Engagement in the arts, particularly developing skills in an art form, represents a cognitively rich activity involving attention, memory, executive function, and sensorimotor coordination. Despite widespread assumptions that artistic abilities such as drawing are innate, they are highly trainable through targeted learning. Different techniques exemplify how structured observational drawing exercises can reshape perceptual and cognitive processing. For example, the negative space drawing technique directs attention to the shapes surrounding an object rather than the object itself. Specific techniques can map onto underlying cognitive processes, and this article examines the translational potential of learning to draw as a cognitive intervention. Due to the Arts’ aesthetic nature, the benefits extend beyond cognitive and can impact modifiable salutogenic factors at large. A toolkit of drawing techniques is provided, with information on the underlying cognitive processes. By connecting the cognitive neuropsychology of observational drawing to cognitive aging, this work contributes to a growing body of evidence supporting the arts as a vehicle for brain health, with particular promise in an aging global population. As technology transforms the landscape of arts and aesthetics, the cognitive value of embodied artmaking is underscored. Full article

Balcony gardening has become increasingly relevant in dense urban environments, providing residents with a way to address limited access to green spaces and reduced everyday contact with nature. Despite the growing importance of urban green infrastructure (GI), there is a significant lack of understanding of balcony gardening as a decentralized, distributed, and resident-driven component of urban greening, as it is often viewed as an isolated hobby. This study conceptualises balcony gardening as a micro-scale, resident-driven component of urban GI. Data were collected in Sweden via a semi-structured online survey. The results show that among the surveyed group, balcony gardening is mainly motivated by food self-provision (77%) and aesthetic enjoyment (67%), while also providing intangible benefits such as improved mood (65%) and reduced stress (36%). Knowledge is primarily acquired through self-learning (90%) and digital communities, compensating for the lack of formal support. Respondents perceived balcony gardening as falling outside formal governance structures, with limited interaction with local authorities. Respondents face structural barriers, including limited space (51%) and insufficient lighting (41%). The findings highlight the governance gaps of a practice that respondents associate with multiple urban sustainability functions, pointing to the need for more inclusive planning approaches. The design of urban pedestrian–cycling routes is of great importance for the sustainable development of cities. Properly designed routes encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport. They also bring numerous environmental and social benefits. The study examines how greenery and spatial characteristics influence citizens’ aesthetic perception of pedestrian and cycling corridors. The Scenic Beauty Estimation (SBE) method was used to assess visual landscape quality based on users’ subjective evaluations. A total of 301 participants evaluated 20 photographs taken in Lublin, Poland, depicting different types of urban routes, including sidewalks, cycling paths, and park pathways, using a five-point rating scale. Statistical analyses (ANOVA, post hoc tests, and composite and differential variable analyses) were conducted to identify patterns in preferences. The results indicate that greenery is the dominant factor shaping landscape preferences across all age and gender groups. Age plays a stronger role than gender in differentiating evaluations: younger participants prefer more natural and greener environments, whereas older participants favor more ordered and less green spaces. Gender effects are limited and primarily relate to preferences for natural landscapes. An additional finding concerns the role of benches, which were most preferred by younger and middle-aged women, suggesting a broader social and functional interpretation of this element. Overall, the results highlight the importance of greenery in shaping the perceived attractiveness of urban routes. They also indicate the key spatial features that encourage people to use these routes, which affects the use of sustainable modes of transport as well as residents’ health. They also demonstrate the usefulness of the SBE method in planning, design and managing user-friendly and sustainable urban routes. Full article

Non-surgical aesthetic procedures, including energy-based devices and injectable therapies, have become increasingly popular worldwide, creating distinct skincare needs for peri-procedural recovery and long-term post-procedure maintenance. This narrative review summarizes current evidence on cosmetic peptides as adjunctive skincare across both phases. A structured literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar, only including peptides with an International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) designation and defined amino acid sequences. Available clinical evidence suggests potential roles for cosmetic peptides in two interconnected scenarios. In peri-procedural care—spanning pre-procedure conditioning through post-procedure recovery—signal peptides, carrier peptides, and antimicrobial peptides have demonstrated benefits in accelerating healing and reducing erythema, edema, and bruising. As a long-term adjuvant strategy, signal peptides, neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptides, and whitening peptides may contribute to collagen remodeling, wrinkle reduction, and pigment control. Although enzyme-inhibiting peptides currently lack direct clinical evidence, their proposed mechanisms suggest potential for future investigation. However, the evidence remains limited by small sample sizes, short follow-up periods, heterogeneous peptide formulations and treatment protocols, and frequent use of proprietary multi-ingredient products. Overall, cosmetic peptides represent a potential adjunctive approach in aesthetic medicine. Larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to establish their clinical value and long-term safety. Full article

Background/Objectives: Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA), originally developed for Type II Diabetes, has become popular for weight loss due to its ability to suppress appetite and promote fat loss. Although semaglutide’s metabolic benefits are well established, many patients have also reported unintended facial changes including facial fat atrophy, skin laxity, and an aged appearance, collectively known as “Ozempic face.” Methods: To better understand these dermatological effects, a narrative review was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar to identify relevant peer-reviewed literature published between 2010 and 2025. Search terms included “semaglutide,” “GLP-1 receptor agonists,” “Ozempic face,” and “facial fat loss.” Peer-reviewed clinical studies, reviews, and relevant commentary were included; articles not written in English or unrelated to weight-loss aesthetic outcomes were excluded. Results: Weight loss induced by semaglutide is distinctly characterized by rapid, disproportionate depletion of sensitive facial fat compartments such as the malar, temporal, and buccal regions. Preliminary findings also suggest that GLP-1RAs may impact dermal white adipose tissue, affecting collagen production and elastin structure. Findings highlight both the biological mechanisms underlying facial aging in semaglutide users and the current lack of research-based strategies to prevent or treat these changes. Conclusions: Although aesthetic interventions such as dermal fillers and energy-based treatments may help restore volume and contour, more research is needed to characterize long-term effects and develop objective clinical guidelines. Increased counseling and awareness regarding GLP-1RA-induced facial changes should be integrated into patient care, especially as these agents continue to expand in popularity. Full article

Anti-obesity medications (AOMs), led by the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) semaglutide and liraglutide and the dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist tirzepatide, have produced substantial weight reduction and growing signals of benefit that extend well beyond adiposity. These agents are now discussed in relation to longevity and aesthetic medicine, raising the question of whether their effects reach ageing biology and appearance. This narrative review (PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Clinical trial registries; January 2010–June 2026) integrates mechanistic studies, randomised cardiovascular and renal outcome trials, ageing-biomarker analyses, body-composition data, and patient-facing aesthetic phenomena. The evidence indicates that AOMs reduce major cardiovascular events, slow kidney and liver disease progression, and lower all-cause mortality in selected populations; exploratory proteomic and epigenetic analyses further suggest effects partly independent of weight loss, though these do not establish slowed ageing. Newer multi-receptor agents act with greater metabolic specificity: glucagon-containing agents such as survodutide and the triple agonist retatrutide preferentially reduce visceral and hepatic fat (liver-fat reductions of roughly 60–80% in places), a quality of weight loss arguably more relevant to healthspan than its quantity. Concurrently, rapid large-magnitude weight loss drives soft-tissue and appearance changes colloquially termed “Ozempic face” and “Ozempic body”, alongside accelerated skin laxity and loss of lean mass, the latter tempered by data showing lean-loss proportions comparable to established agents. Background and Objectives: Nostril aperture symmetry is an important component of nasal base aesthetics after rhinoplasty. However, nostril retainers are commonly used in reconstructive nasal surgery; their role after primary aesthetic rhinoplasty remains insufficiently defined. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of early postoperative nostril retainer use on nostril aperture symmetry after primary rhinoplasty using ImageJ-based morphometric measurements. Materials and Methods: This prospective, non-randomized comparative observational study included 52 patients who underwent primary open structural rhinoplasty. A total of 26 patients used a nostril retainer postoperatively, whereas 26 patients did not. Standardized basal-view photographs were obtained at postoperative week 1 and postoperative month 3. Right and left nostril aperture area, height, and width were measured using ImageJ software version 1.54 g after individual calibration with a millimetric ruler. Changes in symmetry indices from week 1 to month 3 were compared between groups. Results: Baseline week-1 symmetry indices were comparable between groups. The increase in area symmetry index from postoperative week 1 to month 3 was significantly greater in the nostril retainer group than in the control group (3.08 ± 4.99 vs. −1.00 ± 4.86; mean difference: 4.08; 95% CI: 1.34–6.82; p = 0.004). Changes in height symmetry index and width symmetry index did not differ significantly between groups. Conclusions: Early postoperative nostril retainer use was associated with improved nostril area symmetry after primary rhinoplasty. This benefit may be better reflected in global area-based symmetry than in isolated height or width measurements. Nostril retainers may represent a simple, noninvasive adjunct for selected patients at risk of early postoperative nostril asymmetry. Full article

Empirical evidence for AI formative assessment combined with gamification remains scarce in subjective aesthetic disciplines. This study examined whether such integration enhances metacognitive regulation in undergraduate color education and whether the effect is conditional on learners’ prior AI credibility belief. A four-arm, four-wave cluster-randomized controlled trial (N = 540, 24 classes, eight cross-allocated teachers) compared gamification with AI feedback, gamification with dose-matched human feedback, gamification only, and traditional instruction; the primary outcome was metacognitive regulation measured 4 weeks post-intervention. Gamification produced a small-to-medium effect over traditional instruction (d = 0.34, p_Holm = 0.015). AI and human feedback did not differ on average (d = 0.07; underpowered). Autoregressive mediation confirmed metacognitive regulation as a longitudinal mediator of intervention effects on motivation and achievement. On an exploratory basis, prior AI credibility belief moderated the AI-versus-human indirect effect on motivation (p_Holm = 0.034) but not achievement (p_Holm = 0.054), with higher-belief learners benefiting; given the limited power of the AI-versus-human comparison, this conditional pattern is reported as a tentative finding rather than as confirmatory evidence. These findings extend self-determination theory and the self-regulated learning framework to aesthetic education and provide preliminary support for the deployment of prior-trust-aware AI feedback, pending replication. Semaglutide and tirzepatide, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)/GLP-1 receptor agonists, respectively, have revolutionized the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. Beyond their established metabolic indications, emerging preclinical and clinical evidence suggests these incretin-based therapies exert pleiotropic effects across multiple organ systems through mechanisms extending beyond glycemic control and weight reduction. This comprehensive review synthesizes current evidence for unconventional applications of semaglutide and tirzepatide across five distinct therapeutic domains: oncology, psychiatry and addiction medicine, orthopedics, aesthetic medicine, and human reproduction. In oncology, both agents demonstrate antitumor activity primarily through immune and metabolic reprogramming rather than direct cytotoxicity, with promising signals in pancreatic, thyroid, breast, and colorectal cancers. In psychiatry, modulation of mesolimbic dopamine reward pathways and GABAergic neurotransmission underlies robust preclinical and observational evidence for reducing alcohol use disorder, substance use, and binge-eating behaviors. Orthopedic applications include clinically meaningful improvements in knee osteoarthritis pain and function, though bone health signals remain mixed. Aesthetic medicine faces the dual challenge of managing GLP-1 receptor agonist-associated facial volume loss while exploring therapeutic potential in inflammatory dermatoses. In reproductive medicine, metabolic improvements translate to benefits in polycystic ovary syndrome and male fertility, though periconception safety concerns persist. Across all domains, evidence derives predominantly from preclinical models, observational cohorts, and pharmacoepidemiologic studies, with randomized controlled trials remaining limited. This review critically evaluates mechanisms, efficacy signals, safety considerations, and research priorities for each application domain, providing a roadmap for translating unconventional uses of semaglutide and tirzepatide into evidence-based clinical practice. Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to show a standardized four-step technique that can offer individually personalized full-mouth therapy for each complex dental patient with erosive tooth wear resulting from bulimia nervosa, focusing on the individualized vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO), functional and aesthetic stability, and patient-reported outcomes, including dental symptoms, nutrition, self-perception, and quality of life. Methods: The following steps are proposed for structured full-mouth rehabilitation. Step 1: Intraoral diagnosis via a single computer-aided impression. Step 2: Determination of a new adequate vertical dimension of occlusion and soft tissue prediction. Step 3: Removable sample dentures—prototypes. Step 4: Non-prep/minimal-prep crowns as the long-term provisional/definitive treatment. Results: Nine adults (11% male) with dental erosion caused by bulimia nervosa (78%), gastro-esophageal reflux (11%), and soft drinks (11%) were part of this cohort. The novel digital workflow enabled restoration of an individualized vertical dimension of occlusion, stable occlusion, appropriate centric and eccentric contacts, biomimetic dental anatomy, harmonious tooth proportions, and optimized red–white aesthetics. Dental problems (hypersensitivity, dental pain), nutritional behavior, body perception, and quality of life improved after the full-mouth rehabilitation. Conclusions: The presented digital workflow offers a promising approach for full-mouth rehabilitation in patients with severe dental erosion, particularly associated with bulimia nervosa, enabling structured restoration planning and stepwise evaluation of the vertical dimension of occlusion and functional adaptation. Prospective studies with larger cohorts are needed to confirm long-term clinical outcomes and patient-reported benefits. Full article

Urban parks, as essential urban green infrastructure, contribute significantly to public health, psychological restoration, and socially sustainable urban living. However, existing research has primarily emphasized landscape aesthetics while paying comparatively limited attention to routine landscape maintenance as an important component of sustainable urban park governance. Drawing on Stress Recovery Theory (SRT), this study examines how landscape maintenance quality influences perceived well-being through perceived safety and restorative experience. Survey data were collected from 278 urban park users in Wangjianglou Park, Chengdu, China, and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that maintenance quality positively affects perceived well-being both directly and indirectly through perceived safety and restorative experience, which serve as significant mediators. Multi-group analysis further reveals demographic differences, with female users demonstrating stronger safety-related responses and older users exhibiting stronger restorative and perceived well-being benefits associated with maintenance conditions. The findings highlight the importance of routine park maintenance in supporting perceived safety, psychological restoration, inclusiveness, and the long-term usability of urban public spaces. The study advances understanding of how maintenance practices shape psychological restoration and urban perceived well-being while providing empirical support for sustainable urban green space management and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), particularly small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), are lipid bilayer-delimited particles involved in intercellular communication through the transfer of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids; many products and studies in aesthetic medicine refer to these preparations as exosomes, although endosomal origin is not always demonstrated. This review examines current evidence on the mechanisms, clinical effectiveness, safety, therapeutic applications, and regulatory challenges of EV- and sEV-based interventions, complemented by an exploratory qualitative assessment of physicians’ perceptions regarding clinical implementation. A narrative review of studies indexed in Scopus and PubMed was conducted with emphasis on skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, wound healing, pigmentation disorders, and inflammatory dermatoses, and responses from 12 aesthetic physicians in Colombia were analyzed qualitatively. Available evidence suggests that EVs/sEVs may promote extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis, immunomodulation, and tissue repair, with potential benefits across several aesthetic and regenerative indications. However, the literature remains heterogeneous and limited by variability in biologic sources, isolation and administration protocols, insufficient high-quality clinical trials, and unresolved regulatory issues. Reports of adverse reactions linked to unapproved products marketed as exosome-based formulations further highlight the need for stronger oversight. EVs, particularly sEVs, often referred to as exosomes in the aesthetic literature, remain a promising therapeutic platform, but safe clinical integration requires rigorous validation, technical standardization, and robust regulatory frameworks. This study aims to design and develop an innovative manual kitchen tool that integrates the functionalities of a Lazy Susan and a Dough Kneader into a two-in-one setup, addressing common challenges experienced by students during laboratory activities—crowdedness, inconvenience, and physical strain associated with manual dough kneading. Employing a descriptive–developmental research design, the study focused on the prototype’s conceptualization, construction, and evaluation in terms of its design, construction quality and availability of materials, functionality, usability, aesthetics, modularity, and ergonomics. Survey questionnaires were administered to faculty members and field experts to assess the overall acceptability of the product. The study was conducted at Caraga State University—Cabadbaran City. Results indicated a high level of acceptability across all evaluative criteria. Although minor design issues emerged during testing, these were addressed and refined accordingly. Findings suggest that the two-in-one Lazy Susan and Dough Kneader offers significant benefits in terms of space-saving, user convenience, and manual labor reduction. With its practical design and market viability, the product is a promising tool for educational and domestic culinary settings. Further research is recommended to enhance the tool’s features, particularly by exploring the integration of solar-powered functionality to improve efficiency and sustainability. Full article

Barriers, Benefits and Complications of Orthodontic Treatment in Patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa: A Patient-Reported Cross-Sectional Study

Introduction: Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition with skin and mucosal fragility. Patients with EB present extra- and intraoral manifestations that can limit their access to dental treatment, including orthodontic treatment. This research aims to determine the barriers, benefits and complications of orthodontic treatment reported by a group of patients living with EB. Materials and Methods: This observational study included n = 101 patients with a genetic diagnosis of EB. After their regular dental consultation, they were interviewed about factors they considered barriers to accessing orthodontic treatment. Those who underwent orthodontic treatment (n = 24) reflected about their perceived benefits and complications from the therapy. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics and multiple Fisher’s exact tests with false discovery rate (FDR) correction. Results: The most prevalent barrier was that most patients with EB had never been evaluated by an orthodontist (74.3%), even if the teams had an orthodontist. Other barriers included distance to the treatment centre (42.6%), poor oral hygiene (27.7%) and poor oral health status (26.7%). Patients with limited mouth opening perceived greater treatment benefit compared to those without this limitation (φ = −0.28, p = 0.0242), while an increasing age was associated with a reduced perception of treatment benefit (Cramér’s V = 0.29, p = 0.0404). Among those who underwent orthodontic treatment, the most prevalent benefits of orthodontic treatment were aesthetic improvement (62.5%), oral hygiene improvement (20.8%) and occlusal stability (12.5%), while the most prevalent complications were wounds and ulcers (75.0%), gingivitis (54.1%), poor oral hygiene (41.6%) and caries (33.3%). Discussion: People living with EB reported different barriers to orthodontic treatment relating to psychosocial and professional aspects, which vary according to the EB type and severity. The involvement of orthodontists in multidisciplinary special care teams and the reduction in access barriers to dental specialities can be facilitated by a more comprehensive understanding of conditions such as EB. Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) offer significant potential for energy-efficient building renovations by seamlessly integrating renewable energy generation into the built environment. This work highlights the strategic opportunity for BIPV within the current European and international context, where the building stock faces an increasingly urgent need for large-scale rehabilitation. BIPV solutions and products for building retrofit are reviewed holistically considering thermal insulation, solar control, daylighting, architectural design, aesthetics, and electrical performance to optimise energy savings and increase social acceptance. A selection of nine international case studies illustrates the versatility of BIPV across diverse building typologies, including projects focused on heritage preservation for which targeted measures are proposed. Despite the opportunities, BIPV adoption remains limited, primarily due to regulatory, economic, and socio-cultural barriers. The specific challenges of BIPV retrofitting in heritage and protected buildings are also examined. Multiple studies have demonstrated BIPV cost-effectiveness, especially when fiscal incentives, environmental co-benefits, and architectural factors are considered. Nonetheless, affordability remains a barrier for many households, highlighting the need for comprehensive financial support to accelerate market uptake. This review is intended to provide a broad audience—including researchers, architects, building professionals, and decision-makers—with a comprehensive, structured overview of BIPV renovation opportunities.
