Perception of Stakeholder Groups on Ailanthus altissima in Hungary

In order to tackle the problems caused by invasive alien plant species, it is important to know what the main groups that have the largest influence on the spreading of the species, know and think about them. Nation-wide questionnaire surveys were carried out in Hungary between 2016 and 2019 among three important stakeholder groups (local governments, national park directorates (NPDs), and state forestry units (SFUs)) of tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima). The aim of the surveys was to reveal the perception of the three groups about Ailanthus altissima, their experiences with eradication, and other needs for its successful management of the species. Besides basic statistical methods, the chi2 test, Fisher’s exact test, Cramer’s V value, and Mann–Whitney U test were conducted to compare groups and reveal relationships between different variables. 221 local governments, 10 NPDs, and 110 SFUs filled in the questionnaire. The response rate was quite low for local governments (8,8%) and high for NPDs (100%) and SFUs (97.5%). Our findings show that the species was recognised by only 59% of respondents representing local governments. Further results are presented regardingthis subsample.The negative impacts of Ailanthus altissima were perceived in all three groups at a higher rate (over 95% in all three groups) than positive impacts (local governments: 63%, NPDs: 10%, SFUs: 35%). The two groups managing forest areas (NPDs and SFUs) ranked the problems caused by the species high (the median was −4 for both groups on a −5–+5 scale). Ailanthus altissima was present in the areas of at least 80 percent in each examined group. In areas where the species was present, eradication was applied in a significantly higher percent of NPDs (86%) and SFUs (88%) than regarding local governments (36%), and the same tendency was found for using mechanical and chemical methods (p < 0.05). The two groups managing forest areas also applied biological methods, although at a lower rate (NPDs: 10%, SFUs: 14%). The unit costs and area of eradication varied between NPDs and SFUs, but the difference was not significant between the two groups (p = 0.073 and 0.213, respectively). NPDs used more external funding for eradication than local governments and state forestry units, mostly co-financed by European Union funds (e.g., LIFE and European Regional Development Fund). Information was required by a large percentage of respondents from local governments (75% of those who recognised the species). The need for cooperation between stakeholder groups was indicated by 78% of local governments recognising the species, and was ranked high by the two expert groups as well (medians were 4 for NPDs and 5 for SFUs on a 0–5 scale). Sharing knowledge about and experience with eradication among the two expert groups and transferring knowledge to the local governments are recommended for the successful management of the species. Further research is needed regarding the effectiveness, the environmental impacts, and the costs of eradication, as well as influencing factors. Full article

Background: Adolescent depressive and anxiety symptoms may erode motivation and problem-solving needed for timely contraception, while online information quality is uneven. We synthesized evidence linking mental health, contraceptive knowledge/access, and teen pregnancy risk. Methods: Following PRISMA-2020, we searched PubMed, Embase, and Scopus to 7 July 2025 for primary studies including adolescents that measured validated mental health symptoms or psychiatric settings and reported contraceptive knowledge/access/behavior and/or teen pregnancy outcomes. Two reviewers screened/extracted data; risk of bias was appraised with the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale and ROBINS-I. Given heterogeneity, we conducted narrative synthesis. Results: Six U.S.-based studies met the criteria, spanning community colleges, a national cohort, school surveillance, psychiatric inpatient care, and pediatric emergency departments (samples: n = 143 to weighted N = 29,755). Depressive symptoms were associated with contraception access (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.58, 95% CI 1.27–1.96) and anxiety/stress with similar risk (aOR 1.46, 1.17–1.82). A first depressive episode in the same year as sexual debut increased teenage pregnancy hazard (adjusted hazard ratio 2.70, 1.15–6.34). School surveillance showed mental health indicators correlated with contraception non-use at last sex (odds ratios 1.78–2.71). Among psychiatric inpatients, not knowing where to obtain contraception and access difficulties strongly predicted interest in information (aOR 2.96–3.33) and initiation (aOR 2.85–4.72). In a pediatric emergency department trial, same-day initiation occurred in 26.8% versus 3.1% under usual care. Conclusions: Evidence directly linking adolescent mental health symptoms to teen pregnancy is limited (one study), whereas multiple studies show associations with contraception knowledge/access and delayed or non-use, suggesting plausible indirect pathways to pregnancy risk. These findings support hypothesis-generating, integrated approaches and highlight the need for studies with teen pregnancy endpoints. Full article

Background: Persistency of patent ductus arteriosus is the main cardiac condition in the preterm population born before 32 completed weeks of gestation with possible short- and long-term hemodynamic disturbances leading to vast morbidity. Jaundice is present in the majority of very preterms needing phototherapy, that also may have an influence on immature hemodynamics. The objectives of this review and meta-analysis were to find relevant evidence of whether chest shielding during phototherapy does or does not have an impact on the ductus arteriosus patency and hemodynamics. Methods: we reviewed the literature and performed a meta-analysis of five randomized controlled trials regarding chest shielding effect on the ductus arteriosus closure. Results: A total of 452 infants, with a mean gestational age of 28.04 weeks and mean birth weight of 1004.8 g were included in our meta-analysis, where we found an RR of 0.6 for developing PDA during phototherapy and chest shielding (95% CI: 0.37; 0.96. prediction interval: 0.18; 1.99) while development of hemodynamically significant PDA had RR = 0.57, within 95% CI: 0.3; 1.06, and a predictive interval between: 0.11; 2.93. Conclusions: Although the estimated RR may suggest a possible moderate protective role of the chest shield regarding development of PDA during phototherapy, the wideness of the predictive intervals, that include no effect, as well as the small number of eligible trials with heterogeneity between them, make the available data insufficient to evaluate the effectiveness of chest shielding during phototherapy. For more conclusive evidence there is a need for well-designed, blinded, multicenter randomized controlled trials with standardized assessment addressing to a more compact target population, knowing the large physiological differences among preterm infants of different gestational ages. Background/Objectives: Orthopaedic surgery is often recommended for children with cerebral palsy (CP) across all Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels. Despite this, little is known about the experience of parents during their child’s surgery and recovery. Methods: This topic was explored using a mixed-methods research design. Using an interpretive description methodology, in-depth interviews with parents of children with CP who had undergone orthopaedic surgery were completed by a physical therapist within an interdisciplinary clinical context in an acute care orthopaedic surgery clinic. Transcripts were reviewed by inductive thematic analysis. Resulting themes were used to inform the development of a self-administered survey, which was distributed to a separate cluster sample of parents. Results: From interviews with six parents, four themes were identified: (1) preparing and being prepared, (2) feeling known and recognized, (3) knowing and advocating for your child, and (4) feeling stressed and coping. The results of surveys completed by 25 parents were analyzed using descriptive statistics. When asked whether their child’s surgery was a stressful experience, 80% (20/25) agreed. However, 60% (15/25) indicated that the surgery was not a negative experience. Forty-four percent (11/25) felt their child’s recovery was longer than expected. Survey responses to questions related to the qualitative themes were similar across GMFCS levels and surgical procedures. Conclusions: The findings identify the importance of recognizing the needs of parents and suggest opportunities for collaboration between the healthcare team and families in caring for children across the spectrum of functional mobility and orthopaedic procedures. Background: Sexual and reproductive health promotion is a political and social process that involves not only individual actions but also strategies to change social, environmental and economic factors. It is necessary to know the characteristics of effective interventions in order to design new evidence-based programmes. However, programmes need to follow a holistic approach, hence the importance of Comprehensive Sexuality Education. Methods: An extensive bibliographic search was carried out. Twenty systematic reviews between 2015 and 2025 were selected following PRISMA 2020. Results: This review shows that interventions to promote SRH are effective and have significant results in increasing SRH knowledge, attitudes and skills, the competencies of professionals and improving access to SRH services. It has been possible to extract that it is necessary to promote SRH with the inclusion of young people, the adaptation of interventions according to the needs of each person, the coordination between different areas, the application of the intersectional and gender perspective, the application of a rights-based approach, the use of comprehensive and inclusive education models, the training of professionals and the carrying out of evaluations to disseminate the results. Furthermore, there are shortcomings in the evidence, such as the lack of an intersectional perspective, the lack of inclusion of certain groups and the lack of rigorous evaluations following quality standards. Conclusion: Programmes based on Comprehensive Sexuality Education are effective and have certain common characteristics. Full article

Principals experience high levels of anxiety, frustration, and stress, often struggling with their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Balancing work–life responsibilities is critical, yet we know little about how school principals understand and navigate work–life balance (WLB). Building on boundary and spillover theories, we employed an interpretive qualitative research design and interviewed 10 school principals in Missouri to better understand their experiences with WLB and its impact on their well-being. Our findings revealed that while principals themselves understand the importance of WLB, they shared that achieving it is challenging for individuals on their own. Instead, there is a need for a community of understanding and systematic support to help them achieve a better balance. Full article

The classification of mucopolysaccharidoses (MPSs) includes the classical types (I; II; III with subtypes A, B, C, and D; IV with subtypes A and B; VI; VII; IX; X), associated with impaired lysosomal degradation of mucopolysaccharides, also known as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), as a result of deficiency in the specific enzymes responsible for GAG degradation (MPS IIIE has so far been identified only in animal models) and MPS-plus syndrome (MPSPS), which is characterized by an accumulation of undegraded GAGs, arising from impaired endosomal trafficking and inefficient delivery of these compounds to lysosomes (due to the VPS33A protein deficiency with normal GAG-degrading enzyme activities assessed in vitro). The aim of this comprehensive review is to provide physicians with a clinical, biochemical, and molecular overview of MPS manifestation. A brief summary of available and emerging therapies is also presented. Full article

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening syndrome caused by a dysregulated host response to infection leading to organ dysfunction. Distinguishing sepsis from localized infection is crucial, as it guides clinical decision-making and biomarker interpretation. Biomarkers may support diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic choices, but their integration into practice remains debated. Methods: This narrative review was conducted in accordance with the SANRA (Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles) guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane CENTRAL (January 2000–September 2025). Studies evaluating sepsis-related biomarkers for diagnosis, prognostication, shock assessment, antimicrobial stewardship, and post-acute follow-up were considered. Findings: Established biomarkers such as procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and lactate remain widely used for diagnosis, monitoring of inflammatory response, and assessment of severity. Emerging candidates include pancreatic stone protein (PSP), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and monocyte HLA-DR (mHLA-DR), which may provide insights into infection dynamics, renal injury, and immune suppression, respectively. However, limitations in standardization and heterogeneous evidence hinder routine implementation. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), despite extensive study, shows limited specificity and inconsistent clinical applicability. Renin has been proposed as a marker of shock severity rather than infection. Comparative evidence highlights the need for stage-specific biomarker use across prehospital, emergency, ICU, and recovery phases. Conclusions: No single biomarker is universally applicable in sepsis. Their utility depends on timing, clinical setting, and patient phenotype. Combining classical and emerging biomarkers with point-of-care technologies and dynamic monitoring may enhance personalized management. Limitations include heterogeneity of evidence and lack of standardized thresholds. Future research should validate biomarker panels, integrate them into stewardship strategies, and explore their cost-effectiveness in clinical practice. Full article

As machine learning and artificial intelligence are being integrated into cyber-physical systems, it is becoming important for engineers to know and understand these topics. In particular, sensor data is on the rise in these systems and therefore engineers need to understand which models are appropriate to time-series sensor data and how signal processing can be used with them. The Center for Cyber-Physical Systems (CCPS) at the University of Georgia (UGA) is addressing these issues. Student researchers in the CCPS require skills in these areas. This paper demonstrates a machine learning framework for time-series sensor data that can be used to quickly build, train, and test multiple models on CCPS testbed data. The framework is also a tool that can be used as a tutorial to help student researchers understand the concepts required to be successful in the CCPS. Full article

An accelerometer mounting technique has large implications on the frequency range and accuracy of the measurement, with stiffness and the mass relative to the monitored structure as the primary concerns. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) gives an extensive list in 5348:2021, detailing mounting methods, and provides recommendations for testing mounts that are not specifically defined. In the nuclear industry on the laboratory scale, there is a need for vibration measurements for predictive maintenance and process monitoring that are nondestructive and capable of working in high-temperature environments. Commercial adhesive products with easy application and removal were tested as nondestructive methods, while quick mounts to a commonly used aluminum frame were tested as nondestructive and have potential applicability in high-temperature environments. The sinusoidal excitation method was used, measuring frequencies from 50 Hz to 10 kHz in one-third octave band intervals, utilizing three accelerometers and comparing the results to those obtained with the stud-mounting method. Using the lowest ±3 dB threshold across each accelerometer, foam dots and poster strips were not successful, and foam tapes were accurate up to 2000 Hz, hose clamps and zip ties up to 800 Hz, and a custom 3D printed mount up to 1000 Hz. Knowing the limitations of each mounting technique allows for accurate measurements within the appropriate range. Full article

Gastronomic tourism is a strategic tool for territorial development, as it promotes cultural heritage, supports local economies and encourages environmentally responsible consumption. This study attempts to analyse the evolution of key gastronomic products through digital marketing tools, reflecting on the need to know this real data in order to carry out sustainable territorial and tourism planning. To do so, it uses a methodology based on the analysis of data obtained through Google Trends, taking as a reference a set of terms related to seafood, traditional meats and wines with designation of origin. The study examines the seasonal patterns and geographical distribution of interest in these terms, evaluating their impact both inside and outside Galicia as a replicable methodological case. The results show significant differences between categories. In addition, there is a generalised decrease in the search for gastronomic terms, which may indicate a reduction in the relative weight of this element as a factor in the creation of the image of the territories. In conclusion, the article demonstrates the capacity of this methodology to propose more sustainable tourism, territorial and economic planning strategies based on the transformation of qualitative imaginaries into quantitative data and trends. First, it requires technical dexterity: mastery of data engineering, AI-driven analytics, low-code development, cloud orchestration, and cybersecurity safeguards. Second, it draws on accumulated human capital—formal education, sector experience, and tacit managerial know-how that ground vision in operational reality. Third, DEC hinges on an opportunity-seeking mindset characterised by cognitive alertness, creative problem framing, a high need for achievement, and autonomous motivation. Finally, it depends on calculated risk tolerance, encompassing the ability to price and mitigate economic, technical, algorithmic, and competitive uncertainties endemic to platform economies. When these pillars operate synergistically, entrepreneurs translate digital affordances into scalable, resilient business models; when one pillar is weak, capability bottlenecks arise and ventures falter. Because each pillar can be intentionally developed through education, deliberate practice, and ecosystem support, DEC serves as a practical roadmap for stakeholders. It now informs scholarship across entrepreneurship, information systems, innovation management, and public-policy disciplines, and guides interventions ranging from curriculum design and accelerator programming to due-diligence heuristics and national digital literacy initiatives. Nurses’ Attitudes, Environmental Perceptions and Involvement in Research: A Multisite Study

Background: Although evidence-based practice is widely promoted in nursing, direct care nurses remain underrepresented in research activities. This study aimed to assess nurses’ attitudes toward research, their perceptions of the organizational research environment, and their levels of involvement, as well as identify key barriers and facilitators to engagement within a comprehensive healthcare system. This study also explored how racial and ethnic diversity within the nursing workforce may shape research engagement and contribute new perspectives to the field. Methods: A cross-sectional electronic survey was administered to registered nurses across 10 hospitals in a Northeast U.S. health system. The survey instrument assessed research attitudes, environment, involvement (past, present, future), and demographics. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including matched-pairs t-tests, were used to analyze responses. Results: Of 7655 invited nurses, 1094 responses were analyzed. Respondents were predominantly female (88.5%), White (56.8%), and employed full-time (87.1%) as clinical staff nurses (77.3%). While 54.8% had completed a formal research course (mainly within the past 1–3 years), informal research and statistics training were uncommon (17.4% and 5.4%, respectively). Nurses reported highly positive attitudes toward research (composite M = 2.15, SD = 0.51), especially its role in guiding practice, professional growth, and education. However, actual involvement was low. The most common current activities included practice change based on research (20.7%) and participation in committees (18.8%). Anticipated future engagement increased substantially, particularly in collaboration (+21.3%), committee participation (+20.6%), and IRB submission (+18.2%). The research environment was perceived as under-resourced, particularly in terms of protected time, funding, and mentorship. Statistically significant gaps were observed between perceived present and desired future supports (p < 0.01 for all 15 items). The Research Awareness Index revealed high rates of uncertainty about available resources (e.g., 66.1% did not know if internal funding existed). Conclusions: Nurses demonstrate strong positive attitudes and a desire to engage in research, including more advanced roles. Yet structural and informational barriers, particularly a lack of protected time, mentorship, and awareness of existing supports, limit participation. Investments in infrastructure, communication, and accessible development pathways are needed to translate nurses’ readiness into active research engagement. Implications: Institutions should prioritize making research support more visible and navigable while investing in mentorship, protected time, and user-friendly infrastructure. Addressing both facets will empower a highly motivated nursing workforce to engage in and lead practice-relevant research. Full article

The aim of this study is to examine existing positive energy district (PED) initiatives by using an explanatory research approach for gaining insight, identifying patterns, clarifying underlying processes, exploring cause-and-effect relationships, and explaining phenomena in a greater depth. Specifically, studies from the existing literature that have explored multiple PEDs were analyzed. Current challenges, barriers, and obstacles, as well as success factors, good practices, and policy guidelines are thoroughly investigated, evaluated, categorized and compared to unveil lessons learnt from diverse existing international projects for turning urban areas into self-sustainable and greener urban neighborhoods. The proposed framework aims to reveal the required processes for successful PED creation and operation. It provides an overview of the current state of the art and enhances comprehension and know-how about the processes needed for the successful adoption and integration of PEDs based on lessons learnt from global challenges and success stories. Dicke State Quantum Search for Solving the Vertex Cover Problem

This paper proposes a quantum algorithm, named Dicke state quantum search (DSQS), to set qubits in the Dicke state |Dkn of D states in superposition to locate the target inputs or solutions of specific patterns among 2n unstructured input instances, where n is the number of input qubits and D=nk=O(nk) for min(k,nk)n/2. Compared to Grover’s algorithm, a famous quantum search algorithm that calls an oracle and a diffuser O(2n) times, DSQS requires no diffuser and calls an oracle only once. Furthermore, DSQS does not need to know the number of solutions in advance. We prove the correctness of DSQS with unitary transformations, and show that each solution can be found by DSQS with an error probability less than 1/3 through O(nk) repetitions, as long as min(k,nk)n/2. Additionally, this paper proposes a classical algorithm, named DSQS-VCP, to generate quantum circuits based on DSQS for solving the k-vertex cover problem (k-VCP), a well-known NP-complete (NPC) problem. Complexity analysis demonstrates that DSQS-VCP operates in polynomial time and that the quantum circuit generated by DSQS-VCP has a polynomial qubit count, gate count, and circuit depth as long as min(k,nk)n/2. We thus conclude that the k-VCP can be solved by the DSQS-VCP quantum circuit in polynomial time with an error probability less than 1/3 under the condition of min(k,nk)n/2. Since the k-VCP is NP-complete, NP and NPC problems can be polynomially reduced to the k-VCP. If the reduced k-VCP instance satisfies min(k,nk)n/2, then both the instance and the original NP/NPC problem instance to which it corresponds can be solved by the DSQS-VCP quantum circuit in polynomial time with an error probability less than 1/3. All statements of polynomial algorithm execution time in this paper apply only to VCP instances and similar instances of other problems, where min(k,nk)n/2. Thus, they imply neither NP ⊆ BQP nor P = NP. In this restricted regime of min(k,nk)n/2, the Dicke state subspace has a polynomial size of D=nk=O(nk), and our DSQS algorithm samples from it without asymptotic superiority over exhaustive enumeration. Nevertheless, DSQS may be combined with other quantum algorithms to better exploit the strengths of quantum computation in practice. Experimental results using IBM Qiskit packages show that the DSQS-VCP quantum circuit can solve the k-VCP successfully. Full article
