly the skills they acquire informally every day on the job. This dynamic creates a significant gap between what traditional models think people know and their actual performance, leading to an incomplete and often outdated understanding of how ready the workforce truly is, which can hinder organizational adaptability in rapidly evolving environments. This paper proposes a novel dynamic learner-state ecosystem—an AI-driven solution designed to bridge this gap. Our approach leverages specialized AI agents, orchestrated via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), to continuously track and evolve an individual’s multi-dimensional state (e.g., mastery, confidence, context, and decay). The seamless integration of in-workflow performance data will transform daily work activities into granular and actionable data points through AI-powered dynamic xAPI generation into Learning Record Stores (LRSs). This system enables continuous, authentic performance-based assessment, precise skill gap identification, and highly personalized interventions. The significance of this ecosystem lies in its ability to provide a real-time understanding of everyone’s capabilities, enabling more accurate workforce planning for the future and cultivating a workforce that is continuously learning and adapting. It ultimately helps to transform learning from a disconnected, occasional event into an integrated and responsive part of everyday work. Full article

This theoretical essay aims to analyze some of the socio-economic innovations introduced by Platform Capitalism Specifically, it focuses on two main aspects: first, the digital platform as a radical organizational innovation. Digital platforms represent a structural novelty in the market economy, signaling a new organization of production and labor. Second, the essay examines the role of platforms in directly generating value through the concept of “network value”. To this end, it explores the function of “business intelligence” as a strategic and competitive tool. Finally, the paper discusses the key issues associated with platform capitalism, which could threaten its social sustainability and contribute to economic and financial instability. These issues include the increasing commodification of everyday activities, the devaluation of paid labor in favor of free production driven by platform users (the so-called prosumers), and the emergence of proprietary and financial monopolies. Hence, digital platforms do not inherently ensure comprehensive social and environmental sustainability unless supported by targeted economic policy interventions. Conclusively, it is emphasized that defining robust social welfare frameworks—which account for emerging value creation processes—is imperative. Simultaneously, policymakers must incentivize the proliferation of cooperative platforms capable of fostering experimental circular economy models aligned with ecological sustainability. Full article

Navigating Paradox for Sustainable Futures: Organizational Capabilities and Integration Mechanisms in Sustainability Transformation

This study investigates the critical capabilities and integration mechanisms that enable organizations to achieve substantive sustainability transformations. Using a mixed-methods approach combining survey data (n = 234), in-depth interviews (n = 42), and comparative case studies (n = 6), the research identifies how organizations effectively navigate sustainability paradoxes while developing integration practices that embed sustainability throughout organizational systems. Our research is primarily grounded in paradox theory, complemented by insights from organizational learning theory, institutional logics, and power dynamics perspectives to develop a comprehensive theoretical framework. Statistical analysis reveals strong relationships between paradox navigation capabilities and transformation outcomes (β = 0.31, p < 0.01), with integration practices emerging as the strongest predictor of sustainability success (β = 0.42, p < 0.01). Qualitative findings illuminate four essential integration mechanisms—governance integration, strategic integration, operational integration, and performance integration—and their temporal development. The significant interaction between power mobilization and integration practices (β = 0.19, p < 0.01) demonstrates that structural interventions are insufficient without attention to power relationships. The research contributes to sustainability science by advancing theory on paradoxical tensions in transformation processes, demonstrating how organizations can transcend the gap between sustainability rhetoric and substantive action through both structural integration and power-conscious approaches. By identifying contextual contingencies across sectors and organizational types, the study challenges universal prescriptions for sustainability transformation, offering instead a nuanced framework for creating organizational conditions conducive to context-specific transformation toward more sustainable futures. Our findings offer practical guidance for organizations navigating the complex landscape of sustainability transformation and contribute to the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Data visualization is a key activity in data-driven decision making and is gaining momentum in many organizational contexts. However, the role and contribution of both end-user development (EUD) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for data visualization and analytics are still not clear or systematically studied. This work investigates how effectively AI-supported EUD tools may assist visual analytics tasks in organizations. An exploratory case study with eight interviews with key informants allowed a deep understanding of data analysis and visualization practices in a large Italian company. It aimed at identifying the various professional roles and competencies necessary in the business context, understanding the data sources and data formats exploited in daily activities, and formulating suitable hypotheses to guide the design of AI-supported EUD tools for data analysis and visualization. In particular, the results of interviews with key informants yielded the development of a prototype of an LLM-based EUD environment, which was then used with selected target users to collect their opinions and expectations about this type of intervention in their work practice and organization. All the data collected during the exploratory case study finally led to defining a set of design guidelines for AI-supported EUD for data visualization. Full article

Background and Objectives: Emotional intelligence (EI) plays a critical role in safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of healthcare workers, acting as a buffer against burnout, and influencing the quality of patient care. Despite its significance, there remains a need to understand how EI levels correlate with burnout and what factors predict burnout in high-stress healthcare environments. This study, conducted at King Khaled Hospital in Al-Majmaah, Saudi Arabia, aims to assess the EI levels of healthcare staff, to determine the relationship between EI and burnout, and to identify key predictors of burnout to inform targeted interventions for improving workforce resilience and patient outcomes. Materials and Methods: Both self-reporting and standardized tests were integrated using cross-sectional surveys to evaluate the EI of each participant and the burnout they experience by averaging the rating of a 30-item questionnaire, allowing comparison of the interaction between EI, burnout, and work factors. Results: A significantly moderate level of EI was identified, while a high level of well-being was associated with a low level of burnout, and a high level of emotionality was associated with a high level of burnout. Results indicated that high job demands, call rotation, or casual work, and insufficient staff support were organizational correlates of burnout. Conclusions: Improving EI with a focus on the well-being sub-dimension may prevent burnout, and, for that, the interventions must be specific at both personal and organizational levels. Full article

The transition toward integrated urban–rural development represents a complex socio-technical challenge in post-poverty alleviation China. This study examines how the reform of agricultural service systems—especially the rollout of full-process socialization services—reshapes urban–rural integration by embedding new institutional, technological, and organizational structures into rural production. Drawing on staggered provincial pilot programs, we apply a double machine learning framework to assess the causal impact of service reform on the urban–rural income gap, labor reallocation, and agricultural productivity. Results show that agricultural socialization services enhance systemic efficiency by reducing labor bottlenecks, increasing technology diffusion, and fostering large-scale coordination in agricultural operations. These effects are most pronounced in provinces with stronger institutional capacity and higher levels of mechanization. The findings highlight agricultural service reform as a systemic intervention that alters resource allocation logics, drives institutional change, and fosters structural convergence across urban and rural domains. This research contributes to the understanding of agricultural modernization as a systems-engineered solution for regional inequality. Full article

Collaborative business ecosystems (CBEs) are increasingly exposed to disruptive events (e.g., pandemics, supply chain breakdowns, cyberattacks) that challenge organizational adaptability and value creation. Traditional approaches to resilience and robustness often fail to capture the full range of systemic responses. This study introduces a unified mathematical framework to evaluate four crisis response modes—plasticity, resilience, transformative resilience, and antifragility—within complex adaptive networks. Grounded in complex systems and collaborative network theory, our model formalizes both internal organizational capabilities (e.g., adaptability, learning, innovation, structural flexibility) and strategic interventions (e.g., optionality, buffering, information sharing, fault-injection protocols), linking them to pre- and post-crisis performance via dynamic adjustment functions. A composite performance score is defined across four dimensions (Innovation, Contribution, Prestige, and Responsiveness to Business Opportunities), using capability–strategy interaction matrices, weighted performance change functions, and structural transformation modifiers. The sensitivity analysis and scenario simulations enable a comparative evaluation of organizational configurations, strategy impacts, and phase-transition thresholds under crisis. This indicator-based formulation provides a quantitative bridge between resilience theory and practice, facilitating evidence-based crisis management in networked business environments. Full article

Background: Tobacco use is disproportionately high in rural areas, contributing to elevated cancer mortality, yet it often goes untreated due to limited access to care, high poverty and uninsured rates, and co-occurring substance use disorders (SUDs). This study explored the utility of using rapid qualitative analysis (RQA) to guide the adaptation of a tobacco-free workplace program (TFWP) in Texas healthcare centers serving adults with SUDs in medically underserved areas. Methods: From September–December 2023 and May–July 2024, we conducted 11 pre-implementation, virtual semi-structured group interviews focused on adapting the TFWP to local contexts (N = 69); 7 with providers (n = 34) and managers (n = 12) and 4 with patients (n = 23) in 6 healthcare centers. Two qualified analysts independently summarized transcripts, using RQA templates of key domains drawn from interview guides to summarize and organize data in matrices, enabling systematic comparison. Results: The main themes identified were minimal organizational tobacco cessation support and practices, and attitudinal barriers, as follows: (1) the need for program materials tailored to local populations; (2) limited tobacco cessation practices and partial policies—staff requested guidance on enhancing tobacco screenings and cessation delivery, and integrating new interventions; (3) contradictory views on treating tobacco use that can inhibit implementation (e.g., wanting to quit yet anxious that quitting would cause SUD relapse); and (4) inadequate environmental supports—staff requested treating tobacco-use training, patients group cessation counseling; both requested nicotine replacement therapy. Conclusions: RQA identified key areas requiring capacity development through participants’ willingness to adopt the following adaptations: program content (e.g., trainings and tailored educational materials), delivery methods/systems (e.g., adopting additional tobacco care interventions) and implementation strategies (e.g., integrating tobacco cessation practices into routine care) critical to optimizing TFWP fit and implementation. The study findings can inform timely formative evaluation processes to design and tailor similar intervention efforts by addressing site-specific needs and implementation barriers to enhance program uptake. Despite reaching intermediate English proficiency, many bilingual secondary students in Colombia struggle with academic writing due to difficulties in organizing ideas and expressing arguments coherently. To address this issue, this study explores the integration of AI-powered tools—Grammarly and ChatGPT—within the Writing Workshop Instructional Model (WWIM) to enhance students’ writing skills. Conducted at a bilingual secondary school, the intervention targeted 10th grade ESL learners and focused on improving grammar accuracy, textual coherence, and organizational structure. Drawing on Galbraith’s model of writing as content generation, the study adopted a design-based research methodology, incorporating iterations of implementation, feedback, and refinement. The results indicate that combining WWIM with AI feedback significantly improved students’ academic writing performance. Learners reported greater confidence and engagement when revising drafts using automated suggestions. These findings highlight the pedagogical potential of integrating AI tools into writing instructions and offer practical implications for enhancing academic writing curricula in secondary ESL contexts. Background: Nursing students often experience heightened levels of stress during clinical training due to the dual demands of academic and clinical responsibilities. These stressors, compounded by environmental and organizational factors, can adversely affect students’ well-being, academic performance, and the quality of patient care they deliver. Aim: This study aimed to identify the key stressors influencing nursing students’ perceptions of single-shift quality (SSQ) during clinical training and to examine how well students can predict the quality of their shift based on pre-shift expectations. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey design was implemented, collecting pre- and post-shift data from 325 nursing students undergoing clinical training in Alabama. The survey measured 13 domains related to workload, environmental conditions, organizational interactions, coping strategies, and overall satisfaction. Paired t tests and linear regressions were used to assess changes in perception and identify key predictors of SSQ. Results: This study found significant discrepancies between students’ pre- and post-shift evaluations across multiple domains, including internal environment, organizational interaction with clinical faculty/preceptors, and coping strategies (p < 0.001). Students also accurately predicted stable factors such as patient characteristics and external environment. Pre-shift expectations did not significantly predict post-shift experiences. Post-shift perceptions revealed that stress-coping strategies and collegiality were the strongest predictors of shift quality. Conclusion: Students enter clinical shifts with optimistic expectations that often do not align with actual experiences, particularly regarding support and stress management. The SSQ framework offers a valuable tool for identifying gaps in clinical training and guiding interventions that foster resilience and better alignment between expectations and real-world practice. Physician burnout is a multifaceted syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a diminished sense of personal accomplishment. It affects physicians at various stages of their medical training more prevalently than their peers in the general population. This article aims to explore the systemic challenges contributing to physician burnout and the role of individual resilience as a mitigating factor. The article highlights that burnout not only impacts physician well-being but also patient care, organizational performance and healthcare costs. Factors such as heavy workload, long hours and poor interpersonal relationships significantly contribute to burnout, while personal characteristics and coping mechanisms can influence its prevalence. By examining the interplay between systemic challenges and individual resilience, this article contributes to a deeper understanding of physician burnout. It offers insights into potential strategies for mitigation, highlighting the importance of both organizational and personal interventions in addressing this escalating crisis. Full article

Perfectionism and Workaholism as Barriers to Lifelong Learning and Occupational Sustainability: A Cross-Professional Analysis

Workaholism and perfectionism have increasingly been identified as significant obstacles to effective lifelong learning and skills development, ultimately undermining long-term career adaptability and organizational resilience. This study explores the predictive role of perfectionism and professional workaholism, with a particular focus on their implications for continuous education and occupational sustainability—defined as employees’ ability to remain adaptable and resilient over time. Using a cross-sectional quantitative design, data were collected from 105 participants (54 IT professionals and 51 nurses) who completed standardized measures of perfectionism and workaholism and reported their cognitive–emotional readiness for further training. Four regression models were employed to assess the impact of the three perfectionism dimensions and profession on overall workaholism and its subcomponents (excessive work, compulsive work, supplementary work). Socially prescribed perfectionism emerged as a strong predictor, accounting for over one-third of the variance in workaholism (β = 0.37; R2_adj = 0.368; p < 0.001), while self-oriented perfectionism significantly predicted excessive work (β = 0.25; p = 0.015). Professional domain had no significant effect, indicating the trans-professional nature of these psychological barriers. Additionally, workaholism was associated with reduced cognitive–emotional availability for ongoing training, highlighting its detrimental effects on lifelong learning. Limitations include the cross-sectional design and reliance on convenience sampling. From a practical perspective, the findings support interventions targeting maladaptive perfectionism, aiming to enhance engagement in continuous professional education and foster sustainable work environments, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 and SDG 8). This study aimed to generate data on patient follow-up and cardiometabolic risk management during the early years of a public university family medicine group in Québec (Canada) that provides multidisciplinary care to adults with cardiometabolic conditions, in order to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of its care model. Methods: This was a retrospective longitudinal study. Patients treated at the clinic from 31 January 2020 (clinic opening) to 8 May 2024 (n = 96) were invited to consent to the use of their medical data for research. Results: A total of 52 patients consented and were included in the study. Upon entry at the clinic, >90% of patients had anthropometry and blood pressure (BP) measured, but plasma glucose and lipids were assessed among 50% and 79% of patients, respectively. A total of 36 patients completed the personalized multidisciplinary care program. No evidence of associations between the total number of appointments or appointments with the registered dietitian specifically with changes in BMI, waist circumference, and BP was found. However, each pharmaceutical intervention was associated with a −0.51 cm (95%CI: −1.03, 0.02; p = 0.06) change in waist circumference and a −1.49 mm Hg (95%CI: −2.56, −0.43, p = 0.01) change in diastolic BP. Conclusions: These data highlight the challenges of implementing a research-oriented clinic within Québec’s public healthcare system. Full article

Integrating Telemedical Supervision, Responder Apps, and Data-Driven Triage: The RuralRescue Model of Personalized Emergency Care

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate a regional implementation project for rural emergency care (RuralRescue) and to examine how its components and outcomes may support personalized approaches in emergency medicine. While not originally designed as a personalized medicine intervention, the project combined digital, educational, and organizational innovations that enable patient-specific adaptation of care processes. Methods: Conducted in the rural district of Vorpommern-Greifswald (Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania, Germany), the intervention included (1) standardized cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for laypersons, (2) a geolocation-based first responder app for medically trained volunteers, and (3) integration of a tele-emergency physician (TEP) system with prehospital emergency medical services (EMSs). A multi-perspective pre–post evaluation covered medical, economic, and organizational dimensions. Primary and secondary outcomes included bystander CPR rates, responder arrival times, telemedical triage decisions, diagnostic concordance, hospital transport avoidance, economic simulations, workload, and technology acceptance. Results: Over 12,600 citizens were trained in CPR and the responder app supported early intervention in hundreds of cases. TEPs remotely assisted 3611 emergency calls, including delegated medication in 17.8% and hospital transport avoidance in 24.3% of cases. Return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) was achieved in 35.6% of cases with early CPR. Diagnostic concordance reached 84.9%, and documentation completeness 92%. Centralized coordination of TEP units reduced implementation costs by over 90%. Psychological evaluation indicated variable digital acceptance by role and experience. Conclusions: RuralRescue demonstrates that digitally supported, context-aware, and regionally integrated emergency care models can contribute significantly to personalized emergency medicine and can be cost-effective. The project highlights how intervention intensity, responder deployment, and treatment decisions can be tailored to patient needs, professional capacity, and regional structures—even in resource-limited rural areas. In higher education, the emotional intelligence (EI) of university professors, defined as the ability to perceive, understand, manage and utilize emotions effectively, is increasingly recognized as a pivotal factor in enhancing students’ academic achievement and psychological well-being. However, the scarcity of studies directly linking professors’ EI to students’ well-being highlights a critical research gap. This systematic review investigates how professors’ emotional competencies influence student outcomes—such as academic performance, engagement, motivation, and mental health—and identifies the factors that mediate or moderate these effects. Findings indicate that professors’ EI, particularly empathy, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills, significantly enhances student engagement, motivation, and academic satisfaction, with indirect effects on psychological well-being. Cultural context, teaching modality (e.g., online vs. in-person), and professors’ age and experience moderate these effects and influence effect sizes. Qualitative synthesis further highlighted contextual gaps in the literature. The limited focus on well-being and outcomes and reliance on self-report measures underscore the need for longitudinal, culturally diverse studies and performance-based EI assessments. The value of this research lies in its potential to inform evidence-based educational practices and institutional policies. By elucidating the role of professors’ EI, the review lays the groundwork for developing faculty training programs aimed at strengthening emotional competencies and fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments that promote student growth and resilience. This is especially relevant given the growing prevalence of stress, anxiety, and disengagement among university students, exacerbated by post-pandemic challenges and academic pressures. Understanding the impact of EI can inform culturally responsive interventions, improve student retention, and enhance institutional effectiveness, thereby addressing a pressing need in contemporary higher education. In today’s rapidly evolving technological, social, and cultural landscape, universities have both the opportunity and the responsibility to act as catalysts for the creation of an educational culture that promotes social well-being. This requires adopting educational and organizational models that prioritize human care and the quality of interpersonal relationships. To be effective, these priorities must be integrated into all university operations, from governance to student support and talent development. Full article
