Background/Objectives: Despite legal frameworks acknowledging the need to protect the rights of female prisoners, penitentiary systems often neglect gender-specific needs, particularly for foreign women. Among them, Muslim women face distinct challenges linked to cultural and religious practices, which are frequently unmet in prison contexts. This review aims to explore the academic literature on the experiences of Muslim women in detention. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using three major bibliographic databases—Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science—covering the period from 2010 to 2024. Inclusion criteria focused on peer-reviewed studies examining the condition of Muslim women in prison. Of the initial pool, only four articles met the criteria and were included in the final analysis. Results: The review reveals a marked scarcity of research on Muslim women in prison at both national and international levels. This gap may be due to their limited representation or cultural factors that hinder open discourse. The selected studies highlight key issues, including restricted access to services, limited ability to practice religion, and language and cultural barriers. These challenges contribute to increased psychological vulnerability, which is often underestimated in prison settings. Conclusions: There is an urgent need for targeted research and culturally competent training for prison staff to adequately support Muslim women in detention. Greater academic and institutional attention is essential to develop inclusive policies that consider the intersection of gender, religion, and migration, particularly in the post-release reintegration process. In light of the increasing frequency and intensity of natural phenomena, whether climatic or telluric, the relevance of multi-risk assessment approaches has become an important issue for understanding and estimating the impacts of disasters on complex socioeconomic systems. Two aspects contribute to the worsening of this situation. First, climate change has heightened the incidence and, in conjunction, the seriousness of geohazards that often occur with each other. Second, the complexity of these impacts on societies is drastically exacerbated by the interconnections between urban areas, industrial sites, power or water networks, and vulnerable ecosystems. In front of the recent research on this problem, and the necessity to figure out the best scientific positioning to address it, we propose, through this review analysis, to revisit existing literature on multi-risk assessment methodologies. By this means, we emphasize the new recent research frameworks able to produce determinant advances. Our selection corpus identifies pertinent scientific publications from various sources, including personal bibliographic databases, but also OpenAlex outputs and Web of Science contents. We evaluated these works from different criteria and key findings, using indicators inspired by the PRISMA bibliometric method. Through this comprehensive analysis of recent advances in multi-risk assessment approaches, we highlight main issues that the scientific community should address in the coming years, we identify the different kinds of geohazards concerned, the way to integrate them in a multi-risk approach, and the characteristics of the presented case studies. The results underscore the urgency of developing robust, adaptable methodologies, effectively able to capture the complexities of multi-risk scenarios. This challenge should be at the basis of the keys and solutions contributing to more resilient socioeconomic systems. Full article

The adoption of technological innovations in the maritime industry is of interest to business, policy, and academic communities. In the last group, this interest has translated into the publication of a large but scattered literature, making it difficult to compare findings and identify the dynamics, structures, and patterns that might inform future research. A comprehensive review of past research on this topic might help achieve this. To date, no such review has been carried out, which is an important gap in the literature that this paper contributes to bridging. Two bibliometric review techniques—co-citation analysis of cited references and bibliographic coupling of documents—are applied to 171 journal articles published between 1999 and February 2025 to answer the following questions: 1. What is the knowledge base of this literature? 2. What are the recent research trends (research fronts) in this literature? The analysis reveals that research on “shore power” dominates both the knowledge base and research fronts. Other key research themes centre on “autonomous shipping”, “blockchain”, and “alternative fuels”. Based on these results, implications for future research are drawn. Full article

Empirical and numerical methodologies for the geomechanical assessment of underground excavations have evolved in recent years to adapt to the geotechnical and structural conditions of natural caves, enabling stability evaluation and ensuring safe conditions for speleological exploration. This study analyzes the evolution of the state of the art of these techniques worldwide, assessing their reliability and application context, and identifying the most suitable methodologies for determining the stability of the Al-Badia lava tube. The research was conducted through bibliographic analysis and rock mass characterization using empirical geomechanical classifications. Subsequently, the numerical boundary element method (BEM) was applied to compare the obtained results and model the stress–strain behavior of the cavity. The results allowed the classification of the Al-Badia lava tube into stable, transition, and unstable zones, using empirical support charts and determining the safety factors of the surrounding rock mass. The study site highlights that empirical methods are rather conservative, and numerical results align better with observed conditions. Full article

In an ever-evolving digital environment, organizations must adopt advanced technologies for real-time big data processing to maintain their competitiveness and growth. However, selecting appropriate technologies is a challenge, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study develops a literature review to analyze the methodologies used in the selection of technologies, with a special focus on those associated with the Industry 4.0. Knowledge Development Process-Constructivist (ProKnow-C) method, which was used to build a bibliographic portfolio, examining approximately 3400 articles published between 2005 and 2024, from which 80 were selected for a detailed analysis. The main methodological contributions come from research articles, the ScienceDirect database, the Expert Systems with Applications Journal, studies conducted in Turkey, and publications from the year 2023. The results highlight the predominant use of multi-criteria techniques, emphasizing hybrid approaches that combine various decision-making methodologies. In particular, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and TOPSIS methods were employed in 51.25% of the analyzed cases, either individually or in combination. It is concluded that technology selection should be based on flexible and adaptive approaches tailored to the organizational context, aligning long-term strategic objectives to ensure business sustainability and success. Forming interdisciplinary research teams is challenging, especially when the pool of candidates is large and/or the addressed research projects require multi-disciplinary expertise. Based on their previous research outputs, like published work, a data-driven team formation procedure selects the researchers that are likely to work well together while covering all areas and offering all skills required by the multi-disciplinary topic. The description of the research team formation problem proposed in this paper uses novel quantitative metrics about the team candidates computed from bibliographic metadata records. The proposed methodology first analyzes the metadata fields that provide useful information and then computes four synthetic indicators regarding candidates’ skills and their interpersonal traits. Interdisciplinary teams are formed by solving a complex combinatorial multi-objective weighted set cover optimization problem, defined as equations involving the synthetic indicators. Problem solving uses the NSGA-II genetic algorithm. The proposed methodology is validated and compared with other similar approaches using a dataset on researchers from Politehnica University of Timisoara extracted from the IEEE Xplore database. Experimental results show that the method can identify potential research teams in situations for which other related algorithms fail. Full article

Background/Objectives: Biofeedback interventions are increasingly utilized in pediatric and adult care, with evidence in treating specific medical conditions and specific symptoms. However, evidence supporting their efficacy among children and adolescents and young adults (AYAs, aged 15–39) with cancer is limited. The aims of this systematic review are to present, assess, and synthesize the existing research on biofeedback in pediatric and AYA oncology, identify gaps in biofeedback research within this population, and provide recommendations for future research and clinical implications. Methods: A systematic search for articles was conducted using six bibliographic databases—PubMed/MEDLINE (NLM), EMBASE (Elsevier), CINAHL (EBSCO), SPORTDiscus (EBSCO), PsycINFO (OVID), and PEDro (NeuRA)—with an update on 5/7/2025. Included were studies involving pediatric/AYA oncology participants (0–39 years old) and those receiving at least one biofeedback modality. The methodological quality and risk of bias among included articles were assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias (ROB) Tool (modified version for non-randomized studies). A narrative synthesis of included studies examined the type of cancer studied, type of biofeedback used, study designs and methodological quality, and key outcomes evaluated. Results: While the literature suggests that biofeedback may offer beneficial outcomes for managing various pediatric/AYA oncology-related symptoms, such as pain, anxiety, and fatigue, only 8 studies out of 1013 screened (<1%) met inclusion criteria. Limitations included low study quality (small sample sizes, lack of control groups, and methodological inconsistencies). Conclusions: While biofeedback shows promise as a feasible and effective intervention, there is a call to action for well-designed, methodologically rigorous studies to substantiate its effectiveness and inform evidence-based practice specifically for pediatric/AYA oncology patients and clinicians. Sustainability reporting has evolved into a multidimensional field encompassing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure, integrated reporting (IR), and circular economy (CE) practices. This study aims to map the intellectual and thematic landscape of sustainability reporting research over the past decade, with a focus on sectoral differentiation. Drawing on bibliometric analysis of 1611 scientific articles indexed in Scopus, this research applies co-word analysis, thematic mapping, and bibliographic coupling to identify prevailing trends, conceptual clusters, and knowledge gaps. The results reveal a clear progression from fragmented debates toward a more integrated discourse combining ESG, IR, and CE frameworks. In the real economy, sustainability reporting demonstrates a mature operational focus, supported by standardized frameworks and extensive empirical evidence. In contrast, the banking sector exhibits emerging engagement with sustainability disclosure, while the public sector remains at an earlier stage of conceptual and practical development. Despite the increasing convergence of research streams, gaps persist in linking reporting practices to tangible sustainability outcomes, integrating digital innovations, and addressing social dimensions of circularity. This study concludes that further interdisciplinary and sector-specific research is essential to advance credible, comparable, and decision-useful reporting practices capable of supporting the transition toward sustainable and circular business models. Traditional stabilization techniques, such as lime and cement, widely used for their effectiveness, albeit with economic and environmental limitations, are leading to the search for sustainable approaches that utilize agricultural and industrial waste, such as rice husk ash, bagasse, and natural fibers. These have been shown to improve key geotechnical properties, even under saturated conditions, significantly. In particular, the combination of rice husk ash and recycled ceramics has shown notable results in Ecuadorian coastal soils. The article emphasizes the importance of selecting techniques that balance effectiveness, cost, and sustainability and identifies existing limitations, such as the lack of long-term data (ten years) and predictive models adapted to the Ecuadorian climate. From a bibliographic perspective, this article analyzes the challenges posed by expansive soils in the western coastal region of Ecuador, whose high plasticity and instability to moisture negatively affect civil works such as roads and buildings. The Ecuadorian clay contained 30% kaolinite and only 1.73% CaO, limiting its chemical reactivity compared to soils such as Saudi Arabia, which contained 34.7% montmorillonite and 9.31% CaO. Natural fibers such as jute, with 85% cellulose, improved the soil’s mechanical strength, increasing the UCS by up to 130%. Rice husk ash (97.69% SiO2) and sugarcane bagasse improved the CBR by 90%, highlighting their potential as sustainable stabilizers. All of this is contextualized within Ecuador’s geoenvironmental conditions, which are influenced by climatic phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña, as well as global warming. Finally, it is proposed to promote multidisciplinary research that fosters more efficient and environmentally responsible solutions for stabilizing expansive soils. Full article

Microbial fermentation is a fundamental bioconversion mechanism widely used in diverse industrial sectors, notably in food processing and bioenergy production. Over the years, the wealth of information and scientific and technological advances in the field of fermentation have made considerable progress. Most recent research studies are currently devoted to the implementation of innovative technological processes in order to increase fermentation effectiveness while consuming less energy and processing time. The aim of the present review is to investigate the impact of innovative physical techniques (pulsed electric field, PEFs; cold atmospheric plasma, CAP; and magnetic fields, MFs) on fermentation processes. The bibliographic analysis will mainly focus on recent advances towards non-destructive methods (PEF, CAP, and MF) and their induced changes in fermentation dynamics, fermented product quality, metabolite synthesis, and microbial growth kinetics. Various databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Scopus, and Web of Science, were used to collect pertinent scientific literature on the impact of innovative physical techniques on microorganisms and fermentation processes and to investigate the potential applications of these emerging technologies in the food and health sectors. According to the results, all techniques have the potential to optimize fermentation dynamics, boost metabolite synthesis, and enhance product quality. However, each technology displayed its own specific advantages and disadvantages. Full article

This study explores a strategic framework for the sustainable development of Northern and Central Euboea (Evia), Greece, through the preservation and promotion of cultural and environmental assets. This research aims to redirect tourism flows from overdeveloped coastal zones to underutilized inland areas by leveraging local heritage and natural resources. The methodology was developed within the context of the AEI research project and combines bibliographic research, stakeholder consultation, GIS analysis, and socioeconomic assessment. Based on this framework, a series of thematic cultural routes and agritourism initiatives were designed to enhance regional attractiveness and resilience. The study proposes the utilization of ICT tools such as GIS-based mapping, a digital development platform, and an online tourism portal to document, manage, and promote key assets. The socioeconomic impact of the proposed interventions was evaluated using an input–output model, revealing that each EUR 1 million invested in the region is expected to generate EUR 650,000 in local GDP and create 14 new jobs. The results underscore the potential of alternative tourism to stimulate inclusive and sustainable growth, particularly in post-disaster rural regions. This integrated approach can serve as a model for other territories facing similar environmental, economic, and demographic challenges. Full article

Food security constitutes a fundamental pillar of future sustainable development. A systematic evaluation of the impact of urban expansion on food security is critical to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly “Zero Hunger” (SDG 2). Drawing on bibliographic data from the Web of Science Core Collection, this study employs the bibliometrix package in R to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on the “urban expansion–food security” nexus spanning from 1982 to 2024. The analysis focuses on knowledge production, collaborative structures, and thematic research trends. The results indicate the following: (1) The publication trajectory in this field exhibits a generally increasing trend with three distinct phases: an incubation period (1982–2000), a development phase (2001–2014), and a phase of rapid growth (2015–2024). Land Use Policy stands out as the most influential journal in the domain, with an average citation rate of 43.5 per article. (2) China and the United States are the leading contributors in terms of publication output, with 3491 and 1359 articles, respectively. However, their international collaboration rates remain relatively modest (0.19 and 0.35) and considerably lower than those observed for the United Kingdom (0.84) and Germany (0.76), suggesting significant potential for enhanced global research cooperation. (3) The major research hotspots cluster around four core areas: urban expansion and land use dynamics, agricultural systems and food security, environmental and climate change, and socio-economic and policy drivers. These focal areas reflect a high degree of interdisciplinary integration, particularly involving land system science, agroecology, and socio-economic studies. Collectively, the field has established a relatively robust academic network and coherent knowledge framework. Nonetheless, it still confronts several limitations, including geographical imbalances, fragmented research scales, and methodological heterogeneity. Future efforts should emphasize cross-regional, interdisciplinary, and multi-scalar integration to strengthen the systematic understanding of urban expansion–food security interactions, thereby informing global strategies for sustainable development. In recent decades, climate change, increasing demand, and resource scarcity have transformed the agricultural sector into a critical field of research. Farmers have been compelled to adopt innovations and new technologies to enhance production efficiency and crop resilience. This study presents a systematic literature review, supplemented by a bibliometric analysis of relevant documents, focusing on the key applications and combined techniques of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and digital twins (DT) in the development and implementation of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in smart agriculture and establishes whether CPS in agriculture is an attractive research topic. A total of 108 bibliographic records from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases were analyzed to construct the bibliometric study database. The findings reveal that CPS has evolved and emerged as a promising research area, largely due to its versatility and integration potential. The analysis offers researchers and practitioners a comprehensive overview of the existing literature and research trends on the dynamic relationship between CPS and its primary applications in the agricultural industry while encouraging further exploration in this field. Additionally, the main challenges associated with implementing CPS in the context of smart agriculture are discussed, contributing to a deeper understanding of this topic. Full article

Resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) continues to pose significant challenges with high recurrence and mortality rates, despite traditional platinum-based chemotherapy yielding only an approximate 5% improvement in 5-year overall survival when administered preoperatively or postoperatively. In recent years, the integration of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as nivolumab, durvalumab and pembrolizumab, with platinum-based regimens in the perioperative setting has emerged as a transformative strategy. Our comprehensive review, based on a systematic bibliographic search of PubMed, Google Scholar, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and clinicaltrials.gov, targeting pivotal clinical trials from the past two decades, examines the impact of these neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemoimmunotherapy approaches on major pathological response rates and overall survival in early-stage NSCLC. Although these perioperative strategies represent a paradigm shift in treatment, promising durable responses are offset by persistent recurrence, emphasizing the necessity for optimized treatment sequencing, duration, and the identification of predictive biomarkers. Collectively, our findings underscore the critical role of the perioperative schema, particularly the neoadjuvant component, which enables the evaluation of novel biomarkers as surrogates for overall survival, in improving patient outcomes and delineating future research directions aimed at reducing mortality and enhancing the quality of life for patients with resectable NSCLC. Hyperuricemia, defined as elevated serum uric acid (SUA) levels (>6.8 mg/dL), is traditionally linked to gout and nephrolithiasis but is increasingly implicated in insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Epidemiological studies, such as NHANES, suggest hyperuricemia increases the risk of T2DM by 1.6 to 2.5 times. Mechanistically, uric acid promotes IR via oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and adipocyte dysregulation. Despite growing evidence, significant gaps remain in understanding these pathways, with existing studies often limited by observational designs and short intervention durations. A bibliographic analysis of studies from 2004–2024 using Web of Science and VOSviewer highlights a growing focus on hyperuricemia’s interplay with inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorders. However, inconsistencies in therapeutic outcomes and limited exploration of causality underscore the need for further research. We also explored the importance of gender stratification and the limitations of the binary model for the relationship between hyperuricemia and insulin resistance. This review emphasizes the importance of addressing these gaps to optimize hyperuricemia management as a potential strategy for diabetes prevention and metabolic health improvement. Full article
