The clinical management of major depressive disorder remains hampered by a trial-and-error approach to treatment selection, a challenge that current diagnostic and static predictive models have failed to address. While artificial intelligence (AI) applications have focused on classifying a patient’s present state, they lack the ability to forecast the trajectory of their future response. This study addresses this critical gap by proposing a new theoretical framework that conceptualises depression treatment response as a complex dynamic system. Drawing a powerful analogy from the engineering field of structural health monitoring and damage prognosis, which forecasts the remaining useful life of a system, we shift the paradigm from diagnosis to prognosis. We introduce three core constructs: the Patient State Vector (PSV), a multimodal baseline of a patient’s clinical, biological, and digital phenotype; the Therapeutic Impulse Function (TIF), a formal representation of a treatment’s properties; and the Predicted Recovery Trajectory (PRT), the forecasted path of symptom severity over time. The central thesis of the framework is that a patient’s PRT emerges from the dynamic interaction between their initial PSV and a given TIF. We present a series of testable propositions, such as how early fluctuations in PRT can classify patients into distinct “dynamic phenotypes” predictive of long-term outcomes. By integrating mechanisms across neurobiology, behaviour, and pharmacology within an SHM-inspired framework, this prognostic theory aims to provide a new systems-based paradigm for personalised psychiatry, moving beyond static prediction to a mechanistic understanding of recovery. This cross-disciplinary adaptation illustrates how SHM-derived principles of state assessment, load modelling, and prognosis can inform new frontiers in predictive health modelling. Full article

This study re-examines the ongoing debate over corporate disclosure frequency amid renewed calls to replace quarterly with semiannual reporting in U.S. markets. While traditional theories hold that frequent disclosure enhances informational efficiency by reducing asymmetry, emerging evidence highlights trade-offs involving managerial myopia, earnings management, and heightened short-term volatility. Using data from 2007 to 2024, the study compares Dow Jones Industrial Average firms, which report quarterly, with STOXX 50 firms, which report semiannually, to assess how disclosure cadence affects market reactions to earnings news The methodology involves identifying volatility regimes using Self-Exciting Threshold Autoregressive (SETAR) models, estimating dynamic betas with the GARCH(1,1) model, and analyzing shock transmission through vector autoregressions with cumulative impulse response functions (CIRFs). The results show that quarterly reporters exhibit larger immediate price reactions but faster normalization, implying that more frequent reporting accelerates information assimilation while amplifying contemporaneous volatility. Sectoral heterogeneity is pronounced: cyclical industries display higher beta volatility and steeper, but shorter-lived responses, whereas defensive stocks exhibit smoother convergence. These findings suggest that disclosure frequency influences both the intensity and duration of information shocks, providing insights for regulators who aim to balance transparency, market efficiency, and reporting costs across varying volatility and sectoral environments. Existing research on live-streaming e-commerce consumption behavior is mostly limited by a single disciplinary framework, unable to systematically parse the mechanism of macro-policies and cultural values on intergenerational consumer psychology. This study takes ASEAN cross-border live-streaming e-commerce as a scenario, integrates theories of economics, political science, and sociology, and constructs an innovative three-layer analysis model of “macroeconomic system–meso-market–micro-behavior” based on multi-source data from 2020 to 2024. It empirically explores the formation mechanism of intergenerational differences in impulse buying. The results show that the behavior differences of different groups are significantly driven by income gradient, cross-border policies (tariff adjustment and consumer protection regulations), and collectivism/individualism cultural orientations. The innovative contribution of this study is reflected in three aspects: Firstly, it breaks through the limitation of a single discipline, and for the first time, it incorporates structural variables such as policy synergy effect and family structure change into the theoretical framework of impulse buying, quantifying and revealing the differentiated impact of institutional heterogeneity in ASEAN markets on intergenerational behavior. Secondly, it reconstructs the transmission path of “cultural values–family structure–intergenerational behavior” and finds that the inhibitory effect of collectivism on impulse buying tends to weaken with age. Thirdly, it proposes a “policy instrument–generational response” matching model and verifies the heterogeneous impact of the same policy (such as tariff reduction) on different generations. This study fills the gaps in related research and can provide empirical support for ASEAN enterprises to formulate stratified marketing strategies and for policymakers to optimize cross-border e-commerce regulation. which is of great significance to promote the sustainable development of the regional live-broadcast e-commerce ecology. In the digital era, online search patterns provide a practical way to track changes in the public interest in sustainability. This study analyzes monthly Google Trends data in the United States (January 2019–December 2024) for five keywords: two institutional (“ESG”, “carbon neutral”), and three consumer-oriented (“eco friendly”, “zero waste”, and “plastic free”). Drawing on agenda-setting theory and the diffusion-of-innovations framework, we test the directional links between institutional and consumer attention. The methods include Granger causality tests, impulse response functions, and cross-correlation analysis. The findings reveal a consistent lead–lag structure in which institutional terms precede consumer-oriented searches, but the timing and persistence of influence vary across concepts. A broad discourse such as ESG produces slower, yet more sustained, effects, whereas action-oriented concepts like carbon neutrality generate quicker but shorter-lived responses. Seasonal analysis also shows recurring peaks in consumer interest around events such as Earth Day and Plastic-Free July, underscoring the cyclical nature of attention to sustainability. By integrating communication theory with multi-year digital trace data, this study provides evidence of how institutional messaging diffuses into consumer behavior, while highlighting the roles of timing and message framing. The results contribute to sustainability communication research and offer practical insights for policymakers, NGOs, and marketers relevant to aligning campaigns with evolving public attention. This study delves into the response characteristics of core grounding current signals in power transformers across different operating conditions, aiming to enhance the accuracy of transformer condition assessment. Existing detection technologies often rely on single-parameter methods, which fall short in providing a comprehensive evaluation of transformer conditions. To address this limitation, this research develops a wideband circuit model based on multi-conductor transmission line theory and backed by experimental validation. The model systematically investigates the response mechanisms of core grounding current to various electrical stresses, including impulse voltages, power-frequency harmonics, and partial discharges. The findings reveal distinct response characteristics of core grounding current under different stresses. Under impulse voltage excitation, the core current exhibits high-frequency oscillatory decay with characteristics linked to voltage waveform parameters. In harmonic conditions, the current spectrum shows linear correspondence with excitation voltages, with no resonance below 1 kHz. Partial discharges induce high-frequency oscillations in the grounding current due to multi-resonant networks formed by distributed winding-core parameters. This study establishes a new theoretical framework for transformer condition assessment based on core grounding current analysis, offering critical insights for optimizing detection technologies and overcoming the limitations of traditional methods. In a previous work, we identified the importance of rotation invariance in the standard complex-valued theory of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems and proposed a generalized vector-valued (VV) definition of convolution that reinterprets the complex-valued product of the traditional formalism as a scale rotation within the framework of geometric algebra. Based on this convolution definition, we characterized linear rotation-invariant time-invariant (LRITI) systems by defining and using a VV impulse response—effectively generalizing time-domain analysis for VV signals and LRITI systems. In this work, we provide a compatible frequency-domain analysis for VV signals and LRITI systems. First, VV bivector exponential signals are shown to be eigenfunctions of LRITI systems. A Fourier transform is defined, and we propose two generalized definitions of frequency response: the first valid for bivector exponentials in an arbitrary plane and the second valid for a general signal decomposed into a set of totally orthogonal planes (TOPs). Finally, we establish a convolution property for the Fourier transform with respect to TOPs. Together, these results provide compatible time-domain and frequency-domain analyses, thereby enabling a more comprehensive analysis of VV signals and LRITI systems. Full article

This study aims to explore how key opinion leader (KOL) characteristics influence users’ purchase intentions in live shopping. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines real-time pop-up text mining and questionnaires, analyzed via Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling and a research framework integrating the stimulus–organism–response (SOR) model with pleasure–arousal–dominance (PAD) theory. Results indicate that KOL characteristics—namely professionalism, popularity, attractiveness, and entertainment—enhance users’ pleasure, arousal, and trust. These emotions boost impulse buying intentions but not planned ones. Planned purchase intention acts as a partial mediator, whereas impulse purchase intention serves as a full mediator. This research uncovers the intricate mechanism linking KOL traits to user emotions and purchase intentions. By integrating PAD theory and the SOR model, it examines emotional mediators, addresses prior theoretical gaps, offers vital insights for refining live-streaming marketing strategies, and holds substantial theoretical and practical significance for the sustainable growth of live-streaming e-commerce. Vestibular atelectasis (VA) is a rare clinical entity characterized by a collapse of the endolymphatic space resulting in vestibular loss with the possible onset of positional and/or sound/pressure-induced vertigo. It could be idiopathic or secondary to other inner-ear diseases including Meniere’s disease (MD). A collapse of the membranous labyrinth involving the semicircular canals (SCs) and the utricle represents its distinctive histopathological feature. While specific radiological patterns consistent with VA have been described on contrast-enhanced MRI with delayed acquisitions, an impairment of the blood–labyrinthine barrier (BLB) could be detected in several disorders leading to vestibular loss. We conducted a narrative review of the literature on VA focusing on the putative pathomechanisms accounting for positional and sound/pressure-induced nystagmus despite unilateral vestibular loss (UVL) in this condition, providing two novel cases of VA. Both patients presented with a clinical picture consistent with unilateral MD that rapidly turned into progressive UVL and positional and/or sound/pressure-induced vertigo. In both cases, the posterior SC was initially impaired at the video-head impulse test (vHIT) and both cervical and ocular VEMPs were initially reduced. Progressively, they developed unsteadiness with paretic spontaneous nystagmus, an impairment also for the lateral and anterior SCs, caloric hypo/areflexia and VEMPs areflexia. They both exhibited ipsilesional nystagmus to sound/pressure stimuli and in one case a persistent geotropic direction-changing positional nystagmus consistent with a “light cupula” mechanism involving the lateral SC of the affected side. A collapse of the membranous labyrinthine walls resulting in contact between the vestibular sensors and the stapes footplate could explain the onset of nystagmus to loud sounds and/or pressure changes despite no responses to high- and low-frequency inputs as detected by caloric irrigations, vHIT and VEMPs. On the other hand, the onset of positional nystagmus despite UVL could be explained with the theory of the “floating labyrinth”. Both patients received contrast-enhanced brain MRI with delayed acquisition exhibiting increased contrast uptake in the pars superior of the labyrinth, suggesting an impairment of the BLB likely resulting in secondary VA. A small intralabyrinthine schwannoma was detected in one case. VA should always be considered in case of positional and/or sound/pressure-induced vertigo despite UVL. Full article

As social media platforms become integral to information dissemination, they play a crucial role in shaping tourist decision-making and travel behavior. However, while previous studies have examined the general influence of social media on tourism, limited research has explored the interplay between source attributes, content quality, destination image, and trust in fostering impulsive travel intentions, a key yet underexplored aspect of tourist behavior. To address this gap, this study integrates the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) theory and the Information Adoption Model (IAM) to analyze how source credibility, source homophily, and content quality on social media influence impulsive travel intentions through destination image and trust. Using structural equation modeling (SEM) on survey data from 419 Chinese respondents, the results reveal that source credibility and homophily significantly enhance content quality, while both credibility and content quality positively shape destination image. Moreover, destination image and trust serve as crucial mediators, strengthening the relationship between social media attributes and impulsive travel behavior. This study advances the discourse on sustainable tourism development by shedding light on the role of digital engagement in shaping tourists’ spontaneous travel decisions, a dimension often overlooked in discussions on long-term economic sustainability. Furthermore, by examining the nuanced mechanisms of social media influence, this research provides practical implications for tourism marketers and policymakers aiming to leverage digital platforms for sustainable destination marketing. The Talbot effect concerns the periodic self-imaging along an optical axis of a free-space optical field that is periodic in an initial transverse plane. It may be modeled by a shift-invariant linear system, fully characterized by the convolution of its impulse response. Self-imaging at integer and fractional Talbot distances of point sources on a regular grid in free space may then be represented by a transmission matrix that is circulant, symmetric, and persymmetric. The free-space Talbot effect may be mapped to the Talbot effect in a multimode waveguide by imposing the anti-symmetry of the mirror-like sidewalls created by the tight confinement of light within a high-index contrast multimode waveguide. The position of the anti-symmetry axis controls the distribution of discrete lattice points in a unit cell. For different distributions, interesting features such as conditional flexibility in the placement of access ports without altering amplitude and phase relationships, omitting ports without power penalty, closed form uneven splitting ratios, and offset access ports can be derived from the MMI coupler. As a specific example, a simple 2×2 MMI coupler is shown to provide a power-splitting ratio related to the golden ratio φ. The structure is amenable to planar photonic integration on any high-index contrast platform. The predictions of the theory are confirmed by simulation and verified by experimental measurements on a golden ratio MMI coupler fabricated using an SOI process. Full article

This study assesses the informational usefulness of several uncertainty metrics in predicting the monetary policy and actual economic activity of Tunisia. We use a Bayesian time-varying vector autoregressive (VAR) model to identify uncertainty shocks sequentially. We complement the analysis with the use of local projections (LPs), a recently flexible and simple method that accommodates the effect of an exogenous intervention on policy outcomes. The findings suggest that shocks to global and spillover uncertainty are important in elucidating the dynamics of industrial production and consumer prices. The impulse response functions (IRFs) show that the central bank does not follow a linear-rule-based monetary strategy. The irreversibility theory, or the “precautionary” behavior, is tested in a vector error correction model (VECM). The money market rate impacts industrial production and consumer prices differently during high versus low uncertainty, depending on the uncertainty variable and the horizon (short versus long run). The effects can be insignificant or significantly dampened during high uncertainty, indicating that conventional monetary policy may be ineffective or less influential. The “wait and see” strategy adopted by economic agents implies that they do not take timely actions until additional pieces of information arrive. While this could not be the sole explanation of our findings, it conveys the importance of dealing with uncertainty in decision-making and highlights the necessity of a clear and credible communication strategy. Importantly, the central bank should complement interest rates with the use of unconventional monetary policy instruments for better flexibility. Our work provides a comprehensive and clear picture of the Tunisian economy and a focal guide for the central bank’s future practices to achieve macroeconomic objectives. Full article

Food waste poses a substantial global challenge, with intricate environmental, economic, and ethical ramifications. This study examines household food waste behaviors, emphasizing the interplay of personal responsibility, awareness of consequences, personal norms, and systemic barriers. Employing a thematic analysis of in-depth interviews with 60 households across Hungary’s Central and Western Transdanubian regions, this research explores factors influencing waste-reduction strategies across the pre-, mid-, and post-consumption phases. The thematic analysis of the interview data yielded key themes, including ascription of responsibility (AR), awareness of consequences (AC), personal norms (PN), demographic characteristics (DC), behavioral intentions (FWBI), and barriers (B). Participants identified barriers to waste reduction, such as impulse buying, poor storage practices, and limited knowledge of food rescue initiatives. Incorporating these barriers as a core variable deepens the understanding of systemic challenges, while stage-specific analysis illuminates the evolution of waste-reduction behaviors. These insights will inform targeted interventions, such as community programs, educational campaigns, and technology-driven solutions, including food rescue apps, to foster sustainable consumption. This study’s integration of behavioral theories with actionable strategies provides valuable guidance for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to reduce household food waste on a global scale. The impact of weather on mental illness is widely debated, but the mechanism of this relationship remains unclear. The immunoseasonal theory suggests that in winter, a T-helper 1 (Th1) response predominates, impairing Prefrontal Cortex (PFC) control, which exacerbates symptoms of depression, while after it, in summer, a Th2 response predominates in immunologically prone individuals, activating cortical and mesolimbic centers, which can exacerbate symptoms of psychosis. In this paper, we aim to describe the validity of this theory through a narrative review of data related to weather and immunology in psychiatry. This review extends existing literature by integrating immunological findings with psychiatric seasonality research, offering a mechanistic perspective that links Th1/Th2 shifts to specific symptom exacerbations. Winter Th1 severity may worsen depression and anxiety, while summer Th2 dominance appears to be associated with exacerbations of schizophrenia, mania, impulsivity, and suicide risk. It is possible that the mechanism of Th1 response potentiation and deterioration of PFC function is common to most psychiatric entities and is nonspecific. This suggests that seasonal immune dysregulation may play a broader role in psychiatric disorders than previously recognized, challenging the idea that seasonality impacts only selected conditions. Characteristic dysfunctions within an individual determine further differences in clinical manifestations. The mechanism of Th2 potentiation may not be limited to mania and psychosis but may also be associated with increased impulsivity and suicide risk. If the immunoseasonal theory is confirmed, selected immunological markers could be used not only in the diagnosis of psychiatric exacerbations but also in predicting symptom fluctuations and tailoring treatment strategies. This could enable more personalized interventions, such as seasonally adjusted medication dosing or targeted anti-inflammatory therapies. While this mechanism seems plausible, further research, especially analyzing markers of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses, is needed to better understand and confirm it. Full article

This work presents accurate values for the dynamic stiffness matrix coefficients of Levinson beams under axial loading embedded in a Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundation. Levinson’s theory accounts for greater shear deformation than the Euler–Bernoulli or Timoshenko theories. Using the dynamic stiffness approach, an explicit algebraic expression is derived from the homogeneous solution of the governing equations. The dynamic stiffness matrix links forces and displacements at the beam’s ends. The Wittrick–Williams algorithm solves the eigenvalue problem for the free vibration and buckling of uniform cross-section parts. Numerical results are validated against published data, and reliability is confirmed through consistency tests. Parametric studies explore the effects of aspect ratio, boundary conditions, elastic medium parameters, and axial force on beam vibration properties. The relative deviation for the fundamental frequency is almost 6.89% for a cantilever beam embedded in the Pasternak foundation, 5.16% for a fully clamped beam, and 4.79% for a clamped–hinged beam. Therefore, Levinson beam theory can be used for calculations relevant to loads with short durations that generate transient responses, such as impulsive loads from high-speed railways, using the mode superposition method. This paper explores the application of Hilbert topological spaces and linear operator algebra in the modelling and analysis of OFDM signals and wireless channels, where the channel is considered as a linear time-invariant (LTI) system. The wireless channel, when subjected to an input OFDM signal, can be described as a mapping from an input Hilbert space to an output Hilbert space, with the system response governed by linear operator theory. By employing the mathematical framework of Hilbert spaces, we formalise the representation of OFDM signals, which are interpreted as elements of an infinite-dimensional vector space endowed with an inner product. The LTI wireless channel is characterised by using bounded linear operators on these spaces, allowing for the decomposition of complex channel behaviour into a series of linear transformations. The channel’s impulse response is treated as a kernel operator, facilitating a functional analysis approach to understanding the signal transmission process. This representation enables a more profound understanding of channel effects, such as fading and interference, through the eigenfunction expansion of the operator, leading to a spectral characterization of the channel. The algebraic properties of linear operators are leveraged to develop optimal solutions for mitigating channel distortion effects. Full article
