As consumer preferences tend toward safer, chemical residue-free, and nutritionally rich fruits, preharvest bagging has gained attention as a sustainable method for improving fruit quality and protecting produce from environmental and biological stressors and pesticide residues. This study assessed the impact of preharvest bagging using paper bags with inner aluminum coating on the physicochemical traits, storability, and browning susceptibility after cutting or bruising of ‘Afrata Volou’ quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) fruit grown in central Greece. Fruits were either bagged or left unbagged approximately 60 days before harvest, and evaluations were conducted at harvest and after three months of cold storage, plus two days of shelf-life. Fruit bagging reduced the quince’s flesh temperature on the tree crown. Bagging had minor effects on fruit and nutritional quality, except for more yellow skin and higher titratable acidity (TA). Also, at harvest, bagging did not significantly affect fruit flesh browning after cutting or bruising. After three months of storage, unbagged and bagged quince fruit developed more yellow skin color, without significant alterations in most quality characteristics and nutritional value, but increased total tannin content (TTC). After three months of storage, the quince flesh color determined immediately after cutting or bruising was brighter and more yellowish compared to that at harvest, due to continuation of fruit ripening, but it darkened faster with time after cutting or skin removal. Therefore, fruit bagging appears to be a sustainable practice for improving the aesthetic and some chemical quality characteristics of quince, particularly after storage, without negative impacts on other characteristics such as texture and phenolic content. Brachycephalic head shape in dogs has been associated with behavioural traits that may enhance their appeal as companion animals, contributing to their popularity. However, it remains unclear whether these behavioural differences are directly linked to head shape or are mediated by factors such as body size, demographics, and dog-keeping practices. Drawing on two large-scale owner surveys (N = 5613) and cephalic index estimates for 90 breeds, we investigated the relationship between head shape and eight behavioural variables (four personality traits and four behavioural problems), while controlling for 20 demographic and dog-keeping characteristics, as well as body size. Our results show that behavioural differences among head shapes are only partly attributable to head shape itself; some are explained by confounding variables. Specifically, brachycephalic dogs appeared predisposed to positive behaviours (e.g., calmness, fewer behavioural problems), but these traits were often obscured by their small body size and low training experience. These findings highlight the complex interplay between morphology, behaviour, and environment, and emphasize the role of training and management in supporting the behavioural well-being of popular brachycephalic breeds. This has important implications for owners, breeders, and welfare professionals aiming to align aesthetic preferences with behavioural and welfare outcomes. Full article

This study presents a data-driven, multi-objective optimization framework for user-centric product form design, integrating affective response modeling with coupled constraint satisfaction. Initially, morphological analysis and aesthetic evaluation are employed to extract critical design elements, while cluster analysis segments users based on preference data. Dominance-based rough set theory is then applied to derive group-specific affective patterns, which are subsequently modeled using Genetic Algorithm-optimized Backpropagation Neural Networks (GA-BPNN). The framework leverages Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) to generate Pareto-optimal solutions, balancing aesthetic preferences and engineering constraints across user groups. A case study on SUV form design validates the proposed methodology, demonstrating its efficacy in delivering optimal, user-group-targeted design solutions while accommodating individual variability and constraint interdependencies. The results highlight the framework’s potential as a generalizable approach for emotion-aware, constraint-compliant product design. Full article

Cultural ecosystem services (CES) play a vital role in rural well-being, yet their spatial patterns and local perceptions remain underexplored in many regions, including Türkiye. This study aims to assess the social values of CES in rural landscapes by focusing on the Şarkikaraağaç and Yenişarbademli districts of Isparta Province. Using Participatory Geographic Information Systems (PGIS) and the Social Values for Ecosystem Services (SolVES) models, we collected and analyzed spatial data from 836 community surveys, mapping 3771 CES value points. Sentinel-2A imagery and derived indices (NDVI, NDWI, SAVI, NDBI) were used to classify landscape infrastructures into green, blue, yellow, and grey categories. The results show that aesthetic and recreational services were most highly valued, followed by biodiversity, spiritual, and therapeutic values. Chi-square and Kruskal–Wallis tests revealed significant demographic and spatial variation in CES preferences, while Principal Component Analysis highlighted two key dimensions of value perception. MaxEnt-based modeling within SolVES confirmed the spatial distribution of CES with high predictive accuracy (AUC > 0.93). Our findings underscore the importance of integrating CES into sustainable land-use planning and suggest that infrastructure type and proximity to natural features significantly influence CES valuation in rural settings. Background and Clinical Significance: Prosthetic rehabilitation in the aesthetic zone of periodontally compromised patients presents a complex clinical challenge, requiring a careful coordination of aesthetic, functional, and biological demands. This case highlights the benefits of digital dentistry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and regular maintenance in achieving long-term success in complex rehabilitations of periodontally compromised patients. Case Presentation: This case report describes the digital minimally invasive rehabilitation of a 39-year-old male patient with Stage III periodontitis, occlusal discrepancies, tooth mobility, and an interincisal diastema. A fully digital workflow—including intraoral scanning, aesthetic previewing, and mandibular motion analysis—was employed to guide diagnosis, treatment planning, and prosthetic execution. Conservative tooth preparations using a biologically oriented approach (BOPT) were combined with customised provisional restorations to support soft tissue conditioning and functional control throughout the provisional phases. Mandibular motion tracking facilitated the design of a personalised anterior guidance to improve occlusion and correct the deep bite. The interincisal diastema was initially maintained then closed during the advanced phase of treatment based on aesthetic simulations and patient preference. One unplanned endodontic treatment was required during the provisional phase, but no other complications occurred. Conclusions: At the four-year follow-up, the patient demonstrated stable periodontal and occlusal conditions, improved clinical indices, and high satisfaction with the aesthetic outcome. Full article

This narrative review examines the efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic outcomes of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) compared to standard excision for treating non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs). A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library, covering studies published from 2000 to 2024. Key terms such as “Mohs Micrographic Surgery,” “non-melanoma skin cancer,” “recurrence rates,” “cost-effectiveness,” and “aesthetic outcomes” were utilized. Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed articles, clinical trials, and observational studies focusing on MMS and standard excision outcomes. Exclusion criteria included studies with inadequate data or those not published in English. The review highlights the superior oncologic outcomes of MMS, its cost-effectiveness over the long term, and comparable aesthetic results to standard excision principally. Methods: This narrative review was conducted following established guidelines for reporting narrative reviews. A systematic search strategy was employed across selected databases, with the last search conducted in May 2025. The search terms used were “Mohs Micrographic Surgery,” “non-melanoma skin cancer,” “recurrence rates,” “cost-effectiveness,” and “aesthetic outcomes.” Studies included were published between 2000 and 2024, in English, and provided data on the specified outcomes. Results: The majority of studies indicated that MMS offers superior recurrence-free survival rates compared to standard excision. Regarding cost-effectiveness, MMS was found to be more economical over the long term due to reduced recurrence rates and the need for fewer re-excisions. Aesthetic outcomes were comparable between MMS and standard excision, with both methods yielding satisfactory results. Discussion: The findings of this review support the use of MMS as a preferred treatment for high-risk NMSCs, particularly in cosmetically sensitive areas. While MMS may involve higher initial costs, its long-term cost-effectiveness and superior oncologic outcomes justify its use. The aesthetic outcomes associated with MMS are comparable to those of standard excision, making it a viable option for patients concerned with cosmetic results. Limitations: This review acknowledges several limitations, including the heterogeneity of study designs and potential selection biases inherent in the included studies. Additionally, the absence of randomized controlled trials comparing MMS and standard excision directly limits the strength of the conclusions drawn. Conclusions: This narrative review underscores the advantages of MMS in treating high-risk NMSCs, particularly in terms of recurrence rates and long-term cost-effectiveness. While both MMS and standard excision offer comparable aesthetic outcomes, the superior oncologic results of MMS make it a preferable option in certain clinical scenarios. Full article

In recent years, plastic decorative materials have been used in the automotive industry due to their advantages such as being environmentally friendly, aesthetic, light and economically affordable. Plastic decorative materials can exhibit high strength and metallic reflection with metal coatings. Chrome plating is generally preferred in the production of decorative plastic parts in the automotive industry. In this study, the effect of injection molding processing parameters on the metal–polymer adhesion of chrome-plated acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) was investigated. The ABS-based front grille frames are fabricated by means of using an industrial-scale injection molding machine. Then, the fabricated ABS-based front grille frame was plated with chrome by means of the electroplating method. The metal–polymer adhesion was investigated as a function of the injection molding processing parameters by means of a cross-cut test and scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, it was determined that the optimal injection process parameters, a cooling time of 18 s, a mold temperature of 70 °C, injection rates of 45-22-22-20-15-10 mm/s, and packing pressures of 110-100-100 bar, were effective in enhancing polymer–metal adhesion for the ABS-based front grille frame. Three-dimensional food printing (3DFP), a specialized application of additive manufacturing (AM), employs a layer-by-layer deposition process guided by digital image files to fabricate edible structures. Utilizing heavily modified 3D printers and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software technology allows for the precise creation of customized food items tailored to individual aesthetic preferences and nutritional requirements. Three-dimensional food printing holds significant potential in revolutionizing the food industry by enabling the production of personalized meals, enhancing the sensory dining experience, and addressing specific dietary constraints. Despite these promising applications, 3DFP remains one of the most intricate and technically demanding areas within AM, particularly in the context of modern gastronomy. Challenges such as the rheological behaviour of food materials, print stability, and the integration of cooking functions must be addressed to fully realize its capabilities. This article explores the possibilities of applying classical modified 3D printers in the food industry. The behaviour of certain recipes is also tested. Two test case scenarios are covered. The first scenario is the work and formation of a homogenized meat mass. The second scenario involves finding a chocolate recipe that is suitable for printing relatively detailed chocolate decorative elements. The current advancements, technical challenges, and future opportunities of 3DFP in the field of engineering, culinary innovation and nutritional science are also explored. Full article

3D printing (3DP) enables the development of highly customizable skincare solutions, offering precise control over formulation, structure, and aesthetic properties. Therefore, this study explores the impact of patches’ microstructure on hydration efficacy using conventional and advanced chemical/morphological confocal techniques. Moreover, it advances to the personalization of under-eye 3D-printed skincare patches and assesses consumer acceptability through emotional sensing, providing a comparative analysis against a non-3D-printed market option. The results indicate that increasing the patches’ internal porosity enhances water retention in the stratum corneum (53.0 vs. 45.4% µm). Additionally, patches were personalized to address individual skin needs/conditions (design and bioactive composition) and consumer preferences (color and fragrance). The affective analysis indicated a high level of consumer acceptance for the 3D-printed option, as evidenced by the higher valence (14.5 vs. 1.1 action units) and arousal (4.2 vs. 2.7 peaks/minute) scores. These findings highlight the potential of 3DP for personalized skincare, demonstrating how structural modifications can modulate hydration. Furthermore, the biometric-preference digital approach employed offers unparalleled versatility, enabling rapid customization to meet the unique requirements of different skin types. By embracing this advancement, a new era of personalized skincare emerges, where cutting-edge science powers solutions for enhanced skin health and consumer satisfaction. Full article

Background/Objectives: Autologous fat grafting (AFT) has become a widely used technique in breast reconstruction, offering natural aesthetics, tissue integration, and patient satisfaction. However, its clinical outcomes require comparison with implant-based reconstruction (IBR), the most common method in clinical practice. While AFT provides a more natural appearance and avoids foreign body-related complications, issues such as fat resorption, procedural variability, and oncological concerns necessitate further investigation. Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly integrated into breast imaging and reconstructive planning, improving diagnostic accuracy, procedural optimization, and complication prevention. This study aims to compare AFT and IBR while exploring AI’s role in enhancing breast reconstruction outcomes. Methods: A comprehensive review of clinical studies was conducted to evaluate the advantages, limitations, and oncological implications of AFT versus IBR. AI-driven applications in breast imaging and reconstructive planning were examined for their potential in predicting fat graft retention and optimizing implant selection. Data from systematic reviews and meta-analyses were incorporated to refine reconstruction strategies. Results: AFT offers superior aesthetic outcomes with better tissue integration but presents variability in fat resorption. IBR remains the preferred approach due to its predictability but carries risks of implant-related complications. AI technologies contribute to improved reconstruction planning, enhancing surgical precision and long-term patient outcomes. Conclusions: Optimized patient selection and long-term follow-up are essential for improving breast reconstruction techniques. AI-driven approaches provide valuable tools for enhancing procedural predictability and personalized treatment strategies. Future research should focus on refining AI algorithms and establishing standardized protocols for reconstructive decision-making. Full article

Several postmastectomy breast reconstruction techniques and procedures have been implemented, although with limited evaluation of benefits and adverse effects. We conducted a systematic review on the plane and timing of reconstruction, and on the use of nipple-sparing mastectomy, acellular dermal matrix, and autologous fat grafting as the evidence base for an updated clinical practice guideline on breast reconstruction for Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario). Both immediate and delayed reconstruction may be considered, with preferred timing depending on factors such as patient preferences, type of mastectomy, skin perfusion, comorbidities, pre-mastectomy breast size, and desired reconstructive breast size. Immediate reconstruction may provide greater psychological or quality of life benefits. In patients who are candidates for skin-sparing mastectomy and without clinical, radiological, and pathological indications of nipple-areolar complex involvement, nipple-sparing mastectomy is recommended provided it is technically feasible and acceptable aesthetic results can be achieved. Surgical factors including incision location are important to reduce necrosis by preserving blood supply and to minimize nerve damage. There is a role for both prepectoral and subpectoral implants; risks and benefits will vary, and decisions should be made during consultation between the patient and surgeons. In patients who are suitable candidates for implant reconstruction and have adequate mastectomy flap thickness and vascularity, prepectoral implants should be considered. Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has led to an increased use of prepectoral reconstruction. ADM should not be used in case of poor mastectomy flap perfusion/ischemia that would otherwise be considered unsuitable for prepectoral reconstruction. Care should be taken in the selection and handling of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) to minimize risks of infection and seroma. Limited data from small studies suggest that prepectoral reconstruction without ADM may be feasible in some patients. Autologous fat grafting is recommended as a treatment for contour irregularities, rippling following implant-based reconstruction, and to improve tissue quality of the mastectomy flap after radiotherapy. Wood flooring, valued for its natural appeal and durability, remains a preferred option, yet little research has explored perceptions specific to the Croatian market. This study investigates consumer behavior and preferences for wood flooring in Croatia, focusing on decision-making drivers, preferred materials and attributes, and differences between consumer and expert perspectives. Data were collected from 157 respondents via structured questionnaires using snowball sampling, focusing on their preferences, purchasing behavior, and evaluation of wood flooring attributes. The results were analyzed using the AHP and CRITIC methods to assess and compare the relative importance of nine selected product attributes from both consumer and expert perspectives. By integrating subjective and objective evaluations, the study offers insights into how both consumers and professionals assess wood flooring. The findings indicate a strong preference for classic, natural wood flooring, especially massive and multilayer parquet, driven by aesthetic appeal, quality, and durability. Although sustainability was positively viewed, it was not a top purchasing criterion. Notable differences in attribute prioritization were found between consumers and experts, particularly regarding price and prestige. The combined weights, which integrate consumer and expert evaluations, indicate that product quality, liability for damages, and durability are the most valued attributes, while price, ease of installation, and prestige are the least influential. Additionally, the findings aim to support manufacturers and retailers in aligning their strategies with market needs and advancing sustainable consumption practices. Full article

Background: Gestrinone is a synthetic hormone derived from 19-nortestosterone, exhibiting androgenic, anabolic, anti-progestogenic, and antiestrogenic effects. Gestrinone subcutaneous implants have been used “off label” for aesthetic purposes due to their anabolic action, promoting accelerated metabolism and muscle gain. Objective: Our goal is to conduct a systematic review focused exclusively on identifying the safety profile of gestrinone use, without addressing efficacy. Methods: This systematic review was performed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute and Cochrane Collaboration recommendations and is reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Network Meta-Analyses. This article’s searches were carried out in the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Results: A total of 32 articles were included in this study. The reported adverse events associated with the use of gestrinone were amenorrhea (41.4% of cases), acne, seborrhea (42.7% of reports), decreased libido (26.5%), and hot flushes (24.2%). Other nonspecific symptoms such as hoarseness and cramps were also fairly reported (3.5% and 18.6%, respectively). Other reported effects were associated with breast size reduction (23.7% of patients) and increased transaminases (15.1%). Most studies (40%, n = 24 studies) found significant weight gain (ranging from 0.9 to 8 kg per patient). Abnormalities in bone mineral density were reported in four studies. Conclusions: The evidence remains insufficient to fully understand the risks of gestrinone uses associated with its widespread, unregulated use. Thus, further standardized studies and regulatory oversight to ensure patient safety are needed to mitigate potential health risks. Full article

Clear aligners are a modern orthodontic solution designed to address dental malocclusions discreetly and effectively. In terms of clinical side effects, the most reported issues among aligner users are mild irritation of the oral mucosa, localized inflammation, and hypersensitivity. The use of advanced polymer materials in clear aligners, such as polyurethane and PET-G, has gained widespread acceptance due to their mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and aesthetic appeal. However, concerns persist regarding their potential to release chemical compounds. Our goal is to understand the impact of clear aligner toxicity on the oral cavity of orthodontic patients. An extensive systematic search was conducted in the electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane to identify articles with relevant data. This systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-analysis guidelines (PRISMA) to answer a question formulated according to the Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcomes. Four hundred and thirteen articles potentially relevant were identified and after applying PRISMA guidelines and inclusion/exclusion criteria, seven articles were included in this review. Our results suggest that clear aligners are generally safe, but concerns remain regarding the chemical leaching of thermoplastic materials, bacterial accumulation due to reduced saliva flow, and mild inflammatory responses. Our review emphasizes that although most materials are biocompatible, some exhibit moderate cytotoxicity, with the potential to impact these patients’ oral health, underscoring the need for continued research and improvements in material composition. Background: The Orah mandarin is an economically important variety of Citrus reticulata for citrus growers in Yunnan Province, China. Generally, the fruit peel is smooth, an attractive feature for consumer preferences. Recently, rough peels have been observed in several orchards, making the fruit aesthetically less desirable. Little is known about the mechanism of rough skin development. Methods: In this study, we used global metabolomics and a comparative transcriptomic approach to characterize the differences between smooth (CK) and rough (CP) Orah mandarin peels. Results: Our results indicate that CP fruits have a significantly larger diameter, peel weight and thickness, total soluble solids, and titratable acid content compared to CK. Metabolomic analysis detected 810 metabolites, of which 192 were differentially accumulated in CP and CK. CP is characterized by higher levels of flavonoids, amino acids and derivatives, terpenoids, and alkaloids. We also report nine compounds detected exclusively in CP, including dambonitol, 3-methyl-L-histidine, deacetylnomilinic acid, obacunoic acid, and 6-O-acetylarbutin. The transcriptome results showed that the expression of genes enriched in flavonoids, lipid, and amino acid metabolism and related pathways were consistent with the metabolome profiles. We also discuss the possible involvement of phytohormones in peel roughening. Conclusions: Overall, we present, for the first time, a detailed comparative metabolome and transcriptome profile in smooth and rough Orah mandarin peels. Our data and discussion highlight the potential mechanisms and provide a theoretical basis for the improvement of rough peel Orah mandarins. Full article
