Allelic Variation of Helicobacter pylori vacA Gene and Its Association with Gastric Pathologies in Clinical Samples Collected in Jordan

Helicobacter pylori is a well-established causative agent of gastritis, peptic ulcers, gastric adenocarcinoma, and primary gastric lymphoma. It colonizes the human stomach and expresses numerous virulent factors that influence disease progression. Among these factors is the cytotoxin vacA gene, which encodes the vacuolating capacity of the cytotoxin and plays a key role in the bacterium’s pathogenic potential. This study investigated the allelic diversity of the vacA among H. pylori strains infecting patients in Jordan with various gastric conditions and examined potential associations between vacA s-and m- genotypes, histopathological and endoscopic findings, and the development of gastric diseases. Gastric biopsies were collected from 106 patients at two hospitals in Jordan who underwent endoscopic examination. The collected biopsies for each patient were subjected to histopathological assessment, urease detection using the Rapid Urease Test (RUT), a diagnostic test for H. pylori, and molecular detection of the vacA gene and its s and m alleles. The histopathology reports indicated that 83 of 106 patients exhibited gastric disorders, of which 81 samples showed features associated with H. pylori infection. The RUT was positive in 76 of 106 with an accuracy of 93.8%. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) targeting the 16S rRNA gene confirmed the presence of H. pylori in 79 of 81 histologically diagnosed cases as infected (97.5%), while the vacA gene was detected only in 75 samples (~95%). To explore genetic diversity, PCR-amplified fragments underwent sequence analysis of the vacA gene. The m-allele was detected in 58 samples (73%), the s-allele was detected in 45 (57%), while both alleles were not detected in 13% of samples. The predominant genotype combination among Jordanians was vacA s2/m2 (50%), significantly linked to mild chronic gastritis, followed by s1/m2 (35%) and s1/m1 (11.8%) which are linked to severe gastric conditions including malignancies. Age-and gender-related differences in vacA genotype were observed with less virulent s2m2 and s1m2 genotypes predominating in younger adults specially males, while the more virulent m1 genotypes were found exclusively in females and middle-aged patients. Genomic sequencing revealed extensive diversity within H. pylori, likely reflecting its long-standing co-evolution with human hosts in Jordan. This genetic variability plays a key role in modulating virulence and influencing clinical outcomes. Comprehensive characterization of vacA genotypic variations through whole-genome sequencing is essential to enhance diagnostic precision, strengthen epidemiological surveillance, and inform targeted therapeutic strategies. While this study highlights the significance of the vacA m and s alleles, future research is recommended in order to investigate the other vacA allelic variations, such as the i, d, and c alleles, to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of H. pylori pathogenicity and associated disease severity across different strains. These investigations will be crucial for improving diagnostic accuracy and guiding the development of targeted therapeutic strategies. Full article

Background: Neuropathic pain (NP), resulting from damage to the somatosensory nervous system, affects 7–10% of the global population and remains poorly managed despite available therapies. Smoking has been associated with increased pain severity and disease burden, yet its role in neuropathy/NP has not been systematically reviewed. This systematic review synthesizes the existing literature on smoking status and its relationship with neuropathy/NP incidence, prevalence, and severity. Methods: The review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and included studies that assessed smoking consumption, dependency, quantity, and cessation in individuals with neuropathy/NP. Summary estimates were stratified by exposure type, and pooled odds ratios and relative risks were calculated. Results: Across 62 studies comprising cohort, case–control, and cross-sectional designs, smoking was consistently associated with greater NP prevalence and pain severity. Smoking dependency was linked to increased incidence, while cessation was associated with reduced risk of NP. Despite considerable heterogeneity and risk of bias, particularly from subjective exposure measurement and inconsistent classification, this relationship remained statistically significant. Conclusions: Findings support the role of smoking as a modifiable risk factor in various etiologies of neuropathy/NP. Cessation may represent a low-cost, low-risk, low-tech adjunctive therapy; however, further robust cessation interventional trials are needed, particularly for less common infectious causes of chronic NP such as leprosy. Background: Traumatic adrenal injury (TAI) is a rare but significant condition that affects 2.5% of patients with thoracoabdominal trauma. The impact of adrenal hematoma volume on clinical outcomes remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate factors associated with morbidity and mortality in patients with TAI, with a particular focus on adrenal hematoma volume as a predictive marker. Methods: Retrospective data from patients with radiologically confirmed TAI between 2013 and 2023 was analyzed. Clinical, demographic, and radiological variables were reviewed. Hematoma volume was calculated from computed tomography (CT) imaging and analyzed using univariate and multivariate models. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was employed to evaluate its predictive accuracy. Results: Sixty patients were included in the study. The median hematoma volume was 16.0 cm3, with a predominance of injuries on the right side. The morbidity and mortality rates were 18.3% and 8.3%, respectively. Univariate analysis identified a lower Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, higher Injury Severity Score (ISS), and increased hematoma volume as significant factors. In multivariate analysis, hematoma volume and GCS score remained independent predictors of adverse outcomes. A volume threshold of >23 cm3 was associated with significantly higher morbidity and mortality (AUC = 0.80, 95% CI: 0.68–0.92). Conclusions: This study is the first to demonstrate that the volume of adrenal hematoma is an independent predictor of adverse outcomes in patients with traumatic adrenal injury. Integrating volume into clinical assessment may help identify high-risk patients requiring improved observation and management. Full article

Background: Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) may contribute to cardiac remodeling and consequently to an increased risk of heart failure and cardiovascular mortality in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). We aimed to assess cardiac changes following AVF creation and identify potential parameters associated with cardiac remodeling. Methods: In our prospective, single-center study, ESKD patients without significant pre-existing cardiac disease underwent 2D and 3D echocardiographic evaluation before and after AVF creation, along with AVF flow measurement. Cardiac remodeling was assessed using 3D indexed left and right ventricular end-diastolic volumes (LVEDVi, RVEDVi), while systolic function was assessed using longitudinal strain and 3D ejection fraction. Results: We included 20 patients (18 men; median age 73.5 years [IQR: 67–77]) with a mean AVF flow of 1140 ± 345 mL/min. At a median of 8.2 months (IQR: 7.3–9.3) following AVF creation, significant biventricular dilatation was observed: LVEDVi increased from 89 ± 14 to 97 ± 21 mL/m2 (p < 0.05) and RVEDVi from 80 ± 15 to 91 ± 18 mL/m2 (p < 0.05), while the systolic function of both ventricles did not change significantly. The right ventricle showed the most pronounced remodeling and it was independently associated with volume overload (p = 0.003) and elevated left ventricular filling pressure (p = 0.030), but not with AVF flow. Conclusions: Moderate AVF flow was associated with cardiac remodeling, primarily affecting the right ventricle. Fluid overload and left ventricular filling pressure were key factors associated with right ventricular remodeling, underscoring the need for careful fluid management and vascular access planning in ESKD patients. Background: Visual impairment (VI) continues to be a significant global public health concern, especially in underserved rural communities. Objectives: This study aims to assess the prevalence of VI and refractive errors, as well as to identify the causes and risk factors associated with VI in Duhknah, a rural area in Qassim Province, Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted in May 2024, included 929 participants aged 6–90 years from Duhknah, a rural area in Qassim Province, Saudi Arabia. Refractive errors (REs) were measured using a non-cycloplegic autorefractometer. Anterior and posterior eye examinations were performed using slit lamp biomicroscopy, direct ophthalmoscopy, and 90 D fundus biomicroscopy. VI was classified based on the International Classification of Diseases 11th revision (ICD-11), 2018. Results: The findings revealed that 671 (72.2%) participants had never undergone an eye examination. The overall prevalence of presenting VI was 370 (39.8%), comprising 21.6% with mild VI, 11.0% moderate, 4.1% severe, and 3.1% classified as blind. The prevalence of hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism was 20.6%, 36.9%, and 13.2%, respectively. Uncorrected REs were the most common cause of VI (81.4%), followed by amblyopia (13.5%) and cataracts (3.2%). Regression analysis showed that women had 1.58 times higher odds of VI (p = 0.001). Participants with eye examinations for one year or more had 3.64 times higher odds (p < 0.001). Additionally, the risk of VI was significantly lower among older participants (ages 18–90) compared to younger ones (ages 6–17), (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study found most participants had never had an eye exam, and VI was highly prevalent in the rural community. These findings underscore the need to strengthen primary eye care in rural Saudi Arabia. Regular vision screening, particularly for children, and better access to refractive services could significantly reduce VI and support the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Full article

Modern beef cattle reproductive management faces increasing challenges due to the growing global demand for beef. Reproductive efficiency is a critical factor determining the productivity and profitability of beef cattle operations. Optimal reproductive performance in a beef cattle herd is achieved when each cow produces one calf per year, maintaining a calving interval of 365 days. However, this goal is difficult to achieve, as the gestation period in beef cows lasts approximately 280 days, leaving only 80–85 days for successful conception. Traditional methods, such as visual estrus detection, are becoming increasingly unreliable due to expanding herd sizes and the subjectivity of visual observation. Additionally, silent estrus—where ovulation occurs without noticeable behavioral changes—further complicates the accurate estrous-based identification of the optimal insemination period. To enhance reproductive efficiency, advanced technologies are increasingly being integrated into cattle management. Sensor-based monitoring systems, including accelerometers, pedometers, and ruminoreticular boluses, enable the precise tracking of activity changes associated with the estrous cycle. Furthermore, infrared thermography offers a non-invasive method for detecting body temperature fluctuations, allowing for more accurate estrus identification and optimized timing of insemination. The use of these innovative technologies has the potential to significantly improve reproductive efficiency in beef cattle herds and contribute to overall farm productivity and sustainability. The objective of this review is to examine advancements in smart technologies applied to beef cattle reproductive management, presenting commercially available technologies and recent scientific studies on innovative systems. The focus is on sensor-based monitoring systems and infrared thermography for optimizing reproduction. Additionally, the challenges associated with these technologies and their potential to enhance reproductive efficiency and sustainability in the beef cattle industry are discussed. Despite the benefits of advanced technologies, their implementation in cattle farms is hindered by financial and technical challenges. High initial investment costs and the complexity of data analysis may limit their adoption, particularly in small and medium-sized farms. However, the continuous development of these technologies and their adaptation to farmers’ needs may significantly contribute to more efficient and sustainable reproductive management in beef cattle production. The Role of Vitamin D Supplementation in Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes: A Comprehensive Updated Narrative Review

Vitamin D has emerged as a modulatory factor in the pathogenesis and management of diabetes mellitus due to its influence on pancreatic β-cell function, immune regulation, and inflammatory pathways. This narrative review critically examines mechanistic and clinical evidence linking vitamin D status with type 1 diabetes (T1DM), type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and gestational diabetes (GDM). In T1DM, vitamin D’s immunomodulatory effects are thought to protect β-cells from autoimmune destruction; epidemiological studies associate vitamin D sufficiency with lower T1DM incidence and improved glycemic control, although causality remains under investigation. In T2DM, vitamin D deficiency is associated with worsened metabolic control and may contribute to disease development in at-risk individuals; however, it does not influence the initial onset of T2DM in patients who are already diagnosed. Intervention trials indicate that correcting the deficiency can modestly improve insulin sensitivity, β-cell function, and metabolic parameters. GDM has similarly been linked to hypovitaminosis D, with low maternal vitamin D levels associated with higher GDM risk and adverse perinatal outcomes; mechanistic insights suggest that adequate vitamin D supports glucose homeostasis in pregnancy, and emerging trials demonstrate improved insulin resistance with maternal vitamin D supplementation. Across these diabetes subtypes, maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels appears to confer metabolic benefits and may serve as an adjunct to current preventive and therapeutic strategies. However, definitive evidence from large-scale trials is required to establish optimal vitamin D supplementation protocols and confirm its efficacy in diabetes care. Full article

Exploring the Association Between Multidimensional Dietary Patterns and Non-Scarring Hair Loss Using Mendelian Randomization

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata (AA) impose significant psychosocial burdens. While pharmacological and surgical treatments exist, the role of dietary factors remains underexplored due to methodological limitations in observational studies. This Mendelian randomization (MR) study investigates causal relationships between 187 dietary exposures and hair loss, leveraging genetic variants to address confounding biases. Methods: Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from 161,625 UK Biobank participants were analyzed, focusing on food preferences and intake patterns. Genetic instruments for each of the 187 dietary exposures were selected at a genome-wide significance threshold (p < 5 × 10−8), with rigorous sensitivity analyses (MR-Egger, MR-PRESSO) to validate causality. Outcomes included AA and AGA datasets from the FinnGen consortium. Results: MR analysis identified 18 specific dietary exposures significantly associated with non-scarring hair loss (FDR < 0.05). Protective effects emerged for antioxidant-rich dietary exposures, represented by higher preferences for melon, onions, and tea. Elevated risks were observed for certain exposures, including croissants, goat cheese, and whole milk. Alcohol consumption exhibited the strongest risk associations. Our extensive analysis of alcohol intake, combining data from multiple studies, consistently identified it as a significant risk factor for both alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia. Conclusions: These findings imply modifiable dietary patterns in hair loss pathophysiology. A dual strategy is proposed: prioritizing polyphenol-rich plant foods while minimizing pro-inflammatory triggers like processed carbohydrates and alcohol. Clinically, tailored dietary adjustments—reducing ultra-processed foods and alcohol—may complement existing therapies for hair loss management. Full article

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant factor affecting prognosis and functional capacity in patients after cardiovascular events. This study aimed to assess the impact of coexisting diabetes on exercise tolerance and hemodynamic parameters in patients qualified for cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: A total of 452 patients (86 women, 366 men; mean age 63.21 ± 7.16 years) who had experienced cardiovascular incidents, including 226 individuals with coexisting DM (DM group) and 226 age- (±1 year) and sex-matched individuals without DM (non-DM group), were included in the analysis. All participants underwent an exercise test using a bicycle ergometer. Clinical data, comorbidities, medication use, left ventricular ejection fraction, and exercise test parameters were evaluated. Results: Patients with DM displayed a higher number of comorbidities (4.29 ± 1.26 vs. 3.19 ± 1.30; p < 0.001), greater medication use (8.71 ± 2.16 vs. 7.83 ± 2.05; p < 0.001), higher body mass (86.93 ± 13.35 kg vs. 80.92 ± 15.25 kg; p < 0.001), and a lower left ventricular ejection fraction (48.78 ± 8.99% vs. 50.01 ± 8.40%; p = 0.002) compared to those in the non-DM group. Diabetic patients also exhibited lower exercise capacity, expressed as peak power per kilogram of body mass (1.05 ± 0.27 W/kg vs. 1.16 ± 0.31 W/kg; p < 0.001). No significant differences were observed regarding absolute peak power or maximum heart rate. Conclusions: In patients after cardiovascular incidents, the presence of diabetes is associated with reduced relative exercise capacity and lower ejection fraction. Full article

Background and Objectives: Sarcopenic obesity, or the coexistence of sarcopenia and obesity, carries an additional load of health risks, including functional decline and metabolic disorders. Despite its increasing importance, data on Korean adults’ prevalence and risk factors are poor. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity, sarcopenia, and obesity to identify factors associated with each condition using the most recent nationally representative data. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed data from 4332 adults aged ≥ 40 years who participated in the 2022–2023 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Sarcopenia was defined using the appendicular skeletal muscle index (SMI) via bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and obesity by waist circumference per Korean criteria. Participants were categorized into four body composition groups. Complex sample logistic regression was used to identify factors independently associated with each condition. Results: The prevalence rates of sarcopenic obesity, sarcopenia-only, and obesity-only were 1.9%, 14.4%, and 35.5%, respectively. Sarcopenic obesity was significantly more common among older women with low education level, poor subjective health, diabetes, and low HDL-C. They were associated with older age, lower physical activity, lower education level, past smoking, and poor health condition. Obesity was associated with male sex, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and moderate-to-poor perceived health. Conclusions: Sarcopenic obesity, while less prevalent, is relatively uncommon and represents a high-risk phenotype associated with metabolic and functional deficits. These results highlight the importance of identifying vulnerable subgroups and implementing targeted strategies that address both muscle loss and adiposity in aging Korean adults. Full article

This study investigates the presence, origin, and associated ecological and human health risks of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils from uncultivated lands and beach sediments within the Yellow River Delta (YRD), China. The measured concentrations of 16 priority PAHs in soils spanned 24.97–326.42 ng/g (mean: 130.88 ng/g), while concentrations in sediments ranged from 46.17 to 794.32 ng/g, averaging 227.22 ng/g. In terms of composition, low-molecular-weight PAHs predominated in soil samples, whereas high-molecular-weight compounds were more prevalent in sediments. The positive matrix factorization (PMF) model results suggested that petroleum pollution and fuel combustion were the main sources of PAHs in soils, whereas the contribution in sediments was derived from petroleum and traffic pollution. The ecological risk assessment results indicated that there existed no obvious ecological risk of soil PAHs, but sediment PAHs could negatively impact the surrounding ecological environment, especially in the northern coastal beach area. In addition, soil PAHs posed no potential carcinogenic risk to humans. Further pollution prevention and management measures are required in this region to ensure the safety of the environment. Since its first appearance as a human pathogen in 1976, Legionella pneumophila has been identified as a causative agent of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). It survives in rivers, bays, lakes, and water reservoirs, and it is categorized as the fourth most common causative agent of CAP leading to hospitalization. We aimed to investigate patterns in which environmental, seasonal and regional factors may affect the prevalence of Legionnaires’ disease in Crete during the last two decades (2000–2022).The data used originated from the national surveillance database and included any person reported with travel-associated Legionnaires’ disease (TALD) between January 2000 and December 2022. Meteorological data were collected from the National Weather Service. The meteorological variables included (max) temperature (in °C), cloudiness (in octas), wind speed (in knots), and relative humidity (RH) (%). The statistical analysis was based on a case-crossover design with 1:1 matching characteristic. We revealed both seasonal and regional effects on the incidence of Legionnaires’ disease. Cases are significantly more frequent in autumn, in comparison to the other three seasons, while Rethymnon is the prefecture with fewer cases in comparison to Chania or Heraklion. In addition, our research showed that the majority of cases occurred during the years 2017–2018. TALD in Crete is significantly associated with temperature in °C and wind speed in knots. Our research suggests that temporal and spatial factors significantly influence disease cases. These results are in line with studies from foreign countries. The study results aspire to expand our knowledge regarding the epidemiological characteristics of Legionnaires’ disease in relation to local, geographical and meteorological factors on the island of Crete. Background/Objectives: Adolescence is a critical period for the early detection of metabolic syndrome (MetS), a condition that increases the risk of cardiometabolic diseases in adulthood. Timely identification of at-risk adolescents enables targeted prevention strategies. This study aimed to analyze the discriminative capacity and accuracy of six biochemical and/or anthropometric indices related to lipid metabolism and adiposity for the early detection of MetS in a sample of Spanish adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study carried out according to the STROBE guidelines. A sample of 981 adolescents aged 11–16 years old were randomly recruited from schools in Southeastern Spain. The presence or absence of MetS was determined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. The following biochemical and/or anthropometric indices were evaluated: triglyceride glucose index, visceral adiposity index, logarithm children’s lipid accumulation product, triglyceride glucose-body mass index, triglyceride glucose-waist circumference, and triglyceride glucose-waist-to-hip ratio. Results: The triglyceride glucose-waist-to-hip ratio and triglyceride glucose-body mass index parameters were the strongest indicators associated with MetS in boys and girls, respectively, after adjusting for several factors. Moreover, all evaluated indices showed optimal AUC values, with the visceral adiposity index and triglyceride glucose-waist circumference index exhibiting the highest discriminative capacity in both genders. Conclusions: The evaluated biochemical and anthropometric indices—particularly visceral adiposity index and triglyceride-glucose-waist circumference—show promise as accessible biomarkers for identifying adolescents at metabolic risk. These indices may serve as practical tools in preventive health strategies aimed at improving metabolic health by screening adolescents at risk of MetS, thereby helping to reduce the future burden of non-communicable diseases. Introduction: The combination of ceftazidime−avibactam (CAZ-AVI) with aztreonam (ATM) may be an option for the treatment of infections due to metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) producing bacteria, as recommended by current guidelines. MBLs protect the pathogen from any available β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor (BL/BLI). Moreover, in vitro and clinical data suggest that double carbapenem therapy (DCT) may be an option for such infections. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in two mixed intensive care units (ICUs) at the University Hospital of Larissa, Thessaly, Greece, and the General Hospital of Larissa, Thessaly, Greece, during a three-year period (2022−2024). Mechanically ventilated patients with bloodstream infection (BSI) caused by K. pneumoniae resistant to all BL/BLI combinations were studied. Patients were divided into three groups: in the first, patients were treated with CAZ-AVI + ATM; in the second, with DCT; and in the third, with antibiotics other than BL/BLIs that presented in vitro susceptibility. The primary outcome of the study was the change in Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score between the onset of infection and the fourth day of antibiotic treatment. Secondary outcomes were SOFA score evolution during the treatment period, total duration of mechanical ventilation (MV), ICU length of stay (LOS), and ICU mortality. Results: A total of 95 patients were recruited. Among them, 23 patients received CAZ-AVI + AZT, 22 received DCT, and 50 patients received another antibiotic regimen which was in vitro active against the pathogen. The baseline characteristics were similar. The mean (SE) overall age was 63.2 (1.3) years. Mean (SE) Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) and SOFA scores were 16.3 (0.6) and 7.6 (0.3), respectively. The Charlson Index was similar between groups. The control group presented a statistically lower SOFA score on day 4 compared to the other two groups [mean (SE) 8.9 (1) vs. 7.4 (0.9) vs. 6.4 (0.5) for CAZ-AVI + ATM, DCT and control group, respectively (p = 0.045)]. The duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU LOS, and mortality were similar between the groups (p > 0.05). Comparison between survivors and non-survivors revealed that survivors had a lower SOFA score on the day of BSI, higher PaO2/FiO2 ratio, higher platelet counts, and lower lactate levels (p < 0.05). Septic shock was more frequent among non-survivors (60.3%) in comparison to survivors (27%) (p = 0.0015). Independent factors for mortality were PaO2/FiO2 ratio and lactate levels (p < 0.05). None of the antibiotic regimens received by the patients was independently associated with survival. Conclusions: Treatment with CAZ-AVI + ATM or DCT may offer similar clinical outcomes for patients suffering from BSI caused by K. pneumoniae strains resistant to all available BL/BLIs. However, larger studies are required to confirm the findings. Full article

Cigarette smoking is acknowledged as the most preventable risk factor for thrombogenesis-associated cardiovascular disease. Mice prenatally exposed to the thirdhand smoke (THS) form of tobacco exhibited a higher tendency to develop occlusive thrombosis, along with enhancement of several platelet functional responses. Our objective was to investigate whether prenatal (in utero) THS exposure impacts the platelet transcriptome, resulting in enhanced platelet functional responses, thereby underlying THS-associated thrombogenicity. Blood samples obtained from twenty male mice prenatally exposed to THS, along with an equal number of age-matched male mice exposed to clean air (CA) as a control, were divided into pools of five animals and used to prepare leukocyte and red blood cell-depleted platelets. RNA sequencing for mRNA and microRNA (miRNA) was utilized to analyze and compare the platelet expression profiles of the two exposure groups. RNA seq analyses revealed distinct changes in both gene expression and miRNA profiles, with 448 coding genes and 18 miRNAs significantly altered between the two groups. miRNA–mRNA interaction analysis highlighted 14 differentially expressed miRNAs that potentially target 120 of the differentially expressed genes in our data set. Interestingly, altered genes in miRNA–mRNA pairs were functionally enriched into pathways associated with platelet physiology, including platelet activation, signaling and aggregation, and cellular response to chemical stimuli. Our findings establish—for the first time—that prenatal exposure to THS modifies the platelet transcriptome, thereby rendering platelets hypersensitive to stimuli and more prone to thrombogenicity. Additionally, we illuminate the coordinated function of platelet miRNA and mRNA targets in mediating this response. Full article
