As digital marketing becomes more targeted and interactive, it is more critical to understand how young audiences perceive and react to compelling content. This research examines the extent to which consumer responses are affected by neuromarketing knowledge, interest, and screen-based advert exposure for middle school kids. Based on responses from 244 Greek adolescents aged 12–15 years, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to investigate direct and mediated influences on purchase intentions with advertisement skepticism and persuasion knowledge as mediating factors. Results indicate that exposure and recognition have a significant influence on intentions both by means of cognitive as well as attitudinal processes, while interest only increases skepticism but not interaction. Multi-group analysis yielded significant differences according to age and experience, referring to the development path of advertising literacy. The results provide strong cues to educators, policymakers, and marketers who want to develop media-critical competencies among adolescents in an ever-shaping digital age. Full article

Barrett’s esophagus (BE), a metaplastic transformation of an esophageal squamous epithelium into an intestinal-type columnar epithelium, is the primary precursor to esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Traditional management strategies have relied heavily on selective screening, tailored surveillance intervals, and early dysplasia detection and treatment algorithms. However, the heterogeneity in progression risk among BE patients necessitates a more nuanced, personalized approach involving precision care, tailoring decisions to individual patient characteristics, promises to enhance outcomes in BE through more targeted screening, personalized surveillance intervals, and risk-based therapeutic strategies. This review explores the current landscape and emerging trends in precision medicine for Barrett’s esophagus, highlighting genomic markers, digital pathology, and AI-driven models as tools to transform how we approach this complex disease and prevent progression to EAC. Objective: To systematically review the scientific literature on lysergic acid amide (LSA), focusing on its physical, neurobiological, and social effects, as well as its potential risks and therapeutic uses. Methods: A systematic review was conducted across PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science up to December 2023, using keywords such as “ergine,” “lysergic acid amide,” and “legal high.” Studies were included if they reported original human data on the physical, neurobiological, psychological, or social effects of LSA; seventeen studies were included. Animal studies, in vitro research, and non-original articles were excluded. Two independent reviewers screened and selected the studies, with a third resolving discrepancies. Data were extracted using a standardized form. The review followed PRISMA guidelines and was prospectively registered on the Open Science Framework. Results: LSA is primarily consumed through preparations made from the seeds of Convolvulaceae plants. Reported effects include euphoria, hallucinations, nausea, and anxiety. Severe adverse outcomes, such as psychosis, hypertension, and hospitalization, have also been documented. Some evidence suggests its potential therapeutic application for cluster headaches. However, variability in dosing and misinformation on digital platforms heighten the risks associated with LSA use. Conclusions: LSA poses significant health risks, exacerbated by online misinformation and variability in its effects, and a lack of scientific studies. Further research is essential to clarify its pharmacological profile, establish guidelines for safe use, and raise public awareness about its dangers. Full article

Background/Objectives: The use of digital technologies among children and adolescents has been increasing exponentially, raising concerns about the potential impacts on physical, mental, cognitive, educational, and social development. Understanding these effects is key to informing clinical and educational practices and public policies that promote digital wellbeing in childhood and adolescence. The main objective of this study was to map the latest available scientific evidence on the patterns of digital technology use by children and adolescents and its main impact, identifying risk factors, opportunities, and strategies for promoting digital wellbeing. Methods: A rapid review was carried out following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed studies published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese or English, that addressed the use of digital technologies by children and adolescents were included. The assessment of methodological quality was based on JBI’s Critical Appraisal Tools. Results: Ten studies from diverse contexts showed an association between excessive screen time and risks of sedentary lifestyles, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, attention difficulties, and low academic performance. Occasional benefits arose with adult mediation and educational use; parental mediation and socioeconomic background were key factors. Conclusions: The use of digital technologies is a complex and multifactorial phenomenon that requires integrated approaches; the promotion of digital literacy, public policies for equitable access to quality digital resources, and longitudinal and intercultural studies are recommended to clarify causal relationships and adapt interventions to local contexts. Autonomous earthwork machinery is gaining traction as a means to boost productivity and safety on space-constrained urban sites, yet the fast-growing literature has not been fully integrated. To clarify current knowledge, we systematically searched Scopus and screened 597 records, retaining 157 peer-reviewed papers (2015–March 2025) that address autonomy, integrated control, or risk mitigation for excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. Descriptive statistics, VOSviewer mapping, and qualitative synthesis show the output rising rapidly and peaking at 30 papers in 2024, led by China, Korea, and the USA. Four tightly linked themes dominate: perception-driven machine autonomy, IoT-enabled integrated control systems, multi-sensor safety strategies, and the first demonstrations of fleet-level collaboration (e.g., coordinated excavator clusters and unmanned aerial vehicle and unmanned ground vehicle (UAV–UGV) site preparation). Advances include centimeter-scale path tracking, real-time vision-light detection and ranging (LiDAR) fusion and geofenced safety envelopes, but formal validation protocols and robust inter-machine communication remain open challenges. The review distils five research priorities, including adaptive perception and artificial intelligence (AI), digital-twin integration with building information modeling (BIM), cooperative multi-robot planning, rigorous safety assurance, and human–automation partnership that must be addressed to transform isolated prototypes into connected, self-optimizing fleets capable of delivering safer, faster, and more sustainable urban construction. Developing a new drug costs approximately one to three billion dollars and takes around ten years; however, this process has only a ten percent success rate. To address this issue, new technologies that combine artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing can be leveraged in the pharmaceutical industry. The RSA cryptographic algorithm, developed by Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman in 1977, is one of the most widely used public-key encryption schemes in modern digital security. Its security foundation lies in the computational difficulty of factoring the product of two large prime numbers, a problem considered intractable for classical computers when the key size is sufficiently large (e.g., 2048 bits or more). A future application of using a detailed structural model of a protein is that digital drug design can be used to predict potential drug candidates, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for time-consuming laboratory and animal testing. Knowing the molecular structure of a possible candidate drug can provide insights into how drugs interact with targets at an atomic level, at significantly lower expenditures, and with maximum effectiveness. AI and quantum computers can rapidly screen out potential new drug candidates, determine the toxicity level of a known drug, and eliminate drugs with high toxicity at the beginning of the drug development phase, thereby avoiding expensive laboratory and animal testing. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory bodies are increasingly supporting the use of in silico to in vitro/in vivo validation methods and assessments of drug safety and efficacy. Comparative Diagnostic Efficacy of Four Breast Imaging Modalities in Dense Breasts: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

Background and Objectives: The aim of our study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of four imaging modalities—digital mammography (DM), digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), ultrasound (US), and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)—applied individually and in combination in early cancer detection in women with dense breasts. Methods: This single-center retrospective study was conducted from January 2021 to September 2024 at the Oncology Institute of Vojvodina in Serbia and included 168 asymptomatic and symptomatic women with dense breasts. Based on the exclusion criteria, the final number of women who were screened with all four imaging methods was 156. The reference standard for checking the diagnostic accuracy of these methods is the result of a histopathological examination, if a biopsy is performed, or a stable radiological finding in the next 12–24 months. Results: The findings underscore the superior diagnostic performance of breast MRI with the highest sensitivity (95.1%), specificity (78.7%), and overall accuracy (87.2%). In contrast, DM showed the lowest sensitivity (87.7%) and low specificity (49.3%). While the combination of DM + DBT + US demonstrated improved sensitivity to 96.3%, its specificity drastically decreased to 32%, illustrating as ensitivity–specificity trade-off. Notably, the integration of all four modalities increased sensitivity to 97.5% but decreased specificity to 29.3%, suggesting an overdiagnosis risk. DBT significantly improved performance over DM alone, likely due to enhanced tissue differentiation. US proved valuable in dense breast tissue but was associated with a high false-positive rate. Breast MRI, even when used alone, confirmed its status as the gold standard for dense breast imaging. However, its widespread use is constrained by economic and logistical barriers. ROC curve analysis further emphasized MRI’s diagnostic superiority (AUC = 0.958) compared with US (0.863), DBT (0.828), and DM (0.820). Conclusions: This study provides a unique, comprehensive comparison of all four imaging modalities within the same patient cohort, offering a rare model for optimizing diagnostic pathways in women with dense breasts. The findings support the strategic integration of complementary imaging approaches to improve early cancer detection while highlighting the risk of increased false-positive rates. In settings where MRI is not readily accessible, a combined DM + DBT + US protocol may serve as a pragmatic alternative, though its limitations in specificity must be carefully considered. Background/Objectives: Antibiotic resistance presents an urgent public health threat. By developing a streamlined and effective method for studying bacteriophage induction, this research marks a step further in understanding how antibiotic-resistant genes might spread across different environments. This knowledge is essential for creating strategies to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly from a One Health perspective. In this study, we develop and validate a Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)-based method as a proxy for bacteriophage induction. This method screens compounds for their potential to promote bacteriophage induction. Methods: This study utilized a recA-GFP construct in Escherichia coli to measure fluorescence as an indicator of SOS response activation. The experiments involved treating E. coli cultures with varying concentrations of the DNA-damaging chemical mitomycin C and measuring fluorescence over time. Additionally, droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) quantified bacteriophage induction in a lambda phage-carrying E. coli strain, allowing for correlation analysis between the two methods. Results: The recA-driven SOS response depended on both dose and time, with increasing concentrations of mitomycin C leading to higher fluorescence. ddPCR analysis confirmed that mitomycin C induced prophage activation, with gene ratios increasing at higher drug concentrations over time. A strong Spearman correlation (>0.7) was noted between fluorescence and ddPCR results at elevated concentrations and relevant time points, indicating the validity of the GFP-based model as a proxy for bacteriophage induction. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate a strong association between the two methods of measuring phage induction, suggesting that the GFP-based E. coli model is a reliable, cost-effective, and efficient tool for studying phage induction and its potential role in AMR spread. This method could facilitate the screening of environmental samples and specific drugs to evaluate their impact on bacteriophage induction, which opens the door for applications such as screening for antibiotic resistance dissemination. Although smart device use among children is increasing, most interventions overlook their cognitive and emotional development or rely too heavily on external control. Such approaches often overlook the developmental needs of children for emotional regulation and autonomy. Therefore, this study aims to propose a child-centred user experience (UX) framework to support digital self-regulation in preschool-aged children. The proposed system integrates multiple psychological theories—including Piaget’s concept of animistic thinking, executive function theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy—to support cognitive and emotional regulation during screen use. Key features include persistent visual cues to enhance time awareness and behavioural anticipation, narrative-based character interactions to foster empathy and agency, and ritualised closure routines supported by multimodal and tangible interaction elements. Developed as a mobile prototype, the system was iteratively refined through two-stage consultations with child and adolescent psychiatrists and a developmental psychologist, including formative design feedback and follow-up expert review. Their feedback provided preliminary validation of the system’s developmental validity and emotional coherence. These findings suggest that affectively attuned UX design is a viable alternative to conventional control-based screen-time interventions in early childhood. Full article

Background: Motor performance in childhood predicts physical fitness, cognitive capacity, socio-emotional development, and academic success. Parenting styles are especially important to such performance in the preschool period, as children’s gross motor abilities are shaped in part by their interactions with parents. Young children’s physical activity is also declining as they spend more time on screens. Methods: This quantitative survey-based study examined the relationships among 252 preschoolers’ gross motor skills, their tendency to become addicted to digital games, and their parents’ parenting styles. Results: The sampled preschoolers’ gross motor skill development and game addiction tendencies were both low, while the participating parents reported high levels of democratic and overprotective parenting attitudes, low levels of authoritarian ones, and moderate levels of permissive ones. Motor skills were not associated with children’s addiction tendency or parents’ democratic (also known as authoritative), authoritarian, or permissive styles. However, overprotective parenting was positively and significantly associated with gross motor skill scores. While no significant relationship was found between children’s digital game addiction tendencies and their parents’ adoption of a democratic parenting style, such tendencies were positively and statistically correlated with the authoritarian and permissive parenting styles. One dimension of such tendencies, constant gameplay, was also positively and significantly correlated with overprotective parenting. Conclusions: Although the participating children’s digital game addiction tendencies were low, the findings indicate that parents and carers should guide children to reduce their screen time and promote increased interaction with their surroundings and other people to mitigate screen time’s known negative effects on gross motor coordination. Background/Objectives: Mobile healthcare units (MHUs) comprise flexible, ambulatory healthcare teams that deliver community care services, particularly in underserved or remote areas. In Greece, MHUs were pivotal in epidemiological surveillance during the COVID-19 pandemic and are now evolving into a sustainable and integrated service for much-needed community-based healthcare. To support this expanded role, targeted, competency-based training is essential; however, this can pose challenges, especially in coordinating synchronous learning across geographically dispersed teams and in ensuring engagement using an online format. Methods: A nationwide, online training program was developed to improve the knowledge of the personnel members of the Hellenic National Public Health Organization’s MHUs. This program was structured focusing on four core themes: (i) prevention–health promotion; (ii) provision of care; (iii) social welfare and solidarity initiatives; and (iv) digital health skill enhancement. The program was implemented by the University of Crete’s Center for Training and Lifelong Learning from 16 January to 24 February 2025. A multidisciplinary team of 64 experts delivered 250 h of live and on-demand educational content, including health screenings, vaccination protocols, biomarker monitoring, chronic disease management, treatment adherence, organ donation awareness, counseling on social violence, and eHealth applications. Knowledge acquisition was assessed through a pre- and post-training multiple-choice test related to the core themes. Trainees’ and trainers’ qualitative feedback was evaluated using a 0–10 numerical rating scale (Likert-type). Results: A total of 873 MHU members participated in the study, including both healthcare professionals and administrative staff. The attendance rate was consistently above 90% on a daily basis. The average assessment score increased from 52.8% (pre-training) to 69.8% (post-training), indicating 17% knowledge acquisition. The paired t-test analysis demonstrated that this improvement was statistically significant (t = −8.52, p < 0.001), confirming the program’s effectiveness in enhancing knowledge. As part of the evaluation of qualitative feedback, the program was positively evaluated, with 75–80% of trainees rating key components such as content, structure, and trainer effectiveness as “Very Good” or “Excellent.” In addition, using a 0–10 scale, trainers rated the program relative to organization (9.4/10), content (8.8), and trainee engagement (8.9), confirming the program’s strength and scalability in primary care education. Conclusions: This initiative highlights the effectiveness of a structured, online training program in enhancing MHU knowledge, ensuring standardized, high-quality education that supports current primary healthcare needs. Future studies evaluating whether the increase in knowledge acquisition may also result in an improvement in the personnel’s competencies, and clinical practice will further contribute to assessing whether additional training programs may be helpful. This study investigates the impact of digital transformation on corporate tax avoidance in the banking industry, focusing on banks in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This study employs regression analysis on a sample of 123 banks in the MENA region, covering the period from 2011 to 2022. The results indicate a negative relationship between digital transformation and tax avoidance, with conventional banks showing a stronger inclination to adopt these trends compared to Islamic banks. Digital transformation is identified as an effective mechanism that enhances transparency and mitigates tax avoidance activities. Full article

Collaborative digital games and interfaces are increasingly used in both research and commercial contexts, yet little is known about how the spatial arrangement and interface sharing affect the user experience in dyadic settings. Using a two-player iPad pong game, this study compared user experiences across three collaborative gaming scenarios: face-to-face single-screen (F2F-OneS), face-to-face dual-screen (F2F-DualS), and remote dual-screen (Rmt-DualS) scenarios. Eleven dyads participated in all conditions using a within-subject design. After each session, the participants completed a 21-item user experience questionnaire and took part in brief interviews. The results from a repeated-measure ANOVA and post hoc paired t-tests showed significant scenario effects for several experience items, with F2F-OneS yielding higher engagement, novelty, and accomplishment than remote play, and qualitative interviews supported the quantitative findings, revealing themes of social presence and interaction. These results highlight the importance of spatial and interface design in collaborative settings, suggesting that both technical and social factors should be considered in multi-user interface development. Background/Objectives: Digital technologies have become increasingly integrated into the daily lives of children and adolescents, largely because their interactive and visually engaging design is particularly suited to the younger users. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this trend, significantly lowering the average age of access to the digital devices. However, scientific consensus remains divided regarding the developmental impact of digital media use—particularly its cognitive, motor, and emotional consequences—depending on whether the use is passive or active. This review aims to explore these effects across developmental stages, focusing on both behavioral and neurobiological dimensions, and to identify emerging risks and protective factors associated with digital engagement. Methods: A PRISMA review was conducted on the impact of digital media use among pre-school children and adolescents. Behavioral, psychosocial, and neurobiological aspects were examined, with specific attention to epigenetic changes, techno-stress, digital overstimulation, and immersive technologies (e.g., virtual and augmented reality). Results: The findings suggest that passive digital consumption is more often associated with negative outcomes, such as impaired attention and emotional regulation, especially in younger children. Active and guided use may offer cognitive benefits. Neurobiological research indicates that chronic exposure to digital stimuli may affect stress regulation and neural development, possibly via epigenetic mechanisms. Effects vary across developmental stages and individual vulnerabilities. Conclusions: A nuanced understanding of digital engagement is essential. While certain technologies can support development, excessive or unguided use may pose risks. This review provides age-specific recommendations to foster balanced and healthy technology use in children and adolescents. Full article

Validity Evidence of the TRIACOG-Online Administered In-Person to Adults Post Stroke

Background/Objectives: Neuropsychological assessment tools adapted for digital formats are crucial to expanding access and improving cognitive evaluation in post-stroke patients. This study aimed to examine the reliability, convergent validity, and criterion-related validity (concurrent and known-groups) of TRIACOG-Online, a computerized cognitive screening tool designed to assess multiple domains in post-stroke adults in person or remotely. Methods: 98 participants (47 neurologically healthy adults and 51 post-stroke patients) completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Mini-Mental State Examination—MMSE, G-38—Nonverbal Intelligence Test, and the TRIACOG-Online assessment. Evaluations were conducted in person, computer mediated. Results: TRIACOG-Online demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.872; McDonald’s ω = 0.923). Statistically significant differences were found between groups in episodic memory, attention, executive functions, and numerical processing, with healthy individuals outperforming post-stroke participants. Effect sizes were medium to large in several domains, especially for visual memory. Validity evidence based on the relationship with external variables was supported by negative correlations with age and positive correlations with education and reading and writing habits, particularly in the clinical group. Educational level showed stronger associations with verbal memory and language, suggesting a protective role in post-stroke cognitive performance. TRIACOG-Online scores demonstrated evidence of convergent validity with MMSE and G-38. Conclusions: TRIACOG-Online shows strong psychometric properties for the cognitive assessment of post-stroke adults. Its computerized format represents a promising tool for clinical and research use in neuropsychology, especially for bedside applications. Full article
