This study aims to investigate how tourists articulate their ecotourism experiences through online reviews of coastal Karnataka. As one of India’s most favored domestic destinations since the 1960s, coastal Karnataka is renowned for its scenic shoreline, unique biodiversity, and diverse ecotourism experiences along a 320 km stretch of the Arabian-Sea rim spanning across the Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts. Despite the growing popularity of ecotourism and sustainable travel, limited research has examined how tourists share ecotourism concepts via online reviews. Employing content analysis through the Leximancer tool, this study examines 1843 online reviews from 80 eco-resorts and homestays listed on TripAdvisor® to identify emerging themes from interconnected concepts and assess the extent to which ecotourism values are reflected. The findings highlight several themes out of which “place”, “food”, “resort”, and “rooms” were the dominant ones. Notably, this study also revealed minimal references to coastal conservation or sustainability. The analysis offers several theoretical contributions to the ecotourism literature by demonstrating the implication of construal level theory (CLT) and the use of Leximancer in analyzing large-scale travel data. This study also provides meaningful insights for the tourism service providers to use online review data to enrich tourist experiences and outlines actionable strategies for strengthening the visibility of coastal conservation efforts and promote ecotourism advocacy. Background: The present study investigated the relation between dental inclination, colorimetric variation, and aesthetic perception according to the modification of incisor inclination. Smile aesthetics, shaped by morphological factors and patient perception, are vital for social attractiveness and treatment success. This study aimed to assess the effect of varying head tilt on the perceived colour of upper central incisors by simulating changes in torque of the tooth, as well as evaluate factors influencing the perception of an aesthetic smile, including morphological characteristics and gingival aesthetic parameters. Methods: The study was comprised of three stages: colour analysis, evaluation of micro- and mini-aesthetic smile features, and an image-based assessment to determine evaluator perceptions and overall smile attractiveness. A sample of 50 students with complete, lesion-free anterior dentition was analysed. To simulate the effect of orthodontic torque changes during colour analysis, subjects tilted their heads downward and upward, representing palatal and buccal crown torque, respectively. Standardized macro-intraoral photographs were captured under controlled lighting conditions using a DSLR camera stabilized on a tripod in the different positions: the neutral head position (p0), 15° upward (p + 15), and 15° downward (p − 15). Digital colour analysis was conducted in the CIELAB colour space (L*, a*, b*). In the next stage, focusing on micro- and mini-aesthetic evaluation, an additional 50 smiles were generated using artificial intelligence via the SmileCloud program—one digitally enhanced smile per subject—complementing the initial set of 50 spontaneous smiles. These 100 smile images were evaluated by 50 laypersons and 50 dentists using a visual analogue scale via an online questionnaire, in order to assess perceptions, determine smile attractiveness, and quantify gingival aesthetic parameters. Results: The statistically significant regression results are as follows: those for the L* values in all three head inclinations: downward (−15 degrees), upward (+15 degrees), and total tilting (−15 to +15 degrees), as well as for the a* values for downward tilting and the b* values for total tilting. When the head is tilted downwards, the central incisors are positioned retrusively, and the L* b* values reveal a darker and more yellowish appearance, whereas, with the head tilted upwards, the central incisors protrude, and L* a* values indicate a brighter and more greenish appear. In the evaluation stage of the smile aesthetics study, no significant differences were observed in the judgments between laypersons and dentists or between males and females. Smiles with a high or average anterior line, parallel arc, upward lip curvature, visible first/second premolars, a smile index of 5.08–5.87, and symmetry score of 1.04 were rated as more attractive. Significant asymmetries were observed between upper dental hemi-quadrants in gingival contour and interdental papilla height, highlighting subtle morphological variations relevant to smile aesthetics. Conclusions: Aesthetic assessment revealed that the findings suggest a measurable impact of head position on dental colour perception and aesthetic evaluation. Evaluator variables including profession and gender exerted negligible effects on aesthetic perception, whereas smile attractiveness features and gingival aesthetic parameters demonstrate significant clinical applicability in patient management. The nitrogen electroreduction reaction (NRR) has emerged as a promising and sustainable alternative to the Haber–Bosch process for NH3 production. This study investigated the NRR in alkaline medium using Pd/C, Rh/C, and PdRh/C electrocatalysts, employing online electrochemical mass spectrometry (OLEMS) for gaseous-product detection and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy to confirm NH3 formation. To our knowledge, no previous reports have simultaneously detected H2, N2H, and N2H2 intermediates and monitored N2 consumption as a function of applied potential for Pd and Rh catalysts. The bimetallic PdRh/C catalyst showed superior NRR performance compared with the monometallic catalysts, exhibiting higher faradaic charges, more pronounced generation of nitrogen intermediates, and selectivity for NH3. This work provides key insights into the NRR mechanisms and underlines the strategic importance of the bimetallic catalyst design for more efficient, sustainable electrochemical NH3 synthesis. With growing public concern over environmental issues, organizations are facing increasing pressure to demonstrate a genuine and measurable commitment to environmental sustainability. In this context, understanding how corporate environmental responsibility (CER) shapes employee engagement (EE) is essential. This understanding helps align organizational behavior with both internal goals and broader societal expectations. Although the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on EE has been widely studied, the specific role of CER—a key subdimension of CSR—remains underexplored. To address this gap, we developed a moderated mediation model grounded in social exchange theory, social identity theory, and signaling theory. This model aims to reveal how CER influences EE and through which mechanisms. Based on survey data from 418 employees in large Chinese manufacturing firms, our results show that perceived CER significantly enhances EE. This effect occurs primarily through the strengthening of organizational pride. Furthermore, online media coverage reinforces the relationship between perceived CER and organizational pride. It also amplifies the indirect impact of perceived CER on EE via this pride. These findings contribute to the corporate sustainability literature by showing how credible and visible environmental actions can enhance employee alignment and engagement. Practical implications are discussed for organizations seeking to connect managerial priorities with society’s call for transparent and authentic environmental initiatives. Full article

Social media platforms facilitate the dissemination of science and access to it. However, gender inequalities in the participation and visibility of communicators persist. This study examined the differences in reach and audience response between YouTube and TikTok from a gender perspective. To do so, the ten most influential science accounts on YouTube and TikTok were selected, with the sample divided equally between men and women, to conduct a comparative study. A total of 4293 videos on TikTok and 4825 on YouTube were analyzed, along with 277,528 comments, considering metrics of views and interaction. The results show that on YouTube, men received more likes and views, while on TikTok, audience response was more balanced. The participation of women on both platforms also had a differential impact, as the number of women engaging with content on YouTube negatively correlated with interaction levels, whereas on TikTok, their impact was slightly positive. In conclusion, TikTok emerges as a more inclusive space for scientific communication, though structural challenges remain on both platforms, encouraging further research into strategies that promote gender equity in online science communication. Geoethics emphasizes responsible human interaction with the Earth, promoting ethical practices in the geosciences to ensure sustainability for current and future generations. UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGps) are designated areas that support sustainable development by integrating geoconservation, geoeducation, and community engagement, thereby raising awareness of geological heritage. This quantitative study employed an online questionnaire (n = 798) to assess geoethical awareness among residents of all nine Hellenic UGGps, with the aim of profiling environmental engagement and perceptions. The results indicate a generally high level of geoethical awareness, with Sitia UGGp exhibiting the highest average mean score (M = 8.98, SD = 1.34), reflecting strong community support and effective outreach efforts. In contrast, Lavreotiki UGGp (M = 8.48, SD = 1.15) and Psiloritis UGGp (M = 8.33, SD = 1.36) scored lower in areas such as community engagement and geotourism, suggesting opportunities for targeted improvement. Regional differences suggest that management, visibility, and local context significantly influence public perceptions. Cluster analysis identified four respondent profiles: (a) highly engaged environmental stewards (28.7%), (b) supportive but selective advocates (40.5%), (c) moderately indifferent participants (26.9%), and (d) disengaged or critical respondents (3.9%). Demographic factors such as age, residence, prior visits to Hellenic UGGps, and education significantly differentiated these groups. Mapping geoethical awareness provides a valuable tool for assessing societal benefits and enhancing the governance of UGGps. Overall, the findings underscore the need to shift from an anthropocentric to a more geocentric worldview that prioritizes the well-being of both humanity and Earth’s systems. Full article

This article investigates how digital competences contribute to the production of social capital and professional recognition through a systematic review of international literature. Drawing on 62 peer-reviewed articles indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, and ERIC, the review identifies the most frequently mobilized theoretical frameworks, the predominant types and sources of recognition, and the associated dimensions of social capital. The findings reveal a growing emphasis on communicative and network-based digital competences—particularly digital communication, information management, and virtual collaboration—as key assets in professional contexts. Recognition is shown to take predominantly non-material, extrinsic, and visibility-oriented forms, with social media platforms emerging as central sites for the performance and circulation of digital competences. The results indicate that social media proficiency has become a central determinant of social recognition, favoring individuals who possess not only digital fluency but also the ability to strategically develop and mobilize their networks. This dynamic reframes signal theory in light of today’s platformed ecosystems: recognition no longer depends increasingly on one’s capacity to render competences legible, visible, and endorsed within algorithmically mediated environments. Those who master the codes of visibility and reputation-building online are best positioned to convert recognition into social capital and professional opportunity. Full article

This study investigates how pandemic-induced emotional disruption has reshaped sustainable consumer behavior in the digital age, with a focus on the continued influence of safety measures in the restaurant industry. As societies transition beyond COVID-19 restrictions, health-related anxieties persist, driving consumers to prioritize hygiene and risk reduction in their decision-making. Drawing on large-scale data from TripAdvisor and OpenTable, we analyze the effects of digitally communicated safety protocols on restaurant booking behavior across major U.S. cities. Our findings reveal that safety communication remains a salient factor in consumer choice, even after the acute phase of the pandemic. This effect is particularly pronounced in lower-tier restaurants, where visible digital safety signals help build trust and compensate for weaker brand equity. Conversely, in upscale establishments, where baseline hygiene standards are presumed, the marginal benefit of safety signaling is reduced. The study also identifies enduring patterns of emotional expression and anxiety in online reviews, indicating the long-term psychological imprint of the pandemic on consumer sentiment. By situating safety communication as both a psychological reassurance mechanism and a strategic digital marketing tool, this research contributes to the emerging discourse on sustainable marketing in post-crisis contexts. The results offer theoretical and managerial insights into how businesses can integrate health assurance into long-term brand strategies, reinforcing trust and resilience in digitally mediated, post-pandemic consumption environments. This study investigates how human will is articulated, negotiated, and reimagined within the discourses about Shamanism of Northeast China, with a particular focus on user-generated content from the Douyin platform (Chinese TikTok). Drawing on the data collected from comments between 2020 and 2024, this research employs a triangulated methodology integrating Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling, the Discourse–Historical Approach (DHA), and virtual ethnography. In traditional Shamanic belief systems, human will is conceptualized not as purely autonomous, but as inherently relational—interwoven with ecological responsibilities, ancestral spirits, and cosmological forces. While previous studies have explored Shamanism’s cultural and performative dimensions, they have largely overlooked the ethical and philosophical constructs of human agency embedded within Shamanic practices, especially in their digital adaptations. This study reveals that contemporary digital discourse simultaneously preserves, transforms, and commodifies Shamanic concepts of human will. Users express reverence, nostalgia, critique, and playful reinterpretations, demonstrating that digital platforms serve both as spaces for cultural continuity and dynamic meaning-making. By analyzing online discursive practices, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how indigenous spiritual frameworks negotiate modern visibility, identity, and ethical agency in the digital era. Scholars traditionally hold influential positions due to their cultural capital, derived from academic degrees, scholarly publications, and professional credentials. However, the rise of digital platforms has disrupted this hierarchy, placing scholars into new roles as online public intellectuals who engage in political advocacy and mobilize knowledge through public discourse. This transformation calls attention to how public intellectuals’ visibility and influence have become entangled with platform logics, leading to a reconsideration of “digital cultural capital”. Drawing theoretical insights from critical platform studies, celebrity studies, and marketing research, this article conceptually addresses three questions: (1) how traditional cultural capital transforms digitally; (2) how public intellectuals accumulate digital cultural capital; and (3) what are the risks of knowledge mobilization on platforms? This article proposes that traditional academic credentials are no longer sufficient to maintain public intellectuals’ influence, whereas visibility metrics—such as views, likes, shares, and follower counts—emerge as a digital form of “cultural capital from below”. Public intellectuals, thus, must engage in “code-switching” to navigate platform-mediated knowledge mobilization. Nevertheless, the populist tendencies embedded in cultural capital from below and the platform algorithms that enable it risk marginalizing less visible knowledge forms. Eventually, this article calls for future empirical research on how digital cultural capital and code-switching operate across geopolitical contexts, particularly within marginalized communities shaped by distinct platform logics and populist dynamics. Moldy core is a common disease of apples, and non-destructive, rapid and accurate detection of moldy core apples is essential to ensure food safety and reduce post-harvest economic losses. In this study, the acoustic method was used for the first time for the online detection of moldy core apples, and we explore the feasibility of integrating acoustic and visible–near-infrared spectroscopy (Vis–NIRS) technologies for precise, real-time detection of moldy core in apples. The sound and Vis–NIRS signals of apples were collected using a novel acoustic online detection device and a traditional Vis–NIRS online sorter, respectively. Based on this, traditional machine learning and deep learning classification models were developed for the prediction of healthy, mild, moderate, and severe moldy apples. The results show that the acoustic detection method significantly outperforms the Vis–NIRS method in terms of moldy apple identification accuracy, and the fusion of acoustic and Vis–NIRS data can further improve the model prediction performance. The MLP-Transformer shows the best prediction performance, with the overall classification accuracies for the fusion of Vis–NIRS, acoustic, Vis–NIRS and acoustic reached 89.66%, 96.55%, and 98.62%, respectively. This study demonstrates the excellent performance of acoustic online detection for intra-fruit lesion identification and shows the potential of the fusion of acoustics and Vis–NIRS. Full article

This research investigates the application of search engine optimization (SEO) in developing the digital image of rural tourism businesses in the Terras de Trás-os-Montes region of Portugal. With digital marketing becoming increasingly important for businesses to stay competitive, SEO has become a vital tool for developing online recognition, qualified traffic acquisition, and enhancement of conversion rates. The research performs an SEO analysis of 21 rural tourism websites by applying the Ubersuggest tool, analyzing such key indicators as on-page SEO scores, organic traffic, keyword ranking, backlinks, and technical performance. The results identify wide SEO performance discrepancies, with some sites registering excellent practices and others with critical errors that impair the sites’ online recognizability. In particular, low word count, absent meta description, and loading speed issues are very much present. The research emphasizes the need for effective SEO methods, such as on-page maintenance, content creation, and link building, to advance search engine ranking and end-user experience. Moreover, the study emphasizes the necessity for rural tourism businesses to evolve and adapt to current SEO trends, i.e., voice search optimization and local SEO, in the changing digital business environment. The results provide recommendations for rural tourism businesses to develop their digital marketing activities and make progress online. Full article

Digital Strategies for Promoting PDO and PGI Agricultural Products in Southern Europe: Evaluating Online Presence and Sustainability Communication

This research aims to assess the current landscape of digital communication practices among PDO and PGI agricultural products in Southern European countries—Italy, Spain, France, Greece, and Portugal—which together account for 75% of Europe’s GI-registered agri-food products. By analyzing the GI View portal and conducting desk research to assess the presence of producer groups and the promotion of their products across digital platforms, this study offers insights into how these products are marketed online. It combines an overview of digital presence across multiple platforms with a content analysis of Facebook posts. The findings reveal that, although digital tools—especially websites and social media—are increasingly used by GI producer groups, their potential remains underexploited. Most groups maintain some digital presence, yet the strategies are inconsistent and e-commerce remains underused. Despite being inherently linked to environmental and social sustainability, these attributes are rarely communicated—particularly on Facebook. This social media channel is the most used platform among GI producer groups; however, its use is poorly optimized with an irregular posting frequency. This study recommends investments in capacity building, integrated branding approaches, and the strategic inclusion of the inherent value of GI products in digital narratives to enhance their visibility, differentiation, and sustainability communication. Influencer marketing has emerged as a crucial element in digital marketing, significantly shaping consumer behavior and online shopping preferences. This study examined the multidimensional impact of influencer marketing by analyzing engagement metrics, marketing effectiveness, and consumer decision-making processes, based on consumers in the Greek sector. Through a structured methodological framework, the research employed a questionnaire-based survey, statistical modeling, and Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM) scenarios to assess consumer interactions with influencer-driven content. Findings highlight that while influencer marketing enhances brand engagement and sales, its effectiveness varies based on content authenticity, transparency, and user trust. Additionally, consumer purchasing decisions are influenced by social media visibility, personalized marketing strategies, and digital platform usability. This study underscores the need for strategic influencer selection and information-driven marketing optimization to sustain long-term consumer engagement. These insights provide practical implications for businesses aiming to enhance digital marketing strategies and contribute to the ongoing discourse on social commerce and consumer-centric marketing models. The Rapid Detection of Foreign Fibers in Seed Cotton Based on Hyperspectral Band Selection and a Lightweight Neural Network

Contamination with foreign fibers—such as mulch films and polypropylene strands—during cotton harvesting and processing severely compromises fiber quality. The traditional detection methods often fail to identify fine impurities under visible light, while full-spectrum hyperspectral imaging (HSI) techniques—despite their effectiveness—tend to be prohibitively expensive and computationally intensive. Specifically, the vast amount of redundant spectral information in full-spectrum HSI escalates both the system’s costs and processing challenges. To address these challenges, this study presents an intelligent detection framework that integrates optimized spectral band selection with a lightweight neural network. A novel hybrid Harris Hawks–Whale Optimization Operator (HWOO) is employed to isolate 12 discriminative bands from the original 288 channels, effectively eliminating redundant spectral data. Additionally, a lightweight attention mechanism, combined with a depthwise convolution module, enables real-time inference for online production. The proposed attention-enhanced CNN architecture achieves a 99.75% classification accuracy with real-time processing at 12.201 μs per pixel, surpassing the full-spectrum models by 11.57% in its accuracy while drastically reducing the processing time from 370.1 μs per pixel. This approach not only enables the high-speed removal of impurities in harvested seed cotton production lines but also offers a cost-effective pathway to practical multispectral solutions. Moreover, this methodology demonstrates broad applicability for quality control in agricultural product processing. Full article
