The use of Acousto-Optical Tunable Filters (AOTFs) is well known in ground- and space-based applications. These devices are used in several optical instruments and payloads for monitoring and other purposes. To make use of the filter capability of the AOTF, a dedicated Radio Frequency (RF) chain, consisting of an RF generator and RF amplifier, is needed. An RF generator can be designed in several ways. However, the design of these steering devices for space applications comes with several difficulties and limitations. The mechanical stress due to shock and vibration, the temperature variation, as well as the vacuum environment and radiation levels in which these devices have to perform limits the selection of possible techniques. This paper aims at giving an in-depth overview of space-qualified RF generator techniques using Commercial-Off-The-Shelf available components that usable in the harsh environment of space and applicable in driving AOTFs. Skeletal muscle regeneration depends on muscle stem cells, which give rise to myoblasts that drive muscle growth, repair, and maintenance. In bats—the only mammals capable of powered flight—these processes must also sustain contractile performance under extreme mechanical and metabolic stress. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying bat muscle physiology remain largely unknown. To enable mechanistic investigation of these traits, we established the first myoblast cell lines from the pectoralis muscle of Pteronotus mesoamericanus, a highly maneuverable aerial insectivore. Using both spontaneous immortalization and exogenous hTERT/CDK4 gene overexpression, we generated two stable cell lines that retain proliferative capacity and differentiate into contractile myotubes. These cells exhibit frequent spontaneous contractions, suggesting robust functional integrity at the neuromuscular junction. In parallel, we performed transcriptomic and metabolic profiling of native pectoralis tissue in the closely related Pteronotus parnellii to define molecular programs supporting muscle specialization. Gene expression analyses revealed enriched pathways for muscle metabolism, development, and regeneration, highlighting supporting roles in tissue maintenance and repair. Consistent with this profile, the flight muscle is triglyceride-rich, which serves as an important fuel source for energetically demanding processes, including muscle contraction and cellular recovery. Integration of transcriptomic and metabolic data identified three key metabolic modules—glucose utilization, lipid handling, and nutrient signaling—that likely coordinate ATP production and support metabolic flexibility. Together, these complementary tools and datasets provide the first in vitro platform for investigating bat muscle research, enabling direct exploration of muscle regeneration, metabolic resilience, and evolutionary physiology. An increasing global population, rising energy demands, and the shift toward a circular bioeconomy are driving the need for more resource-efficient waste management. The increase in the world population—now exceeding 8 billion as of 2024—results in an increased need for alternative proteins, both human and feed grade proteins, as well as for biopolymers and bioenergy. As such, agricultural, forest, and marine waste biomass represent a valuable feedstock for production of food and feed ingredients, biopolymers, and bioenergy. However, the lack of integrated and efficient valorization strategies for these diverse biomass sources remains a major challenge. This literature review aims to give a systematic approach on the recent research status of agricultural, forest, and marine waste biomass valorization, focusing on cascade processing (a sequential combination of processes such as pretreatment, extraction, and conversion methods). Potential products will be identified that create the most economic value over multiple lifetimes, to maximize resource efficiency. It highlights the challenges associated with cascade processing of waste biomass and proposes technological synergies for waste biomass valorization. Moreover, this review will provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential of waste biomass valorization in the context of sustainable and circular bioeconomy. Full article

This study dives into what drives people to use AR filters in the catering industry, focusing on the Hong Kong market. The main idea is to determine how “perceived value” shapes users’ intentions to engage with these filters. To do this, the research combines concepts from two popular models—the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Satisfaction–Loyalty Model (SLM)—to understand what influences perceived value. The survey data were then analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to see how perceived usefulness, enjoyment, satisfaction, and value connect to users’ intentions. The results showed that “perceived value” is a big deal—the main factor driving whether people want to use AR filters. Things like how useful or enjoyable the filters are and how satisfied users feel all play a role in shaping this perceived value. These findings are gold for marketing teams and AR developers, especially in the catering world. Combining TAM and the Satisfaction–Loyalty Model offers a fresh perspective on how AR technology influences consumer behavior. On top of that, it gives practical advice for businesses looking to make the most of AR filters in their marketing and customer experience strategies. Full article

The crystal structures of the 2-amino-5-halogenopyridines (halogen = Cl (1), Br (2)) and 2,3-diamino-5-halogenopyridines (halogen = Cl (3), Br (4)) were compared with respect to their intermolecular interactions. An ab-initio-based method for evaluating the interaction energies between molecules was employed to estimate the driving forces of crystal formation. As a result, regularities in crystal structure organization were identified. For compounds 1 and 2, a dimeric building unit is formed by two N–H…Npyr hydrogen bonds. These dimers are further connected to neighboring units by C–H…π, C–H…N, N…X (X = Cl, Br), and non-specific interactions. The aforementioned intermolecular interactions give rise to layered structures that are similar but not isotypical. No significant contributions from π–π or N–H…N(H2) interactions are observed in 1 and 2. The structures of 3 and 4 are isotypical and crystallize in the non-centrosymmetric space group P212121. The most important intermolecular interactions are N–H…Npyr, N–H…N(H2), and stacking interactions. These interactions lead to identical columnar-layered structures in both 3 and 4. No significant contributions from halogen bonds of the type N…X (X = Cl, Br) are found in 3 and 4. Full article

Growing awareness of sustainable development and green consumer concerns is driving the market expansion for green agriculture products. E-commerce live streaming gives rural enterprises a new channel through scenario-building and interaction, while agro-tourism integration combines resources to generate a variety of promotion scenarios. This study examines the effects of external stimuli, including social networks, resource endowment, infrastructure, and the characteristics of e-commerce streamers, on the perception, trust, perceived value, and purchase intention of green consumption. It is based on the SOR (Stimulus–Organism–Response) theoretical model and focuses on e-commerce live streaming in the agriculture-tourism integration scenario. According to a structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis of 350 consumer questionnaires, these external stimuli primarily influence purchase intention through perceived value, trust, and green consumption cognition, with resource endowment having the most significant impact. The effects of infrastructure on perceived value and streamer attractiveness on green consumption cognition are not statistically significant. This research not only broadens the use of the SOR model in the emerging field of agritourism integration but also offers rural businesses theoretical backing and useful guidance to maximize e-commerce live marketing and enhance agritourism integration. The realization of agricultural modernization inevitably requires the improvement of agricultural land productivity. Rural public science and technology services is an important driving force to improve agricultural land productivity. However, can rural public science and technology services accelerate the process of agricultural modernization by improving land productivity? This paper innovatively constructs an evaluation index system and an mediating mechanism model, measures the comprehensive index of agricultural modernization and rural public science and technology services through the global entropy method, and empirically tests the mediating effect of the mechanism of “land productivity” with the help of measurement methods such as the Sobel–Goodman test and Bootstrap test. The research results find that rural public science and technology services can positively promote agricultural modernization and pass the 1% significance level test. There is a significant mediating effect of “increasing production” in the impact of rural public science and technology services on agricultural modernization, that is, rural public science and technology services can significantly promote agricultural modernization through the mechanism of “improving land productivity”. Government intervention and economic growth are significantly positive, which can significantly promote agricultural modernization. These findings have clear policy implications: Chinese government should accelerate the filling of gaps in rural public technology services between urban and rural areas in the southwest region, empower land productivity through science and technology, and promote the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces. This research is helpful to provide policy reference and case experience for similar areas to speed up agricultural modernization by giving full play to the mechanism of “improving land productivity” of agricultural science and technology services. About 10% of all forms of melanoma occur in a familial context and may be due to germline predisposing mutations transmitted as autosomal dominant traits within the affected families. CDKN2A is a highly penetrant gene associated to familial melanomas, being responsible of up to 40% of the cases. Other high, moderate, and low penetrance genes are being discovered, even if their own contribution to melanoma risk is still under debate. Indeed, next generation sequencing-based strategies enable large genomic regions to be analyzed, thus identifying novel candidate genes. These strategies, in diagnostic settings, may also improve the identification of the hereditary cases between all melanomas. The identification of the at-risk subjects gives an important opportunity for cancer surveillance in order to reduce the risk of onset and/or make early diagnosis. In addition, the identification of molecular biomarkers may drive the future development of specific targeted therapies, as already done for other inherited cancer syndromes. Here, we summarize the state of the art regarding the molecular basis of the hereditary susceptibility to develop melanoma. Full article

Image segmentation is a foundation for autonomous driving frameworks that empower vehicles to explore and navigate their surrounding environment. It gives a fundamental setting to the dynamic cycles by dividing the image into significant parts like streets, vehicles, walkers, and traffic signs. Precise segmentation ensures safe navigation and the avoidance of collisions, while following the rules of traffic is very critical for seamless operation in self-driving cars. The most recent deep learning-based image segmentation models have demonstrated impressive performance in structured environments, yet they often fall short when applied to the complex and unpredictable conditions encountered in autonomous driving. This study proposes an Adaptive Ensemble Attention (AEA) mechanism within a Generative Adversarial Network architecture to deal with dynamic and complex driving conditions. The AEA integrates the features of self, spatial, and channel attention adaptively and powerfully changes the amount of each contribution as per input and context-oriented relevance. It does this by allowing the discriminator network in GAN to evaluate the segmentation mask created by the generator. This explains the difference between real and fake masks by considering a concatenated pair of an original image and its mask. The adversarial training will prompt the generator, via the discriminator, to mask out the image in such a way that the output aligns with the expected ground truth and is also very realistic. The exchange of information between the generator and discriminator improves the quality of the segmentation. In order to check the accuracy of the proposed method, the three widely used datasets BDD100K, Cityscapes, and KITTI were selected to calculate average IoU, where the value obtained was 89.46%, 89.02%, and 88.13% respectively. These outcomes emphasize the model’s effectiveness and consistency. Overall, it achieved a remarkable accuracy of 98.94% and AUC of 98.4%, indicating strong enhancements compared to the State-of-the-art (SOTA) models. Full article

The making of a land patrimony for the benefit of religious missions is profoundly linked to territorial construction in the colonies but is rarely examined from the angle of ecclesiastical governmentality over the ceded lands. This analysis highlights three complementary processes for understanding the role of religious mission land heritage in territorial reconfigurations. First, this article examines the process of “land sanctuarization”, which materializes territorial anchoring through the crystallization of land rights granted to religious missions over customary lands previously presumed to be “vacant”. Next, it explores the formation of an “ecclesiastical dominium”, manifested in the dismantling of state missions and their free transfer, explicit or tacit, to religious missions under concession or agreement regimes. This reveals the exercise of state power over the land heritage of religious missions, positioning them as structuring axes and administrative intermediaries for public services, thus giving rise to an ecclesiastical governmentality that drives territorial production and reconfiguration. Finally, postcolonial dynamics reveal the resurgence of new spatial polarities shaped by the complexity of evolving religious actors along the center–periphery axis of a recomposing territorialization. This study underscores the importance of a transversal approach to better govern the land legacies of religious missions, fostering a pluralistic reterritorialization of postcolonial societies in central Africa. Higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly called upon to both respond to and drive societal change. To better understand how HEIs can enhance their ability to innovate, an integrative literature review was conducted, examining the concept of innovative capacity. Key resources, such as social capital and leadership, that support innovative capacity were identified, and the ways in which these key resources interact to give rise to innovation outcomes were explored. The findings were synthesized in a conceptual framework that illuminates the pathways through which the capacity for innovation can be built and leveraged by HEIs. This framework serves as both a theoretical foundation for future research and a practical guide for HEI leaders and policymakers seeking to foster innovation. By leveraging these insights, HEIs can better navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving society and reinforce their role as key drivers of knowledge creation and the complex societal transformations necessary for a sustainable future. Background/Objectives: The experience of pregnancy and parturition has been associated with long-term health effects in mothers, imparting protective effects against some diseases while the risk of other diseases is increased. The mechanisms that drive these altered disease risks are unknown. This study examined DNA methylation (DNAm) changes from pre-pregnancy to several years after giving birth in parous women compared to nulliparous controls over the same time interval. Methods: Using 180 parous-associated CpGs, three analyses were carried out to test DNAm changes from pre-pregnancy at age 18 years to gestation; from gestation to post-pregnancy at age 26 years in parous women; and from 18 to 26 years in nulliparous women using linear mixed models with repeated measures. Results: The directions of DNAm changes were the same between the parous and nulliparous groups. Most CpG dinucleotides (67%, 121 of 180) had a decreasing trend while a small number (7%, 13 of 180) had an increasing trend. Of the CpGs showing increasing or decreasing DNAm, approximately half had DNAm change to a smaller extent in parous women and the other half changed more in parous women than nulliparous controls. 9% (17 of 180) changed significantly in nulliparous women only, leading to a significant difference in DNAm levels in parous women at the post-pregnancy 26 years time point. Conclusions: Pregnancy and parturition may accelerate methylation changes in some CpGs, but slow down or halt methylation changes over time in other CpGs. Full article

In response to the problem of cooperative steering control between drivers and intelligent driving systems, a master–slave Game-Based human–machine cooperative steering control framework with adaptive weight fuzzy decision-making is constructed. Firstly, within this framework, a dynamic weight approach is established. This approach takes into account the driver’s state, traffic environment risks, and the vehicle’s global control deviation to adjust the driving weights between humans and machines. Secondly, the human–machine cooperative relationship with unconscious competition is characterized as a master–slave game interaction. The cooperative steering control under the master–slave game scenario is then transformed into an optimization problem of model predictive control. Through theoretical derivation, the optimal control strategies for both parties at equilibrium in the human–machine master–slave game are obtained. Coordination of the manipulation actions of the driver and the intelligent driving system is achieved by balancing the master–slave game. Finally, different types of drivers are simulated by varying the parameters of the driver models. The effectiveness of the proposed driving weight allocation scheme was validated on the constructed simulation test platform. The results indicate that the human–machine collaborative control strategy can effectively mitigate conflicts between humans and machines. By giving due consideration to the driver’s operational intentions, this strategy reduces the driver’s workload. Under high-risk scenarios, while ensuring driving safety and providing the driver with a satisfactory experience, this strategy significantly enhances the stability of vehicle motion. Full article

As cyber systems increasingly converge with physical infrastructure and social processes, they give rise to Complex Cyber–Physical–Social Systems (C-CPSS), whose emergent behaviors pose unique risks to security and mission assurance. Traditional cyber–physical system models often fail to address the unpredictability arising from human and organizational dynamics, leaving critical gaps in how cyber risks are assessed and managed across interconnected domains. The challenge lies in building resilient systems that not only resist disruption, but also absorb, recover, and adapt—especially in the face of complex, nonlinear, and often unintentionally emergent threats. This paper introduces the concept of ‘responsible resilience’, defined as the capacity of systems to adapt to cyber risks using trustworthy, transparent agent-based models that operate within socio-technical contexts. We identify a fundamental research gap in the treatment of social complexity and emergence in existing the cyber–physical system literature. To address this, we propose the E3R modeling paradigm—a novel framework for conceptualizing Emergent, Risk-Relevant Resilience in C-CPSS. This paradigm synthesizes human-in-the-loop diagrams, agent-based Artificial Intelligence simulations, and ontology-driven representations to model the interdependencies and feedback loops driving unpredictable cyber risk propagation more effectively. Compared to conventional cyber–physical system models, E3R accounts for adaptive risks across social, cyber, and physical layers, enabling a more accurate and ethically grounded foundation for cyber defence and mission assurance. Our analysis of the literature review reveals the underrepresentation of socio-emergent risk modeling in the literature, and our results indicate that existing models—especially those in industrial and healthcare applications of cyber–physical systems—lack the generalizability and robustness necessary for complex, cross-domain environments. The E3R framework thus marks a significant step forward in understanding and mitigating emergent threats in future digital ecosystems. Full article

Creating Tail Dependence by Rough Stochastic Correlation Satisfying a Fractional SDE; An Application in Finance

The stochastic correlation for Brownian motions is the integrand in the formula of their quadratic covariation. The estimation of this stochastic process becomes available from the temporally localized correlation of latent price driving Brownian motions in stochastic volatility models for asset prices. By analyzing this process for Apple and Microsoft stock prices traded minute-wise, we give statistical evidence for the roughness of its paths. Moment scaling indicates fractal behavior, and both fractal dimensions (approx. 1.95) and Hurst exponent estimates (around 0.05) point to rough paths. We model this rough stochastic correlation by a suitably transformed fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process and simulate artificial stock prices, which allows computing tail dependence and the Herding Behavior Index (HIX) as functions in time. The computed HIX is hardly variable in time (e.g., standard deviation of 0.003–0.006); on the contrary, tail dependence fluctuates more heavily (e.g., standard deviation approx. 0.04). This results in a higher correlation risk, i.e., more frequent sudden coincident appearance of extreme prices than a steady HIX value indicates. Full article
