Teacher education faces persistent challenges, including limited access to authentic field experiences and a disconnect between theoretical instruction and classroom practice. While virtual reality (VR) simulations offer an alternative, most are constrained by inflexible design and lack scalability, failing to mirror the complexity of real teaching environments. This study introduces TeacherGen@i, a generative AI (GenAI)-enhanced VR simulation designed to provide pre-service teachers with immersive, adaptive teaching practice through realistic GenAI agents. Using an explanatory case study with a mixed-methods approach, the study examines the simulation’s usability, design challenges, and instructional utility within a university-based teacher preparation course. Data sources included usability surveys and reflective journals, analyzed through thematic coding and computational linguistic analysis using LIWC. Findings suggest that TeacherGen@i facilitates meaningful development of teaching competencies such as instructional decision-making, classroom communication, and student engagement, while also identifying notable design limitations related to cognitive load, user interface design, and instructional scaffolding. This exploratory research offers preliminary insights into the integration of generative AI in teacher simulations and its potential to support responsive and scalable simulation-based learning environments. Immunomodulatory and Regenerative Functions of MSC-Derived Exosomes in Bone Repair

Bone integrity is maintained through continuous remodeling, orchestrated by the coordinated actions of osteocytes, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts. Once considered passive bystanders, osteocytes are now recognized as central regulators of this process, mediating biochemical signaling and mechanotransduction. Malfunctioning osteocytes contribute to serious skeletal disorders such as osteoporosis. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), multipotent stem cells capable of differentiating into osteoblasts, have emerged as promising agents for bone regeneration, primarily through the paracrine effects of their secreted exosomes. MSC-derived exosomes are nanoscale vesicles enriched with proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that promote intercellular communication, osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, and angiogenesis. Notably, they deliver osteoinductive microRNAs (miRNAs) that influence osteogenic markers and support bone tissue repair. In vivo investigations validate their capacity to enhance bone regeneration, increase bone volume, and improve biomechanical strength. Additionally, MSC-derived exosomes regulate the immune response, creating pro-osteogenic and pro-angiogenic factors, boosting their therapeutic efficacy. Due to their cell-free characteristics, MSC-derived exosomes offer benefits such as diminished immunogenicity and minimal risk of off-target effects. These properties position them as promising and innovative approaches for bone regeneration, integrating immunomodulatory effects with tissue-specific regenerative capabilities. Full article

Road networks are essential for access, resource distribution, and population evacuation during natural events. These challenges are pronounced in rural areas, where network redundancy is limited and communities may have social disparities. While traditional risk management systems often focus on the physical consequences of hazard events alone, specialized literature increasingly suggests the development of a more comprehensive approach for risk assessment, where not only physical aspects associated with infrastructure, such as damage level or disruptions, but also the social and economic attributes of the affected population are considered. Consequently, this paper proposes a Vulnerability Access Index (VAI) to support road network decision-making that integrates the social vulnerability of rural communities exposed to natural events, their accessibility to nearby critical infrastructure, and physical risk. The research methodology considers (i) the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) calculation based on socioeconomic variables, (ii) Importance Index estimation (Iimp) to evaluate access to critical infrastructure, (iii) VAI calculation combining SVI and Iimp, and (iv) application to a case study in the influence area of the Villarrica volcano in southern Chile. The results show that when incorporating social variables and accessibility, infrastructure criticality varies significantly compared to the infrastructure criticality assessment based solely on physical risk, modifying the decision-making regarding road infrastructure robustness and resilience improvements. Purpose: Following George Floyd’s death, the push for law enforcement accountability policies has intensified. Despite robust legislative action, challenges in enacting and implementing meaningful reforms persist. This study analyzes police accountability policies (PAP) in the U.S. from 2020 to 2022, identifying barriers and facilitators through expert perspectives in enforcement oversight, policy advocacy, and community engagement. Methods: The study used a dual approach: analyzing 226 police accountability bills from all 50 U.S. states, D.C., and Puerto Rico via the National Conference of State Legislatures database, and categorizing them into six key areas such as training, technology use, and certification. Additionally, a survey was conducted among experts to identify the challenges and drivers in passing police accountability legislation. Findings: A legislative analysis showed that although 48 states passed police accountability laws, California, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Colorado have made significant strides by passing multiple pieces of legislation aimed at enhancing law enforcement accountability and ensuring better policing practices. The most common policies focused on training and technology, enacted by 16 and 12 states, respectively. However, crucial certification and decertification policies were adopted in just 13 states, highlighting the inconsistent implementation of measures critical for police accountability and transparency. The survey identified several barriers to passing PAP, including inadequate support from local governments (72.7%). Structural exclusion of poor and minority communities from policing resources was also a significant barrier (54.5%). Facilitators included community support (81.8%) and a cultural shift in policing towards viewing officers as “guardians” rather than “warriors” (63.6%). Conclusions: While some progress has been made in passing PAP, considerable gaps remain, particularly in enforcement and comprehensive reform. Resistance from law enforcement institutions, lack of community support, and structural inequalities continue to impede the adoption of effective PAP. Full article

This paper presents a distributed measurement system intended to effectively monitor the health status of switchgears under varying temperature conditions. In particular, thermocouples are deployed as temperature sensors for the continuous monitoring of a medium-voltage (MV) switchgear. Then, by integrating a low-cost microcontroller unit, the proposed system can implement previously trained unsupervised learning techniques for health status evaluation. This approach enables the early detection of potential faults by identifying anomalous temperature patterns, thus supporting predictive maintenance and extending the lifespan of switchgears. The results show strong clustering performance with low execution times, highlighting the suitability of the method for resource-constrained hardware. Furthermore, onboard temperature processing eliminates the need for data transmission to remote servers, reducing latency and communication overhead while improving system responsiveness. The paper includes a numerical analysis on synthetic data as well as a validation on real measurements. Overall, the presented distributed measurement system offers a scalable and cost-effective solution to enhance the reliability and safety of MV switchgears. Full article

The orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) is a modulation designed to transmit data in high Doppler channels where the usage of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is challenging. The random padded OTFS (RP-OTFS) modulation, introduced recently, is an OTFS-like waveform optimized for more precise estimation of channel state information (CSI) and, in the case of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), for radar detection as well. One of the main drawbacks of the RP-OTFS is the high level of interference between carriers (the inter-carrier interference—ICI) of Doppler-delay (DD) grid. In the article, we optimize the RP-OTFS waveform in terms of reducing the level of pilot-to-data interference and also offer a way to reduce the data carrier interference. The reduction in the pilot-to-data interference is achieved due to the introduction of the following: (1) redistributing interferences along the DD grid, and (2) special DD grid configuration. In turn, the reduction in data carrier interference is achieved by extrapolating the estimate of channel state information. The proposed approach allows us to reduce the influence of the interference component and, as a result, to improve the probability of correct demodulation in the ISAC RP-OTFS system. Various DD grid configurations for different use cases from a radar point of view are considered in the article. The questions of choosing appropriate values of the DD grid parameters depending on the operating environment are also discussed here. In simulations, the ICI-reduced RP-OTFS is compared with its predecessor, the regular RP-OTFS, and classical modulations: OFDM and zero-padded OTFS, and benefits of its usage are shown: lower bit error rate (BER) of the transmission and higher detection probability of the radar detection. The rapid advancement of underwater wireless communication technologies is critical to unlocking the full potential of marine resource exploration and environmental monitoring. This paper reviews recent progress in three primary modalities: underwater acoustic communication, radio frequency (RF) communication, and underwater optical wireless communication (UWOC), each designed to address specific challenges posed by complex underwater environments. Acoustic communication, while effective for long-range transmission, is constrained by ambient noise and high latency; recent innovations in noise reduction and data rate enhancement have notably improved its reliability. RF communication offers high-speed, short-range capabilities in shallow waters, but still faces challenges in hardware miniaturization and accurate channel modeling. UWOC has emerged as a promising solution, enabling multi-gigabit data rates over medium distances through advanced modulation techniques and turbulence mitigation. Additionally, bio-inspired approaches such as electric field communication provide energy-efficient and robust alternatives under turbid conditions. This paper further examines the practical integration of these technologies in underwater platforms, including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), highlighting trade-offs between energy efficiency, system complexity, and communication performance. By synthesizing recent advancements, this review outlines the advantages and limitations of current underwater communication methods and their real-world applications, offering insights to guide the future development of underwater communication systems for robotic and vehicular platforms. To solve the present housing crisis, the Support for Access to Housing Program, in the context of PRR, mainly focuses on social housing to be built or on housing of social interest to be regenerated. To approach this problem, a research question was raised: “What is the significance of the existing cooperative housing in solving the current housing crisis?” To analyze this issue, a multiple case study was adopted, comparing a collective dwelling of cooperative promotion at controlled costs in Caselas (1980s–1990s) with Expo Urbe (2000–2007) in Parque das Nações, a symbol of the new sustainable cooperative housing, which targets a population with a higher standard of living and thus is excluded from the PRR plan. These cases revealed the discrepancy created by the Cooperative Code of 1998 and its consequences for the urban regeneration of this heritage. They show that Caselas, built in a residential urban neighborhood, is strongly attached to a community, provides good social inclusion for vulnerable groups at more affordable prices, and it is eligible for urban regeneration and reuse (for renting or buying). However, the reuse of Caselcoop’s edifices cannot compromise their cultural and residential values or threaten the individual integrity. Full article

Sexual health constitutes a fundamental aspect of overall well-being, with direct implications for individual development and the broader social and economic progress of communities. Promoting environments that ensure sexual experiences free from coercion, discrimination, and violence is a key public health priority. Sexuality, in this regard, should be understood as an inherent dimension of human experience, shaped by biological, cultural, cognitive, and ideological factors. Accordingly, sexual health education requires a holistic and multidimensional approach that integrates sociocultural, biographical, and professional perspectives. This study aims to examine the level of knowledge and training in sexual health among nursing students and healthcare professionals, as well as to assess the extent to which sexual health content is incorporated into nursing curricula at Spanish universities. A scoping review was conducted using the Dialectical Structural Model of Care (DSMC) as the theoretical framework. The findings indicate a significant lack of knowledge regarding sexual health among both nursing students and healthcare professionals, largely due to educational and structural limitations. Furthermore, sexual health education remains underrepresented in nursing curricula and is frequently addressed from a narrow, fragmented biomedical perspective. These results highlight the urgent need for the comprehensive integration of sexual health content into nursing education. Strengthening curricular inclusion is essential to ensure the preparation of competent professionals capable of delivering holistic, inclusive, and empowering care in this critical area of health. Background/Objectives: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are involved in cell-to-cell communication and delivery of signaling molecules and represent an interesting approach in targeted therapy. This project focused on EV-mediated facilitation and cell-specific delivery of effector antimiR molecules carried by biologically produced gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Methods: First, we loaded EVs derived from cancer cells 4T1 with AuNPs-antimiR. The AuNPs were also decorated with or without transferrin (Tf) molecules. We examined parental cell-specific delivery of the AuNPs-Tf-antimiR within monocultures as well as co-cultures in vitro. Subsequently, we used autologous EVs containing AuNPs-Tf-antimiR to target tumor cells in a xenograft tumor model in vivo. Efficacy of the antimir transfer was assessed by qPCR and apoptosis assessment. Results: In vitro, EVs loaded with AuNPs-antimiR were internalized only by the parental cells and the AuNPs-antimiR transfer was successful and effective only in EVs that were decorated with Tf. We achieved effective delivery of the antimiR molecule into cancer cells in vivo, which was proved by specific silencing of the target oncogenic miRNA as well as induction of cancer cells apoptosis. Conclusions: EVs represent an interesting and potent way for targeted cargo delivery and personalized medicine. On the other hand, there are various safety and efficacy challenges that remain to be addressed. Full article

The growing complexity of production systems in the technology sector demands advanced tools to ensure efficiency, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. This study presents the development of a simulation model for a selective soldering line at a technology manufacturing company in Poland, created during an engineering internship. Using FlexSim 24.2 software, the real production process was replicated, including input/output queues, manual insertion (MI) stations, soldering machines, and quality control points. Special emphasis was placed on implementing dynamic process logic via ProcessFlow, enabling detailed modeling of token flow and system behavior. Through experimentation, various configurations were tested to optimize process time and the number of soldering pallets in circulation. The results revealed that reducing pallets from 12 to 8 maintains process continuity while offering cost savings without impacting performance. An intuitive operator panel was also developed, allowing users to adjust parameters and monitor outcomes in real time. The project demonstrates that simulation not only supports operational decision-making and resource planning but also enhances interdisciplinary communication by visually conveying complex workflows. Ultimately, the study confirms that simulation modeling is a powerful and adaptable approach to production optimization, contributing to long-term strategic improvements and innovation in technologically advanced manufacturing environments. Urban flooding has significantly impacted the livelihoods of households and communities worldwide. It highlights the urgency of focusing on both flood preparedness and adaptation strategies to understand the community’s perception and adaptive capacity. This study investigates the levels of risk perception, flood preparedness, and adaptive capacity, while also exploring the inter-relationships among these factors within the context of urban flooding in Malaysia. A quantitative approach was employed, involving a structured questionnaire administered to residents in flood-prone urban areas across Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 212 responses were analysed using descriptive statistics, categorical index classification, and Spearman correlation analysis. The findings indicate that residents generally reported high levels of risk perception and preparedness, although adaptive capacity exhibited greater variability, with a mean score of 3.97 (SD = 0.64). Positive associations were found among risk perception, flood preparedness, and adaptive capacity. This study contributes to the existing knowledge by providing evidence on community resilience and highlighting key factors that can guide flood management policies and encourage adaptive planning at the community level. The paradigm-shift idea of murburn concept is no hypothesis but developed directly from fundamental facts of cellular/ecological existence. Murburn involves spontaneous and stochastic interactions (mediated by murzymes) amongst the molecules and unbound ions of cells. It leads to effective charge separation (ECS) and formation/recruitment of diffusible reactive species (DRS, like radicals whose reactions enable ATP-synthesis and thermogenesis) and emission of radiations (UV/Vis to ELF). These processes also lead to a chemo-electromagnetic matrix (CEM), ascertaining that living cell/organism react/function as a coherent unit. Murburn concept propounds the true utility of oxygen: generating DRS (with catalytic and electrical properties) on the way to becoming water, the life solvent, and ultimately also leading to phase-based macroscopic homeostatic outcomes. Such a layout enables cells to become simple chemical engines (SCEs) with powering, coherence, homeostasis, electro-mechanical and sensing–response (PCHEMS; life’s short-term “intelligence”) abilities. In the current review, we discuss the coacervate nature of cells and dwell upon the ways and contexts in which various radiations (either incident or endogenously generated) could interact in the new scheme of cellular function. Presenting comparative evidence/arguments and listing of systems with murburn models, we argue that the new perceptions explain life processes better and urge the community to urgently adopt murburn bioenergetics and adapt to its views. Further, we touch upon some distinct scientific and sociological contexts with respect to the outreach of murburn concept. It is envisaged that greater awareness of murburn could enhance the longevity and quality of life and afford better approaches to therapies. Full article

Optimization Study of the Electrical Microgrid for a Hybrid PV–Wind–Diesel–Storage System in an Island Environment

The Union of the Comoros, located in the Indian Ocean, faces persistent energy challenges due to its geographic isolation, heavy dependence on imported fossil fuels, and underdeveloped electricity infrastructure. This study investigates the techno-economic optimization of a hybrid microgrid designed to supply electricity to a rural village in Grande Comore. The proposed system integrates photovoltaic (PV) panels, wind turbines, a diesel generator, and battery storage. Detailed modeling and simulation were conducted using HOMER Energy, accompanied by a sensitivity analysis on solar irradiance, wind speed, and diesel price. The results indicate that the optimal configuration consists solely of PV and battery storage, meeting 100% of the annual electricity demand with a competitive levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of 0.563 USD/kWh and zero greenhouse gas emissions. Solar PV contributes over 99% of the total energy production, while wind and diesel components remain unused under optimal conditions. Furthermore, the system generates a substantial energy surplus of 63.7%, which could be leveraged for community applications such as water pumping, public lighting, or future system expansion. This study highlights the technical viability, economic competitiveness, and environmental sustainability of 100% solar microgrids for non-interconnected island territories. The approach provides a practical and replicable decision-support framework for decentralized energy planning in remote and vulnerable regions. Full article

SDT4Solar: A Spatial Digital Twin Framework for Scalable Rooftop PV Planning in Urban Environments

To sustainably power future urban communities, cities require advanced solar energy planning tools that overcome the limitations of traditional approaches, such as data fragmentation and siloed decision-making. SDTs present a transformative opportunity by enabling precision urban modelling, integrated simulations, and iterative decision support. However, their application in solar energy planning remains underexplored. This study introduces SDT4Solar, a novel SDT-based framework designed to integrate city-scale rooftop solar planning through 3D building semantisation, solar modelling, and a unified geospatial database. By leveraging advanced spatial modelling and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, SDT4Solar facilitates high-resolution 3D solar potential simulations, improving the accuracy and equity of solar infrastructure deployment. We demonstrate the framework through a proof-of-concept implementation in Ballarat East, Victoria, Australia, structured in four key stages: (a) spatial representation of the urban built environment, (b) integration of multi-source datasets into a unified geospatial database, (c) rooftop solar potential modelling using 3D simulation tools, and (d) dynamic visualization and analysis in a testbed environment. Results highlight SDT4Solar’s effectiveness in enabling data-driven, spatially explicit decision-making for rooftop PV deployment. This work advances the role of SDTs in urban energy transitions, demonstrating their potential to optimise efficiency in solar infrastructure planning. Full article
