This study aims to address the problem that traditional helical gears generate significant axial forces during transmission and innovatively proposes a design scheme of double helical face gears (DHFG). An accurate mathematical model of the tooth surface is established using spatial meshing theory and coordinate transformation. A systematic investigation using the orthogonal test method is then conducted to analyze the influence of key parameters, such as the pinion tooth number, transmission ratio, and helix angle, on gear performance. The finite element analysis results show that the overlap degree of this double helical tooth surface gear pair in actual transmission can reach 2–3, demonstrating excellent transmission smoothness. More importantly, its unique symmetrical tooth surface structure successfully achieves the self-balancing effect of axial force. Simulation verification shows that the axial force is reduced by approximately 70% compared to traditional helical tooth surface gears, significantly reducing the load on the bearing. Finally, the prototype gear is successfully trial-produced through a five-axis machining center. Experimental tests confirmed that the contact impressions are highly consistent with the simulation results, verifying the feasibility of the design theory and manufacturing process. Full article

We study unconventional multipole moments arising from noncollinear magnetic structures within an augmented framework encompassing electric, magnetic, magnetic toroidal, and electric toroidal multipoles. Employing a tight-binding model for an s-p hybridized orbital system, we analyze two spiral magnetic textures and classify the resulting multipoles according to magnetic point group symmetry. Different spiral wave types, such as cycloidal and proper-screw forms, activate distinct multipole components, with odd-parity multipoles emerging from local s-p parity mixing induced by magnetically driven inversion-symmetry breaking. Calculated multipole structure factors reveal finite-q peaks originating from higher-order magnetic-dipole-scattering processes and their characteristic couplings between Fourier components of the magnetic dipole texture. Our results demonstrate that magnetic ordering can generate parity-mixed states without intrinsic structural inversion asymmetry, offering new pathways to realize cross-correlation phenomena in functional magnetic materials. Background: The implant–abutment interface has been thoroughly examined due to its impact on the success of implant healing and longevity. Removing the abutment is advantageous, but it changes the biomechanics of the implant fixture and restoration. This in vitro three-dimensional finite element analytical (FEA) study aims to evaluate the distribution of von Mises stress (VMS) in abutment-free and three additional implant abutment connections composed of various titanium alloys. Materials and methods: A three-dimensional implant-supported single-crown prosthesis model was digitally generated on the mandibular section using a combination of microcomputed tomography imaging (microCT), a computer-assisted designing (CAD) program (SolidWorks), Analysis of Systems (ANSYS), and a 3D digital scan (Visual Computing Lab). Four digital models [A (BioHorizons), B (Straumann AG), C abutment-free (Matrix), and D (TRI)] representing three different functional biomaterials [wrought Ti-6Al-4Va ELI, Roxolid (85% Ti, 15% Zr), and Ti-6Al-4V ELI] were subjected to simulated static/cyclic static loading in axial/oblique directions after being restored with highly translucent monolithic zirconia restoration. The stresses generated on the implant fixture, abutment, crown, screw, cortical, and cancellous bones were measured. Results: The highest VMSs were generated by the abutment-free (Model C, Matrix) implant system on the implant fixture [static (32.36 Mpa), cyclic static (83.34 Mpa)], screw [static (16.85 Mpa), cyclic static (30.33 Mpa), oblique (57.46 Mpa)], and cortical bone [static (26.55), cyclic static (108.99 Mpa), oblique (47.8 Mpa)]. The lowest VMSs in the implant fixture, abutment, screw, and crown were associated with the binary alloy Roxolid [83–87% Ti and 13–17% Zr]. Conclusions: Abutment-free implant systems generate twice the stress on cortical bone than other abutment implant systems while producing the highest stresses on the fixture and screw, therefore demanding further clinical investigations. Roxolid, a binary alloy of titanium and zirconia, showed the least overall stresses in different loadings and directions. Full article

Burns represent a significant medical challenge, and the development of theoretical models has the potential to contribute to the advancement of new diagnostic tools. This study aimed to perform numerical simulations of the Pennes bioheat transfer equation, incorporating heat generation terms due to the body’s immunological response to thermal injury, as well as changes in skin thermal parameters and blood perfusion for each burn type. We propose the incorporation of specific parameters and boundary conditions related to multilayer perfusion into the Pennes bioheat model. Using the proposed layered skin model, we evaluate temperature differences to establish correlations for determining burn depth. In this investigation, 1D and 3D algorithms based on the finite volume method were applied to capture transient and spatial thermal variations, with the resulting temperature distributions demonstrating the ability of the proposed models to describe the expected thermal variations in healthy and burned tissue. This work demonstrates the potential of the finite volume method to approximate the solution of the Pennes biothermal equation. Overall, this study provides a computational framework for analyzing heat transfer in burn injuries and highlights the relevance of mathematical simulations as a tool for future research on infrared thermography in medicine. This study aimed to evaluate how different insertion angles of titanium orthodontic miniscrews (30°, 45°, and 90°) influence stress distribution and displacement in surrounding alveolar bone using three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA), with a focus on biomechanical outcomes at the titanium–bone interface. The 90° insertion angle generated the highest stress in cortical bone (58.2 MPa) but the lowest displacement (0.023 mm), while the 30° angle produced lower stress (36.4 MPa) but greater displacement (0.052 mm). The 45° angle represented a compromise, combining moderate stress (42.7 MPa) and displacement (0.035 mm). This simulation-based study was conducted between January and April 2025 at the Department of Orthodontics, Kocaeli Health and Technology University. A standardized 3D mandibular bone model (2 mm cortical and 13 mm cancellous layers) was constructed, and Ti-6Al-4V miniscrews (1.6 mm × 8 mm) were virtually inserted at 30°, 45°, and 90°. A horizontal orthodontic load of 2 N was applied, and von Mises stress and displacement values were calculated in ANSYS Workbench. Stress patterns were visualized using color-coded maps. The 90° insertion angle generated the highest von Mises stress in cortical bone (50.6 MPa), with a total maximum stress of 58.2 MPa, followed by 45° (42.7 MPa) and 30° (36.4 MPa) insertions (p < 0.001). Stress was predominantly concentrated at the cortical entry point, especially in the 90° model. In terms of displacement, the 90° group exhibited the lowest mean displacement (0.023 ± 0.002 mm), followed by 45° (0.035 ± 0.003 mm) and 30° (0.052 ± 0.004 mm), with statistically significant differences among all groups (p < 0.001). The 45° angle showed a balanced biomechanical profile, combining moderate stress and displacement values, as confirmed by post hoc analysis. From a biomimetics perspective, understanding how insertion angle affects bone response provides insights for designing bio-inspired anchorage systems. By simulating natural stress dissipation, this study demonstrates that insertion angle strongly modulates miniscrew performance. Vertical placement (90°) ensures rigidity but concentrates cortical stress, whereas oblique placement, particularly at 45°, offers a balanced compromise with adequate stability and reduced stress. These results emphasize that beyond material properties, surgical parameters such as insertion angle are critical for clinical success. Full article

This paper proposes a novel hybrid control strategy integrating a Finite Control Set Model Predictive Controller (FCS-MPC) with a universal droop controller (UDC) for effective load power sharing in inverter-fed microgrids. Traditional droop-based methods, though widely adopted for their simplicity and decentralized nature, suffer from limitations such as steady-state inaccuracies and poor transient response, particularly under mismatched impedance conditions. To overcome these drawbacks, the proposed scheme incorporates detailed modeling of inverter and source dynamics within the predictive controller to enhance accuracy, stability, and response speed. The UDC complements the predictive framework by ensuring coordination among inverters with different impedance characteristics. Simulation results under various load disturbances demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly outperforms conventional PI-based droop control in terms of voltage and frequency regulation, transient stability, and balanced power sharing. The performance is further validated through real-time simulations, affirming the scheme’s potential for practical deployment in dynamic microgrid environments. Full article

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), globally, cervical cancer ranks as the fourth most common cancer in women, with around 660,000 new cases in 2022. In the same year, about 94 percent of the 350,000 deaths caused by cervical cancer occurred in low- and middle-income countries. This paper focuses on the dynamics of HPV by modeling the interactions between four compartments, as follows: S(t), the number of susceptible females; I(t), females infected with HPV; X(t), females infected with HPV but not yet affected by cervical cancer (CCE); and V(t), females infected with HPV and affected by CCE. A compartmental model is formulated to analyze the progression of HPV, ensuring all key mathematical properties, such as existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness of the solution. The equilibria of the model, such as the HPV-free equilibrium and HPV-present equilibrium, are analyzed, and the basic reproduction number, R0, is computed using the next-generation matrix method. Local and global stability of these equilibria are rigorously established to understand the conditions for disease eradication or persistence. Sensitivity analysis around the reproduction number is carried out using partial derivatives to identify critical parameters influencing R0, which gives insights into effective intervention strategies. With appropriate positivity, boundedness, and numerical stability, a new stochastic non-standard finite difference (NSFD) scheme is developed for the proposed model. A comparison analysis of solutions shows that the NSFD scheme is the most consistent and reliable method for a stochastic fractional delay model. Graphical simulations are presented to provide visual insights into the development of the disease and lend the results to a more mature discourse. This research is crucial in highlighting the mathematical rigor and practical applicability of the proposed model, contributing to the understanding and control of HPV progression. Full article

This paper proposes an enhanced Model Predictive Direct Speed Control (MPDSC) framework for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives, integrating duty ratio optimization and load torque disturbance compensation to significantly improve both transient and steady-state performance. Traditional finite-control-set MPC strategies, which apply a single voltage vector per sampling interval, often suffer from steady-state ripples, elevated total harmonic distortion (THD), and high computational complexity due to exhaustive switching evaluations. The proposed approach addresses these limitations through a novel dual-stage cost function structure: the first cost function optimizes dynamic response via predictive control of speed error, while the second adaptively minimizes torque ripple and harmonic distortion by adjusting the active–zero voltage vector duty ratio without the need for manual weight tuning. Robustness against time-varying disturbances is further enhanced by integrating a real-time load torque observer into the control loop. The scheme is validated through both MATLAB/Simulink R2020a simulations and real-time experimental testing on a dSPACE 1202 rapid control prototyping platform across small- and large-scale PMSM configurations. Experimental results confirm that the proposed controller achieves a transient speed deviation of just 0.004%, a steady-state ripple of 0.01 rpm, and torque ripple as low as 0.0124 Nm, with THD reduced to approximately 5.5%. The duty ratio-based predictive modulation ensures faster settling time, improved current quality, and greater immunity to load torque disturbances compared to recent duty-ratio MPC implementations. These findings highlight the proposed DR-MPDSC as a computationally efficient and experimentally validated solution for next-generation PMSM drive systems in automotive and industrial domains. For fractals on Riemannian manifolds, the theory of iterated function systems often does not apply well directly, as these fractal sets are often defined by relations that are multivalued or non-contractive. To overcome this difficulty, we introduce the novel notion of iterated relation systems. We study the attractor of an iterated relation system and formulate a condition under which such an attractor can be identified with that of an associated graph-directed iterated function system. Using this method, we obtain dimension formulas for the attractor of an iterated relation system on locally Euclidean Riemannian manifolds, under the graph open set condition or the graph finite type condition. This method improves the one by Ngai and Xu, which relies on knowing the specific structure of the attractor. We also study fractals generated by iterated relation systems on Riemannian manifolds that are not locally Euclidean. Full article

The contraction method is a procedure that allows to establish non-trivial relations between Lie algebras and has had successful applications in both mathematics and theoretical physics. This work deals with generalizations of the contraction procedure, with a main focus on the so-called S-expansion method, as it includes most of the other generalized contractions. Basically, the S-expansion combines a Lie algebra G with a finite abelian semigroup S in order to define new S-expanded algebras. After giving a description of the main ingredients used in this paper, we present a Java library that automates the S-expansion procedure. With this computational tool, we are able to represent Lie algebras and semigroups, so we can perform S-expansions of Lie algebras using arbitrary semigroups. We explain how the library methods have been constructed and how they work; then, we give a set of example programs aimed to solve different problems. They are presented so that any user can easily modify them to perform their own calculations, without necessarily being an expert in Java. The Generalized Tempered Stable (GTS) distribution extends classical stable laws through exponential tempering, preserving the power-law behavior while ensuring finite moments. This makes it especially suitable for modeling heavy-tailed financial data. However, the lack of closed-form densities poses significant challenges for simulation. This study provides a comprehensive and systematic comparison of GTS simulation methods, including rejection-based algorithms, series representations, and an enhanced Fast Fractional Fourier Transform (FRFT)-based inversion method. Through extensive numerical experiments on major financial assets (Bitcoin, Ethereum, the S&P 500, and the SPY ETF), this study demonstrates that the FRFT method outperforms others in terms of accuracy and ability to capture tail behavior, as validated by goodness-of-fit tests. Our results provide practitioners with robust and efficient simulation tools for applications in risk management, derivative pricing, and statistical modeling. Full article

Background: Congenital talipes equinovarus (clubfoot) affects 1–2 per 1000 newborns worldwide. The Ponseti method, based on staged manipulations and casting, is the gold standard for correction. However, the biomechanical processes underlying these corrections remain poorly understood, as infants rarely undergo imaging. Computational modeling may offer a non-invasive approach to studying correction pathways and exploring novel applications, such as customized casts. Methods: We developed a proof-of-concept framework using iterative finite element analysis (iFEA) to approximate the surface-level geometric corrections targeted in Ponseti treatment. A 3D surface model of a training clubfoot foot was scanned, meshed, and deformed stepwise under applied computational loads. The model was assumed to be homogeneous and hyperelastic, and correction was quantified using Cavus, Adductus, Varus, Equinus, and Derotation angles. We also introduced a secondary adult leg 3D surface model to assess whether model simplification influences correction outcomes, by comparing a homogeneous soft tissue model with a non-homogeneous model incorporating bone structure. Results: In the training model, iFEA generated progressive deformations consistent with Ponseti correction, with mean angular deviations of ±3.2°. In the adult leg model, homogeneous and non-homogeneous versions produced comparable correction geometries, differing by <2° in outcomes. The homogeneous model required less computation, supporting its use for feasibility testing. Applied loads were computational drivers, not physiological forces. Conclusions: This feasibility study shows that iFEA can reproduce surface-level geometric changes consistent with Ponseti correction, independent of model homogeneity. While not replicating clinical biomechanics, this framework lays the groundwork for future work that incorporates clinician-applied forces, pediatric tissue properties, and patient-specific geometries, with potential applications in customized 3D-printed casts. Developing classical three-dimensional consolidation theories considers the small-strain assumption. This small-strain assumption is inappropriate when studying the consolidation process of soft or very soft clay layers. Instead, this study derives a novel generalized mathematical model describing a three-dimensional finite-strain consolidation process and applies the deep Galerkin method to deduce its novel numerical solution. Developing this mathematical model uses the Reynolds transport theorem to describe mass and momentum balances for clay grain and pore water phases. The governing equation is the sum of the resulting mass and momentum balance equations. Next, the deep Galerkin method is applied to train a deep neural network to minimize the loss function defined by the governing equation and available initial and boundary conditions. The unknowns are the average velocity, effective stress, and pore water pressure. Predicting consolidation settlements is implemented by updating the problem domain using the resulting average velocity. Beneficial from the deep Galerkin method, two real-world examples demonstrate that the current mathematical model provides accurate predictions of consolidation settlements caused by the self-weight of two very soft clay layers. The deep Galerkin method helps resolve ill-posed problems by fitting a family of fields constrained by sampling/regularization rather than physics if the physics is under-determined. Full article

The application of mechanical products in many situations involves linear motion. The cylinder head of an internal combustion engine (ICE), a mechanical product, contains intake and exhaust valves. These valves open or close using the linear motion converted by the camshafts rotated by the engine. A typical engine is operated with a single cam profile; depending on the engine rotation, there are areas where the cam profiles do not match, resulting in a poor engine performance. An intake and exhaust system with an actuator can solve this problem. In a previous study on this system, the geometry and processing during manufacturing were complex. Therefore, in response, a linear actuator operated by Lorentz force with a coil as the mover was designed in this study. Through an electromagnetic field analysis using the finite element method, a three-phase alternating current was applied to the coil, assuming that it would be used as a power source for a general inverter. Consequently, the thrust obtained in the valve-actuation direction was 56.7 N, indicating improved axial thrust over the conventional model. Full article

The integration of multiple renewable and storage units in electric vehicle (EV) hybrid energy systems presents significant challenges in stability, dynamic response, and disturbance rejection, limitations often encountered with conventional sliding mode control (SMC) and super-twisting SMC (STSMC) schemes. This paper proposes a condition-based integral terminal super-twisting sliding mode control (CBITSTSMC) strategy, with gains optimally tuned using an improved gray wolf optimization (I-GWO) algorithm, for coordinated control of a multi-source DC–DC converter system comprising photovoltaic (PV) arrays, fuel cells (FCs), lithium-ion batteries, and supercapacitors. The CBITSTSMC ensures finite-time convergence, reduces chattering, and dynamically adapts to operating conditions, thereby achieving superior performance. Compared to SMC and STSMC, the proposed controller delivers substantial reductions in steady-state error, overshoot, and undershoot, while improving rise time and settling time by up to 50%. Transient stability and disturbance rejection are significantly enhanced across all subsystems. Controller-in-the-loop (CIL) validation on a Delfino C2000 platform confirms the real-time feasibility and robustness of the approach. These results establish the CBITSTSMC as a highly effective solution for next-generation EV hybrid energy management systems, enabling precise power-sharing, improved stability, and enhanced renewable energy utilization.
