Oil spill simulation models are essential for predicting the oil spill behavior and movement in marine environments. In this study, we comprehensively reviewed a large and diverse body of peer-reviewed literature obtained from Scopus and Web of Science. Our initial analysis phase focused on examining trends in scientific publications, utilizing the complete dataset derived after systematic screening and database integration. In the second phase, we applied elements of a systematic review to identify and evaluate the most influential contributions in the scientific field of oil spill simulations. Our analysis revealed a steady and accelerating growth of research activity over the past five decades, with a particularly notable expansion in the last two. The field has also experienced a marked increase in collaborative practices, including a rise in international co-authorship and multi-authored contributions, reflecting a more global and interdisciplinary research landscape. We cataloged the key modeling frameworks that have shaped the field from established systems such as OSCAR, OIL-MAP/SIMAP, and GNOME to emerging hybrid and Lagrangian approaches. Hydrodynamic models were consistently central, often integrated with biogeochemical, wave, atmospheric, and oil-spill-specific modules. Environmental variables such as wind, ocean currents, and temperature were frequently used to drive model behavior. Geographically, research has concentrated on ecologically and economically sensitive coastal and marine regions. We conclude that future progress will rely on the real-time integration of high-resolution environmental data streams, the development of machine-learning-based surrogate models to accelerate computations, and the incorporation of advanced biodegradation and weathering mechanisms supported by experimental data. These advancements are expected to enhance the accuracy, responsiveness, and operational value of oil spill modeling tools, supporting environmental monitoring and emergency response. Full article

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) represent a growing global health threat, particularly for immunocompromised populations, with mortality exceeding 1.5 million deaths annually. Despite their clinical and economic burden—costing billions in healthcare expenditures—fungal infections remain underprioritized in public health agendas. This review examines the current landscape of antifungal therapy, focusing on advances, challenges, and future directions. Key drug classes (polyenes, azoles, echinocandins, and novel agents) are analyzed for their mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and clinical applications, alongside emerging resistance patterns in pathogens like Candida auris and azole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus. The rise of resistance, driven by agricultural fungicide use and nosocomial transmission, underscores the need for innovative antifungals, rapid diagnostics, and stewardship programs. Promising developments include next-generation echinocandins (e.g., rezafungin), triterpenoids (ibrexafungerp), and orotomides (olorofim), which target resistant strains and offer improved safety profiles. The review also highlights the critical role of “One Health” strategies to mitigate environmental and clinical resistance. Future success hinges on multidisciplinary collaboration, enhanced surveillance, and accelerated drug development to address unmet needs in antifungal therapy. Full article

In a rapidly evolving business landscape, the success of software development (SD) projects is increasingly impacted by uncertainty, which poses significant challenges for project managers. Despite the known influence of uncertainty on project outcomes, its types, causes, and challenges in software remain inadequately understood. This review conducts a systematic analysis of previous related SD projects and related research to clarify these aspects, ultimately identifying key research gaps and proposing future research directions. By adopting a mixed-methods review that integrates scientometric analysis and systematic review methods, this study analysed 60 articles from the Scopus database. The results reported nine causes, six types, and nine challenges associated with uncertainty in SD to provide insights for project managers and researchers in understanding and managing uncertainty more effectively. Additionally, this study proposes four areas for further research to enhance focus and innovation in SD project management. Full article

Augmented reality (AR), which overlays digital content within the user’s view, is gaining traction across domains such as education, healthcare, manufacturing, and entertainment. The hardware constraints of commercially available HMDs are well acknowledged, but little work addresses what design or interactions techniques developers can employ or build into experiences to work around these limitations. We conducted a scoping literature review, with the aim of mapping the current landscape of design principles and interaction techniques employed in near-field AR environments. We searched for literature published between 2016 and 2025 across major databases, including the ACM Digital Library and IEEE Xplore. Studies were included if they explicitly employed design or interaction techniques with a commercially available HMD for near-field AR experiences. A total of 780 articles were returned by the search, but just 7 articles met the inclusion criteria. Our review identifies key themes around how existing techniques are employed and the two competing goals of AR experiences, and we highlight the importance of embodiment in interaction efficacy. We present directions for future research based on and justified by our review. The findings offer a comprehensive overview for researchers, designers, and developers aiming to create more intuitive, effective, and context-aware near-field AR experiences. This review also provides a foundation for future research by outlining underexplored areas and recommending research directions for near-field AR interaction design. Full article

Plant genetics and chemotaxonomic analysis are considered key parameters in understanding evolution, plant diversity and adaptation. Korean Peninsula has a unique biogeographical landscape that supports various aromatic plant species, each with considerable ecological, ethnobotanical, and pharmacological significance. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the chemotaxonomic traits, biological activities, phylogenetic relationships and potential applications of Korean aromatic plants, highlighting their significance in more accurate identification. Chemotaxonomic investigations employing techniques such as gas chromatography mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy have enabled the identification of essential oils and specialized metabolites that serve as valuable taxonomic and diagnostic markers. These chemical traits play essential roles in species delimitation and in clarifying interspecific variation. The biological activities of selected taxa are reviewed, with emphasis on antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic effects, supported by bioassay-guided fractionation and compound isolation. In parallel, recent advances in phylogenetic reconstruction employing DNA barcoding, internal transcribed spacer regions, and chloroplast genes such as rbcL and matK are examined for their role in clarifying taxonomic uncertainties and inferring evolutionary lineages. Overall, the search period was from year 2001 to 2025 and total of 268 records were included in the study. By integrating phytochemical profiling, pharmacological evidence, and molecular systematics, this review highlights the multifaceted significance of Korean endemic aromatic plants. The conclusion highlights the importance of multidisciplinary approaches including metabolomics and phylogenomics in advancing our understanding of species diversity, evolutionary adaptation, and potential applications. Future research directions are proposed to support conservation efforts. Full article

The intersection of green finance and artificial intelligence (AI) represents a rapidly emerging and high-impact research domain with the potential to reshape sustainable economic systems. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric and network analysis aimed at mapping the scientific landscape, identifying research hotspots, and highlighting methodological trends at this nexus. A dataset of 268 peer-reviewed publications (2014–June 2025) was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, filtered by the Business Economics category. Analytical techniques employed include Bibliometrix in R, VOSviewer, and science mapping tools such as thematic mapping, trend topic analysis, co-citation networks, and co-occurrence clustering. Results indicate an annual growth rate of 53.31%, with China leading in both productivity and impact, followed by Vietnam and the United Kingdom. The most prolific affiliations and authors, primarily based in China, underscore a concentrated regional research output. The most relevant journals include Energy Economics and Finance Research Letters. Network visualizations identified 17 clusters, with focused analysis on the top three: (1) Emission, Health, and Environmental Risk, (2) Institutional and Technological Infrastructure, and (3) Green Innovation and Sustainable Urban Development. The methodological landscape is equally diverse, with top techniques including blockchain technology, large language models, convolutional neural networks, sentiment analysis, and structural equation modeling, demonstrating a blend of traditional econometrics and advanced AI. This study not only uncovers intellectual structures and thematic evolution but also identifies underdeveloped areas and proposes future research directions. These include dynamic topic modeling, regional case studies, and ethical frameworks for AI in sustainable finance. The findings provide a strategic foundation for advancing interdisciplinary collaboration and policy innovation in green AI–finance ecosystems. Full article

Through a systematic review of sustainable rural dwelling recovery, this study offers a broader reflection on retrofitting practices, viewing eco-efficiency as a means to enhance both cultural heritage and agricultural landscapes. The work is based on the assumption that vernacular architecture in rural contexts embodies historical, cultural, and typological values worthy of preservation, while remaining adaptable to reuse through eco-efficient solutions and technological innovation. Using the PRISMA protocol, 115 scientific contributions were selected from 1711 initial records and classified into four macro-groups: landscape relationships; seismic and energy retrofitting; construction techniques and innovative materials; and morphological–typological analysis. Results show a predominance (over 50%) of passive design strategies, compatible materials, and low-impact techniques, while active systems are applied more selectively to protect cultural integrity. The study identifies replicable methodological models combining sustainability, cultural continuity, and functional adaptation, offering recommendations for future operational guidelines. Conscious eco-efficient retrofitting thus emerges as a strategic tool for the integrated valorization of rural landscapes and heritage. Full article

Ongoing interest in the intersection of spirituality and health has prompted a need for integrated research. This report proposes a distinct approach in a model that allows for successful and harmonious cross-fertilization within these latter two areas of interest. Our work is especially pertinent to inquiries around the role of spirituality in mental health, with special attention to chronic pain conditions. The latter have become an open channel for novel avenues to explore the field of spirituality-based interventions within the arena of psychological inquiry. To address this, the authors developed and implemented the Church and Academia Model, a prototype for an innovative collaborative research project, with the aim of exploring the role of devotional practices, and their potential to be used as therapeutic co-adjuvants or tools to enhance the coping skills of patients with chronic pain. Keeping in mind that the church presents a rich landscape for clinical inquiry with broad relevance for clinicians and society at large, we created a unique hybrid research model. This is a new paradigm that focuses on distinct and well-defined studies where the funding, protocol writing, study design, and implementation are shared by experts from both the pastoral and clinical spaces. A team of theologians, researchers, and healthcare providers, including clinical pain psychologists, built a coalition leveraging their respective skill sets. Each expert is housed in their own environs, creating a functional network that has proven academically productive and pastorally effective. Key outputs include the creation and validation of a new psychometric measure, the Pain-related PRAYER Scale (PPRAYERS), an associated bedside prayer tool and a full-scale dissemination strategy through journal publications and specialty society conferences. This collaborative prototype is also an ideal fit for integrated knowledge translation platforms, and it is a promising paradigm for future collaborative projects focused on spirituality and mental health. The age of entrepreneurship calls for the evolving of learning and development (L&D) models to meet the dynamic demands of innovation, sustainability, and technology innovation. This study examines the trends and issues of L&D models for entrepreneurs, more so focusing on how these models influence business success in a rapidly changing global landscape. The research employs bibliometric analysis, VOSviewer cluster analysis, and co-citation analysis to explore the literature from 1994 to 2024. Data collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database reflect significant trends in entrepreneurial L&D, with particular emphasis on the use of digital tools, sustainability processes, and governance systems. Findings emphasize the imperative role of L&D in fostering entrepreneurship, more so in areas such as digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies. The study also identifies central regions propelling this field, such as UK and USA. Future studies will be centered on the role of digital technologies, innovation, and green business models within entrepreneurial L&D frameworks. This study provides useful insight into the future of L&D within the entrepreneurial domain, guiding academia and companies alike in the planning of effective learning strategies to foster innovation and sustainable business growth. Extracellular vesicle (EV)-based therapies have attracted considerable attention as a novel class of biologics with broad clinical potential. However, their clinical translation is impeded by the fragmented and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, with significant disparities between the United States, European Union, and key Asian jurisdictions. In this review, we systematically analyze regional guidelines and strategic frameworks governing EV therapeutics, emphasizing critical hurdles in quality control, safety evaluation, and efficacy demonstration. We further explore the implications of EVs’ heterogeneity on product characterization and the emerging direct-to-consumer market for EVs and secretome preparations. Drawing on these insights, in this review, we aim to provide a roadmap for harmonizing regulatory requirements, advancing standardized analytical approaches, and fostering ongoing collaboration among regulatory authorities, industry stakeholders, and academic investigators. Such coordinated efforts are essential to safeguard patient welfare, ensure product consistency, and accelerate the responsible integration of EV-based interventions into clinical practice. Background/Objectives: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) represents a major global health challenge characterized by complex adipose–liver interactions mediated by adipokines and hepatokines. Despite rapid field evolution, a comprehensive understanding of research trends and translational advances remains fragmented. This study systematically maps the scientific landscape through bibliometric analysis, identifying emerging domains and future clinical translation directions. Methods: A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 1002 publications from 2004 to 2025 was performed using thematic mapping, temporal trend evaluation, and network analysis. Analysis included geographical and institutional distributions, thematic cluster identification, and research paradigm evolution assessment, focusing specifically on adipokine–hepatokine signaling mechanisms and clinical implications. Results: The United States and China are at the forefront of research output, whereas European institutions significantly contribute to mechanistic discoveries. The thematic map analysis reveals the motor/basic themes residing at the heart of the field, such as insulin resistance, fatty liver, metabolic syndrome, steatosis, fetuin-A, and other related factors that drive innovation. Basic clusters include metabolic foundations (obesity, adipose tissue, FGF21) and adipokine-centered subjects (adiponectin, leptin, NASH). New themes focus on inflammation, oxidative stress, gut microbiota, lipid metabolism, and hepatic stellate cells. Niche areas show targeted fronts such as exercise therapies, pediatric/novel adipokines (chemerin, vaspin, omentin-1), and advanced molecular processes that focus on AMPK and endoplasmic-reticulum stress. Temporal analysis shows a shift from single liver studies to whole models that include the gut microbiota, mitochondrial dysfunction, and interactions between other metabolic systems. The network analysis identifies nine major clusters: cardiovascular–metabolic links, adipokine–inflammatory pathways, hepatokine control, and new therapeutic domains such as microbiome interventions and cellular stress responses. Conclusions: In summary, this study delineates current trends and emerging areas within the field and elucidates connections between mechanistic research and clinical translation to provide guidance for future research and development in this rapidly evolving area. Male-factor infertility accounts for approxiamately half of all infertility cases globally, yet therapeutic options remain limited for individuals with no retrievable spermatozoa, such as those with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). In recent years, artificial gametogenesis has emerged as a promising avenue for fertility restoration, driven by advances in two complementary strategies: organotypic in vitro spermatogenesis (IVS), which aims to complete spermatogenesis ex vivo using native testicular tissue, and in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), which seeks to generate male gametes de novo from pluripotent or reprogrammed somatic stem cells. To evaluate the current landscape and future potential of these approaches, a narrative, semi-systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus for the period January 2010 to February 2025. Additionally, landmark studies published prior to 2010 that contributed foundational knowledge in spermatogenesis and testicular tissue modeling were reviewed to provide historical context. This narrative review synthesizes multidisciplinary evidence from cell biology, tissue engineering, and translational medicine to benchmark IVS and IVG technologies against species-specific developmental milestones, ranging from rodent models to non-human primates and emerging human systems. Key challenges—such as the reconstitution of the blood–testis barrier, stage-specific endocrine signaling, and epigenetic reprogramming—are discussed alongside critical performance metrics of various platforms, including air–liquid interface slice cultures, three-dimensional organoids, microfluidic “testis-on-chip” devices, and stem cell-derived gametogenic protocols. Particular attention is given to clinical applicability in contexts such as NOA, oncofertility preservation in prepubertal patients, genetic syndromes, and reprocutive scenarios involving same-sex or unpartnered individuals. Safety, regulatory, and ethical considerations are critically appraised, and a translational framework is outlined that emphasizes biomimetic scaffold design, multi-omics-guided media optimization, and rigorous genomic and epigenomic quality control. While the generation of functionally mature sperm in vitro remains unachieved, converging progress in animal models and early human systems suggests that clinically revelant IVS and IVG applications are approaching feasibility, offering a paradigm shift in reproductive medicine. The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens (WA, USA) presented a unique opportunity to observe primary succession in a post-eruption landscape previously dominated by conifer forests. The eruption scoured soil and biological communities adjacent to the mountain, and species of conifers have generally been slow to colonize the nutrient-poor substrate surrounding the volcano. Further, different species of conifer establish and grow at different rates. The recent advancement of conifers in the post-eruption landscape has highlighted a research gap related to conifer growth patterns. We measured the height, age, and incremental growth of 472 trees representing three common conifers, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Abies procera, and Pinus contorta, on debris avalanche (80 sites) and pyroclastic flow (82 sites) disturbance zones of the 1980 eruption. We paired annual incremental growth with recent climate data. We found that height, age, and growth rates differ among species and sites. All species had higher growth rates on the debris avalanche deposit compared to the pyroclastic flow due to either climate or substrate. Climate influences were mixed, where one species increased growth with temperature, another declined, and another was unrelated. Nevertheless, more than 40 years after the eruption, we find rapid height growth in species with implications for future forests. Full article

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a prevalent and often underdiagnosed genetic cardiac disorder characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy and, in many cases, dynamic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO). The development of cardiac myosin inhibitors (CMIs) represents an emerging therapeutic approach in the pharmacological management of obstructive HCM (oHCM). This review offers an integrated and up-to-date synthesis of the cardiac myosin inhibitor class, with a focus on mavacamten, aficamten, and the broader landscape of emerging agents. It also highlights recent clinical trial outcomes, pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic considerations, and potential future directions in therapy. Furthermore, we incorporate the most recent data up to May 2025, including late-breaking trial results and real-world safety findings, aiming to provide clinicians with a practical and comprehensive perspective on this evolving drug class. A narrative review was conducted by systematically searching PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ClinicalTrials.gov for English-language articles and trials published between January 2016 and May 2025. Keywords included “cardiac myosin inhibitor”, mavacamten”, “aficamten”, “MYK-224”, and “hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.” Inclusion criteria encompassed clinical trials and comprehensive reviews specifically addressing CMIs in cardiac applications. CMIs such as mavacamten and aficamten have demonstrated significant clinical benefits in reducing LVOT gradients, improving exercise capacity, and alleviating symptoms in patients with oHCM. Mavacamten is currently approved for clinical use, while aficamten is in advanced regulatory review. Comparative data suggest potential advantages of aficamten in the onset of action, pharmacokinetic profile, and tolerability. Emerging evidence supports the exploration of CMIs in pediatric populations, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and non-obstructive HCM (nHCM), although results are still preliminary. Cardiac myosin inhibitors offer a novel, pathophysiology-targeted approach to managing oHCM. While mavacamten has established efficacy, next-generation agents like aficamten may offer improved safety and versatility. Further long-term studies are needed to clarify their role across broader patient populations. Full article

The rapid increase in the global population of older adults presents a significant challenge, but also a unique opportunity to leverage technological advancements for promoting independent living and well-being. This study introduces the CIREI framework, which is a comprehensive model designed to enhance the integration of smart home and assistive technologies specifically for pre-frail older adults. Developed through a systematic literature review and innovative and comprehensive co-design activities, the CIREI framework captures the nuanced needs, preferences, and challenges faced by older adults, caregivers, and experts. Key findings from the co-design workshop highlight critical factors such as usability, privacy, and personalised learning preferences, which directly influence technology adoption. These insights informed the creation of an intelligent middleware prototype named WISE-WARE, which seamlessly integrates commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) devices to support health management and improve the quality of life for older adults. The CIREI framework’s adaptability ensures it can be extended and refined to meet the ever-changing needs of the ageing population, providing a robust foundation for future research and development in user-centred technology design. All workshop materials, including tools and methodologies, are made available to encourage the further exploration and adaptation of the CIREI framework, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness in the dynamic landscape of ageing and technology. This research contributes significantly to the discourse on ageing in place, digital inclusion, and the role of technology in empowering older adults to maintain independence. Full article
