Main roads are usually equipped with traffic flow monitoring devices in the road network to record the traffic flow data of the main roads in real time. Three complex scenarios, i.e., Y-junctions, multi-lane merging, and signalized intersections, are considered in this paper by developing a novel modeling system that leverages only historical main-road data to reconstruct branch-road volumes and identify pivotal time points where instantaneous observations enable robust inference of period-aggregate traffic volumes. Four mathematical models (I–IV) are built using the data given in appendix, with performance quantified via error metrics (RMSE, MAE, MAPE) and stability indices (perturbation sensitivity index, structure similarity score). Finally, the significant traffic flow change points are further identified by the PELT algorithm. Full article

This article analyzes statistics on the failure of technological equipment, assemblies, and mechanisms of agricultural (and other) machines associated with the breakdown or failure of gear pumps. It was found that the leading causes of gear pump failures are the opening of gear teeth contact during pump operation, poor assembly, wear of bushings, thrust washers, and gear teeth. It has also been found that there is a problem related to the restoration, repair, and manufacture of parts in the conditions of enterprises serving the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan (AIC RK). This is due to the lack of necessary technological equipment, tools, and instruments, as well as centralized repair and restoration bases equipped with the required equipment. This work proposes to solve this problem by applying AM technologies to the repair and manufacture of parts for agricultural machinery and equipment. The study results on the stress–strain state of support bushings under various pressures are presented, showing that a fully filled bushing has the lowest stresses and strains. It was also found that bushings with 50% filling and fully filled bushings have similar stress and strain values under the same pressure. The difference between them is insignificant, especially when compared to bushings with lower filling. This means that filling the bushing by more than 50% does not provide a significant additional reduction in stresses. In terms of material and printing time savings, 50% filling may also be the optimal option. Full article

The problem of protecting 7075 Al alloy trekking poles from corrosion in complex outdoor environments was addressed using a composite conversion coating system. This system comprised Na2MoO4, NaF, CoSO4·7H2O, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-2Na, and H2(TiF6). The influences of this system on the properties of the coating layer were systematically studied by adjusting the pH of the coating solution. The conversion temperature and pH were the pivotal parameters influencing the formation of the conversion coating. The pH substantially influenced the compactness of the coating layer, acting as a regulatory agent of the coating kinetics. When the conversion temperature and pH were set to 40 °C and 3.8, respectively, the prepared coating layer displayed optimal performance in terms of compactness and protective properties. Therefore, this parameter combination favours the synthesis of high-performance conversion coatings. Microscopy confirmed the formation of a continuous, dense composite oxide film structure under these conditions, effectively blocking erosion in corrosive media. Furthermore, the optimised process led to substantial enhancements in the environmental adaptabilities and service lives of the components of trekking poles, thus establishing a theoretical foundation and technical reference for use in the surface protection of outdoor equipment. In manufacturing environments, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential to prevent workplace accidents. Despite this need, existing PPE monitoring methods remain largely manual and suffer from limited coverage, significant errors, and inefficiencies. This article focuses on addressing this deficiency by designing a computer vision desktop application for automated monitoring of PPE use. This system uses lightweight YOLOv8 models, developed to run on the local system and operate even in industrial locations with limited network connectivity. Using a Lean UX approach, the development of the system involved creating empathy maps, assumptions, product backlog, followed by high-fidelity prototype interface components. C4 and physical diagrams helped define the system architecture to facilitate modifiability, scalability, and maintainability. Usability was verified using the System Usability Scale (SUS), with a score of 87.6/100 indicating “excellent” usability. The findings demonstrate that a user-centered design approach, considering user experience and technical flexibility, can significantly advance the utility and adoption of AI-based safety tools, especially in small- and medium-sized manufacturing operations. This article delivers a validated and user-centered design solution for implementing machine vision systems into manufacturing safety processes, simplifying the complexities of utilizing advanced AI technologies and their practical application in resource-limited environments. Structural collapses caused by accidents or disasters could create unexpected radiation shielding, resulting in sharp gradients within the radiation field. Traditional radiation mapping methods often fail to accurately capture these complex variations, making the rapid and precise localization of radiation sources a significant challenge in emergency response scenarios. To address this issue, based on standard Gaussian process regression (GPR) models that primarily utilize a single Gaussian kernel to reflect the inverse-square law in free space, a novel multi-kernel Gaussian process regression (MK-GPR) model is proposed for high-fidelity radiation mapping in environments with physical obstructions. MK-GPR integrates two additional kernel functions with adaptive weighting: one models the attenuation characteristics of intervening materials, and the other captures the energy-dependent penetration behavior of radiation. To validate the model, gamma-ray distributions in complex, shielded environments were simulated using GEometry ANd Tracking 4 (Geant4). Compared with conventional methods, including linear interpolation, nearest-neighbor interpolation, and standard GPR, MK-GPR demonstrated substantial improvements in key evaluation metrics, such as MSE, RMSE, and MAE. Notably, the coefficient of determination (R2) increased to 0.937. For practical deployment, the optimized MK-GPR model was deployed to an RK-3588 edge computing platform and integrated into a mobile robot equipped with a NaI(Tl) detector. Field experiments confirmed the system’s ability to accurately map radiation fields and localize gamma sources. When combined with SLAM, the system achieved localization errors of 10 cm for single sources and 15 cm for dual sources. These results highlight the potential of the proposed approach as an effective and deployable solution for radiation source investigation in post-disaster environments. Full article

Despite rapid advances in robot learning, the coordination of closed-loop manipulation in cluttered environments remains a challenging and relatively underexplored problem. We present a novel two-level hierarchical architecture for a depth vision-equipped robotic arm that integrates pushing, grasping, and high-level decision making. Central to our approach is a prioritised action–selection mechanism that facilitates efficient early-stage learning via behaviour cloning (BC), while enabling scalable exploration through reinforcement learning (RL). A high-level decision neural network (DNN) selects between grasping and pushing actions, and two low-level action neural networks (ANNs) execute the selected primitive. The DNN is trained with RL, while the ANNs follow a hybrid learning scheme combining BC and RL. Notably, we introduce an automated demonstration generator based on oriented bounding boxes, eliminating the need for manual data collection and enabling precise, reproducible BC training signals. We evaluate our method on a challenging manipulation task involving five closely packed cubic objects. Our system achieves a completion rate (CR) of 100%, an average grasping success (AGS) of 93.1% per completion, and only 7.8 average decisions taken for completion (DTC). Comparative analysis against three baselines—a grasping-only policy, a fixed grasp-then-push sequence, and a cloned demonstration policy—highlights the necessity of dynamic decision making and the efficiency of our hierarchical design. In particular, the baselines yield lower AGS (86.6%) and higher DTC (10.6 and 11.4) scores, underscoring the advantages of content-aware, closed-loop control. These results demonstrate that our architecture supports robust, adaptive manipulation and scalable learning, offering a promising direction for autonomous skill coordination in complex environments. Transonic/supersonic wind tunnels are indispensable equipment for advanced aircraft to operate across subsonic, transonic, and supersonic regimes. The deformation of the flexible nozzle is the key to accurately controlling the Mach number of transonic wind tunnels. However, solving the deformation of flexible wall plates remains challenging due to the highly nonlinear relationship between wall loading and deformation, as well as the lack of simple yet effective mathematical models under complex boundary conditions. To accurately describe the deformation of flexible wall plates and improve computational efficiency, this study systematically investigates the deformation characteristics of flexible walls in two orthogonal directions and proposes an orthogonal beam function (OBF) model for characterizing small-deflection deformations. For large-deflection deformations in a flexible wall, an elliptic integral (EI) solution is introduced, and the OBF model is correspondingly modified. Experimental validation confirms that the OBF model effectively describes large-deflection deformations in a flexible wall. This research contributes to solving large-deflection deformation in flexible wall plates, enhancing both computational efficiency and accuracy. Full article

Technological roadmaps are essential tools for managing and planning complex projects, especially in the rapidly evolving field of space exploration. Defined as dynamic schedules, they support strategic and long-term planning while coordinating current and future objectives with particular technology solutions. Currently, the available methodologies are mostly built on experts’ opinions and in just few cases, methodologies and tools have been developed to support the decision makers with a rational approach. In any case, all the available approaches are meant to draw “ideal” maturation plans. Therefore, it is deemed essential to develop an integrate new algorithms able to decision guidelines on “non-nominal” scenarios. In this context, Politecnico di Torino, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Thales Alenia Space–Italia, developed the Technology Roadmapping Strategy (TRIS), a multi-step process designed to create robust and data-driven roadmaps. However, one of the main concerns with its initial implementation was that TRIS did not account for time and budget estimates specific to the space exploration environment, nor was it capable of generating alternative development paths under constrained conditions. This paper discloses two main significant updates to TRIS methodology: (1) improved time and budget estimation to better reflect the specific challenges of space exploration scenarios and (2) the capability of generating alternative roadmaps, i.e., alternative technological maturation paths in resource-constrained scenarios, balancing financial and temporal limitations. The application of the developed routines to available case studies confirms the tool’s ability to provide consistent planning outputs across multiple scenarios without exceeding 20% deviation from expert-based judgements available as reference. The results demonstrate the potential of the enhanced methodology in supporting strategic decision making in early-phase mission planning, ensuring adaptability to changing conditions, optimized use of time and financial resources, as well as guaranteeing an improved flexibility of the tool. By integrating data-driven prioritization, uncertainty modeling, and resource-constrained planning, TRIS equips mission planners with reliable tools to navigate the complexities of space exploration projects. This methodology ensures that roadmaps remain adaptable to changing conditions and optimized for real-world challenges, supporting the sustainable advancement of space exploration initiatives. The stable operation of electrical equipment is critical for industrial safety, yet traditional anomaly detection methods often suffer from limitations, such as high resource demands, dependency on expert knowledge, and lack of real-world capabilities. To address these challenges, this article proposes an unsupervised anomaly detection method for electrical equipment, utilizing audio latent representation and a parallel attention mechanism. The framework employs an autoencoder to extract low-dimensional features from audio signals and introduces a phase-aware parallel attention block to dynamically weight these features for an improved anomaly sensitivity. With adversarial training and a dual-encoding mechanism, the proposed method demonstrates robust performance in complex scenarios. Using public datasets (MIMII and ToyADMOS) and our collected real-world wind turbine data, it achieves high AUC scores, surpassing the best baselines, which demonstrates our framework design is suitable for industrial applications. Pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables pose a serious threat to food safety. Traditional detection methods have defects such as complex operation, high cost, and long detection time. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop rapid, non-destructive, and efficient detection technologies and equipment. In recent years, the combination of spectroscopic techniques and imaging technologies with machine learning algorithms has developed rapidly, providing a new attempt to solve this problem. This review focuses on the research progress of the combination of spectroscopic techniques (near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), hyperspectral imaging technology (HSI), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), and imaging techniques (visible light (VIS) imaging, NIRS imaging, HSI technology, terahertz imaging) with machine learning algorithms in the detection of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables. It also explores the huge challenges faced by the application of spectroscopic and imaging technologies combined with machine learning algorithms in the intelligent perception of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables: the performance of machine learning models requires further enhancement, the fusion of imaging and spectral data presents technical difficulties, and the commercialization of hardware devices remains underdeveloped. This review has proposed an innovative method that integrates spectral and image data, enhancing the accuracy of pesticide residue detection through the construction of interpretable machine learning algorithms, and providing support for the intelligent sensing and analysis of agricultural and food products. The results of this study highlight the effectiveness of the proposed semantic security detection framework, SSB, in identifying a wide range of vulnerabilities in smart contracts tailored for industrial control scenarios. Compared to existing tools like ZEUS, Securify, and VULTRON, SSB demonstrates superior logical coverage across various vulnerability types, as evidenced by its performance on smart contract samples. This suggests that semantic-based approaches, which integrate domain-specific invariants and runtime monitoring, can address the unique challenges of ICS, such as real-time constraints and semantic consistency between code and physical control logic. The framework’s ability to model industrial invariants—covering security, functionality, consistency, time-related, and resource consumption aspects—provides a robust mechanism to prevent critical errors like unauthorized access or premature equipment operation. However, the lack of real-world ICS validation due to confidentiality constraints limits the generalizability of these findings. Future research should focus on adapting SSB for real industrial deployments, exploring scalability across diverse ICS architectures, and integrating advanced AI techniques for dynamic invariant adjustment. Additionally, addressing cross-chain interoperability and privacy concerns could further enhance the framework’s applicability in complex industrial ecosystems. Full article

High-rise construction presents heightened safety risks due to vertical complexity, spatial constraints, and workforce variability. Conventional safety management often proves insufficient, especially in rapidly urbanizing or resource-limited settings. This study proposes a hybrid methodological framework to systematically identify and prioritize the critical factors influencing occupational safety in Vietnamese high-rise construction projects. Based on 181 valid survey responses from construction professionals, 23 observed variables were developed through extensive literature review and expert consultation. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was employed to empirically group 23 validated indicators into five key latent dimensions: (1) Safety Training and Inspection, (2) Employer’s Knowledge and Responsibility, (3) Worker’s Competence and Compliance, (4) Working Conditions and Environment, and (5) Safety Equipment and Signage. These dimensions were then structured into an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model, with pairwise comparisons conducted by industry experts to calculate consistency ratios and derive factor weights across three high-rise project case studies. The findings provide actionable insights for construction managers, safety professionals, and policymakers in developing and underdeveloped countries, supporting data-driven decision-making for safer and more sustainable urban development. This study addresses these limitations by using small unmanned aerial systems equipped with precision gas sensors to measure methane alongside co-released tracers. We tested whether arc-shaped flight paths and alternative ratio estimation methods could improve the accuracy of tracer-based emission quantification under real-world constraints. Controlled releases using ethane and nitrous oxide tracers showed that (1) arc flights provided stronger plume capture and higher correlation between methane and tracer concentrations than traditional flight paths; (2) the cumulative sum method yielded the lowest relative error (as low as 3.3%) under ideal mixing conditions; and (3) the arc flight pattern yielded the lowest relative error and uncertainty across all experimental configurations, demonstrating its robustness for quantifying methane emissions from downwind plume measurements. These findings demonstrate a practical and scalable approach to reducing uncertainty in methane quantification. The method is well-suited for challenging environments and lays the groundwork for future applications at the facility scale. Full article

The mixing of liquid–solid systems still poses a challenge in modern engineering. Numerical models often struggle to reliably describe the complex hydrodynamics in many aspects, such as the fundamental drag force model. In this article, an established experimental method is revisited. The method is newly modified through computer-aided image analysis for increased objectivity and repurposed for comparative experiments with numerical results to aid in model validation in practical engineering cases without the need for expensive equipment. The original method consists of measuring patterns forming in settled particles at impeller speeds below the just off-bottom suspension speed in a mixing tank with a flat transparent bottom. The use of mathematical p-norms to fully capture the emerging shapes is introduced here for the first time. Using this methodology, LES CFD results with different drag force models are quantitatively compared with the experimental findings. Full article

Industrial equipment fault diagnosis faces dual challenges: significant data distribution discrepancies caused by diverse operating conditions impair generalization capabilities, while underutilized spatio-temporal information from multi-source data hinders feature extraction. To address this, we propose a spatio-temporal collaborative perception-driven feature graph construction and topology mining methodology for variable-condition diagnosis. First, leveraging the operational condition invariance and cross-condition consistency of fault features, we construct fault feature graphs using single-source data and similarity clustering, validating topological similarity and representational consistency under varying conditions. Second, we reveal spatio-temporal correlations within multi-source feature topologies. By embedding multi-source spatio-temporal information into fault feature graphs via spatio-temporal collaborative perception, we establish high-dimensional spatio-temporal feature topology graphs based on spectral similarity, extending generalized feature representations into the spatio-temporal domain. Finally, we develop a graph residual convolutional network to mine topological information from multi-source spatio-temporal features under complex operating conditions. Experiments on variable/multi-condition datasets demonstrate the following: feature graphs seamlessly integrate multi-source information with operational variations; the methodology precisely captures spatio-temporal delays induced by vibrational direction/path discrepancies; and the proposed model maintains both high diagnostic accuracy and strong generalization capacity under complex operating conditions, delivering a highly reliable framework for rotating machinery fault diagnosis.
