Who Shapes What We Should Do in Urban Green Spaces? An Investigation of Subjective Norms in Pro-Environmental Behavior in Tehran

Understanding the social drivers of pro-environmental behavior in urban forests and green spaces is critical for addressing sustainability challenges. Subjective norms serve as a key pathway through which social expectations influence individuals’ behavioral intentions. Despite mixed findings in the literature regarding the impact of subjective norms on individuals’ intentions, there is a research gap about the determinants of this construct. This study was conducted to explore how social expectations shape perceived subjective norms among visitors of urban forests. A theoretical model was developed with subjective norms at its center, incorporating their predictors including social identity, media influence, interpersonal influence, and institutional trust, personal norms as a mediator, and behavioral intention as the outcome variable. Using structural equation modeling, data was collected and analyzed from a sample of visitors of urban forests in Tehran, Iran. The results revealed that subjective norms play a central mediating role in linking external social factors to behavioral intention. Social identity emerged as the strongest predictor of subjective norms, followed by media and interpersonal influence, while institutional trust had no significant effect. Subjective norms significantly influenced both personal norms and intentions, and personal norms also directly predicted intention. The model explained 50.9% of the variance in subjective norms and 39.0% in behavioral intention, highlighting its relatively high explanatory power. These findings underscore the importance of social context and internalized norms in shaping sustainable behavior. Policy and managerial implications suggest that strategies should prioritize community-based identity reinforcement, media engagement, and peer influence over top-down institutional messaging. This study contributes to environmental psychology and the behavior change literature by offering an integrated, empirically validated model. It also provides practical guidance for designing interventions that target both social and moral dimensions of environmental action. Full article

According to the United Nations Environment Programme reports, buildings are responsible for nearly 40% of energy-related emissions; therefore, energy-optimized building design is crucial to reduce the reliance on non-renewable energy sources as well as greenhouse gas emissions. The OECD reports indicate the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) as one of the effective strategies for decarbonization of buildings, since a 3D digital representation of both physical and functional characteristics of a building can help to design a more efficient infrastructure. An efficient integration of solar energy in building design can be vital for the enhancement of energy performance in terms of heating, cooling, and lighting demand. This paper presents results of an analysis of how factors related to the use of daylight, such as automatic control of artificial lighting, external shading, or the visual absorptance of internal surfaces, influence the energy efficiency within an example room in two different climatic zones. The simulation was conducted using Design Builder software, with predefined occupancy schedules and internal heat gains, and standard EPW weather files for Warsaw and Genua climate zones. The study indicates that for the examined room, when no automatic sunshades or a lighting control system is utilized, most of the final energy demand is for cooling purposes (45–54%), followed by lighting (42–43%), with only 3–12% for heating purposes. The introduction of sunshades and/or the use of daylight allowed for a reduction of the total demand by up to half. Moreover, it was pointed out that often neglected factors, like the colour of the internal surfaces, can have a significant effect on the final energy consumption. In variants with light interior, the total energy consumption was lower by about 3–4% of the baseline demand, compared to their corresponding ones with dark surfaces. These results are consistent with previous studies on daylighting strategies and highlight the importance of considering both visual and thermal impacts when evaluating energy performance. Similarly, possible side effects of certain actions were highlighted, such as an increase in heat demand resulting from a reduced need for artificial lighting. The results of the analysis highlight the potential of a simulation-based design approach in optimizing daylight use, contributing to the broader goals of building decarbonization. Full article

Recent theoretical and empirical studies highlight that information asymmetry and owner–manager conflict of interest can distort corporate investment decisions. Building on this premise, we hypothesize that superior environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance mitigates these frictions by (H1) alleviating financing constraints and (H2) intensifying external analyst scrutiny. To test these hypotheses, we examine all Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share non-financial firms from 2009 to 2023. Using panel fixed-effects and two-stage least squares with an industry–province–year instrument, we find that higher ESG performance significantly reduces investment inefficiency; the effect operates through both lower financing constraints and greater analyst coverage. Heterogeneity analyses reveal that the improvement is pronounced in small non-state-owned, non-high-carbon firms but absent in large state-owned high-carbon emitters. These findings enrich the literature on ESG and corporate performance and offer actionable insights for regulators and investors seeking high-quality development. Full article

Background: High-intensity gait training (HIT) is an evidence-based intervention recommended for stroke rehabilitation; however, its implementation in routine practice is inconsistent. This study examined the real-world implementation of HIT in an inpatient rehabilitation setting in Norway, focusing on fidelity, barriers, and knowledge translation (KT) strategies. Methods: Using the Knowledge-to-Action (KTA) framework, HIT was implemented in three phases: pre-implementation, implementation, and competency. Fidelity metrics and coverage were assessed in 99 participants post-stroke. Barriers and facilitators were documented and categorized using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Results: HIT was delivered with improved fidelity during the implementation and competency phases, reflected by increased stepping and heart rate metrics. A coverage rate of 52% was achieved. Barriers evolved over time, beginning with logistical and knowledge challenges and shifting toward decision-making complexity. The KT interventions, developed collaboratively by clinicians and external facilitators, supported implementation. Conclusions: Structured pre-implementation planning, clinician engagement, and external facilitation enabled high-fidelity HIT implementation in a real-world setting. Pragmatic, context-sensitive strategies were critical to overcoming evolving barriers. Future research should examine scalable, adaptive KT strategies that balance theoretical guidance with clinical feasibility to sustain evidence-based practice in rehabilitation. Full article

Within the Catholic liturgy and devotion, there exists a seemingly paradoxical notion of spirituality through materiality, religious practices that are equally tangible and intangible, concurrently present and absent. This paper explores the concept of ‘absent-presence’ in early modern Catholic devotional practices, with a focus on the Order of St John during the Counter-Reformation. Drawing on case studies from Malta and across the Hospitaller world, it investigates how religious materiality (sacred objects, spaces, and rituals) expresses divine agency. Anchored in the kinetic approach to religious history, the study examines how the movement of relics, the staging of processions, and the construction of sacred spaces fostered emotional and spiritual transformation among devotees. While belief may be elusive for historians, the devotional actions of the Hospitallers demonstrate a faith deeply intertwined with motion, matter, and memory as external forces that sought to move the soul through tangible forms. The shear tests are conducted on six precast segmental concrete beams (PSCBs) in this paper. A new specimen design scheme is presented to compare the effects of segmental joints on the shear performance of PSCBs. The failure modes, shear strength, structural deflection, stirrup strain, and tendon stress are recorded. The factors of shear span ratio, the position of segmental joints, and hybrid tendon ratio are focused on, and their effects on the shear behaviors are compared. Based on the measured responses, the shear contribution proportions of concrete segments, prestressed tendons, and stirrups are decomposed and quantified. With the observed failure modes, the truss–arch model is employed to clarify the shear mechanism of PSCBs, and simplified equations are further developed for predicting the shear strength. Using the collected test results of 30 specimens, the validity of the proposed equations is verified with a mean ratio of calculated-to-test values of 0.96 and a standard deviation of 0.11. Furthermore, the influence mechanism of shear span ratio, segmental joints, prestressing force, and hybrid tendon ratio on the shear strength is clarified. The increasing shear span ratio decreases the inclined angle of the arch ribs, thereby reducing the shear resistance contribution of the arch action. The open joints reduce the number of stirrups passing through the diagonal cracks, lowering the shear contribution of the truss action. The prestressing force can reduce the inclination of diagonal cracks, improving the contribution of truss action. The external unbonded tendon will decrease the height of the arch rib due to the second-order effects, causing lower shear strength than PSCBs with internal tendons. Full article

This article explores how the European Union (EU) promotes gender equality beyond its borders, situating the analysis within broader debates on external Europeanization and normative power. While most studies have examined the domestic impact of EU policies, this paper focuses on how gender equality norms are projected internationally and conceptually investigates the mechanisms involved in their diffusion. Drawing on existing theoretical literature, the article analyzes how EU-level normative strategies may interact with domestic political, institutional, and societal dynamics in third countries, often in complex and contested ways. Rather than providing empirical testing, the study identifies core mechanisms—such as strategic communication, partnerships, and funding tools—and reflects on their limitations and the role of local agency in interpreting or resisting EU-promoted norms. The findings highlight the difficulty of isolating EU influence from other international and transnational drivers of norm diffusion, and the need for caution in attributing policy shifts solely to EU action. The article concludes that a better understanding of these processes requires more attention to domestic contexts, as well as future empirical research to complement conceptual analyses of Europeanization in sensitive policy domains such as gender equality. Sales forecasting in make-to-order (MTO) production is particularly challenging for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) due to high product customization, volatile demand, and limited historical data. This study evaluates the practical feasibility and accuracy of statistical and machine learning (ML) forecasting methods in MTO settings across three manufacturing sectors: electrical equipment, steel, and office supplies. A cross-industry benchmark assesses models such as ARIMA, Holt–Winters, Random Forest, LSTM, and Facebook Prophet. The evaluation considers error metrics (MAE, RMSE, and sMAPE) as well as implementation aspects like computational demand and interpretability. Special attention is given to data sensitivity and technical limitations typical in SMEs. The findings show that ML models perform well under high volatility and when enriched with external indicators, but they require significant expertise and resources. In contrast, simpler statistical methods offer robust performance in more stable or seasonal demand contexts and are better suited in certain cases. The study emphasizes the importance of transparency, usability, and trust in forecasting tools and offers actionable recommendations for selecting a suitable forecasting configuration based on context. By aligning technical capabilities with operational needs, this research supports more effective decision-making in data-constrained MTO environments. Full article

Research on ecosystem carbon sequestration services and ecological compensation is crucial for advancing carbon neutrality. As a public good, ecosystem carbon sequestration services inherently lead to externalities. Therefore, it is essential to consider externalities in the flow of sequestration services. However, few studies have examined intra- and inter-regional ecosystem carbon sequestration flows, making regional ecosystem carbon sequestration flows less comprehensive. Against this background, the research objectives of this paper are as follows. The flow of carbon sequestration services between Henan Province and out-of-province regions is studied. In addition, this study clarifies the beneficiary and supply areas of carbon sink services in Henan Province and the neighboring regions at the prefecture-level city scale to obtain a more systematic, comprehensive, and actual flow of carbon sequestration services for scientific and effective eco-compensation and to promote regional synergistic emission reductions. The research methodologies used in this paper are as follows. First, this study adopts a meta-coupling framework, designating Henan Province as the focal system, the Central Urban Agglomeration as the adjacent system, and eight surrounding provinces as remote systems. Regional carbon sequestration was assessed using net primary productivity (NEP), while carbon emissions were evaluated based on per capita carbon emissions and population density. A carbon balance analysis integrated carbon sequestration and emissions. Hotspot analysis identified areas of carbon sequestration service supply and associated benefits. Ecological radiation force formulas were used to quantify service flows, and compensation values were estimated considering the government’s payment capacity and willingness. A three-dimensional evaluation system—incorporating technology, talent, and fiscal capacity—was developed to propose a diversified ecological compensation scheme by comparing supply and beneficiary areas. By modeling the ecosystem carbon sequestration service flow, the main results of this paper are as follows: (1) Within Henan Province, Luoyang and Nanyang provided 521,300 tons and 515,600 tons of carbon sinks to eight cities (e.g., Jiaozuo, Zhengzhou, and Kaifeng), warranting an ecological compensation of CNY 262.817 million and CNY 263.259 million, respectively. (2) Henan exported 3.0739 million tons of carbon sinks to external provinces, corresponding to a compensation value of CNY 1756.079 million. Conversely, regions such as Changzhi, Xiangyang, and Jinzhong contributed 657,200 tons of carbon sinks to Henan, requiring a compensation of CNY 189.921 million. (3) Henan thus achieved a net ecological compensation of CNY 1566.158 million through carbon sink flows. (4) In addition to monetary compensation, beneficiary areas may also contribute through technology transfer, financial investment, and talent support. The findings support the following conclusions: (1) it is necessary to consider the externalities of ecosystem services, and (2) the meta-coupling framework enables a comprehensive assessment of carbon sequestration service flows, providing actionable insights for improving ecosystem governance in Henan Province and comparable regions. Background: Selecting enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for complex port environments is a significant challenge. This study addresses a key research gap by identifying and prioritizing the critical factors for ERP selection within the strategic context of United Arab Emirates (UAE) ports, which function as vital hubs in global trade. Methods: A hybrid methodology was employed, first using the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) to validate thirteen challenges with five industry experts. Subsequently, the Relative Importance Index (RII) was used to rank these challenges based on survey data from 48 UAE port professionals. Results: The analysis revealed “Cybersecurity concerns” as the highest-ranked challenge (RII = 0.896), followed by “Engagement with external stakeholders” (RII = 0.842), and both “Process optimization” and “Technical capabilities” (RII = 0.808). Notably, factors traditionally seen as critical in other sectors, such as “Organizational readiness” (RII = 0.746), were ranked significantly lower. Conclusions: The findings indicate a strategic shift in ERP selection priorities toward digital resilience and external integration rather than internal organizational factors. This research provides a sector-specific decision-support framework and offers actionable insights for port authorities, vendors, and policymakers to enhance ERP implementation in the maritime industry. This paper introduces a new conceptual framework for interpreting urethral retro-resistance pressure (URP) as a dynamic, intra-procedural tool—ΔURP—for evaluating external urethral sphincter (EUS) engagement during injection therapy. With renewed interest in therapies that directly target the EUS, there is a critical need for real-time functional feedback at the site of action. This conceptual review re-examines URP in the context of emerging EUS-targeted treatments—such as bulking agents, regenerative injections, and neuromodulatory interventions—and proposes a dynamic model (ΔURP) to measure changes in sphincteric resistance as a functional biomarker during intervention. We review the anatomical, neurophysiological, and histological features of the EUS complex; trace the clinical rise and decline of URP; and compare its utility to conventional diagnostic tools. ΔURP, defined as the change in URP from baseline, is explored as an objective measure of EUS function. We outline its potential applications in guiding therapy, evaluating response, and standardizing outcomes across treatments. Conventional urodynamic measures fail to isolate distal sphincter function. In contrast, URP directly challenges the EUS and, when combined with imaging or procedural tools, may provide real-time feedback on sphincter engagement. When reframed as a dynamic, motion-based readout, URP may fill a critical gap in procedural urology—offering a physiologic signal of therapeutic engagement during EUS-targeted interventions. ΔURP has the potential to revive and repurpose a once-abandoned method into a clinically actionable biomarker for next-generation continence care. Full article

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a major clinical challenge due to its aggressive behavior and lack of targeted therapies. Accurate early prediction of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is essential for guiding personalized treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. In this study, we present an attention-based multiple instance learning (MIL) framework designed to predict pathologic complete response (pCR) directly from pre-treatment hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained biopsy slides. The model was trained on a retrospective in-house cohort of 174 TNBC patients and externally validated on an independent cohort (n = 30). It achieved a mean area under the curve (AUC) of 0.85 during five-fold cross-validation and 0.78 on external testing, demonstrating robust predictive performance and generalizability. To enhance model interpretability, attention maps were spatially co-registered with multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) data stained for PD-L1, CD8+ T cells, and CD163+ macrophages. The attention regions exhibited moderate spatial overlap with immune-enriched areas, with mean Intersection over Union (IoU) scores of 0.47 for PD-L1, 0.45 for CD8+ T cells, and 0.46 for CD163+ macrophages. The presence of these biomarkers in high-attention regions supports their biological relevance to NACT response in TNBC. This not only improves model interpretability but may also inform future efforts to identify clinically actionable histological biomarkers directly from H&E-stained biopsy slides, further supporting the utility of this approach for accurate NACT response prediction and advancing precision oncology in TNBC. Background/Objectives: Food allergy (FA) is a growing concern in pediatric care, requiring effective avoidance strategies and timely emergency responses. The role of caregivers is central to the daily management of FA. This study aimed to assess parental knowledge, preparedness, and behaviors regarding pediatric FA management, focusing on both prevention and emergency readiness. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from December 2024 to April 2025 through the SurveyMonkey® platform, promoted by the Italian Society of Pediatric Allergology and Immunology (SIAIP). The anonymous, structured questionnaire was distributed online and in two Italian university hospitals. A total of 129 fully completed responses from caregivers of children with FA were analyzed. The survey explored self-perceived knowledge, symptom recognition, preventive actions, emergency preparedness, and communication practices. Results: Only 9.3% of parents considered themselves “very informed,” while 54.3% reported limited or no knowledge. Just 16.0% recognized all symptoms of an allergic reaction, and only 24.0% could distinguish mild reactions from anaphylaxis. Notably, 67.4% reported not knowing how to respond to anaphylaxis, and 83.7% did not possess an epinephrine auto-injector. Preventive measures at home were inconsistently applied, and 41.1% took no precautions when eating out. Communication with external caregivers was often informal or absent. Only 33% updated physicians regularly. Conclusions: The findings reveal significant gaps in parental preparedness and highlight critical areas for educational intervention. Enhanced caregiver training, standardized communication protocols, and improved clinical follow-up are essential to strengthen pediatric FA management and safety. Full article

The accelerated transformations in the education system marked by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) require a rethinking of pedagogical approaches. The VUCA environment requires a new educational management system in line with new technological trends in order to respond effectively to all the internal and external factors that may affect the quality of teaching. A particularly important course of action is updating teaching methods by combining traditional teaching methods with new interactive methods that promote the introduction of certain digital applications during the teaching of new topics. In this sense, the quantitative research carried out in the present study among second-year students from the psycho-pedagogical program organized by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania, has highlighted the fact that innovative teaching methods are more effective, contributing to the development of personality and communication skills among pupils and students. Also, the results obtained after applying the Mann–Whitney test showed that there is a significant difference between students involved in different educational activities and those who do not have contact with the educational environment in terms of perceiving the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of the educational environment. At the same time, in the context of the VUCA world, in order to ensure the effectiveness of the teaching–learning process, teachers need to develop new skills such as stress management, adaptability, creativity, technological skills, and time management. Addressing the specific competencies that teachers need to acquire in order to improve their teaching and to respond effectively to the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity in education, this study contributes to the creation of a sustainable education system, which is able to cope with all transformations (technological, legislative, socio-economic, etc.). Explainability and interpretability have emerged as essential considerations in machine learning, particularly as models become more complex and integral to a wide range of applications. In response to increasing concerns over opaque “black-box” solutions, the literature has seen a shift toward two distinct yet often conflated paradigms: explainable AI (XAI), which refers to post hoc techniques that provide external explanations for model predictions, and interpretable AI, which emphasizes models whose internal mechanisms are understandable by design. Meanwhile, the phenomenon of concept and data drift—where models lose relevance due to evolving conditions—demands renewed attention. High-impact events, such as financial crises or natural disasters, have highlighted the need for robust interpretable or explainable models capable of adapting to changing circumstances. Against this backdrop, our systematic review aims to consolidate current research on explainability and interpretability with a focus on concept and data drift. We gather a comprehensive range of proposed models, available datasets, and other technical aspects. By synthesizing these diverse resources into a clear taxonomy, we intend to provide researchers and practitioners with actionable insights and guidance for model selection, implementation, and ongoing evaluation. Ultimately, this work aspires to serve as a practical roadmap for future studies, fostering further advancements in transparent, adaptable machine learning systems that can meet the evolving needs of real-world applications.
