In this study, we investigate the nonlinear dynamical behavior of a one-dimensional linear piecewise-smooth discontinuous (LPSD) map with a negative slope, motivated by its occurrence in systems exhibiting discontinuities, such as power electronic converters. The objective of the proposed research is to develop an analytical approach. Analytical conditions are derived for the existence of stable period-1 and period-2 orbits within the third quadrant of the parameter space defined by slope coefficients a<0 and b<0. The coexistence of multiple attractors is demonstrated. We also show that a novel class of orbits exists in which both points lie entirely in either the left or right domain. These orbits are shown to eventually exhibit periodic behavior, and a closed-form expression is derived to compute the number of iterations required for a trajectory to converge to such orbits. This method also enhances the ease of analyzing system stability by mapping the state–variable dynamics using a non-smooth discontinuous map. The analytical findings are validated using bifurcation diagrams, cobweb plots, and basin of attraction visualizations. Full article

The chaotic dynamics observed in mathematical models of cancer can correspond to the unpredictable tumor growth and treatment responses seen in clinical settings. Suppressing this chaos is a significant challenge in theoretical oncology. This paper investigates and compares four distinct control strategies designed to stabilize a chaotic three-dimensional tumor-immune interaction model. The objective is to steer the system from its chaotic attractor to a target unstable periodic orbit, representing a transition to a more regular and predictable dynamic. The strategies, all based on the external force control paradigm, include continuous control, a simple state-dependent intermittent control, an improved intermittent control with a minimum activation duration to suppress chattering, and an adaptive intermittent control with a time-varying feedback gain. The performance of each strategy is quantitatively evaluated based on tracking accuracy and the required control effort. Full article

Low Earth orbit (LEO) signal of opportunity (SOP) positioning relies on the accumulation of epochs obtained through prolonged observation periods. The contribution of an LEO satellite single epoch to positioning accuracy is influenced by multi-level characteristics that are challenging for traditional models. To address this limitation, we propose an Agent-Weighted Recursive Least Squares (RLS) Positioning Framework (AWR-PF). This framework employs an agent to comprehensively analyze individual epoch characteristics, assess their credibility, and convert them into adaptive weights for RLS iterations. We developed a novel Markov Decision Process (MDP) model to assist the agent in addressing the epoch weighting problem and trained the agent utilizing the Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) algorithm on 107 h of Iridium signal data. Experimental validation on a separate 28 h Iridium signal test set through 97 positioning trials demonstrated that AWR-PF achieves superior average positioning accuracy compared to both standard RLS and randomly weighted RLS throughout nearly the entire iterative process. In a single positioning trial, AWR-PF improves positioning accuracy by up to 45.15% over standard RLS. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents the first instance where an AI algorithm is used as the core decision-maker in LEO SOP positioning, establishing a groundbreaking paradigm for future research. Surface and sub-surface atomic configurations are critical for catalysis as they host the active sites governing electrochemical processes. This study employs density functional theory (DFT) calculations and Monte Carlo simulations combined with the cluster-expansion approach to investigate atom distribution and Pt segregation in Pt-Fe alloys across varying Pt/Fe ratios. Our simulations reveal a strong tendency for Pt atoms to segregate to the surface layer while Fe atoms enrich the sub-surface region. Crucially, the calculations predict the stability of a periodic Pt2Fe alloy surface model, characterized by specific defect structures, at low platinum content and low annealing temperatures. Electronic structure analysis indicates that forming this Pt2Fe surface alloy lowers the d-band center of Pt atoms, weakening CO adsorption and thereby enhancing resistance to CO poisoning. Although defect-induced strains can modulate the d-band center, crystal orbital Hamilton population (COHP) analysis confirms that such strains generally strengthen Pt-CO interactions. Therefore, the theoretical design of Pt2Fe alloy surfaces and controlling defect density are predicted to be effective strategies for enhancing catalyst resistance to CO poisoning. This work highlights the advantages of periodic Pt2Fe surface models for anti-CO poisoning and provides computational guidance for designing efficient Pt-based electrocatalysts. Full article

Continuous low thrust is widely used in orbit transfer maneuvers. If the unknown maneuvers are not correctly compensated, the orbiting accuracy will be seriously affected. We propose a rapid method for pre-identifying thrust acceleration based on single-arc orbit determination in order to determine the orbit of non-cooperative continuous low-thrust maneuvering spacecraft. The single-arc orbit determination results of two ground-based radar observations with a certain time interval are used to inversely determine the direction and magnitude of acceleration of the spacecraft under continuous thrust based on their relationship with satellite orbit parameters. The solution error is relatively small when using this method, even over a short period of time when data are sparse. The results can then be applied to the orbital adjustment of a satellite. The results show that when the satellite climbs with maximum tangential acceleration, the interval between the two radar observations is greater than 7 h, and the proposed method can rapidly pre-identify tangential thrust acceleration with a solution error of less than 5%. When the satellite adjusts the orbital plane with the maximum normal acceleration, the average relative measurement error of the normal acceleration is about 20% when the time interval between two observations is 24 h. The longer the observation interval and the greater the thrust acceleration, the smaller the relative error. The calculation results can be used as the initial value for precision orbit determination of continuous low-thrust maneuvering spacecraft. Full article

The fixed-time trajectory tracking control problem of the uncertain nonlinear Euler–Lagrange system is studied. To ensure the fast, high-precision trajectory tracking performance of this system, a non-singular terminal sliding-mode controller based on Gaussian process regression is proposed. The control algorithm proposed in this paper is applicable to periodic motion scenarios, such as spacecraft autonomous orbital rendezvous and repetitive motions of robotic manipulators. Gaussian process regression is employed to establish an offline data-driven model, which is utilized for compensating parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. The non-singular terminal sliding-mode control strategy is used to avoid singularity and ensure fast convergence of tracking errors. In addition, under the Lyapunov framework, the fixed-time convergence stability of the closed-loop system is rigorously demonstrated. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified through simulations on a spacecraft rendezvous mission and periodic joint trajectory tracking for a robotic manipulator. Full article

The Beidou Global System (BDS-3) innovatively achieves autonomous navigation using inter-satellite links (ISL) across the entire constellation, but it still faces challenges such as the limitations of the prior constraint orbital accuracy and the overall constellation rotation. The gradual availability of satellite laser ranging (SLR) data, with advantages of high precision and no ambiguous parameters, can provide new ideas for solving the current problem. This work firstly deduces the mathematical model for orbit determination by combining inter-satellite links and the introduced satellite laser ranging observations, then designs orbit determination experiments with different prior orbit constraints and different observation data, and finally evaluates the impacts of the prior orbits and the introduction of SLR observations from two dimensions: orbit accuracy and constellation rotation. The experimental results using one month of measured data show the following: (1) There is good consistency among different days, and the accuracy of the prior orbits affects the performance of the orbit determination and the consistency. Compared with broadcast ephemerides, using precise ephemerides as prior constraints significantly improves the consistency, and the orbit accuracy can be increased by about 75%. (2) The type of observation data affects the performance of the orbit determination. Introducing SLR observations can improve the orbit accuracy by approximately 13% to 26%. (3) Regardless of whether broadcast ephemerides or precise ephemerides are used as prior constraints, the constellation translation and rotation still exist after introducing SLR observations. Among the translation parameters, TX is the largest, followed by TY, and TZ is the smallest; all three rotation parameters (RX, RY, and RZ) show relatively large values, which may be related to the limited number of available satellite laser ranging stations during this period. (4) After considering the constellation translation and rotation, the orbit accuracy under different prior constraints remains at the same level. The statistical root mean square error (RMSE) indicates that the orbit accuracy of inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO) satellites in three directions is better than 20 cm, while the accuracy of medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites in along-track, cross-track, and radial directions is better than 10 cm, 8 cm, and 5 cm, respectively. Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation of a Multidisciplinary Tumor Board (MDTB) strategy in the treatment of patients with uveal melanoma. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the implementation of MDTB meetings over a 24-month period. During this time, 72 intraocular tumors were discussed, including 59 confirmed cases of uveal melanoma. The MDTB involved a core group of specialists (e.g., ophthalmologists, oncologists, and radiologists), with other experts included when clinically appropriate. To assess patient satisfaction with the MDTB approach, a structured questionnaire was administered, including items on clarity of communication, perceived quality of care, and overall satisfaction, which were ranked on a 5-point scale. Results: A total of 319 patients with ocular, periocular, or orbital tumors were discussed during the study period, of which, 72 had intraocular tumors. A total of 13 (18%) were diagnosed to have choroidal metastases, whereas 59 (82%) had uveal melanomas. The average time between patient care and MDTB discussion was 15.9 days (IQR: 7.5–16.5). The mean time between the case discussion and the implementation of recommendations (diagnostic, therapeutic, or referral decisions) was 14.8 days (IQR: 6.0–23.75). Overall, 4 (7%) patients were classified as Stage I, 16 (27%) as Stage IIa, 18 (31%) as Stage IIb, 7 (12%) as Stage IIIa, 2 (3%) as Stage IIIb, and 12 (20%) as Stage IV. Regarding the satisfaction questionnaire, all patients (100%) agreed to have the clinical case discussed at the TB even though this could result in a delay in diagnostic/therapeutic implementation. However, only 60% of patients perceived they had been directly involved in the decision-making process. Conclusions: In selected cases of uveal melanoma and other types of cancer, MDTBs should be recognized as a gold standard in cancer care, allowing for comprehensive decision-making that draws on a wide range of highly specialized expertise. Background: The combined diphtheria–tetanus–acellular pertussis (three-component), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib, conjugate), and ACYW135 meningococcal (conjugate) vaccine (DTaP-Hib-MCV4) offers a promising alternative to single-component vaccines, potentially simplifying immunization schedules and improving vaccination coverage. Methods: We evaluated the safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy of DTaP-Hib-MCV4 in animal models. Acute and long-term toxicity studies were conducted in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with equal numbers of male and female animals. Immunogenicity was assessed in female NIH mice and SD rats using a three-dose regimen at 14-day intervals. Orbital blood was collected 14 days post-immunization to measure IgG titers against pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, Hib, and meningococcal antigens. The protective efficacy was determined using potency tests for the pertussis, diphtheria, and tetanus components; passive protection studies for Hib; and serum bactericidal antibody (SBA) titers against A/C/Y/W135 meningococcal serogroups. Results: Acute and repeated-dose toxicity studies in SD rats showed no signs of abnormal toxicity or irritation at either high (three doses/rat) or low (one dose/rat) doses levels. The no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) for DTaP-Hib-MCV4 was established at three doses/rat after 8 weeks of repeated intramuscular administration and a 4-week recovery period. Specific IgG antibodies against all the vaccine components were detected in animal sera at both one and three doses/rat, with no evidence of immunotoxicity. Following two-dose primary immunization in murine models, the combined vaccine elicited robust antigen-specific antibody responses, with geometric mean titers (GMTs) as follows: 1,280,000 for pertussis toxin (PT); 761,093 for filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA); 1,159,326 for pertactin (PRN); 1,659,955 for diphtheria toxoid (DT); 1,522,185 for tetanus toxoid (TT); 99 for Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib); and 25,600, 33,199, 8300, and 9051 for serogroups A, C, Y, and W135 of Neisseria meningitidis, respectively. In the rat models, three-dose primary immunization also elicited robust antigen-specific antibody responses. Protection studies demonstrated efficacy against pertussis, tetanus toxin, and diphtheria toxin challenges. In the Hib challenge study, none of the 10 animals given anti-DTaP-Hib-MCV4 antiserum developed bacteremia after the live Hib challenge (vs. 5814/0.1 mL in the negative control, p < 0.001). In addition, the SBA titers against meningococcal serogroups exceeded the protective threshold (≥1:8) in 92.2% of the immunized mice and 100% of the immunized rats. Crucially, the combined vaccine induced potent immune responses and protective efficacy, with antibody levels and protection against each component antigen comparable to or greater than those of the individual components: DTaP, Hib, and MCV4. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that the DTaP-Hib-MCV4 combined vaccine is both safe and immunogenic, supporting its potential as a viable alternative to individual vaccines. This combined vaccine may streamline immunization programs and enhance vaccination coverage. Full article

The degradation and loss of arable soils pose significant challenges to global food security, requiring advanced mapping and monitoring techniques to improve soil and crop management. This study evaluates the integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and orbital sensor data for monitoring and quantifying gullies with low-cost data. The research focuses on a gully in southern Brazil, utilizing high-spatial-resolution imagery to analyze its evolution over a 25-year period (2000–2024). Photointerpretation and manual delineation procedures were adopted to define gully shoulder lines, based on low-cost and multiple-spatial-resolution data from Google Earth Pro (GEP), UAVs and conventional aerial photographs. Planimetric, volumetric, climatic, and pedological parameters were assessed and evaluated over time. Field inspections supported our interpretations. The results show that gully expansion can be effectively mapped and monitored by combining high-spatial-resolution GEP data with aerial imagery. The gully area has increased by more than 50% over the past two decades, based on GEP data, which were corroborated by submeter-resolution UAV data. The findings indicate that the erosive process remains active, progressing toward the base level. These results provide critical insights for land managers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders to implement targeted soil recovery strategies and mitigate further land degradation. When a space target malfunctions and is no longer controlled by its attitude control system, it usually tumbles in orbit and exhibits a slow spinning state. Accurately estimating the on-orbit attitude of spinning space targets is of vital importance for ensuring the operation of space assets. Moreover, it plays a significant role in tasks such as reentry observation and collision avoidance. Currently, most existing methods estimate the attitude of space targets by using a single inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) for long-term observation. However, this approach not only requires a long observation time but also fails to estimate the attitude of spinning targets. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel approach for estimating the attitude of spinning space targets, which utilizes the joint observations of a multiple-station ISAR. Specifically, the proposed method fully exploits the projection principle of ISAR imaging and uses an ISAR high-resolution network (ISAR-HRNet) to automatically extract the projection features of typical components of the target. Then, the analytical expressions for the target’s instantaneous attitude and spin vector under the multi-station observation imaging projection model are derived. Based on the extracted features of the typical components, the lengths, orientations, and spin vectors of the space target are determined. Importantly, the proposed method can achieve the attitude estimation of the spinning space targets within a single observation period, without the need for manual intervention or prior information about the target’s three-dimensional (3D) model. Additionally, the analytical method for solving the spin vector offers high efficiency and accuracy. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed attitude estimation algorithm is verified by experiments on simulated data, and the performance of the ISAR-HRNet is also tested in the key point extraction experiments using measured data. The three-tiered microbial food chain without maintenance under leachate recirculation is the subject of a mathematical seven-dimensional dynamical system that is proposed in this work. This model captures the complex interactions between chlorophenol degraders, phenol degraders, and methanogens in the presence of hydrogen inhibition. The implementation allows for investigation of how hydrogen levels affect the overall system dynamics and phenol production. There is a thorough qualitative analysis provided. A stability analysis of equilibrium points is performed. It is demonstrated that the persistence of the three bacteria is correlated with the existence of the positive equilibrium point, assuming some monotonicity properties on the growth rates. Asymptotic coexistence is satisfied, although periodic orbit possibilities are not ruled out. In order to decrease the amount of organic materials within the reactor, we suggest an optimal strategy on the rate of leachate recirculation in the second stage. Lastly, we offer a few numerical investigations that support and strengthen the theoretical conclusions. Full article

A Library of 77 Multibody Solar and Extrasolar Subsystems—A Review of Their Dynamical Properties, Global Mean-Motion Resonances, and the Landau-Damped Mean Tidal Fields

We revisit 77 relaxed (extra)solar multibody (sub)systems containing 2–9 bodies orbiting about gravitationally dominant central bodies. The listings are complete down to (sub)systems with 5 orbiting bodies and additionally contain 33 smaller systems with 2–4 orbiting bodies. Most of the multiplanet systems (68) have been observed outside of our solar system, and very few of them (5) exhibit classical Laplace resonances (LRs). The remaining 9 subsystems have been found in our solar system; they include 7 well-known satellite groups in addition to the four gaseous giant planets and the four terrestrial planets, and they exhibit only one classical Laplace resonant chain, the famous Galilean LR. The orbiting bodies (planets, dwarfs, or satellites) appear to be locked in/near global mean-motion resonances (MMRs), as these are determined in reference to the orbital period of the most massive (most inert) body in each (sub)system. We present a library of these 77 multibody subsystems for future use and reference. The library listings of dynamical properties also include regular spacings of the orbital semimajor axes. Regularities in the spatial configurations of the bodies were determined from patterns that had existed in the mean tidal field that drove multibody migrations toward MMRs, well before the tidal field was erased by the process of `gravitational Landau damping’ which concluded its work when all major bodies had finally settled in/near the global MMRs presently observed. Finally, detailed comparisons of results help us discern the longest commonly-occurring MMR chains, distinguish the most important groups of triple MMRs, and identify a new criterion for the absence of librations in triple MMRs. Short-Term Optimal Scheduling of Pumped-Storage Units via DDPG with AOS-LSTM Flow-Curve Fitting

The short-term scheduling of pumped-storage hydropower plants is characterised by high dimensionality and nonlinearity and is subject to multiple operational constraints. This study proposes an intelligent scheduling framework that integrates an Atomic Orbital Search (AOS)-optimised Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network with the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm to minimise water consumption during the generation period while satisfying constraints such as system load and safety states. Firstly, the AOS-LSTM model simultaneously optimises the number of hidden neurons, batch size, and training epochs to achieve high-precision fitting of unit flow–efficiency characteristic curves, reducing the fitting error by more than 65.35% compared with traditional methods. Subsequently, the high-precision fitted curves are embedded into a Markov decision process to guide DDPG in performing constraint-aware load scheduling. Under a typical daily load scenario, the proposed scheduling framework achieves fast inference decisions within 1 s, reducing water consumption by 0.85%, 1.78%, and 2.36% compared to standard DDPG, Particle Swarm Optimisation, and Dynamic Programming methods, respectively. In addition, only two vibration-zone operations and two vibration-zone crossings are recorded, representing a reduction of more than 90% compared with the above two traditional optimisation methods, significantly improving scheduling safety and operational stability. The results validate the proposed method’s economic efficiency and reliability in high-dimensional, multi-constraint pumped-storage scheduling problems and provide strong technical support for intelligent scheduling systems. To study the orbits of satellites, a galaxy can be modeled either by means of a static gravitational potential or by live N-body particles. Analytic potentials allow for fast calculations but are idealized and non-responsive. On the other hand, N-body simulations are more realistic but demand higher computational cost. Our goal is to characterize the regimes in which analytic potentials provide a sufficient approximation and those where N-bodies are necessary. We perform two sets of simulations, using both Gala and Gadget, in order to closely compare the orbital evolution of satellites around a Milky Way-like galaxy. Focusing on the periods when the satellite has not yet been severely disrupted by tidal forces, we find that the orbits of satellites up to 108M can be reliably computed with analytic potentials to within 5% error if they are circular or moderately eccentric. If the satellite is as massive as 109M then errors of 9% are to be expected. However, if the orbital radius is smaller than 30 kpc then the results may not be relied upon with the same accuracy beyond 1–2 Gyr. Full article
