Background: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is increasingly used for managing cuff tear arthropathy, osteoarthritis, complex fractures, and revision procedures. As the demand for surgical precision and reproducibility grows, immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and metaverse-based platforms are being explored for surgical training, intraoperative guidance, and rehabilitation. While early data suggest potential benefits, a focused synthesis specific to RTSA is lacking. Methods: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases was performed through 30 May 2025. Eligible studies included those evaluating immersive technologies in the context of RTSA for skill acquisition or intraoperative guidance. Only peer-reviewed articles published in English were included. Data were synthesized narratively due to heterogeneity in study design and outcome metrics. Results: Out of 628 records screened, 21 studies met the inclusion criteria. Five studies evaluated immersive VR for surgical training: four randomized controlled trials and one retrospective case series. VR training improved procedural efficiency and showed non-inferiority to cadaveric training. Sixteen studies investigated intraoperative navigation or AR guidance. Clinical and cadaveric studies consistently reported improved accuracy in glenoid baseplate positioning with reduced angular and linear deviations in postoperative controls as compared to preoperative planning. Conclusions: Immersive technologies show promise in enhancing training, intraoperative accuracy, and procedural consistency in RTSA. VR and AR platforms may support standardized surgical education and precision-based practice, but their broad clinical impact remains limited by small sample sizes, heterogeneous methodologies, and limited long-term outcomes. Further multicenter trials with standardized endpoints and cost-effectiveness analyses are warranted. Postoperative rehabilitation using immersive technologies in RTSA remains underexplored and presents an opportunity for future research. Full article

In response to the growing demand for clean-label preservatives, this study investigates the potential of Laetiporus sulphureus, an edible polypore mushroom, as a multifunctional additive in cooked sausages. The ethanolic extract of L. sulphureus (LsEtOH) was evaluated for its chemical composition, antioxidant capacity, and antimicrobial activity. Leucine (12.4 ± 0.31 mg/g d.w.) and linoleic acid (68.6%) were identified as the dominant essential amino acid and fatty acid. LsEtOH exhibited strong antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 215 ± 0.05 µg/mL (DPPH•), 182 ± 0.40 µg/mL (NO•), and 11.4 ± 0.01 µg/mL (OH•), and showed a selective inhibition of Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus (MIC/MBC: 0.31/0.62 mg/mL). In cooked sausages treated with 0.05 mg/kg of LsEtOH, lipid peroxidation was reduced (TBARS: 0.26 mg MDA/kg compared to 0.36 mg MDA/kg in the control), microbial growth was suppressed (33.3 ± 15.2 CFU/g in the treated sample compared to 43.3 ± 5.7 CFU/g in the control group), and color and pH were stabilized over 30 days. A sensory evaluation revealed minor flavor deviations due to the extract’s inherent aroma. Encapsulation and consumer education are recommended to enhance acceptance. This is the first study to demonstrate the efficacy of L. sulphureus extract as a natural preservative in a meat matrix, supporting its application as a clean-label additive for shelf life and safety improvement. Early-career teachers (ECTs) entered the profession during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that introduced unique stressors to an already-demanding career phase. This systematic review examines empirical studies published between 2020 and February 2025 to explore how the pandemic influenced ECT wellbeing, with particular attention to stressors and protective factors impacting long-term retention and professional sustainability. Guided by PRISMA protocols, databases including Web of Science, ERIC, Google Scholar, and Scopus were searched, screening 470 records and identifying 30 studies that met inclusion criteria: peer-reviewed, empirical, focused on early-career teachers (within the first five years), and situated in or explicitly addressing the pandemic and its ongoing impacts. The results of Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis (2006) revealed that pandemic-related challenges such as increased workload, professional isolation, disrupted induction processes, and emotional strain have persisted into the post-pandemic era, contributing to sustained risks of burnout and attrition. Regardless, protective factors identified during the pandemic—including high-quality mentoring, structured induction programmes, collegial support, professional autonomy, and effective individual coping strategies—continue to offer essential support, enhancing resilience and professional wellbeing. These findings underscore the necessity of institutionalising targeted supports to address the enduring effects of pandemic-related stressors on ECT wellbeing. By prioritising sustained mental health initiatives and structural supports, education systems can effectively mitigate long-term impacts and improve retention outcomes for early-career teachers in a post-pandemic educational landscape. This study investigates the evolving pedagogical strategies and professional identity development of two novice college English teachers in China through a semester-long classroom-based inquiry. Drawing on Norris’s Multimodal (Inter)action Analysis (MIA), it analyzes 270 min of video-recorded lessons across three instructional stages, supported by visual transcripts and pitch-intensity spectrograms. The analysis reveals each teacher’s transformation from textbook-reliant instruction to student-centered pedagogy, facilitated by multimodal strategies such as gaze, vocal pitch, gesture, and head movement. These shifts unfold across the following three evolving identity configurations: compliance, experimentation, and dialogic enactment. Rather than following a linear path, identity development is shown as a negotiated process shaped by institutional demands and classroom interactional realities. By foregrounding the multimodal enactment of self in a non-Western educational context, this study offers insights into how novice EFL teachers navigate tensions between traditional discourse norms and reform-driven pedagogical expectations, contributing to broader understandings of identity formation in global higher education. Research highlights a growing demand for active, experiential learning methods in higher education, especially in teacher education. While the benefits of parental involvement (PI) are well-documented, Hungary lacks tools to effectively prepare teacher trainees for fostering family–school cooperation. This study addresses this gap by introducing a custom-designed board game as an innovative teaching tool. The game simulates real-world challenges in PI through a cooperative, scenario-based framework. Exercises are grounded in international and national research, ensuring their relevance and evidence-based design. Tested with 110 students, the game’s educational value was assessed via post-gameplay questionnaires. Participants emphasized the strengths of its cooperative structure, realistic scenarios, and integration of humor. Many reported gaining new insights into parental roles and strategies for effective home–school partnerships. Practical applications include integrating the game into teacher education curricula and adapting it for other educational contexts. This study demonstrates how board games can bridge theory and practice, offering an engaging, effective medium to prepare future teachers for the challenges of PI. Full article

Increased food production demands, labor shortages, and environmental concerns are driving the need for innovative agricultural technologies. However, effective adoption depends critically on aligning robot innovations with the needs of farmers. This paper examines the alignment between the needs of farmers and the robotic systems used in row crop farming. We review current commercial agricultural robots and research, and map these to the needs of farmers, as expressed in the literature, to identify the key issues holding back large-scale adoption. From initial pool of 184 research articles, 19 survey articles, and 82 commercial robotic solutions, we selected 38 peer-reviewed academic studies, 12 survey articles, and 18 commercially available robots for in-depth review and analysis for this study. We identify the key challenges faced by farmers and map them directly to the current and emerging capabilities of agricultural robots. We supplement the data gathered from the literature review of surveys and case studies with in-depth interviews with nine farmers to obtain deeper insights into the needs and day-to-day operations. Farmers reported mixed reactions to current technologies, acknowledging efficiency improvements but highlighting barriers such as capital costs, technical complexity, and inadequate support systems. There is a notable demand for technologies for improved plant health monitoring, soil condition assessment, and enhanced climate resilience. We then review state-of-the-art robotic solutions for row crop farming and map these technological capabilities to the farmers’ needs. Only technologies with field validation or operational deployment are included, to ensure practical relevance. These mappings generate insights that underscore the need for lightweight and modular robot technologies that can be adapted to diverse farming practices, as well as the need for farmers’ education and simpler interfaces to robotic operations and data analysis that are actionable for farmers. We conclude with recommendations for future research, emphasizing the importance of co-creation with the farming community to ensure the adoption and sustained use of agricultural robotic solutions. E-commerce growth has reshaped consumer behavior and retail services, driving parcel demand and challenging last-mile logistics. Existing research predominantly relies on survey data and global regression models that overlook intra-urban spatial heterogeneity in shopping behaviors. This study bridges this gap by analyzing e-commerce demand’s spatial distribution from a retail service perspective, identifying key drivers, and evaluating implications for omnichannel strategies and logistics. Utilizing waybill big data, spatial analysis, and multiscale geographically weighted regression, we reveal: (1) High-density e-commerce demand areas are predominantly located in central districts, whereas peripheral regions exhibit statistically lower volumes. The spatial distribution pattern of e-commerce demand aligns with the urban development spatial structure. (2) Factors such as population density and education levels significantly influence e-commerce demand. (3) Convenience stores play a dual role as retail service providers and parcel collection points, reinforcing their importance in shaping consumer accessibility and service efficiency, particularly in underserved urban areas. (4) Supermarkets exert a substitution effect on online shopping by offering immediate product availability, highlighting their role in shaping consumer purchasing preferences and retail service strategies. These findings contribute to retail and consumer services research by demonstrating how spatial e-commerce demand patterns reflect consumer shopping preferences, the role of omnichannel retail strategies, and the competitive dynamics between e-commerce and physical retail formats. Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, such as dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, autologous fat grafting, intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, are increasingly popular worldwide due to their convenience and aesthetic benefits. While generally considered safe, these procedures can result in rare but serious ophthalmological complications. The most catastrophic adverse events include central retinal artery occlusion and ischemic optic neuropathy, which may lead to irreversible vision loss. Other complications include diplopia, ptosis, dry eye, and orbital cellulitis, with varying degrees of severity and reversibility. Awareness of potential ocular risks, appropriate patient selection, and adherence to safe injection techniques are crucial for preventing complications. This narrative review summarizes the incidence, mechanisms, clinical features, risk factors, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies of ocular complications associated with aesthetic medical procedures. A narrative literature review was conducted, emphasizing data from clinical studies, case series, and expert consensus published between 2015 and 2025. Special attention is given to anatomical danger zones, the pathophysiological pathways of filler embolization, and the roles of hyaluronidase and hyperbaric oxygen therapy in acute management. Although many complications are self-limited or reversible, prompt recognition and intervention are critical to prevent permanent sequelae. The increasing prevalence of these procedures demands enhanced education, informed consent, and interdisciplinary collaboration between aesthetic providers and ophthalmologists. Full article

Early childhood forest and nature education plays a vital role in shaping values and promoting sustainability throughout life. Conceptualized in Denmark, forest and nature childcare groups have been established in Austria for over 20 years, contributing to mental well-being and supporting both Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). With increasing demand for childcare and a growing disconnect from nature—factors linked to physical and mental health challenges—there is a pressing need to expand these groups and integrate them into formal legal frameworks. This study examines the organization, staffing, infrastructure, risk prevention, and hygiene of 79 Austrian forest and nature kindergarten groups, identifying key areas of improvement to ensure safe access for all children, including those in public childcare. A semi-standardized online survey of 72 groups was analyzed using descriptive and statistical methods, including a Spearman correlation, Kruskal–Wallis test, Chi-square test, and ANOVA. Results revealed three main infrastructure types—house, container/trailer, and tipi—with houses offering the most comprehensive facilities. The ANOVA indicated significant effects of sponsorship type (p < 0.01), caregiver numbers (p < 0.001), and their interaction (p < 0.05) on half-day care costs. Currently, legal frameworks exist only in Tyrol and Salzburg. Broader access requires standardized infrastructure and risk assessment guidelines, collaboratively developed with stakeholders, to ensure safety and inclusivity in Austrian forest and nature childcare groups. According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 465 million individuals are affected by type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and could benefit from managing their condition with a high-quality diet based on proper, nutrient-rich food choices. A plant-based diet not only has health benefits but also helps mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but the Mediterranean diet has the most beneficial effect on overall health. In contrast, ultra-processed foods have a negative impact on T2DM outcomes. Reviewing the nutritional profile of different meals, snacks and desserts would be helpful in enhancing their quality, strengthening the role of dietitians and doctors and protecting against T2DM complications. This approach would also increase simplification and education for consumers. The PubMed-Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles published up to May, from 2000 (based on publication date). The results support the need to reinforce health claims and highlight public demand for food choices while also improving patient quality of life. Full article

Securing thermal comfort while minimizing energy consumption in educational buildings is vital for achieving sustainable development goals. Drawing on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, this systematic review synthesizes findings from 84 peer-reviewed studies published over the past decade, with a focus on how thermal comfort and energy use are assessed in educational contexts. The review identifies three primary research themes: climate resilience, multidimensional human-centric design, and energy decarbonization. However, it also reveals that existing studies have placed disproportionate emphasis on the environmental dimension, with insufficient exploration of issues related to social equity and governance structures. To address this gap, this study introduces an ESG-driven theoretical framework encompassing seven dimensions: thermal environment stability, multimodal thermal comfort assessment integration, sustainable energy use, heterogeneous thermal demand equality, passive–active design synergy, participatory thermal data governance, and educational thermal well-being inclusivity. By fostering interdisciplinary convergence and emphasizing inclusive stakeholder engagement, the proposed framework provides a resilient and adaptive foundation for enhancing indoor environmental quality in educational buildings while advancing equitable climate and energy strategies. This paper aims to discuss the transition of new graduate nurses into the workforce, the preparation provided to equip them through the novice–beginner stage, and the theory–practice conundrum. Background: In Australia, new graduate transition programs have been in existence since the 1990s. While there is widespread acknowledgment that this period is pivotal for new graduate nurses entering the profession, there is a lack of consensus on the definition of best practice to achieve optimal preparation for new graduate nurses transitioning into the workforce. Methods: This discussion paper integrates the nursing literature on this topic with the extensive professional experiences of the authors, who are currently working as clinicians in metropolitan hospitals and hold academic positions at universities. Their insights are informed by the literature sourced from peer-reviewed English language journals, including reviews, empirical studies, and national and international reports. Discussion: Recruiting and retaining nurses presents a multifaceted challenge that requires the development of effective tools and strategies to build a sustainable workforce. First-generation students can experience a cultural mismatch between their values and those that colleges and universities tend to prioritize. This mismatch can increase cognitive load, leaving fewer resources available for learning. Effective and long-lasting learning requires actively processing new information and connecting it to existing knowledge—an effort that demands significant cognitive resources. Value affirmation exercises, where students select and reflect upon values that are important to them, have shown promise in reducing cultural mismatch and improving performance on cognitive tasks. However, the impact of these exercises on the learning and recall of new information is less clear. The current study investigated whether a value affirmation exercise, completed before reading an educational passage, would improve memory recall for that passage in a sample of 400 first-generation and continuing-generation young adults, as compared to not affirming. Our results failed to provide evidence that value affirmation exercises impacted recall performance, regardless of whether participants affirmed independent values, interdependent values, or both. Given the importance and implications of this outcome for student learning, we discuss possible explanations for these null findings and suggest future directions in affirmation research. Traffic conditions are a key factor in our society, contributing to quality of life and the economy, as well as access to professional, educational, and health resources. This emphasizes the need for a reliable road network to facilitate traffic fluidity across the nation and improve mobility. Reaching these characteristics demands good traffic volume prediction methods, not only in the short term but also in the long term, which helps design transportation strategies and road planning. However, most of the research has focused on short-term prediction, applied mostly to short-trip distances, while effective long-term forecasting, which has become a challenging issue in recent years, is lacking. The team proposes a traffic prediction method that leverages K-means clustering, long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network, and Fourier transform (FT) for long-term traffic prediction. The proposed method was evaluated on a real-world dataset from the U.S. Travel Monitoring Analysis System (TMAS) database, which enhances practical relevance and potential impact on transportation planning and management. The forecasting performance is evaluated with real-world traffic flow data in the state of California, in the western USA. Results show good forecasting accuracy on traffic trends and counts over a one-year period, capturing periodicity and variation. Full article

Digital hoarding (DH) is an emerging behavior with potential implications for psychological well-being and daily functioning. While traditionally associated with physical hoarding disorder, DH presents unique challenges in digital environments, particularly among university students increasingly immersed in technology. This study examines the relationship between DH and academic performance, proposing a theoretical model in which academic engagement and academic burnout act as mediating mechanisms. Drawing on the Job Demands–Resources Theory, we provide evidence that DH contributes to a health impairment process that negatively affects student outcomes. Our findings reveal DH as a novel predictor of academic burnout, highlighting its detrimental impact on academic performance. These results carry significant theoretical and practical implications, offering new insights into the role of technology-related anxiety disorders in educational settings. From a practical perspective, our study underscores the need for higher education institutions to implement targeted interventions focused on emotional regulation and learning strategies to mitigate the negative effects of DH. Despite limitations related to sample specificity and cross-sectional data, this research opens avenues for future longitudinal studies and interventions aimed at addressing DH in both academic and professional contexts. By linking digital behaviors to mental health and performance, this work aligns with public health interests in understanding technology’s impact on youth well-being. Full article
