This study introduces an enhanced Intrusion Detection System (IDS) framework for Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, utilizing network traffic inter-arrival time (IAT) analysis. By examining the timing between packets and other statistical features, we detected patterns of malicious activity, allowing early and effective DoS threat mitigation. We generate real DoS traffic, including normal, Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), Smurf attack, and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) classes, and develop nine predictive algorithms, combining traditional machine learning and advanced deep learning techniques with optimization methods, including the synthetic minority sampling technique (SMOTE) and grid search (GS). Our findings reveal that while traditional machine learning achieved moderate accuracy, it struggled with imbalanced datasets. In contrast, Deep Neural Network (DNN) models showed significant improvements with optimization, with DNN combined with GS (DNN-GS) reaching 89% accuracy. However, we also used Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) combined with SMOTE and GS (RNN-SMOTE-GS), which emerged as the best-performing with a precision of 97%, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining SMOTE and GS and highlighting the critical role of advanced optimization techniques in enhancing the detection capabilities of IDS models for the accurate classification of various types of network traffic and attacks. Cyber-physical systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) have been applied in industrial automation and infrastructure management for decades. They are hybrid tools for administration, monitoring, and continuous control of real physical systems through their computational representation. SCADA systems have evolved along with computing technology, from their beginnings with low-performance computers, monochrome monitors and communication networks with a range of a few hundred meters, to high-performance systems with advanced 3D graphics and wired and wireless computer networks. This article presents a methodology for the design of a SCADA system with a 3D Visualization for Drinking Water Supply, and its implementation in the Lerma Basin System of Mexico City as a case study. The monitoring of water consumption from the wells is presented, as well as the pressure levels throughout the system. The 3D visualization is generated from the GIS information and the communication is carried out using a hybrid radio frequency transmission system, satellite, and telephone network. The pumps that extract water from each well are teleoperated and monitored in real time. The developed system can be scaled to generate a simulator of water behavior of the Lerma Basin System and perform contingency planning. Full article

Utilizing deep learning models to detect malicious anomalies within the traffic of application layer J1939 protocol networks, found on heavy-duty commercial vehicles, is becoming a critical area of research in platform protection. At the physical layer, the controller area network (CAN) bus is the backbone network for most vehicles. The CAN bus is highly efficient and dependable, which makes it a suitable networking solution for automobiles where reaction time and speed are of the essence due to safety considerations. Much recent research has been conducted on securing the CAN bus explicitly; however, the importance of protecting the J1939 protocol is becoming apparent. Our research utilizes long short-term memory models to predict the next binary data sequence of a J1939 packet. Our primary objective is to compare the performance of our J1939 detection system trained on data sub-fields against a published CAN system trained on the full data payload. We conducted a series of experiments to evaluate both detection systems by utilizing a simulated attack representation to generate anomalies. We show that both detection systems outperform one another on a case-by-case basis and determine that there is a clear requirement for a multifaceted security approach for vehicular networks. This paper proposes a hybrid methodology for one-step-ahead torsional torque estimation in an electric drive with an elastic connection. The approach integrates Nonlinear Autoregressive Neural Networks with Exogenous Inputs (NARX NNs) and model-based feedback. The NARX model uses real-time and historical motor speed and torque signals as inputs while leveraging physics-derived torsional torque as a feedback input to refine estimation accuracy and robustness. While model-based methods provide insight into system dynamics, they lack predictive capability—an essential feature for proactive control. Conversely, standalone NARX NNs often suffer from error accumulation and overfitting. The proposed hybrid architecture synergises the adaptive learning of NARX NNs with the fidelity of physics-based feedback, enabling proactive vibration damping. The method was implemented and evaluated on a two-mass drive system using an IP controller and additional torsional torque feedback. Results demonstrate high accuracy and reliability in one-step-ahead torsional torque estimation, enabling effective proactive vibration damping. MATLAB 2024a/Simulink and dSPACE 1103 were used for simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Full article

This study evaluates the performance of nine satellite and model-based daily surface soil moisture products, encompassing sixteen algorithm versions across mainland China to support sustainable land and water management. The assessment utilizes 2018 in situ measurements from over 2400 stations in China’s Automatic Soil Moisture Monitoring Network. All products were standardized to a 0.25° × 0.25° grid in the WGS-84 coordinate system through reprojection and resampling for consistent comparison. Daily averaged station observations were matched to product pixels using a 10 km radius buffer, with the mean station value as the reference for each time series after rigorous quality control. Results reveal distinct performance rankings, with SMAP-based products, particularly the SMAP_IB descending orbit variant, achieving the lowest unbiased root mean square deviation (ubRMSD) and highest correlation with in situ data. Blended products like ESA CCI and NOAA SMOPS, alongside reanalysis datasets such as ERA5 and MERRA2, outperformed SMOS and China’s FY3 products. The SoMo.ml product showed the broadest spatial coverage and strong temporal consistency, while FY3-based products showed limitations in spatial reliability and seasonal dynamics capture. These findings provide critical insights for selecting appropriate soil moisture datasets to enhance sustainable agricultural practices, optimize water resource allocation, monitor ecosystem resilience, and support climate adaptation strategies, therefore advancing sustainable development across diverse geographical regions in China. With the increasing penetration of distributed generation and the diversification of electrical equipment, distribution networks face issues like three-phase unbalance and harmonic currents, while the voltage stability and inertia of the grid-connected system also decrease. A certain amount of energy storage is needed in a Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (DSTATCOM) to manage power quality and actively support voltage and inertia in the network. This paper first addresses the limitations of traditional dq0 compensation algorithms in effectively filtering out negative-sequence twice-frequency components. An improved dq0 compensation algorithm is proposed to reduce errors in detecting positive-sequence fundamental current under unbalanced three-phase conditions. Second, considering the impedance ratio characteristics of the distribution network, while reactive power voltage regulation is common, active power regulation is more effective in high-resistance distribution networks. A grid-forming model-based active and reactive power coordinated voltage regulation method is proposed. This method uses synchronous control to establish a virtual three-phase voltage internal electromotive force, forming a comprehensive compensation strategy that combines power quality improvement and active voltage support, exploring the potential of energy storage DSTATCOM applications in distribution networks. Finally, simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method. Full article

Multi-channel LED drivers are crucial for high-power lighting applications. Maintaining a constant average forward current is essential for stable LED luminous intensity, necessitating drivers capable of consistent current delivery across wide operating ranges. Meanwhile, achieving precise current sharing among channels without incurring high costs and system complexity is a significant challenge. Leveraging the constant-current characteristics of the LCL-T network, this paper presents a multi-channel DC/DC LED driver comprising a full-bridge inverter, a transformer, and a passive resonant rectifier. The driver generates a high-frequency AC bus with series-connected diode rectifiers, a structure that guarantees excellent current sharing among all output channels using only a single control loop. Fully considering the impact of higher harmonics, this paper derives an exact solution for the output current. A step-by-step parameter design methodology ensures soft switching and enhanced switch utilization. Finally, experimental verification was conducted using a prototype with five channels and 200 W, confirming the correctness and accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The experimental results showed that within a wide input voltage range of 380 V to 420 V, the driver was able to provide a stable current of 700 mA to each channel, and the system could achieve a peak efficiency of up to 94.4%. Dryopteris fragrans (L.) Schott synthesizes volatile sesquiterpenes through the mevalonate pathway (MVA), in which 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR) serves as the key rate-limiting enzyme. Although HMGR plays a crucial role in terpenoid biosynthesis, its functional characteristics in D. fragrans and its involvement in stress responses remain unclear. This study identified three HMGR genes (DfHMGR1/2/3) from the transcriptome data of D. fragrans. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that the encoded proteins are localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and share high sequence similarity with fern homologs. Under abiotic stress conditions, DfHMGRs exhibited differential expression patterns, with marked upregulation under salt and drought stress. To validate the functions of these genes, we generated transgenic Nicotiana tabacum L. plants overexpressing DfHMGRs. Compared with wild-type controls, the transgenic lines showed enhanced tolerance to drought and heat stress. Promoter analysis identified functional regulatory regions controlling DfHMGR expression, and co-expression network analysis predicted 21 potential transcriptional regulators. This study validates the function of D. fragrans HMGRs in a heterologous system and provides candidate genes for improving stress resistance in plants. Full article

Modern industrial ecosystems, particularly those embracing Industry 4.0, increasingly depend on coherent optical networks operating at 400 Gbps and beyond. These high-capacity infrastructures, coupled with advanced digital signal processing and phase-sensitive detection, enable real-time data exchange for automated manufacturing, robotics, and interconnected factory systems. However, they introduce multilayer security challenges—ranging from hardware synchronization gaps to protocol overhead manipulation. Moreover, the rise of large-scale quantum computing intensifies these threats by potentially breaking classical key exchange protocols and enabling the future decryption of stored ciphertext. In this paper, we present a systematic vulnerability analysis of coherent optical networks that use OTU4 framing, Media Access Control Security (MACsec), and 400G ZR+ transceivers. Guided by established risk assessment methodologies, we uncover critical weaknesses affecting management plane interfaces (e.g., MDIO and I2C) and overhead fields (e.g., Trail Trace Identifier, Bit Interleaved Parity). To mitigate these risks while preserving the robust data throughput and low-latency demands of industrial automation, we propose a post-quantum security framework that merges spectral phase masking with multi-homodyne coherent detection, strengthened by quantum key distribution for key management. This layered approach maintains backward compatibility with existing infrastructure and ensures forward secrecy against quantum-enabled adversaries. The evaluation results show a substantial reduction in exposure to timing-based exploits, overhead field abuses, and cryptographic compromise. By integrating quantum-safe measures at the optical layer, our solution provides a future-proof roadmap for network operators, hardware vendors, and Industry 4.0 stakeholders tasked with safeguarding next-generation manufacturing and engineering processes. The growing global demand for energy has resulted in a demand for innovative strategies for residential energy management. This study explores a novel framework—MELISSA (Modern Energy LLM-IoE Smart Solution for Automation)—that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networks with Large Language Models (LLMs) to optimize household energy consumption through intelligent automation and personalized interactions. The system combines real-time monitoring, machine learning algorithms for behavioral analysis, and natural language processing to deliver personalized, actionable recommendations through a conversational interface. A 12-month randomized controlled trial was conducted with 100 households, which were stratified across four socioeconomic quintiles in metropolitan areas. The experimental design included the continuous collection of IoT data. Baseline energy consumption was measured and compared with post-intervention usage to assess system impact. Statistical analyses included k-means clustering, multiple linear regression, and paired t-tests. The system achieved its intended goal, with a statistically significant reduction of 5.66% in energy consumption (95% CI: 5.21–6.11%, p<0.001) relative to baseline, alongside high user satisfaction (mean = 7.81, SD = 1.24). Clustering analysis (k=4, silhouette = 0.68) revealed four distinct energy-consumption profiles. Multiple regression analysis (R2=0.68, p<0.001) identified household size, ambient temperature, and frequency of user engagement as the principal determinants of consumption. This research advances the theoretical understanding of human–AI interaction in energy management and provides robust empirical evidence of the effectiveness of LLM-mediated behavioral interventions. The findings underscore the potential of conversational AI applications in smart homes and have practical implications for optimization of residential energy use. Full article

Background: Electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) enable real-time symptom monitoring and early intervention in oncology. Large language models (LLMs), when combined with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), offer scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven education tailored to individual patient needs. However, few studies have examined the feasibility and clinical impact of integrating ePRO with LLM-RAG feedback during radiotherapy in high-toxicity settings such as head and neck cancer. Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled 42 patients with head and neck cancer undergoing radiotherapy from January to December 2024. Patients completed ePRO entries twice weekly using a web-based platform. Following each entry, an LLM-RAG system (Gemini 1.5-based) generated real-time educational feedback using National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines and institutional resources. Primary outcomes included percentage weight loss and treatment interruption days. Statistical analyses included t-tests, linear regression, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. A threshold of ≥6 ePRO entries was used for subgroup analysis. Results: Patients had a mean age of 53.6 years and submitted an average of 8.0 ePRO entries. Frequent ePRO users (≥6 entries) had significantly less weight loss (4.45% vs. 7.57%, p = 0.021) and fewer treatment interruptions (0.67 vs. 2.50 days, p = 0.002). Chemotherapy, moderate-to-severe pain, and lower ePRO submission frequency were associated with greater weight loss. ePRO submission frequency was negatively correlated with both weight loss and treatment interruption days. The most commonly reported symptoms were appetite loss, fatigue, and nausea. Conclusions: Integrating LLM-RAG feedback with ePRO systems is feasible and may enhance symptom control, treatment continuity, and patient engagement in head and neck cancer radiotherapy. Further studies are warranted to validate the clinical benefits of AI-supported ePRO platforms in routine care. Full article

This survey provides a comprehensive review of the integration of large language models (LLMs) into autonomous robotic systems, organized around four key pillars: locomotion, navigation, manipulation, and voice-based interaction. We examine how LLMs enhance robotic autonomy by translating high-level natural language commands into low-level control signals, supporting semantic planning and enabling adaptive execution. Systems like SayTap improve gait stability through LLM-generated contact patterns, while TrustNavGPT achieves a 5.7% word error rate (WER) under noisy voice-guided conditions by modeling user uncertainty. Frameworks such as MapGPT, LLM-Planner, and 3D-LOTUS++ integrate multi-modal data—including vision, speech, and proprioception—for robust planning and real-time recovery. We also highlight the use of physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to model object deformation and support precision in contact-rich manipulation tasks. To bridge the gap between simulation and real-world deployment, we synthesize best practices from benchmark datasets (e.g., RH20T, Open X-Embodiment) and training pipelines designed for one-shot imitation learning and cross-embodiment generalization. Additionally, we analyze deployment trade-offs across cloud, edge, and hybrid architectures, emphasizing latency, scalability, and privacy. The survey concludes with a multi-dimensional taxonomy and cross-domain synthesis, offering design insights and future directions for building intelligent, human-aligned robotic systems powered by LLMs. Full article

Background: Foster care alumni face increased health challenges across the domains of mental and physical health, yet there is a paucity of research examining the associations between care experiences, health, and sleep quality in alumni aged 30 and above. Objectives: Our exploratory mixed-method study examined the sleep quality of North American group care leavers aged 30+ to understand whether sleep quality in adulthood is associated with earlier child welfare system experiences during childhood and adolescence. Secondly, we examined the association between sleep quality and overall concurrent health. Methods: Using a convenience sample of 41 alumni of care aged 30–85 and 16 qualitative interviews, we explored the intricate connections between group care leavers’ developmental trauma, sleep quality, and health. Linear regression and qualitative content analysis were utilized to understand how sleep was related to well-being in aging care alumni. Results: Adult sleep was significantly associated with the perceived quality of their youth out-of-home placement experiences (β = 0.421, p < 0.01), controlling for friendship support networks and demographic variables. Adult sleep quality was a significant predictor of overall health (β = −0.328, p < 0.05). Qualitative interviews elucidated insights into the importance and linkages of child welfare system experiences, adult sleep, and well-being. Conclusions: Our research highlights the enduring association between child welfare placement experiences, and sleep functioning well into adulthood, even when accounting for contemporaneous social support and other demographic indicators. Practitioners should be inquiring directly about sleep, and future longitudinal research should delve deeper into the nature of sleep difficulties and their association with health and well-being. This paper presents a novel wireless control framework for electric drive systems by employing a fuzzy brain emotional learning neural network (FBELNN) controller in conjunction with a Disturbance Observer (DO). The communication scheme uses chaotic system dynamics to ensure data confidentiality and robustness against disturbance in wireless environments. To be applied to embedded microprocessors, the continuous-time chaotic system is discretized using the Grunwald–Letnikov approximation. To avoid the loss of generality of chaotic behavior, Lyapunov exponents are computed to validate the preservation of chaos in the discrete-time domain. The FBELNN controller is then developed to synchronize two non-identical chaotic systems under different initial conditions, enabling secure data encryption and decryption. Additionally, the DOB is introduced to estimate and mitigate the effects of bounded uncertainties and external disturbances, enhancing the system’s resilience to stealthy attacks. The proposed control structure is experimentally implemented on a wireless communication system utilizing ESP32 microcontrollers (Espressif Systems, Shanghai, China) based on the ESP-NOW protocol. Both control and feedback signals of the electric drive system are encrypted using chaotic states, and real-time decryption at the receiver confirms system integrity. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in achieving robust synchronization, accurate signal recovery, and a reliable wireless control system. The combination of FBELNN and DOB demonstrates significant potential for real-time, low-cost, and secure applications in smart electric drive systems and industrial automation. Full article

Ultraviolet (UV) communication, characterized by non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scattering, holds substantial potential for enabling communication networking in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) formations within strong electromagnetic interference environments. This paper proposes a networking protocol for large-scale mobile ultraviolet communication networks (LSM-UVCN). In large-scale networks, the proposed protocol establishes multiple non-interfering transmission paths based on a connection matrix simultaneously, ensuring reliable space division multiplexing (SDM) and optimizing the utilization of network channel resources. To address frequent network topology changes in mobile scenarios, the protocol employs periodic maintenance of the connection matrix, significantly reducing the adverse impacts of node mobility on network performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol achieves superior performance in large-scale mobile UV communication networks. By dynamically adjusting the connection matrix update frequency, it adapts to varying node mobility intensities, effectively minimizing control overhead and data loss rates while enhancing network throughput. This work underscores the protocol’s adaptability to dynamic network environments, providing a robust solution for high-reliability communication requirements in complex electromagnetic scenarios, particularly for UAV swarm applications. The integration of SDM and adaptive matrix maintenance highlights its scalability and efficiency, positioning it as a viable technology for next-generation wireless communication systems in challenging operational conditions.
