This study analyses the potential of using sunflower husks as an energy source by producing bio-pellets and evaluating their combustion process in residential settings. As one of the leading sunflower producers in the European Union, Bulgaria generates significant agricultural residues with high, yet underutilized, energy potential. This study employs a combination of experimental data and numerical modelling aided by ANSYS 2024 R1 to analyse the combustion of sunflower husk pellets in a hot water boiler. The importance of balanced air distribution for achieving optimal combustion, reduced emissions, and enhanced thermal efficiency is emphasized by the results of a comparison of two air supply regimes. It was found that a secondary air-dominated air supply regime results in a more uniform temperature field and a higher degree of oxidation of combustible components. These findings not only confirm the technical feasibility of sunflower husk pellets but also highlight their commercial potential as a sustainable, low-cost energy solution for agricultural enterprises and rural heating providers. The research indicates that there are business-to-business (B2B) market opportunities for biomass producers, boiler manufacturers, and energy distributors who wish to align themselves with EU green energy policies and the growing demand for solutions that support the circular economy. In this study, we investigate the return propagation mechanism, hedging effectiveness, and portfolio performance across several common agricultural commodities, crude oil, and S&P 500 index, ranging from July 2000 to June 2024 by using a time-varying parameter vector autoregression (TVP-VAR) connectedness approach and three common multiple assets portfolio optimization strategies. The empirical results show that, the total connectedness peaked during the 2008 global financial crisis, followed by the European debt crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, while it remained relatively lower at the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In the transmission mechanism, commodities and S&P 500 index exhibit distinct and dynamic characteristics as transmitters or receivers. Portfolio analysis reveals that, with exception of the COVID-19 pandemic, all three dynamic portfolios outperform the S&P 500 benchmark across major global crises. Additionally, the minimum correlation and minimum connectedness strategies are superior than transitional minimum variance method in most scenarios. Our findings have implications for policymakers in preventing systemic risk, for investors in managing portfolio risk, and for farmers and agribusiness enterprises in enhancing economic benefits. Based on a comprehensive review of the current research status of ecological compensation both domestically and internationally, combined with field survey data, this study delves into the issue of multi-stakeholder participation in the ecological compensation mechanisms of the Xin’an River Basin. This research reveals that the joint participation of multiple stakeholders is crucial to achieving the goals of ecological compensation in river basins. The government plays a significant role in macro-guidance, financial support, policy guarantees, supervision, and management. It promotes the comprehensive implementation of ecological environmental protection by formulating relevant laws and regulations, guiding the public to participate in ecological conservation, and supervising and punishing pollution behaviors. The public, serving as the main force, forms strong awareness and behavioral habits of ecological protection through active participation in environmental protection, monitoring, and feedback. As participants, enterprises contribute to industrial transformation and green development by improving resource utilization efficiency, reducing pollution emissions, promoting green industries, and participating in ecological restoration projects. Scientific research institutions, as technology enablers, have effectively enhanced governance efficiency through technological research and innovation, ecosystem value accounting to provide decision-making support, and public education. Social organizations, as facilitators, have injected vitality and innovation into watershed governance by extensively mobilizing social forces and building multi-party collaboration platforms. Communities, as supporters, have transformed ecological value into economic benefits by developing characteristic industries such as eco-agriculture and eco-tourism. Based on the above findings, further recommendations are proposed to mobilize the enthusiasm of upstream communities and encourage their participation in ecological compensation, promote the market-oriented operation of ecological compensation mechanisms, strengthen cross-regional cooperation to establish joint mechanisms, enhance supervision and evaluation, and establish a sound benefit-sharing mechanism. These recommendations provide theoretical support and practical references for ecological compensation worldwide. Full article

This article analyzes statistics on the failure of technological equipment, assemblies, and mechanisms of agricultural (and other) machines associated with the breakdown or failure of gear pumps. It was found that the leading causes of gear pump failures are the opening of gear teeth contact during pump operation, poor assembly, wear of bushings, thrust washers, and gear teeth. It has also been found that there is a problem related to the restoration, repair, and manufacture of parts in the conditions of enterprises serving the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan (AIC RK). This is due to the lack of necessary technological equipment, tools, and instruments, as well as centralized repair and restoration bases equipped with the required equipment. This work proposes to solve this problem by applying AM technologies to the repair and manufacture of parts for agricultural machinery and equipment. The study results on the stress–strain state of support bushings under various pressures are presented, showing that a fully filled bushing has the lowest stresses and strains. It was also found that bushings with 50% filling and fully filled bushings have similar stress and strain values under the same pressure. The difference between them is insignificant, especially when compared to bushings with lower filling. This means that filling the bushing by more than 50% does not provide a significant additional reduction in stresses. In terms of material and printing time savings, 50% filling may also be the optimal option. Full article

Under China’s “Rural Revitalisation” strategy, contract farming faces challenges including farmers’ limited access to advanced technologies and high operational risks for agricultural support enterprises. The collaborative involvement of scientific research institutions offers potential solutions but remains underexplored. This study employs Stackelberg game theory to model a contract farming supply chain under two agricultural assistance modes: enterprise-led (EL) and collaborative assistance with scientific research institutions (CI). We further propose two government subsidy mechanisms: subsidies to enterprises and subsidies to scientific research institutions. The models analyze optimal decisions, supply chain performance, and subsidy efficiency, validated through numerical experiments. Key findings reveal the following: (1) The CI mode enhances agricultural output and farmer revenue but may reduce enterprise profits, deterring collaboration. (2) Government subsidies incentivize enterprise–institution collaboration. Subsidizing scientific research institutions typically improves agricultural productivity and economic benefits more effectively than subsidizing enterprises. (3) Synergistic effects exist among the government subsidy coefficient, cost coefficient of technical assistance, consumer preferences for agricultural quality, and profit-sharing ratio. The latter three parameters significantly influence subsidy model selection. This research provides policy insights for enhancing agricultural assistance efficiency and sustainable contract farming development. Full article

Growing awareness of sustainable development and green consumer concerns is driving the market expansion for green agriculture products. E-commerce live streaming gives rural enterprises a new channel through scenario-building and interaction, while agro-tourism integration combines resources to generate a variety of promotion scenarios. This study examines the effects of external stimuli, including social networks, resource endowment, infrastructure, and the characteristics of e-commerce streamers, on the perception, trust, perceived value, and purchase intention of green consumption. It is based on the SOR (Stimulus–Organism–Response) theoretical model and focuses on e-commerce live streaming in the agriculture-tourism integration scenario. According to a structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis of 350 consumer questionnaires, these external stimuli primarily influence purchase intention through perceived value, trust, and green consumption cognition, with resource endowment having the most significant impact. The effects of infrastructure on perceived value and streamer attractiveness on green consumption cognition are not statistically significant. This research not only broadens the use of the SOR model in the emerging field of agritourism integration but also offers rural businesses theoretical backing and useful guidance to maximize e-commerce live marketing and enhance agritourism integration. This research aims to analyze the evolution of productivity and efficiency in tractors featuring varying propulsion system designs through the development of a parametric modeling approach. Recognizing that large row-crop tractors represent a significant capital investment—ranging from USD 0.4 to over 0.8 million for current-generation models—and that machinery costs constitute a substantial share of farm production expenses, this study addresses the urgent need for data-driven decision-making in agricultural enterprises. Utilizing consolidated OECD Code 2 tractor test data for all large row-crop John Deere tractors from the MFWD era to the latest generation, the study evaluates tractor performance across multiple productivity and efficiency indicators. The analysis culminates in the creation of a robust, user-friendly parametric model (R2 = 0.9337, RMSE = 1.0265), designed to assist stakeholders in making informed decisions regarding tractor replacement or upgrading. By enabling the optimization of productivity and efficiency while accounting for agronomic and timeliness constraints, this model supports sustainable and profitable management practices in modern agriculture. The management of transfer pricing operations is considered from the perspective of modeling financial and accounting processes for various organizations, using agricultural enterprises as an example. It is demonstrated that the execution of transfer pricing operations between related parties—which may function as responsibility centers within an organizational holding structure—serves as a managerial lever influencing the financial income and expenses of individual business units. It is revealed that the developed model of managerial accounting for transfer pricing operations, grounded in tax compliance and the balancing of stakeholder interests, is based on two key aspects: first, to ensure the balanced development of the company’s business units, a list of key performance indicators (KPIs) is developed and integrated into a balanced scorecard (BSC), promoting the sustainable and stable operation and growth of the company; second, with access to this list of KPIs, the manager of each business unit can exert indirect influence over a segment of the final product’s value chain by selecting transfer prices that adhere to the arm’s length principle. The practical application of the proposed model is illustrated using previously formed economic operations from the research base. Full article

The agriculture sector is increasingly challenged to maintain productivity and sustainability amidst environmental, marketplace, and geopolitical pressures. While precision agriculture enhances physical production, the financial resilience of agricultural firms has been understudied. In this study, machine learning (ML) methods, including logistic regression (LR), decision trees (DTs), and artificial neural networks (ANNs), are employed to predict the bankruptcy risk for Central and Eastern European (CEE) farming firms. All models consistently showed high performance, with AUC values exceeding 0.95. DTs had the highest overall accuracy (95.72%) and F1 score (0.9768), LR had the highest recall (0.9923), and ANNs had the highest discrimination power (AUC = 0.960). Visegrad, Balkan, Baltic, and Eastern Europe subregional models featured economic and structural heterogeneity, reflecting the need for local financial risk surveillance. The results support the development of AI-based early warning systems for agricultural finance, enabling smarter decision-making, regional adaptation, and enhanced sustainability in the sector. Data scarcity hampers the implementation of circular economy (CE) in rural historical small towns (HSTs) where traditional agricultural practices persist outside formal monitoring systems. In this regard, this study proposes and tests an estimation framework to quantify agricultural waste flows and energy recovery potential. The methodology combines waste generation coefficients from peer-reviewed literature with administrative data to generate actionable CE assessments. Application to four Sicilian HSTs within the Local Action Group (LAG) “Terre dell’Etna e dell’Alcantara” exhibits substantial waste generation potential despite their small size. The agricultural enterprises generate an estimated 6930–7130 tons of annual agricultural waste under moderate production scenarios, comprising grape pomace (3250 tons), pruning residues (3030 tons), and mixed processing wastes (650–850 tons). The energy recovery potential ranges from 20–30 TJ through direct combustion to 4.9–8.1 TJ via anaerobic digestion. Sensitivity analysis indicates balanced contributions from all three key parameters (enterprise density, yields, and waste coefficients), each accounting for 31–35% of output variance. The framework provides resource-constrained municipalities with a cost-effective tool for preliminary CE assessment, enabling identification of priority interventions without expensive primary data collection. From a managerial perspective, local administrators can leverage this tool to transform routine administrative data into actionable CE strategies. Full article

This article aims to assess the conditions and prospects for biomass utilization in the Visegrad Group (V4) countries. Additionally, the relationship between biomass energy production and greenhouse gas emissions was examined. A key component of the analysis involved identifying potential directions for the development of biomass utilization in the pursuit of the sustainable development of agricultural enterprises. In relation to these research objectives, a hypothesis was formulated regarding the causal relationship between biomass energy consumption and economic growth, the abundance of natural resources, and income in reference to the European Union economies. Both static and dynamic panel studies were applied. The conducted research revealed the complex nature of the conditions influencing biomass utilization. The study period covered the years 2004–2022. A negative correlation was found between the use of biomass and greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, factors favoring biomass utilization included economic growth, the level of natural resource consumption per capita, and government policies aimed at increasing the share of renewable resources in the economy. Background/Objectives: Value frameworks are useful tools to explicitly define the dimensions and criteria important for decision-making, but no existing frameworks capture the broad value domains of population genomic programs. Using a mixed methods approach, we aimed to develop a novel value framework for evaluating population genomic programs (PGPs). Methods: We first conducted a targeted literature review of published evidence on the value of PGPs and existing frameworks to evaluate and quantify their impact. Value domains and elements were extracted and summarized to develop a preliminary framework. Semi-structured stakeholder interviews on the preliminary framework were conducted from March 2024 to October 2024 with 11 experts representing 9 countries. A thematic analysis of interview transcripts was conducted to map value elements to domains of the final framework. Results: We identified 348 potentially relevant articles from MEDLINE-indexed and the gray literature sources. After title and abstract screening, 23 articles met the inclusion criteria and underwent full-text review, and 8 reported value elements were extracted and mapped to a preliminary framework for testing in interviews. Stakeholder themes were summarized into the value domains and elements of the final framework, which included health as a primary domain, education and research, enterprise and finance, and labor as the core domains, and agriculture and security as extended domains. Domains and elements may be excluded based on stakeholder objectives and program characteristics. Conclusions: This novel framework for assessing the comprehensive value of PGPs provides a foundational step to assess the value of these programs and may promote more efficient and informed allocation of resources. This study explores how private sector initiatives within the tourism industry can contribute to public health outcomes and Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) through sustainable agricultural practices. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines a systematic literature review with an in-depth case study, the research examines how integrated strategies—such as pesticide-free farming, biodiversity enhancement, and edible landscape design—can reduce environmental health risks, improve nutritional quality, and promote local resilience. A series of sustainability interventions are analyzed using key performance indicators (KPIs) related to pesticide use, organic production, pollinator conservation, and community engagement. The findings reveal that business-led sustainability models can support systemic change when grounded in clear metrics and cross-sector collaboration. Although the absence of pre-2019 baseline data and direct health outcome measurements limit causal inference, the study provides a valuable blueprint for aligning private enterprise practices with global health and sustainability objectives. The implications are relevant for policymakers, hospitality operators, and public health stakeholders aiming to foster synergies between tourism, agriculture, and well-being. Full article

Eliminating all forms of poverty is a core component of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. At the household level, poverty and income inequality significantly threaten farmers’ sustainable development and food security. Based on a sample of 1234 kiwi farmers from the Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces in China, this paper empirically examines the impact of participation in agricultural industry organizations (AIOs) on household income and income inequality, as well as the underlying mechanisms. The results indicate the following: (1) Participation in AIOs increased farmers’ average household income by approximately 19,570 yuan while simultaneously reducing the income inequality index by an average of 4.1%. (2) Participation increases household income and mitigates income inequality through three mechanisms: promoting agricultural production, enhancing sales premiums, and improving human capital. (3) After addressing endogeneity concerns, farmers participating in leading agribusiness enterprises experienced an additional average income increase of 21,700 yuan compared to those participating in agricultural cooperatives. Therefore, it is recommended to optimize the farmer–enterprise linkage mechanisms within agricultural industry organizations, enhance technical training programs, and strengthen production–marketing integration and market connection systems, aiming to achieve both increased farmer income and improved income distribution. An Experimental Study on the Charging Effects and Atomization Characteristics of a Two-Stage Induction-Type Electrostatic Spraying System for Aerial Plant Protection

To address the technical problems of broad droplet size spectrum, insufficient atomization uniformity, and spray drift in plant protection unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications, this study developed a novel two-stage aerial electrostatic spraying device based on the coupled mechanisms of hydraulic atomization and electrostatic induction, and, through the integration of three-dimensional numerical simulation and additive manufacturing technology, a new two-stage inductive charging device was designed on the basis of the traditional hydrodynamic nozzle structure, and a synergistic optimization study of the charging effect and atomization characteristics was carried out systematically. With the help of a charge ratio detection system and Malvern laser particle sizer, spray pressure (0.25–0.35 MPa), charging voltage (0–16 kV), and spray height (100–1000 mm) were selected as the key parameters, and the interaction mechanism of each parameter on the droplet charge ratio (C/m) and the particle size distribution (Dv50) was analyzed through the Box–Behnken response surface experimental design. The experimental data showed that when the charge voltage was increased to 12 kV, the droplet charge-to-mass ratio reached a peak value of 1.62 mC/kg (p < 0.01), which was 83.6% higher than that of the base condition; the concentration of the particle size distribution of the charged droplets was significantly improved; charged droplets exhibited a 23.6% reduction in Dv50 (p < 0.05) within the 0–200 mm core atomization zone below the nozzle, with the coefficient of variation of volume median diameter decreasing from 28.4% to 16.7%. This study confirms that the two-stage induction structure can effectively break through the charge saturation threshold of traditional electrostatic spraying, which provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the optimal design of electrostatic spraying systems for plant protection UAVs. This technology holds broad application prospects in agricultural settings such as orchards and farmlands. It can significantly enhance the targeted deposition efficiency of pesticides, reducing drift losses and chemical usage, thereby enabling agricultural enterprises to achieve practical economic benefits, including reduced operational costs, improved pest control efficacy, and minimized environmental pollution, while generating environmental benefits.
