Workforce adjustments, such as mass layoffs, are significant corporate events that can influence stock returns and volatility, yet their broader asset-pricing implications remain underexplored. We examine the impact of such workforce shocks on stock performance from an asset-pricing perspective. Grounded in production-based asset-pricing theory, incorporating labor adjustment costs and search-and-matching frictions, our study posits that disruptions in the labor force significantly affect firm risk and value. This focus addresses a clear gap. Previous research has not comprehensively evaluated workforce shocks as systematic risk factors in a cross-sectional asset-pricing model. Using an extensive dataset spanning 1990–2023 and covering thousands of layoff events, we construct a novel “workforce shock” factor and conduct the first large-scale empirical tests of its pricing relevance. Our analysis reveals that workforce shocks lead to lower stock returns and heightened volatility, effects especially pronounced in labor-intensive firms. Moreover, exposure to workforce shock risk carries a significant premium, indicating that these disruptions act as a systematic risk factor priced in the cross-section of equity returns. Overall, our study provides the first comprehensive evidence linking labor force disturbances to equity risk premia, underscoring the importance of incorporating labor market considerations into asset-pricing models. Over the past 50 years, scientific interest in electromagnetic field-biology interactions has flourished. Important experimental observations and mathematical hypotheses remain central to academic debate. Adey and Blackman found that specific electromagnetic frequencies affect calcium transport in cells. To explain this phenomenon, Liboff introduced ion cyclotron resonance-like (ICR-like) theory, proposing a specific mechanism for ion modulation. Preparata and Del Giudice introduced quantum electrodynamics (QED), offering controversial quantum-level explanations that complement classical models. Lucia and NASA contributed further with thermomagnetic resonance and experimental observations. Together, these hypotheses have partially clarified how weak electromagnetic fields interact with cells and suggest possible parallel endogenous mechanisms. The aim of this narrative review is to provide a clear and logical framework for understanding biological events, both those that arise naturally within biology and those that can be initiated externally through the application of electromagnetic fields. Despite growing attention to corporate environmental responsibility, there is limited understanding of the psychological and social mechanisms linking corporate environmental responsibility to employees’ coworker-focused pro-environmental behaviors in the workplace, such as advocacy directed at peers. This study examined the influence of corporate environmental responsibility on employees’ coworker pro-environmental advocacy in the Chinese energy sector, with a sample of 1528 employees. Focusing on the mediating roles of long-term orientation, meaningful work, and sense of community, the research integrates insights from Social Exchange Theory, Self-determination Theory, and Affective Events Theory. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings revealed that corporate environmental responsibility positively impacted employees’ advocacy for eco-friendly behaviors among coworkers through forward-thinking attitudes, intrinsic motivation, and strengthened social bonds. The study offers theoretical contributions by unpacking the interplay of individual and organizational factors and provides practical recommendations for cultivating an environmentally conscious culture through value alignment, meaningful work initiatives, and fostering a strong sense of community. Abusive supervision remains a pervasive and damaging phenomenon in organizations, prompting a critical need to understand preventive mechanisms. We adopt a leader-centric, actor-focused perspective to investigate how a positive organizational context can inhibit leaders’ destructive behaviors. Drawing on Affective Events Theory (AET), we propose that leaders’ awareness of their organization’s philanthropic activities serves as a positive, morally salient event that generates feelings of moral pride. This pride, in turn, is theorized to reduce the likelihood of abusive supervision. Furthermore, we posit that this process is contingent on leaders’ moral reputation maintenance concerns, such that the negative relationship between moral pride and abusive supervision is stronger for leaders who are highly concerned with being perceived as moral. We tested this model using a three-wave survey study involving 434 leaders. The results support our hypotheses, indicating that perceived philanthropy awareness is positively associated with moral pride, which, in turn, predicts lower abusive supervision. This indirect effect is significantly stronger for leaders with high moral reputation maintenance concerns. Our findings contribute to the literature by identifying a novel, positive, and self-regulatory pathway for preventing abusive supervision and showing that applying AET to understand how macro-level organizational good deeds can translate into improved micro-level leader conduct. Background/Objectives: Implicit theories of thoughts, emotions, and behavior (TEB) describe beliefs that these attributes are either changeable (growth mindset) or unchangeable (fixed mindset). While the impact of mindsets on negative mental health indicators, such as psychopathological symptoms, is well-documented, their relations with positive indicators such as life satisfaction, particularly in the context of stress, remain underexplored. This study aimed to address this gap by testing whether the association between adolescents’ implicit theories of TEB and life satisfaction is mediated by cognitive reappraisal and whether stressful life events moderated two paths within the mediation model. Methods: Participants were 620 high school students (49.5% female, 43.5% male, 5.8% gender-nonconforming, 1.1% undisclosed) aged 14 to 19 years (M = 17.51, SD = 1.23), who completed an online survey in Spring 2022, while the COVID-19 pandemic still significantly affected daily life. Mediation and moderated mediation models were tested using PROCESS macro in SPSS. Results: Mediation analysis revealed that growth mindset positively influenced life satisfaction both directly and indirectly through cognitive reappraisal. Stressful life events significantly moderated the direct effect of growth mindset on life satisfaction, with the positive direct effect diminishing as stress increased. Conclusions: The positive link between growth mindset and life satisfaction was strongest under lower stress and transmitted through cognitive reappraisal across stress levels. Given the cross-sectional design, findings should be interpreted as correlational, not causal. Future longitudinal research should clarify temporal directionality and reciprocal links among mindset, coping, and well-being to inform interventions that strengthen adaptive beliefs and regulation skills. The existing literature has studied and addressed the limitations of traditional drought evaluation methods, which often depend on one station without considering the spatiotemporal integration, resulting in an incomplete drought assessment. Given these limitations, this research proposes a new approach using the Specific Period (SP) and Precipitation Index (PI) concepts and aims to provide new perspectives for drought analysis. The methodology focuses on integrating all stations within the study area, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the evolution and characteristics of drought at each month. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) at Konya Endorheic Basin (KEB) is used in this research to define drought events at multiple time scales, both for the SPI and Run theories. The main objective is to develop an innovative holistic framework for drought evaluation. The results demonstrate that the new approach improves the accuracy and consistency of drought detection compared to traditional methods. The results showed that drought durations ranged from 23 to 29 months for SPI-12 in regions such as Cihanbeyli, Ereğli, and Seydisehir. In contrast, regions such as Aksaray and Konya Havalimanı emerged as the least affected, with positive PI values between +0.14 and +0.19, compared to negative values of −0.71 to −0.83 in Seydisehir, Ereğli, and Cihanbeyli, indicating spatial variations in drought evolution within the KEB. This research provides a more comprehensive framework for monitoring drought in semi-arid regions, supporting water resource management policies and climate change adaptation and mitigation plans. Our article presents a holistic analysis aimed at discerning patterns from ancient–modern comparative contexts of malaria. The article’s interdisciplinary and consilient methodology is drawn from a range of disciplines: the humanities and social sciences, medical knowledge (particularly epidemiology and pathology), molecular phylogenetics, demography, archaeology, paleopathology, numismatics, complex systems theory, etc. The article begins with a detailed exploration of a 463 BCE epidemic event that likely marked the, ultimately transformative, debut of P. falciparum evolutionary lineage malaria for ancient Roman civilization. It is important to note that the concept of evolutionary lineage is defined herein as a sequence of organisms, descended from a common ancestor and culminating, for the present at least, in the form existing currently. An interdisciplinary retrospective diagnosis methodology is utilized to establish, with what we believe to be a high degree of probability, a conclusion that effectively marks the beginning point for the ancient side of our comparative example. The deep interdisciplinary/historical methods used to elucidate the ancient side of the disease equation both lead to a clear conclusion and suggest potential modern analogies or even “prophecies.” These are used to highlight the threats emanating from the current spread of zoonotic P. knowlesi malaria in Southeast Asia. The article also utilizes six broader holistic and interdisciplinary factors in its contextual and comparative analysis: (A) political, military and security contexts; (B) the effects of cultural perceptions; (C) the role of climate and climate change; (D) additional anthropogenic environmental factors; (E) perceptions, practices and capabilities of prevailing medical systems and (F) holistic underlying states of the health of affected populations. The study is referenced by interdisciplinary theories, i.e., routine activity, and social cohesion, to investigate the impacts of sport clubs and events on London’s expressive crimes at varied geographical scales, by utilizing Geographical-temporally weighted regression model. It has identified the spatial patterns of effects from sport clubs’ onto local expressive crimes among London wards, with several boroughs standing out for their being significantly affected. The case study in the home borough of the Hotspur Football Club has further been conducted, by proving the seasonal influences of sports clubs on reducing youth violence within school terms. It was also found disproportional increases in expressive crimes on Premier League match days, especially when receiving the results of draw. The data-driven evidence has generated insights on localized policies and strategies on developing tailored sports to support local young people’s development; pinpointing the optimisation of police forces resources on stop and search practices during sports events in hot spot stadiums. The methodology and workflow had also been proved with high replicability into other UK cities. Full article

This study aims to examine the determinants of tourist continuance intention in halal tourism in Indonesia and extend the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model by incorporating sustainable tourist citizenship behavior (STCB) and tourists’ emotional events and past halal experiences to provide a rounded understanding of Muslim tourists’ revisit intentions. This quantitative study employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data collected from 500 Muslim tourists who visited halal destinations in West Sumatra. The findings reveal that their STCB, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly influence their continuance intention. Moreover, the empirical findings indicate that tourists’ emotional events and past halal experiences positively affect the TPB constructs, further strengthening the behavioral outcomes. All the proposed hypotheses were supported by the model and highlight the critical roles of psychological, experiential, and behavioral factors in shaping tourist loyalty. The results of this study contribute to the theoretical advancement of halal tourism behavior and offer practical suggestions for destination management to enhance sustainable engagement and repeat visitation among Muslim travelers. Despite increased interest in embodied learning, the role of sensorimotor activity in shaping students’ probabilistic reasoning remains underexplored. This design-based study examines how high school students develop key probabilistic concepts, including sample space, certainty, and event probability, through whole-body movement activities situated in an authentic classroom setting. Grounded in embodied cognition theory, we introduce a two-axis interpretive framework. One axis spans sensorimotor exploration and formal reasoning, drawing from established continuums in the literature. The second axis, derived inductively from our analysis, contrasts engagement with distraction, foregrounding the affective and attentional dimensions of embodied participation. Students engaged in structured yet open-ended movement sequences that elicited intuitive insights. This approach, epitomized by one student’s spontaneous question, “Can I use my leg too?”, captures the agentive and improvisational character of the embodied learning environment. Through five analyzed classroom episodes, we trace how students shifted between bodily exploration and formalization, often through nonlinear trajectories shaped by play, uncertainty, and emotionally driven reflection. While moments of insight emerged organically, they were also fragile, as they were affected by ambiguity and the difficulty in translating physical actions into mathematical language. Our findings underscore the pedagogical potential of embodied design for probabilistic learning while also highlighting the need for responsive teaching that balances structure with improvisation and supports affective integration throughout the learning process. This study assesses future agricultural drought risk in the Ganjiang River Basin under climate change and land use change. A coupled analysis framework was established using the SWAT hydrological model, the CMIP6 climate models (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP5-8.5), and the PLUS land use simulation model. Key methods included the Standardized Soil Moisture Index (SSMI), travel time theory for drought event identification and duration analysis, Mann–Kendall trend test, and the Pettitt change-point test to examine soil moisture dynamics from 2027 to 2100. The results indicate that the CMIP6 ensemble performs excellently in temperature simulations, with a correlation coefficient of R2 = 0.89 and a root mean square error of RMSE = 1.2 °C, compared to the observational data. The MMM-Best model also performs well in precipitation simulations, with R2 = 0.82 and RMSE = 15.3 mm, compared to observational data. Land use changes between 2000 and 2020 showed a decrease in forestland (−3.2%), grassland (−2.8%), and construction land (−1.5%), with an increase in water (4.8%) and unused land (2.7%). Under all emission scenarios, the SSMI values fluctuate with standard deviations of 0.85 (SSP1-2.6), 1.12 (SSP2-4.5), and 1.34 (SSP5-8.5), with the strongest drought intensity observed under SSP5-8.5 (minimum SSMI = −2.8). Drought events exhibited spatial and temporal heterogeneity across scenarios, with drought-affected areas ranging from 25% (SSP1-2.6) to 45% (SSP5-8.5) of the basin. Notably, abrupt changes in soil moisture under SSP5-8.5 occurred earlier (2045–2050) due to intensified land use change, indicating strong human influence on hydrological cycles. This study integrated the CMIP6 climate projections with high-resolution human activity data to advance drought risk assessment methods. It established a framework for assessing agricultural drought risk at the regional scale that comprehensively considers climate and human influences, providing targeted guidance for the formulation of adaptive water resource and land management strategies. Enterprise architecture (EA) provides a strategic foundation for aligning business processes, IT infrastructure, and organizational strategy, enabling firms to navigate uncertainty and complexity. In developing economies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face significant challenges in maintaining financial resilience and sustainable growth amidst frequent disruptions. This study investigates how EA-driven change events affect SME financial performance by activating three key adaptive mechanisms: improvisational capability, flexible IT systems, and organizational culture. A novel classification of EA change triggers is proposed to guide adaptive responses. Using survey data from 291 Pakistani SMEs collected during the COVID-19 crisis, the study employs structural equation modeling (SEM) to validate the conceptual model. The results indicate that improvisational capability and flexible IT systems significantly enhance financial performance, while the mediating role of organizational culture is statistically insignificant. This study contributes to EA and sustainability literature by integrating a typology of EA triggers with adaptive capabilities theory and testing their effects in a real-world crisis context. In Stage 1, an improved adjacency information entropy algorithm with multi-hazard coupling coefficients identifies critical exposed elements. In Stage 2, Dijkstra’s algorithm extracts key risk transmission paths. A dual-dimensional classification method, based on entropy and transmission risk, is then applied to prioritize emergency responses. This method integrates the criticality of exposed elements with the risk levels associated with secondary disaster propagation paths. Case studies validate the framework, revealing: (1) Hierarchical heterogeneity in the network, with surface facilities and surrounding hydrological systems as central hubs; shaft and tunnel systems and surrounding geological systems are significantly affected by propagation from these core nodes, exhibiting marked instability. (2) Strong risk polarization in secondary hazard propagation, with core-node-originated paths being more efficient and urgent. (3) The entropy-risk classification enables targeted hazard control, improving efficiency. The study proposes chain-breaking strategies for precise, hierarchical, and timely emergency management, enhancing coal mine resilience to flood-induced Natech events. Full article

Against the backdrop of evolving global climate patterns, the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events have increased significantly, posing unprecedented threats to agricultural production. This change has particularly profound impacts on agricultural systems in developing countries, making the enhancement of farmers’ capacity to withstand extreme weather events a crucial component for achieving sustainable agricultural development. As an essential safeguard for agricultural production, agricultural insurance plays an indispensable role in risk management. However, a pronounced gap persists between policy aspirations and actual adoption rates among farmers in developing economies. This study employs the integrated theory of planned behavior (TPB) and protection motivation theory (PMT) to construct an analytical framework incorporating psychological, socio-cultural, and risk-perception factors. Using Jiangsu Province—a representative high-risk agricultural region in China—as a case study, we administered 608 structured questionnaires to farmers. Structural equation modeling was applied to identify determinants influencing insurance adoption decisions. The findings reveal that farmers’ agricultural insurance purchase decisions are influenced by multiple factors. At the individual level, risk perception promotes purchase intention by activating protection motivation, while cost–benefit assessment enables farmers to make rational evaluations. At the social level, subjective norms can significantly enhance farmers’ purchase intention. Further analysis indicates that perceived severity indirectly enhances purchase intention by positively influencing attitude, while response costs negatively affect purchase intention by weakening perceived behavior control. Although challenges such as cognitive gaps and product mismatch exist in the intention-behavior transition, institutional trust can effectively mitigate these issues. It not only strengthens the positive impact of psychological factors on purchase intention, but also significantly facilitates the transformation of purchase intention into actual behavior. To promote targeted policy interventions for agricultural insurance, we propose corresponding policy recommendations from the perspective of public intervention based on the research findings. Climate change causes extreme weather events to occur frequently, such as drought, which may exacerbate forest fire regimes; as such, forest fire regimes may be closely related to drought characteristics. The spatial non-stationarity of factors affecting forest fires has not been fully clarified and needs further exploration. This study intends to address how drought characteristics affect forest fire regimes in China and whether spatial non-stationarity can improve the model prediction based on methods such as the run theory and GWR. Our results show that geographically weighted regression models perform better (AICc, AUC, R2, RMSE, and MAE) than global regression models in modeling forest fire regimes. Although GWR improves accuracy, small sample sizes (vegetation zones, climatic zones) may affect its accuracy. Drought characteristics significantly affect (p < 0.05) the forest fire regimes, and the correlation is spatially non-static. At the grid scale, a positive correlation between the forest fire occurrence probability and drought characteristics is mostly distributed in the southwest and northwest regions. Our study is conducive to an in-depth understanding of the relationship between forest fire regimes and drought, aiming to provide a scientific basis for the development of forest fire management measures to mitigate drought stress according to local conditions.
