Persons with disabilities face barriers to accessing sexuality education. For those who identify as queer, these challenges are compounded by stigma, ableism, and heteronormativity, resulting in distinct and overlooked experiences. This study explored the sexuality education needs of persons with disabilities who identify as queer in Kenya—a neglected demographic—using a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through a focus group discussion with six participants and analyzed thematically. Three themes emerged: invisibility and erasure; unprepared institutions and constrained support networks; and agency and everyday resistance. Educational institutions often overlook the intersectional needs of persons with disabilities who identify as queer, leaving them without adequate tools to navigate relationships, sexuality, and rights. Support systems are often unprepared or unwilling to address these needs. Societal attitudes that desexualize disability and marginalize queerness intersect to produce compounded exclusion. Despite these challenges, participants demonstrated agency by using digital spaces and informal networks to resist exclusion. This calls for policy reforms that move beyond tokenism to address the lived realities of multiply marginalized groups. Policy reform means not only a legal or governmental shift but also a broader cultural and institutional process that creates space for recognition, protection, and participation. Full article

Lion Grove was established in 1342 during the Yuan Dynasty and is one of the four most famous classical gardens in China. It was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Although Lion Grove is now regarded as a private garden representing the culture of Confucian scholars, it was originally a Chan Buddhist garden during its inception in the Yuan Dynasty. This study examines the natural landscapes of Lion Grove at its inception, focusing on four main aspects: the philosophy of nature, planning intent, creators, and the philosophical ideas they represent. Key findings include the following: Firstly, Lion Grove’s attitude towards nature is rooted in China’s indigenous culture, making it both a physical expression of Chan philosophy and a space reflecting the scholar–bureaucrats’ vision of an ideal landscape. Secondly, from the perspective of landscape planning, the Lion Grove of the Yuan Dynasty placed greater emphasis on natural elements compared to its modern counterpart, with rock landscapes serving as the core element throughout the garden. Thirdly, hermitic philosophy emerged as a significant cultural theme alongside Chan Buddhism during the Yuan Dynasty. Fourthly, the landscape elements of Lion Grove symbolize Chan Buddhist wisdom and the hermit’s idealism, with poetry playing a key role in conveying these cultural ideals, preserving the site’s early philosophical significance. Introduction: It is widely acknowledged that good quality relationships between social workers and children are essential to children’s non-formal inclusion in child protection processes. However, research exploring the perspective of children has shown this relationship to be highly complex, particularly when children are taken into care. Methods: This paper combines insights from two qualitative participatory studies conducted in Italy, both developed out of a collaboration between university, professional social work associations, and the Italian association of care leavers. The two projects explored, respectively, the perspectives of social workers on the one hand and of children in care and care leavers on the other regarding their relationship. Outcomes: The data reveal the complexity of the relationship between children and social workers, showing how both share a mirrored perception of it. Social workers recognise children’s negative feelings toward them and see them as inevitable, especially in cases of tense family dynamics. A relationship marked by hostile attitudes, anger, and distrust not only fuels social workers’ emotional struggles but also makes it harder to engage children effectively. While hostile attitudes and mistrust are often seen as obstacles to positive engagement, we advocate for recognising them not as barriers to be overcome but as realities to be acknowledged and addressed openly. This approach can create space for both children and practitioners to explore alternative forms of agency, fostering more meaningful participation. Full article

The space flexible netted pocket capture system provides a flexible and stable solution for capturing non-cooperative space objects. This paper investigates the control problem for the capture of non-cooperative targets undergoing motion. A dynamic model of the capturing net is established based on the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) and equivalent plate–shell theory. A contact collision force model is developed using a spring–damper model. Subsequently, a feedforward controller is designed based on the estimated collision force from the dynamic model, aiming to compensate for the collision effects between the target and the net. By incorporating the collision estimation data, an extended state observer is designed, taking into account the collision estimation errors and the flexible uncertainties. A sliding mode feedback controller is then designed using the fast terminal sliding mode control method. Finally, simulation analysis of target capture under different motion states is conducted. The results demonstrate that the spacecraft system’s position and attitude average flutter amplitudes are less than 102 m and 102 deg. In comparison to standard sliding mode control, the designed controller reduces the attitude jitter amplitude by an order of magnitude, thus demonstrating its effectiveness and superiority. Star sensors, as the most precise attitude measurement devices currently available, play a crucial role in spacecraft attitude estimation. However, traditional frame-based cameras tend to suffer from target blur and loss under high-dynamic maneuvers, which severely limit the applicability of conventional star sensors in complex space environments. In contrast, event cameras—drawing inspiration from biological vision—can capture brightness changes at ultrahigh speeds and output a series of asynchronous events, thereby demonstrating enormous potential for space detection applications. Based on this, this paper proposes an event data extraction method for weak, high-dynamic space targets to enhance the performance of event cameras in detecting space targets under high-dynamic maneuvers. In the target denoising phase, we fully consider the characteristics of space targets’ motion trajectories and optimize a classical spatiotemporal correlation filter, thereby significantly improving the signal-to-noise ratio for weak targets. During the target extraction stage, we introduce the DBSCAN clustering algorithm to achieve the subpixel-level extraction of target centroids. Moreover, to address issues of target trajectory distortion and data discontinuity in certain ultrahigh-dynamic scenarios, we construct a camera motion model based on real-time motion data from an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and utilize it to effectively compensate for and correct the target’s trajectory. Finally, a ground-based simulation system is established to validate the applicability and superior performance of the proposed method in real-world scenarios. Full article

Consensus protocols for a multi-agent networked system consist of strategies that align the states of all agents that share information according to a given network topology, despite challenges such as communication limitations, time-varying networks, and communication delays. The special orthogonal group SO(n) plays a key role in applications from rigid body attitude synchronization to machine learning on Lie groups, particularly in fields like physics-informed learning and geometric deep learning. In this paper, N-agent consensus protocols are proposed on the Lie group SO(4) and the corresponding tangent bundle TSO(4), in which the state spaces are SO(4)N and TSO(4)N, respectively. In particular, when using communication topologies such as a ring graph for which the local stability of non-consensus equilibria is retained in the closed loop, a consensus protocol that leverages a reshaping strategy is proposed to destabilize non-consensus equilibria and produce consensus with almost global stability on SO(4)N or TSO(4)N. Lyapunov-based stability guarantees are obtained, and simulations are conducted to illustrate the advantages of these proposed consensus protocols. Full article

The article aims to identify consumer types based on their attitudes and behaviors toward phygital tools and solutions. The analysis was based on the authors’ empirical research. The research was conducted on a sample of 2160 Polish consumers. The study employed an online survey technique. To determine the types of consumers, a 20-item scale was used, allowing the respondents to express their attitudes toward solutions and tools that improve shopping in the phygital space. The extraction of types was carried out in two steps. The first was cluster analysis, conducted using the hierarchical Ward method with the square of the Euclidean distance, and the second was non-hierarchical cluster analysis using the k-means method. As a result of the analyses, three relatively homogeneous types of consumers were distinguished: phygital integrators, digital frequenters, and physical reality anchors. The behaviours of consumers from each type were examined in the context of their impact on sustainable consumption and the sustainable development of the planet. The proposed typology contributes to developing consumer behavior theory in sustainable consumption environments. It provides practical implications for designing customer experiences that are more inclusive, resource-efficient, and aligned with responsible consumption patterns. Understanding how different consumer groups engage with phygital tools allows businesses and policymakers to tailor strategies that support equitable access to digital services and foster more sustainable, adaptive consumption journeys in an increasingly digitized marketplace. Passengers’ trust in Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs) can be affected by different factors, such as their attitudes toward new technologies and perceptions of the vehicles’ reputation. While the existing literature has begun to explore these issues, there is limited research investigating how industrial design in SAVs can enhance passengers’ trust levels. To address this gap, this study responds to the central question: How can passengers’ trust in the vehicle itself and in fellow passengers be enhanced through design intervention? This question conceptualises trust in the vehicle and trust in strangers as an integrated trust issue within the SAV context. To fill this gap, this study adopts a project-grounded methodology. The design work is guided by five trust principles: anthropomorphic design, a defensible space, system transparency, personalisation features, and a restorative environment. Drawing on insights from an auto-ethnography of current ride-sharing services, these principles are further explored and applied to identify design opportunities for both the physical and digital elements of SAVs. The final conceptual SAV design demonstrates how different design elements can be orchestrated to engender user trust. The outcome contributes to ongoing design practices and helps researchers and designers better understand trust design for SAVs. Full article

This paper presents a distributed adaptive formation control strategy for a multiple near-space vehicles (NSVs) system operating under unknown input constraints and external disturbances. In challenging near-space environments, the control system must address not only model uncertainties and parameter variations but also accommodate the input limitations of actuators. To address these challenges, we design an adaptive distributed formation control strategy for vehicle formation that relies exclusively on relative attitude information. This approach is grounded in the principles of angle rigidity formation theory, which has not previously been applied in the near-space vehicle domain. The aim of the adaptive formation control strategy is to maintain the desired formation shape for the near-space vehicles (NSVs) system with external disturbances, actuator dead zones, and saturation. In addition, neural networks are employed to approximate the inherent nonlinear uncertainties within the NSV models. An adaptive estimation technique is concurrently included to address parameter variations and to alleviate the impact of external disturbances, actuator dead zones, and saturation effects. Finally, a Lyapunov-based analysis is used to rigorously demonstrate the stability of the NSV formation system. The simulation results validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control strategy in uncertain environments. Full article

This paper investigates flexible multibody dynamic modeling and a staged deployment strategy for large-scale spinning tethered satellite systems, targeting deployment instability, inefficiencies, and tension-induced fracture risks. A nonlinear flexible multibody model is constructed using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation within an arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian framework, enabling accurate large-deformation modeling of the tether with geometric nonlinearity. This model surpasses traditional massless/rigid rod models by integrating tether mass distribution, flexible dynamics, and satellite attitude dynamics. A two-stage deployment strategy is proposed based on tether safe tension thresholds. Stage 1 optimizes deployment velocity to eliminate libration angles, ensuring stability while maintaining deployment efficiency. Stage 2 employs dynamic angular velocity tracking and torque compensation to reduce tether tension, prioritizing deployment safety. Numerical simulations validate the model’s accuracy and the strategy’s effectiveness, showing significant tension reduction compared to the single-stage strategy and suppressing libration angle oscillations within ±0.5°. The impact of space environmental forces on deployment stability across different orientations is analyzed, highlighting the necessity of force compensation for parallel-to-ground configurations. This research integrates dynamics and control, providing a practical solution for safe and efficient deployment of the spinning tethered satellite system. Full article

Laser propulsion is a new conceptual technology that drives spacecraft and possesses advantages such as high specific impulse, large payload ratio, and low launch cost. It has potential applications in diverse areas, such as space debris mitigation and removal, microsatellite attitude control, and orbital maneuvering. Liquid pulse laser propulsion has notable advantages among the various laser propulsion systems. We review the concept and the theory of liquid laser propulsion. Then, we categorize the current state of research based on three types of propellants—non-energetic liquids, energetic liquids, and liquid metals—and provide an analysis of the propulsion characteristics arising from the laser ablation of liquids such as water, glycidyl azide polymer (GAP), hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN), and ammonium dinitramide (ADN). We also discuss future research directions and challenges of pulsed liquid laser propulsion. Although experiments have yielded encouraging outcomes due to the distinctive properties of liquid propellants, continued investigation is essential to ensure that this technology performs reliably in actual aerospace applications. Consistent results under both spatial and ground conditions remain a key research content for fully realizing its potential. Full article

When a space target malfunctions and is no longer controlled by its attitude control system, it usually tumbles in orbit and exhibits a slow spinning state. Accurately estimating the on-orbit attitude of spinning space targets is of vital importance for ensuring the operation of space assets. Moreover, it plays a significant role in tasks such as reentry observation and collision avoidance. Currently, most existing methods estimate the attitude of space targets by using a single inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) for long-term observation. However, this approach not only requires a long observation time but also fails to estimate the attitude of spinning targets. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel approach for estimating the attitude of spinning space targets, which utilizes the joint observations of a multiple-station ISAR. Specifically, the proposed method fully exploits the projection principle of ISAR imaging and uses an ISAR high-resolution network (ISAR-HRNet) to automatically extract the projection features of typical components of the target. Then, the analytical expressions for the target’s instantaneous attitude and spin vector under the multi-station observation imaging projection model are derived. Based on the extracted features of the typical components, the lengths, orientations, and spin vectors of the space target are determined. Importantly, the proposed method can achieve the attitude estimation of the spinning space targets within a single observation period, without the need for manual intervention or prior information about the target’s three-dimensional (3D) model. Additionally, the analytical method for solving the spin vector offers high efficiency and accuracy. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed attitude estimation algorithm is verified by experiments on simulated data, and the performance of the ISAR-HRNet is also tested in the key point extraction experiments using measured data. The research herein presented aims to analyze the impacts of gentrification in a medium-sized Mallorca municipality because of the tourism accommodation changes. Using the available data from national and regional official sources, qualitative research is undertaken. The main findings show how gentrification has exacerbated issues such as rising real estate prices and the loss of houses, which are nowadays devoted to tourist rentals or boutique hotels, thus not available for the local population. Another effect is a displacement of young local residents from Sóller towards other island municipalities and, finally, the presence of conflicts over the use of public spaces. Even if the local authorities already implement some measures, it is concluded that more measures should be included in order to avoid the increase in “tourismphobia” attitudes related to the gentrification process and the public space occupation. This study investigates the mechanisms underlying the diffusion of risk information about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Drawing upon social contagion theory, we examine how endogenous and exogenous mechanisms shape users’ information-sharing behaviors. An analysis of 388,722 reposts from 2444 original GMO risk-related texts enabled the construction of a comprehensive sharing network, with computational text-mining techniques employed to detect users’ attitudes toward GMOs. To bridge the gap between descriptive and inferential network analysis, we employ a Shannon entropy-based approach to quantify the uncertainty and concentration of attitudinal differences and similarities among sharing and non-sharing dyads, providing an information-theoretic foundation for understanding positional and differential homophily. The entropy-based analysis reveals that information-sharing ties are characterized by lower entropy in attitude differences, indicating greater attitudinal alignment among sharing users, especially among GMO opponents. Building on these findings, the Exponential Random Graph Model (ERGM) further demonstrates that both endogenous network mechanisms (reciprocity, preferential attachment, and triadic closure) and positional homophily influence GMO risk information sharing and dissemination. A key finding is the presence of a differential homophily effect, where GMO opponents exhibit stronger homophilic tendencies than non-opponents. Despite the prevalence of homophily, this paper uncovers substantial cross-attitude interactions, challenging simplistic notions of echo chambers in GMO risk communication. By integrating entropy and ERGM analyses, this study advances a more nuanced, information-theoretic understanding of how digital platforms mediate public perceptions and debates surrounding controversial socio-scientific issues, offering valuable implications for developing effective risk communication strategies in increasingly polarized online spaces. There is a debate on the role of education as a tool to challenge or enforce authoritarian attitudes. Many posit that education, particularly higher education, reduces authoritarianism; whereas vast research indicates that education can be used as an authoritarian tool for regime survival. This suggests that there are other intervening factors, such as the curriculum used, the teaching methodology implemented, and the educational administration employed, to securitise the academic space and impose authoritarian attitudes. Informed by the notion of hegemony and the banking concept of education, this article explores the nexus between education and authoritarianism, determining the role of education as an authoritarian tool for regime survival. We use the case of Eritrea, a country that has been under authoritarian government for more than two decades. The article is based on a literature review because it is risky to conduct an objective empirical study on the “politics of education” in Eritrea, given the country’s political sensitivity. The findings suggest that the Eritrean government politicises the curriculum and militarises secondary and higher education levels to create false consciousness and maintain power. The article contributes to advancing knowledge regarding the nexus of authoritarianism and education, helping people understand the state of the politics of education. Full article
