Background: Influenza viruses are major pathogens responsible for respiratory infections and pose significant risks to densely populated urban areas. RT-qPCR has made substantial contributions in controlling virus transmission during previous COVID-19 epidemics, but it faces challenges in terms of detection time for large sample sizes and susceptibility to nucleic acid contamination. Methods: Our study designed loop-mediated isothermal amplification primers for three common influenza viruses: A/H3N2, A/H1N1, and B/Victoria, and utilized a 4-channel microfluidic chip to achieve simultaneous detection. The chip initiates amplification by centrifugation and allows testing of up to eight samples at a time. Results: By creating a closed amplification system in the microfluidic chip, aerosol-induced nucleic acid contamination can be prevented through physically isolating the reaction from the operating environment. The chip can specifically detect A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B/Victoria and has no signal for other common respiratory viruses. The testing process can be completed within 1 h and can be sensitive to viral RNA at concentrations as low as 10−3 ng/μL for A/H1N1 and A/H3N2 and 10−1 ng/μL for B/Victori. A total of 296 virus swab samples were further analyzed using the microfluidic chip method and compared with the classical qPCR method, which resulted in high consistency. Conclusions: Our chip enables faster detection of influenza virus and avoids nucleic acid contamination, which is beneficial for POCT establishment and has lower requirements for the operating environment. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) results in prolonged muscle weakness, impaired neuromuscular control, and delayed return to sport. Cross-education (CE), unilateral training of the uninjured limb, has been proposed as an adjunct therapy to promote bilateral adaptations. This scoping review evaluated the functional and neuroplastic effects of CE rehabilitation post-ACLR. Following PRISMA-ScR and JBI guidelines, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro were searched up to February 2025. A bibliometric analysis was also conducted to report keyword co-occurrence and identify trends in this line of research. Of 333 screened references, 14 studies (price index: 43% and low-to-moderate risk of bias) involving 721 participants (aged 17–45 years) met inclusion criteria. CE protocols (6–12 weeks; 2–5 sessions/week) incorporating isometric, concentric, and eccentric exercises demonstrated strength gains (10–31%) and strength preservation, alongside improved limb symmetry (5–14%) and dynamic balance (7–18%). There is growing interest in neuroplasticity and corticospinal excitability, although neuroplastic changes were assessed heterogeneously across studies. Findings support CE as a feasible and low-cost strategy to complement early-stage ACLR rehabilitation, especially when direct loading of the affected limb is limited. Standardized protocols for clinical intervention and neurophysiological assessment are needed. Full article

With the in-depth application of digital transformation in the oil industry, data-driven methods provide a new technical path for drilling engineering safety evaluation. In this paper, a data-driven drilling safety level evaluation system is proposed. By integrating the three-dimensional visualization technology of wellbore trajectory and the prediction model of friction torque, a dynamic and intelligent drilling risk evaluation framework is constructed. The Python platform is used to integrate geomechanical parameters, real-time drilling data, and historical working condition records, and the machine learning algorithm is used to train the friction torque prediction model to improve prediction accuracy. Based on the K-means clustering evaluation method, a three-tier drilling safety classification standard is established: Grade I (low risk) for friction (0–100 kN) and torque (0–10 kN·m), Grade II (medium risk) for friction (100–200 kN) and torque (10–20 kN·m), and Grade III (high risk) for friction (>200 kN) and torque (>20 kN·m). This enables intelligent quantitative evaluation of drilling difficulty. The system not only dynamically optimizes bottom-hole assembly (BHA) and drilling parameters but also continuously refines the evaluation model’s accuracy through a data backtracking mechanism. This provides a reliable theoretical foundation and technical support for risk early warning, parameter optimization, and intelligent decision-making in drilling engineering. Full article

This article presents a comprehensive assessment of mudflow risk in the Talgar River basin through the application of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods and numerical modeling using the Rapid Mass Movement Simulation (RAMMS) environment. The first part of the study involves a spatial assessment of mudflow hazard and susceptibility using GIS technologies and MCDA. The key condition for evaluating mudflow hazard is the identification of factors influencing the formation of mudflows. The susceptibility assessment was based on viewing the area as an object of spatial and functional analysis, enabling determination of its susceptibility to mudflow impacts across geomorphological zones: initiation, transformation, and accumulation. Relevant criteria were selected for analysis, each assigned weights based on expert judgment and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results include maps of potential mudflow hazard and susceptibility, showing areas of hazard occurrence and risk impact zones within the Talgar River basin. According to the mudflow hazard map, more than 50% of the basin area is classified as having a moderate hazard level, while 28.4% is subject to high hazard, and only 1.8% falls under the very high hazard category. The remaining areas are categorized as very low (4.1%) and low (14.7%) hazard zones. In terms of susceptibility to mudflows, 40.1% of the territory is exposed to a high level of susceptibility, 35.6% to a moderate level, and 5.5% to a very high level. The remaining areas are classified as very low (1.8%) and low (15.6%) susceptibility zones. The predictive performance was evaluated through Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, and the Area Under the Curve (AUC) value of the mudflow hazard assessment is 0.86, which indicates good adaptability and relatively high accuracy, while the AUC value for assessing the susceptibility of the territory is 0.71, which means that the accuracy of assessing the susceptibility of territories to mudflows is within the acceptable level of model accuracy. To refine the spatial risk assessment, mudflow modeling was conducted under three scenarios of glacial-moraine lake outburst using the RAMMS model. For each scenario, key flow parameters—height and velocity—were identified, forming the basis for classification of zones by impact intensity. The integration of MCDA and RAMMS results produced a final mudflow risk map reflecting both the likelihood of occurrence and the extent of potential damage. The presented approach demonstrates the effectiveness of combining GIS analysis, MCDA, and physically-based modeling for comprehensive natural hazard assessment and can be applied to other mountainous regions with high mudflow activity. Real-World Effectiveness of Rosuvastatin–Ezetimibe Single Pill (Rovazet®) in Korean Dyslipidemia Patients

Background: Fixed-dose combinations of rosuvastatin and ezetimibe are increasingly used in clinical practice, but real-world data on their effectiveness and safety in large populations remain limited. Methods: This prospective, single-group, open-label, non-interventional observational study was conducted in the Republic of Korea to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Rovazet® (a fixed-dose combination of rosuvastatin and ezetimibe). Patients were prospectively enrolled from 235 institutions (50 general hospitals and 185 private clinics) as part of routine clinical practice over a five-year period. Lipid profiles and medication compliance questionnaire results were collected at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks of treatment. Results: A total of 5527 patients with dyslipidemia, the majority were men (53.0%), and the mean age was 60.4 years. Rovazet® significantly reduced low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) by 23.5% at 12 weeks (from 117.47 ± 50.65 mg/dL to 81.14 ± 38.20 mg/dL; p < 0.0001) and by 27.4% at 24 weeks (from 117.47 ± 50.65 mg/dL to 74.52 ± 33.36 mg/dL; p < 0.0001). Total cholesterol was significantly reduced by 17.7% at 12 weeks and by 19.8% at 24 weeks. Rovazet® treatment reduced triglycerides by 4.1% at 12 weeks and by 7.2% at 24 weeks. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol increased by 4.5% at 12 weeks and by 7.9% at 24 weeks following Rovazet® treatment. These changes in lipid profiles were consistent, regardless of cardiovascular risk profiles. By 24 weeks of treatment with Rovazet®, 91.8% of patients had reached their target LDL-C goals. Adverse drug reactions were reported in 2.81% of patients, most of which were minor, indicating that Rovazet® was well tolerated. Conclusions: Rovazet® was effective in improving lipid profiles and well tolerated in Korean adults with dyslipidemia. Full article

Recent Trends in Surgical Strategies of Early-Stage Gallbladder Cancer: A Narrative Review

Background/Objectives: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a lethal malignancy curable only by surgical resection in early stages (Tis, T1, T2). Significant controversy exists regarding the optimal extent of surgery. This review summarizes recent trends and evidence on surgical strategies for Tis, T1, and T2 GBC to guide practice and research. Methods: This narrative review synthesizes recent literature on surgical management of Tis, T1a, T1b, and T2 GBC based on American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition staging. It examines simple vs. extended cholecystectomy (simple cholecystectomy (SC) vs. extended/radical cholecystectomy (EC/RC)), the role of lymphadenectomy (LND) and hepatectomy, and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Results: Simple cholecystectomy is curative for Tis/T1a GBC. For T1b, regional LND is essential for staging/potential benefit, especially examining ≥5–6 nodes. Tumor size is critical; SC alone may suffice for T1b < 1 cm (low lymph node metastasis (LNM) risk), while EC/RC with LND is indicated for ≥1 cm (higher LNM risk). Routine hepatectomy for T1b lacks survival support. For T2 GBC, mandatory regional LND (≥6 nodes) is required for both T2a and T2b substages due to high LNM rates; T2b has higher LNM than T2a. Routine hepatectomy for T2 is debated; evidence suggests no routine benefit for T2a beyond LND, with conflicting findings for T2b. R0 resection is paramount. MIS is feasible for early stages in experienced hands. Conclusions: Management of early GBC is moving towards risk stratification. SC is standard for Tis/T1a. Adequate regional LND is crucial for T1b (especially ≥1 cm) and mandatory for T2 GBC. Routine hepatectomy, particularly for T2b, remains controversial. Tailored surgery prioritizes R0 resection and comprehensive LND, necessitating further standardized research. Full article

Acacia mearnsii De Wild. has been introduced to over 150 countries for its economic value. However, it easily escapes from plantations and establishes monospecific stands across plains, hills, valleys, and riparian habitats, including protected areas such as national parks and forest reserves. Due to its negative ecological impact, A. mearnsii has been listed among the world’s 100 worst invasive alien species. This species exhibits rapid stem growth in its sapling stage and reaches reproductive maturity early. It produces a large quantity of long-lived seeds, establishing a substantial seed bank. A. mearnsii can grow in different environmental conditions and tolerates various adverse conditions, such as low temperatures and drought. Its invasive populations are unlikely to be seriously damaged by herbivores and pathogens. Additionally, A. mearnsii exhibits allelopathic activity, though its ecological significance remains unclear. These characteristics of A. mearnsii may contribute to its expansion in introduced ranges. The presence of A. mearnsii affects abiotic processes in ecosystems by reducing water availability, increasing the risk of soil erosion and flooding, altering soil chemical composition, and obstructing solar light irradiation. The invasion negatively affects biotic processes as well, reducing the diversity and abundance of native plants and arthropods, including protective species. Eradicating invasive populations of A. mearnsii requires an integrated, long-term management approach based on an understanding of its invasive mechanisms. Early detection of invasive populations and the promotion of public awareness about their impact are also important. More attention must be given to its invasive traits because it easily escapes from cultivation. Full article

Rock bolts are crucial components in the subterranean support systems in underground mines that provide adequate structural reinforcement to the rock mass to prevent unforeseen hazards like rockfalls. This makes frequent assessments of such bolts critical for maintaining rock mass stability and minimising risks in underground mining operations. Where manual surveying of rock bolts is challenging due to the low-light conditions in the underground mines and the time-intensive nature of the process, automated detection of rock bolts serves as a plausible solution. To that end, this study focuses on the automatic identification of rock bolts within medium- to large-scale 3D point clouds obtained from underground mines using mobile laser scanners. Existing techniques for automated rock bolt identification primarily rely on feature engineering and traditional machine learning approaches. However, such techniques lack robustness as these point clouds present several challenges due to data noise, varying environments, and complex surrounding structures. Moreover, the target rock bolts are extremely small objects within large-scale point clouds and are often partially obscured due to the application of reinforcement shotcrete. Addressing these challenges, this paper proposes an approach termed DeepBolt, which employs a novel two-stage deep learning architecture specifically designed for handling severe class imbalance for the automatic and efficient identification of rock bolts in complex 3D point clouds. The proposed method surpasses state-of-the-art semantic segmentation models by up to 42.5% in Intersection over Union (IoU) for rock bolt points. Additionally, it outperforms existing rock bolt identification techniques, achieving a 96.41% precision and 96.96% recall in classifying rock bolts, demonstrating its robustness and effectiveness in complex underground environments. A Series of Severe and Critical COVID-19 Cases in Hospitalized, Unvaccinated Children: Clinical Findings and Hospital Care

Background/Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly transformed social life worldwide, indiscriminately affecting individuals across all age groups. Children have not been exempted from the risk of severe illness and death caused by COVID-19. Objective: This paper sought to describe the clinical findings, laboratory and imaging results, and hospital care provided for severe and critical cases of COVID-19 in unvaccinated children, with or without severe asthma, hospitalized in a public referral service for COVID-19 treatment in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Methods: This was a case series study of severe and critical COVID-19 in hospitalized, unvaccinated children, with or without severe asthma, conducted in a public referral hospital between March 2020 and June 2021. Results: The case series included 80 children, aged from 1 month to 11 years, with the highest frequency among those under 2 years old (58.8%) and a predominance of males (65%). Respiratory diseases, including severe asthma, were present in 73.8% of the cases. Pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome occurred in 15% of the children, some of whom presented with cardiac involvement. Oxygen therapy was required in 65% of the cases, mechanical ventilation in 15%, and 33.7% of the children required intensive care in a pediatric intensive care unit. Pulmonary infiltrates and ground-glass opacities were common findings on chest X-rays and CT scans; inflammatory markers were elevated, and the most commonly used medications were antibiotics, bronchodilators, and corticosteroids. Conclusions: This case series has identified key characteristics of children with severe and critical COVID-19 during a period when vaccines were not yet available in Brazil for the study age group. However, the persistence of low vaccination coverage, largely due to parental vaccine hesitancy, continues to leave children vulnerable to potentially severe illness from COVID-19. These findings may inform the development of public health emergency contingency plans, as well as clinical protocols and care pathways, which can guide decision-making in pediatric care and ensure appropriate clinical management, ultimately improving the quality of care provided. Lane-Changing Risk Prediction on Urban Expressways: A Mixed Bayesian Approach for Sustainable Traffic Management

This study addresses critical safety challenges in sustainable urban mobility by developing a probabilistic framework for lane-change risk prediction on congested expressways. Utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-captured trajectory data from 784 validated lane-change events, we construct a Bayesian network model integrated with an I-CH scoring-enhanced MMHC algorithm. This approach quantifies risk probabilities while accounting for driver decision dynamics and input data uncertainties—key gaps in conventional methods like time-to-collision metrics. Validation via the Asia network paradigm demonstrates 80.5% reliability in forecasting high-risk maneuvers. Crucially, we identify two sustainability-oriented operational thresholds: (1) optimal lane-change success occurs when trailing-vehicle speeds in target lanes are maintained at 1.0–3.0 m/s (following-gap < 4.0 m) or 3.0–6.0 m/s (gap ≥ 4.0 m), and (2) insertion-angle change rates exceeding 3.0°/unit-time significantly elevate transition probability. These evidence-based parameters enable traffic management systems to proactively mitigate collision risks by 13.26% while optimizing flow continuity. Prevalence and Levels of Thyroid Autoantibodies in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome—Impact of TSH- and BMI-Matched Comparisons: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovarian morphology, and low-grade inflammation accompanied by oxidative stress and increased autoimmune risk, particularly Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Many studies have examined thyroid autoantibodies—anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO) and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (anti-TG)—in PCOS; however, observed differences in baseline thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and body mass indices (BMIs) impede a direct interpretation of the results. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize the available evidence on the prevalence and levels of anti-TPO and anti-TG in women with PCOS. We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Embase, which yielded 40 eligible, observational studies including 6045 women with PCOS and 4527 controls. Subgroup analyses were conducted separately for TSH- and BMI-matched populations. Anti-TPO prevalence (odds ratio [OR] = 2.03; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.35–3.04; p = 0.0006) and levels (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.37–0.88; p < 0.00001) were significantly higher in PCOS patients. Anti-TG prevalence (OR = 1.92; 95% CI: 1.23–3.01; p = 0.004) and levels (SMD = 0.41; 95% CI: 0.18–0.64; p = 0.0004) were also significantly elevated. In matched subgroups, prevalence differences were no longer significant, though anti-TPO levels remained significantly elevated and anti-TG levels were borderline significant in the TSH-matched subgroup of PCOS women. Although differences in thyroid autoantibody prevalence in women with PCOS appear to be driven by elevated TSH levels and BMIs, the persistently increased antibody levels in the majority of matched subgroups suggest that PCOS itself may contribute independently to heightened autoimmune activation. Unraveling the Role of Aluminum in Boosting Lithium-Ionic Conductivity of LLZO

The development of high-performance solid electrolytes is critical to advancing solid-state lithium-ion batteries (SSBs), with lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO) emerging as a leading candidate due to its chemical stability and wide electrochemical window. In this study, we systematically investigated the effects of cation dopants, including aluminum (Al3+), tantalum (Ta5+), gallium (Ga3+), and rubidium (Rb+), on the structural, electronic, and ionic transport properties of LLZO using density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. It appeared that, among all simulated results, Al-LLZO exhibits the highest ionic conductivity of 1.439 × 10−2 S/cm with reduced activation energy of 0.138 eV, driven by enhanced lithium vacancy concentrations and preserved cubic-phase stability. Ta-LLZO follows, with a conductivity of 7.12 × 10−3 S/cm, while Ga-LLZO and Rb-LLZO provide moderate conductivity of 3.73 × 10−3 S/cm and 3.32 × 10−3 S/cm, respectively. Charge density analysis reveals that Al and Ta dopants facilitate smoother lithium-ion migration by minimizing electrostatic barriers. Furthermore, Al-LLZO demonstrates low electronic conductivity (1.72 × 10−8 S/cm) and favorable binding energy, mitigating dendrite formation risks. Comparative evaluations of radial distribution functions (RDFs) and XRD patterns confirm the structural integrity of doped systems. Overall, Al emerges as the most effective and economically viable dopant, optimizing LLZO for scalable, durable, and high-conductivity solid-state batteries. Full article

In many developing African countries, milk safety is often managed through traditional methods such as fermentation or boiling over firewood. While these approaches reduce some microbial risks, they present critical limitations. Firewood dependency contributes to deforestation, depletion of agricultural residues, and loss of soil fertility, which, in turn, compromise environmental health and food security. Solar pasteurization provides a reliable and sustainable method for thermally inactivating pathogenic microorganisms in milk and other perishable foods at sub-boiling temperatures, preserving its nutritional quality. This study aimed to evaluate the thermal and microbial performance of a low-cost solar milk pasteurization system, hypothesized to effectively reduce microbial contaminants and retain milk quality under natural sunlight. The system was constructed using locally available materials and tailored to the climatic conditions of the Savanna ecological zone in West Africa. A flat-plate glass solar collector was integrated with a 0.15 cm thick stainless steel cylindrical milk vat, featuring a 2.2 cm hot water jacket and 0.5 cm thick aluminum foil insulation. The system was tested in Navrongo, Ghana, under ambient temperatures ranging from 30 °C to 43 °C. The pasteurizer successfully processed up to 8 L of milk per batch, achieving a maximum milk temperature of 74 °C by 14:00 GMT. Microbial analysis revealed a significant reduction in bacterial load, from 6.6 × 106 CFU/mL to 1.0 × 102 CFU/mL, with complete elimination of coliforms. These results confirmed the device’s effectiveness in achieving safe pasteurization levels. The findings demonstrate that this locally built solar pasteurization system is a viable and cost-effective solution for improving milk safety in arid, electricity-limited regions. Its potential scalability also opens avenues for rural entrepreneurship in solar-powered food and water treatment technologies. Full article

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate physical training protocols for alleviating long COVID symptoms, especially dyspnea and fatigue, through a systematic review with meta-analysis. Method: Data were collected from EMBASE, LILACS, PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Web of Science, and grey literature (Google Scholar, medRxiv). Studies evaluating dyspnea and/or fatigue before and after physical rehabilitation, using validated questionnaires, were included. Studies lacking pre- and post-assessments or physical training were excluded. Two reviewers independently extracted data on intervention type, duration, frequency, intensity, and assessment methods for dyspnea and fatigue. Bias risk was evaluated using the Cochrane tool. Results: Combined methods, such as respiratory muscle training with strength and aerobic exercise, were common for long COVID symptoms. Aerobic exercise notably improved dyspnea and/or fatigue. Among 25 studies, four had a low risk of bias. Meta-analysis of two studies found no significant reduction in fatigue. Conclusion: Combined training methods, particularly aerobic exercise, alleviate dyspnea and fatigue in long COVID. More high-quality studies are needed to confirm these findings. Full article

Molar pregnancy (MP) is a gestational disorder resulting from abnormal fertilization, leading to atypical trophoblastic proliferation and the formation of a complete or partial hydatidiform mole. This condition represents the most common form of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) and carries a significant risk of progression to gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Although rare in high-income countries, MP remains up to ten times more prevalent in low-income and developing countries, contributing to preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. This narrative review provides an updated, practical overview of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of MP. A key focus is the challenge of early diagnosis, particularly given the increasing frequency of first-trimester detection, where classical histopathological criteria may be subtle, leading to diagnostic errors. The review innovates by integrating advanced diagnostic methods—combining histopathology, immunohistochemistry using p57Kip2, Ki-67, and p53 markers, along with cytogenetic analysis—to improve diagnostic accuracy in early gestation. The central role of referral centers is also emphasized, not only in facilitating timely treatment and access to chemotherapy, but also in implementing standardized post-molar follow-up protocols that reduce progression to GTN and maternal mortality. By focusing on both advanced diagnostic strategies and the organization of care through referral centers, this review offers a comprehensive, practice-oriented perspective to optimize patient outcomes in GTD and address persistent care gaps in high-burden regions.
