With the continuous increase in the proportion of distributed energy output in the distribution network and the limited equipment on the management side of the active distribution network, it is very important to give full play to the regulating role of the dispatchable potential of large-scale electric vehicles for the economic operation of the distribution network. To deal with this issue, this paper proposes an optimal dispatching model of the distribution network considering the combination of the dispatchable potential of electric vehicle clusters and demand response. Firstly, the active distribution network dispatching model with the demand response is introduced, and the equipment involved in the active distribution network dispatching is modeled. Secondly, the bidirectional long short-term memory network algorithm is used to process the historical data of electric vehicles to reduce the uncertainty of the model. Then, the shared energy-storage characteristics based on the dispatchable potential of electric vehicle clusters are fully explored and the effect of peak shaving and valley filling after the demand response is fully explored. This approach significantly reduces the network loss and operating cost of the active distribution network. Finally, the modified IEEE-33 bus test system is utilized for test analysis in the case analysis, and the test results show that the established active distribution network model can reduce the early construction cost of the system’s energy-storage equipment, improve the energy-utilization efficiency, and realize the economic operation of the active distribution network. Background/Objectives: Men have historically contributed significantly to mental health nursing, particularly in inpatient settings, where their presence has supported patient recovery and safety. Despite this legacy, men remain under-represented in the nursing workforce, and addressing this imbalance is critical to workforce sustainability. This study offers a novel contribution by exploring the lived experiences, motivations, and professional identities of men in mental health nursing, an area that has received limited empirical attention. The aim of the study is to examine the characteristics, qualities, and attributes of mental health nurses who are male, which contributes to their attraction to and retention within the profession. Methods: A qualitative interpretive inquiry was conducted among nurses who were male and either currently or previously employed in mental health settings. Two focus groups were conducted using semi-structured questions to explore their career pathways, motivations, professional identities, and perceived contributions. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes and patterns in their narratives. Results: Seven participants, with 10–30 years of experience, participated. They had entered the profession through diverse pathways, expressing strong alignment between personal values and professional roles. Five themes emerged and centred on mental health being the heart of health, personal and professional fulfillment, camaraderie and teamwork, a profound respect for individuals and compassion, and overcoming and enjoying the challenge. Conclusions: Mental health nurses who are male bring unique contributions to the profession, embodying compassion, resilience, and ethical advocacy. Their experiences challenge traditional gender norms and redefine masculinity in health care. Fostering inclusive environments, mentorship, and leadership opportunities is essential to support their growth. These insights inform strategies to strengthen recruitment, retention, and the future of mental health nursing. Full article

Understanding the spatial dynamics and drivers of armed conflict is crucial for anticipating risk and informing targeted interventions. However, current research rarely considers the spatio-temporal clustering characteristics of armed conflicts. Here, we assess the distribution dynamics and driving factors of armed conflict from the perspective of armed conflict clusters, employing complex network dynamic community detection methods and interpretable machine learning approaches. The results show that conflict clusters vary in terms of regional distribution. Sub-Saharan Africa boasts the highest number of conflict clusters, accounting for 37.9% of the global total and covering 40.4% of the total cluster area. In contrast, South Asia and Afghanistan, despite having a smaller proportion of clusters at 12.1%, hold the second-largest cluster area, which is 18.1% of the total. The characteristics of different conflict networks are influenced by different factors. Historical exposure, socio-economic deprivation, and spatial structure are the primary determinants of conflict patterns, while climatic variables contribute less prominently as part of a broader system of environmental vulnerability. Moreover, the influence of driving factors shows spatial heterogeneity. By integrating cluster-level analysis with interpretable machine learning, this study offers a novel perspective for understanding the multidimensional characteristics of armed conflicts. Revisiting Cytoreductive Nephrectomy in Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma: Real-World Evidence of Survival Benefit with First-Line Immunotherapy and Targeted Therapy Regimens

Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignancy with a rising global incidence. While cytoreductive nephrectomy (CRN) was historically a cornerstone in the management of metastatic RCC (mRCC), its role has been questioned following pivotal trials such as CARMENA and SURTIME. With the advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and targeted therapies, the contemporary relevance of CRN coupled with first-line immunotherapy and targeted therapy combination regimens warrants re-evaluation. Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized the TriNetX research network to identify patients aged 18–90 years diagnosed with mRCC between 2005 and 2024 who received first-line systemic therapies. Patients were stratified into two cohorts based on receipt of CRN status within one year of diagnosis. Propensity score matching (1:1) was done to adjust baseline characteristics. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards modeling were used to compare five-year overall survival between the groups. Results: Among 5960 eligible patients, 1776 (888 CRN matched to 888 who did not) formed the cohort of analysis. The CRN group demonstrated significantly higher five-year survival (57.7% vs. 45.0%, p < 0.0001) with a hazard ratio of 1.56 (95% CI: 1.33–1.83). Subgroup analyses showed consistent survival benefits across all four NCCN-recommended first-line regimens—Axitinib + Pembrolizumab: 64.0% (CRN) vs. 53.3% (no CRN), p = 0.01; Cabozantinib + Nivolumab: 50.1% vs. 40.4%, p = 0.004; Lenvatinib + Pembrolizumab: 37.4% vs. 22.8%, p = 0.012; Nivolumab + Ipilimumab: 56.4% vs. 46.1%, p = 0.005. Conclusions: In the era of modern immunotherapy and targeted agents, CRN remains associated with improved survival in patients with mRCC receiving NCCN-recommended first-line regimens. These findings support the continued evaluation of CRN as a component of multimodal therapy, particularly in patients with favorable risk profiles. Full article

The study of historical monuments within both architectural and literary frameworks reveals a dynamic interplay between scientific observation and artistic interpretation—a vital characteristic of travel writing/the travelogue. This approach, exemplified by British traveler and writer Henry Finnis Blosse Lynch (1862–1913), reflects how factual detail and creative representation are seamlessly integrated in depictions of sites, landscapes, and cultural scenes. This case study highlights Lynch as a pioneering explorer who authored the first comprehensive volume on Armenian architecture and as a writer who vividly portrayed Armenian monuments through both verbal description and photographic imagery, becoming the first traveler to document such sites using photography. Additionally, this paper emphasizes the significance of Lynch’s detailed accounts of architectural monuments, churches, monasteries, cities, villages, populations, religious communities, and educational institutions in vivid language. The careful study of his work can contribute meaningfully to the investigation of the travelogue as a literary genre and to the preservation and protection of the architectural heritage of historical and contemporary Armenia, particularly in regions facing cultural or political threats. This article analyzes the work of Fr. Elias Friedman, whose legacy of theological work on Jewish identity and Jewish conversion to Catholicism serves as the foundation of the Association of Hebrew Catholics, of which he is the founder. Friedman frames his work as a sensitive approach to Jewish identity and Catholic faith, but as this paper demonstrates, his work reveals a reiteration of some of the most entrenched and historically devastating tropes of Christian anti-Judaism, as well as racial antisemitism. This article presents three main arguments. First, it demonstrates that Friedman’s work evidences a theological anti-Judaism characteristic of Catholicism prior to the Second Vatican Council, which he maintained firmly even after the theological revision of Vatican II rejected such views; and furthermore, that his work also expresses an antisemitism that reflects the modern racial antisemitism adopted by the Nazi regime. Second, this article examines the positive reception of Friedman’s work, as evidenced not only in the revered position he holds within the Association for Hebrew Catholics, but also by the nihil obstat and imprimatur on both of Friedman’s monographs, that is, the official stamp of ecclesiastical approval within the Catholic Church, which declares that the work is “free of doctrinal and moral error.” It proposes that these factors evidence the uncritical reception of his work not only within the Association of Hebrew Catholics, but also on behalf of the institutional Catholic Church. Third, it raises the question of the extent to which Friedman’s identity as a Jewish convert to Catholicism is relevant in the analysis and reception of his work. It argues that his Jewish identity makes his concoction of religious anti-Judaism and racial antisemitism particularly potent, rendering anodyne even the most virulently antisemitic of his statements. Objectives: The increasing use of fetal MRI has increased the diagnosis of posterior fossa malformations, yet the long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of affected fetuses remain unclear. This study aims to examine the long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of fetuses with structural posterior fossa malformation diagnosed on fetal MRI. Methods: A historical cohort study was conducted at a single tertiary referral center, including fetuses diagnosed with structural posterior fossa malformations and apparently healthy fetuses who underwent fetal brain MRI between 2011 and 2019. Maternal, pregnancy, and newborn characteristics were compared between groups, alongside long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes using the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales II (VABS-II) questionnaire. This included an extensive assessment of malformation types, additional structural, genetic, or neurodevelopmental anomalies, and outcomes. Results: A total of 126 fetuses met the inclusion criteria, of which 70 were apparently healthy fetuses, and 56 had structural posterior fossa malformations. Among the latter, 18 pregnancies were terminated, 4 resulted in neonatal death, and 11 were lost to follow-up. No significant differences were found in the overall neurodevelopmental outcomes between fetuses with structural posterior fossa malformation (93.4 ± 19.0) and apparently healthy fetuses (99.8 ± 13.8). Motor skills scores were lower among fetuses with structural posterior fossa malformations (87.7 ± 16.5 vs. 99.3 ± 17.2, p = 0.01) but remained within the normal range. Conclusion: Fetuses with structural posterior fossa malformations may exhibit normal long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes if no additional anomalies are detected during thorough prenatal screening that includes proper sonographic, biochemical and genetic screening, as well as fetal MRI. Further research with larger cohorts and longer-term assessments is recommended to validate these findings and support clinical decision-making. Full article

Landslide susceptibility modelling represents an efficient approach to enhance disaster management and mitigation strategies. The focus of this paper lies in the development of a landslide susceptibility evaluation in northwestern Tunisia using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approaches. The used database covers 286 landslides, including ten landslide factor maps: rainfall, slope, aspect, topographic roughness index, lithology, land use and land cover, distance from streams, drainage density, lineament density, and distance from roads. The AHP and ANN approaches were applied to classify the factors by analyzing the correlation relationship between landslide distribution and the significance of associated factors. The Landslide Susceptibility Index result reveals five susceptible zones organized from very low to very high risk, where the zones with the highest risks are associated with the combination of extreme amounts of rainfall and steep slope. The performance of the models was confirmed utilizing the area under the Relative Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves. The computed ROC curve (AUC) values (0.720 for ANN and 0.651 for AHP) convey the advantage of the ANN method compared to the AHP method. The overlay of the landslide inventory data locations of historical landslides and susceptibility maps shows the concordance of the results, which is in favor of the established model reliability. To address the limitations of the existing cotton seedling growth prediction methods in field environments, specifically, poor representation of spatiotemporal features and low visual fidelity in texture rendering, this paper proposes an algorithm for the prediction of cotton seedling growth from images based on FCA-STNet. The model leverages historical sequences of cotton seedling RGB images to generate an image of the predicted growth at time t + 1 and extracts 37 phenotypic traits from the predicted image. A novel STNet structure is designed to enhance the representation of spatiotemporal dependencies, while an Adaptive Fine-Grained Channel Attention (FCA) module is integrated to capture both global and local feature information. This attention mechanism focuses on individual cotton plants and their textural characteristics, effectively reducing the interference from common field-related challenges such as insufficient lighting, leaf fluttering, and wind disturbances. The experimental results demonstrate that the predicted images achieved an MSE of 0.0086, MAE of 0.0321, SSIM of 0.8339, and PSNR of 20.7011 on the test set, representing improvements of 2.27%, 0.31%, 4.73%, and 11.20%, respectively, over the baseline STNet. The method outperforms several mainstream spatiotemporal prediction models. Furthermore, the majority of the predicted phenotypic traits exhibited correlations with actual measurements with coefficients above 0.8, indicating high prediction accuracy. The proposed FCA-STNet model enables visually realistic prediction of cotton seedling growth in open-field conditions, offering a new perspective for research in growth prediction. Full article

In recent years, phylogenomic approaches have significantly deepened our understanding of moss diversity. These techniques have uncovered numerous previously overlooked species and provided greater clarity in resolving complex taxonomic relationships. In this context, the genus Rehubryum is particularly outstanding, because of its close morphological similarity to both Ulota and Atlantichella. The challenges posed by its segregation are addressed in this study, which integrates morphological and molecular data to reassess the circumscription of Rehubryum and its phylogenetic placement within the subtribe Lewinskyinae. Our results support the recognition of a new species, R. kiwi, and show that its inclusion within the genus further complicates the morphological delimitation of Rehubryum from Ulota, as both genera are distinguishable by only two consistent gametophytic characteristics: a submarginal leaf band of elongated cells, and the presence of geminate denticulations in the margins of the basal half of the leaf. Moreover, R. kiwi challenges the current morphological circumscription of Rehubryum itself, as it overlaps in key characteristics with its sister genus Atlantichella, rendering their morphological separation untenable. The striking interhemispheric disjunction between Rehubryum and Atlantichella raises new questions about long-distance dispersal and historical biogeography in mosses, despite these complexities at the generic level. Nevertheless, species-level distinctions remain well defined, especially in sporophytic traits and geographic distribution. These findings highlight the pervasive cryptic diversity within Orthotrichaceae, underscoring the need for integrative taxonomic frameworks that synthesize morphology, molecular phylogenetics, and biogeography to resolve evolutionary histories. This study investigates the delineation of management zones (MZs) to support site-specific crop management by simplifying within-field variability in irrigated (54.6 ha) and rainfed (7.9 ha) sorghum and soybean fields in Brazil. Historical yield, apparent soil electrical conductivity (ECa) at 0.75 m and 1.50 m, and terrain data were analyzed using multivariate statistics to define MZs. Two clustering methods—fuzzy c-means (FCM) and hierarchical clustering—were compared for variance reduction effectiveness. Rainfed areas showed greater spatial variability (yield CV 9–12%; ECa CV 20–27%) than irrigated fields (yield CV < 7%; ECa CV ~5%). Principal component analysis (PCA) identified subsoil ECa and elevation as key variables in irrigated fields, while surface ECa and topography influenced rainfed variability. FCM produced more homogeneous zones with fewer classes, especially in irrigated fields, whereas hierarchical clustering better detected outliers but required more zones for similar variance reduction. Yield correlated strongly with slope and moisture in rainfed systems. These results emphasize aligning MZ delineation with production system characteristics—enabling variable rate irrigation in irrigated fields and promoting moisture conservation in rainfed systems. FCM is recommended for operational efficiency, while hierarchical clustering offers higher precision in complex contexts. Full article

This study explores the challenges and theoretical transformations that the widespread application of AI technology in social governance brings to the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. By examining typical cases in judicial assistance, technology-enabled law enforcement, and welfare supervision, it explains how AI characteristics such as algorithmic opacity, data bias, and automated decision-making affect fundamental rights including due process, equal protection, and privacy. The article traces the historical evolution of privacy theory from physical space protection to informational self-determination and further to modern data rights, pointing out the inadequacy of traditional rights-protection paradigms in addressing the characteristics of AI technology. Through analyzing AI-governance models in the European Union, the United States, Northeast Asia, and international organizations, it demonstrates diverse governance approaches ranging from systematic risk regulation to decentralized industry regulation. With a special focus on China, the article analyzes the special challenges faced in AI governance and proposes specific recommendations for improving AI-governance paths. The article argues that only within the track of the rule of law, through continuous theoretical innovation, institutional construction, and international cooperation, can AI technology development be ensured to serve human dignity, freedom, and fair justice. This study presents the first systematic empirical comparison of neural architectures for Universal Dependencies (UD) parsing in Old English, thus addressing central questions in computational historical linguistics and low-resource language processing. We evaluate three approaches—a baseline spaCy pipeline, a pipeline with a pretrained tok2vec component, and a MobileBERT transformer-based model—across datasets ranging from 1000 to 20,000 words. Our results demonstrate that the pretrained tok2vec model consistently outperforms alternatives, because it achieves 83.24% UAS and 74.23% LAS with the largest dataset, whereas the transformer-based approach substantially underperforms despite higher computational costs. Performance analysis reveals that basic tagging tasks reach 85–90% accuracy, while dependency parsing achieves approximately 75% accuracy. We identify critical scaling thresholds, with substantial improvements occurring between 1000 and 5000 words and diminishing returns beyond 10,000 words, which provides insights into scaling laws for historical languages. Technical analysis reveals that the poor performance of the transformer stems from parameter-to-data ratio mismatches (1250:1) and the unique orthographic and morphological characteristics of Old English. These findings defy assumptions about transformer superiority in low-resource scenarios and establish evidence-based guidelines for researchers working with historical languages. The broader significance of this study extends to enabling an automated analysis of three million words of extant Old English texts and providing a framework for optimal architecture selection in data-constrained environments. Our results suggest that medium-complexity architectures with monolingual pretraining offer superior cost–benefit trade-offs compared to complex transformer models for historical language processing. As an integral component of humanity’s cultural heritage, traditional villages universally confront challenges such as population loss and cultural discontinuity amid rapid urbanization. Cluster-based protection models have increasingly become the international consensus for addressing the survival crisis of such settlements. This study selects the Central Yunnan region of Southwest China—characterized by its complex geography and multi-ethnic habitation—as the research area. Employing ArcGIS spatial analysis techniques alongside clustering algorithms, we examine the spatial distribution characteristics and clustering patterns of 251 traditional villages within this region. The findings are as follows. In terms of spatial distribution, traditional villages in Central Yunnan are unevenly dispersed, predominantly aggregating on mid-elevation gentle slopes; their locations are chiefly influenced by rivers and historical courier routes, albeit with only indirect dependence on waterways. Regarding single-cluster attributes, the spatial and geomorphological features exhibit a composite “band-and-group” pattern shaped by river valleys; culturally, two dominant modes emerge—“ancient-route-dependent” and “ethnic-symbiosis”—reflecting an economy-driven cultural mechanism alongside latent marginalization risks. Concerning construction characteristics, the “Qionglong-Ganlan” and Han-style “One-seal” residential features stand out, illustrating both adaptation to mountainous environments and the cumulative effects of historical culture. Based on these insights, we propose a three-tiered clustering classification framework—“comprehensive-element coordination”, “feature-led”, and “potential-cultivation”—to inform the development of contiguous and typological protection strategies for traditional villages in highland, multi-ethnic regions. Blue Zones (BZs) are regions across the world associated with exceptional human longevity, where individuals routinely live into their 90s and beyond. These areas share distinct lifestyle and environmental factors that promote healthy aging. The established BZs include Sardinia, Okinawa, Ikaria, and Nicoya, while several “emerging” BZs have been reported in various parts of the globe. This study investigates an area in Sicily for similar longevity patterns. Demographic data from the Italy National Institute of Statistics and local civil registries identify the municipality of Caltabellotta, home to approximately 3000 residents, and the nearby Sicani Mountains as a potential emerging BZ. The area exhibits a significantly higher prevalence of nonagenarians and centenarians compared to national and regional averages. Between 1900 and 1924, the proportion of newborns in Caltabellotta who reached age 90 and above rose from 3.6% to 14%, with 1 out of 166 individuals during this period reaching the age of 100. Historical, dietary, environmental, and sociocultural characteristics align with known BZ traits, including adherence to the Mediterranean diet, physical activity through agrarian routines, strong social cohesion, and minimal environmental pollution. A comparative analysis with the validated Sardinia BZ supports the hypothesis that this Sicilian area may represent an emerging longevity hotspot. Further multidisciplinary investigation is warranted to substantiate these findings. Full article
