To solve the present housing crisis, the Support for Access to Housing Program, in the context of PRR, mainly focuses on social housing to be built or on housing of social interest to be regenerated. To approach this problem, a research question was raised: “What is the significance of the existing cooperative housing in solving the current housing crisis?” To analyze this issue, a multiple case study was adopted, comparing a collective dwelling of cooperative promotion at controlled costs in Caselas (1980s–1990s) with Expo Urbe (2000–2007) in Parque das Nações, a symbol of the new sustainable cooperative housing, which targets a population with a higher standard of living and thus is excluded from the PRR plan. These cases revealed the discrepancy created by the Cooperative Code of 1998 and its consequences for the urban regeneration of this heritage. They show that Caselas, built in a residential urban neighborhood, is strongly attached to a community, provides good social inclusion for vulnerable groups at more affordable prices, and it is eligible for urban regeneration and reuse (for renting or buying). However, the reuse of Caselcoop’s edifices cannot compromise their cultural and residential values or threaten the individual integrity. Full article

Test–Retest Reliability of Task-Oriented Strength and Object Position in a Box Lifting Task Using the Activities of Daily Living Test and Training Device (ADL-TTD) in Children with Unilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Purpose: This study investigates the test–retest reliability of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and integrated object positioning during bimanual box lifting tasks in children with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy (USCP), using the Activities of Daily Living Test and Training Device (ADL-TTD). Materials and Methods: Utilizing an explorative cross-sectional design, the study recruited 47 children with USCP. The ADL-TTD, equipped with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for precise object positioning, measured MVC, and object position in 3D space in a cross-sectional measurement containing two measurements in a fixed time period. Results: The findings demonstrated good test–retest reliability for MVC, with an ICCagreement of 0.95 for the mean MVC value. Additionally, good reliability was observed for object positioning in different directions measured with an IMU, with ICCagreement ranging from 0.82 to 0.86 degrees. Regarding the standard error of measurement (SEM), the SEMagreement for the mean MVC value was 5.94 kg, while the SEMagreement for object positioning was 1.48, 5.39, and 3.43 degrees, respectively. Conclusions: These results indicate that the ADL-TTD demonstrates good test–retest reliability for both MVC and object positioning, making it a valuable tool for analyzing this population in cross-sectional research by providing reliable measures of task-oriented strength and object manipulation. However, the relatively high SEMagreement, particularly in MVC, suggests that caution is needed when using this tool for repeated testing over time. This pioneering approach could significantly contribute to tailored assessment and training for children with USCP, highlighting the importance of integrating task-specific strength and positional accuracy into therapeutic interventions. Background/Objectives: Predicting comprehensive patient characteristics is essential for optimal individualized rehabilitation plans for acute stroke patients. However, current models primarily predict single outcomes. This study aimed to assess the applicability of latent class analysis (LCA) in rehabilitation practice by identifying comprehensive characteristics and associated predictors in acute stroke patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study using the Japan Association of Rehabilitation Database, including 10,270 stroke patients admitted to 37 acute-care hospitals between January 2005 and March 2016. Patients were classified using LCA based on outcomes at discharge, including Functional Independence Measure (FIM), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) subscales for upper-extremity function, length of hospitalization, and discharge destination. Predictor variables at admission included age, FIM scores, NIHSS subscales for upper-extremity function, stroke type, and daily rehabilitation volume. Results: 6881 patients were classified into nine distinct classes (class size: 4–29%). Class 1, representing the mildest cases, was noted for independent ambulation and good upper limb function. Class 2 comprised those with the most severe clinical outcome. Other classes exhibited a gradient of severity, commonly encountered in clinical practice. For instance, Class 7 included right-sided paralysis with preserved motor activities of daily living (ADLs) and modified dependence in cognitive functions, such as communication. All predictors at admission were significantly associated with class membership at discharge (p < 0.001). Conclusions: LCA effectively identified unique clinical subgroups among acute stroke patients and demonstrated that key admission variables could predict class membership. This approach offers a promising insight into targeted, personalized rehabilitation practice for acute stroke patients. Full article

The ongoing decade of UN restoration matches with the European goal of bringing nature back into our lives, including in urban systems, and Nature Restoration Regulation. Within such a framework, this work is aimed at highlighting the ecological rationale and strategic value of an NRRP measure devoted to forest restoration in Italian Metropolitan Cities, and at assessing respective preliminary results. Therefore, the measure’s overarching goal (not to create urban parks or gardens, but activate forest recovery), geographic extent and scope (over 4000 ha and more than 4 million planted trees and shrubs across the country), plantation model (mandatory use of native species consistent with local potential vegetation, density of 1000 seedlings per ha, use of at least four tree and four shrub species in each project, with a minimum proportion of 70% for trees, certified provenance for reproductive material), and compulsory management activities (maintenance and replacement of any dead plants for at least five years), are herein shown and explained under an ecological perspective. Current implementation outcomes were thus assessed in terms of coherence and expected biodiversity benefits, especially with respect to ecological and biogeographic consistency of planted forests, representativity in relation to national and European plant diversity, biogeographic interest and conservation concern of adopted plants, and potential contribution to the EU Habitats Directive. Compliance with international strategic goals and normative rules, along with recognizable advantages of the measure and limitations to be solved, are finally discussed. In conclusion, the forestation model proposed for the Italian Metropolitan Cities proved to be fully applicable in its ecological rationale, with expected benefits in terms of biodiversity support plainly met, and even exceeded, at the current stage of implementation, especially in terms of the contribution to protected habitats. These promising preliminary results allow the model to be recognized at the international level as a good practice that may help achieve protection targets and sustainable development goals within and beyond urban systems. In order to promote healthy aging, it is important to know older people’s perceptions of healthy aging. The aim of this study is to conduct a Turkish validity and reliability study of the Healthy Aging Perception Scale for Older People with Chronic Diseases. This study was conducted between November and December 2023 with older adult people living in a region in eastern Turkey. A total of 210 older people were included in the sample for the exploratory factor analysis and 214 for the confirmatory factor analysis. A Sociodemographic Information Form and Healthy Aging Perception Scale was used to collect the data of the study. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 22.0. Confirmatory factor analysis for the 18-item scale, a four-factor structure with an eigenvalue exceeding 1, was obtained, and it was determined that the factor loadings ranged between 0.834 and 0.637 and the total variance explained was 64.619%. The confirmatory factor analysis of the goodness of fit indices was found to be at an acceptable level. CMIN/DF = 2.834, RMSEA = 0.05, CFI = 0.929, TLI = 0.910, NFI = 0.920, and GFI = 0.901. Cronbach’s alpha of the scale was determined to be 0.826, and the test–retest reliability coefficient was determined to be 0.822. Factor analysis showed a better model fit, and it was determined that the Healthy Aging Perception Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool in determining the perceptions of the healthy aging of older people with chronic diseases. Introduction: Living with coeliac disease (CD) requires lifelong adherence to a strict gluten-free diet (GFD). This study assessed GFD adherence, symptom burden, autoimmune comorbidities, and dietetic support among Hellenic CD patients. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was completed by 272 adults with CD. Adherence was measured using the Hellenic version of the Celiac Dietary Adherence Test (H-CDAT). Results: The mean H-CDAT score was 13.5 ± 3.5. Good adherence was observed in 44.9% of participants, while 14.3% showed poor adherence. Symptom burden was high: 39.3% reported partial symptom resolution and 3.7% had ongoing symptoms. Among patients, 25.0% had multiple autoimmune conditions, ranging from two to four. Dietetic support was limited: 61.5% were not referred to a dietitian at diagnosis, and 75.4% had no regular follow-up. Higher H-CDAT scores, indicating poorer adherence, were significantly associated with younger age (p = 0.014), earlier diagnosis (p = 0.01), and ongoing symptoms (p < 0.01). Age at diagnosis was also positively associated with autoimmune comorbidity count. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for earlier diagnosis, improved access to structured dietetic support, and individualized care to optimize GFD adherence and improve outcomes in patients with CD. Grounded in health behavior theory, this study examined patterns of preventive health behavior in a culturally diverse, multilingual region of northern Italy using data from a representative population survey (n = 2090). Preventive behaviors were assessed using the 16-item Good Health Practices (GHP-16) scale. Latent profile analysis (LPA) identified five behavioral profiles, ranging from ‘Globally Low Engagers’ to ‘Comprehensive High Engagers’. Binary logistic regression compared ‘Globally Low Engagers’ to ‘Broadly Moderate Preventers’, examining predictors including gender, age, education, language, chronic disease status, health literacy (HLS-EU-Q16), patient activation (PAM-10), mistrust of health information, living situation, and healthcare employment. The results showed that men, younger adults, individuals with low patient activation, those living alone, and respondents with high mistrust of health information had higher odds of belonging to the low engagement group. Health literacy and language group membership were not significantly associated with the profile membership. Item-level comparisons revealed gender differences in information-seeking, oral hygiene, and dietary behaviors, with men reporting lower engagement. These findings support a segmentation-based understanding of preventive health behavior and highlight the need to address personal capacities and contextual barriers in interventions while challenging assumptions of uniformly higher female health vigilance. Since the start of the energy crisis in 2020, the Dutch government has introduced various programmes aimed at alleviating energy poverty among low-income households. This research examines the effects of three specific interventions—energy coaching, home renovations, and white goods schemes—on a range of energy poverty-related aspects, including living comfort, physical and mental health, energy costs, financial concerns, social connection, neighbourhood involvement, and sustainable behaviour. While previous studies have mostly investigated these interventions in isolation, this research offers a comparative analysis to explore how their impacts differ and how they may complement one another. This research, comparing an intervention group and control, shows that energy coaches, renovations, and white goods schemes each have positive effects on various aspects of energy poverty. However, the nature and magnitude of these effects differ by type of support measure. Renovations are the most effective overall, significantly improving living comfort, physical health, and reducing energy costs. White goods schemes primarily reduce moisture and mould in dwellings and have a notable positive impact on mental health. Energy coaches contribute to improved living comfort, lower energy costs, and uniquely enhance community involvement. The complementary nature of these interventions highlights the potential added value of integrated or combined approaches to tackling energy poverty. Full article

There is a lack of systematic research on the comprehensive regulatory effects of urea and organic fertilizer application on soil quality and cotton yield in summer direct-seeded cotton fields in the Yangtze River Basin. Additionally, there is a redundancy of indicators in the cotton field soil quality evaluation system and a lack of reports on constructing a minimum dataset to evaluate the soil quality status of cotton fields. We aim to accurately and efficiently evaluate soil quality in cotton fields and screen nitrogen application measures that synergistically improve soil quality, cotton yield, and nitrogen fertilizer utilization efficiency. Taking the summer live broadcast cotton field in Jiangxi Province as the research object, four treatments, including CK without nitrogen application, CF with conventional nitrogen application, N1 with nitrogen reduction, and N2 with nitrogen reduction and organic fertilizer application, were set up for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024. A total of 15 physical, chemical, and biological indicators of the 0–20 cm plow layer soil were measured in each treatment. A minimum dataset model was constructed to evaluate and verify the soil quality status of different nitrogen application treatments and to explore the physiological mechanisms of nitrogen application on yield performance and stability from the perspectives of cotton source–sink relationship, nitrogen use efficiency, and soil quality. The minimum dataset for soil quality evaluation in cotton fields consisted of five indicators: soil bulk density, moisture content, total nitrogen, organic carbon, and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, with a simplification rate of 66.67% for the evaluation indicators. The soil quality index calculated based on the minimum dataset (MDS) was significantly positively correlated with the soil quality index of the total dataset (TDS) (R2 = 0.904, p < 0.05). The model validation parameters RMSE was 0.0733, nRMSE was 13.8561%, and the d value was 0.9529, all indicating that the model simulation effect had reached a good level or above. The order of soil quality index based on MDS and TDS for CK, CF, N1, and N2 treatments was CK < N1 < CF < N2. The soil quality index of N2 treatment under MDS significantly increased by 16.70% and 26.16% compared to CF and N1 treatments, respectively. Compared with CF treatment, N2 treatment significantly increased nitrogen fertilizer partial productivity by 27.97%, 31.06%, and 21.77%, respectively, over a three-year period while maintaining the same biomass, yield level, yield stability, and yield sustainability. Meanwhile, N1 treatment had the risk of significantly reducing both boll density and seed cotton yield. Compared with N1 treatment, N2 treatment could significantly increase the biomass of reproductive organs during the flower and boll stage by 23.62~24.75% and the boll opening stage by 12.39~15.44%, respectively, laying a material foundation for the improvement in yield and yield stability. Under CF treatment, the cotton field soil showed a high degree of soil physical property barriers, while the N2 treatment reduced soil barriers in indicators such as bulk density, soil organic carbon content, and soil carbon-to-nitrogen ratio by 0.04, 0.04, 0.08, and 0.02, respectively, compared to CF treatment. In summary, the minimum dataset (MDS) retained only 33.3% of the original indicators while maintaining high accuracy, demonstrating the model’s efficiency. After reducing nitrogen by 20%, applying 10% total nitrogen organic fertilizer could substantially improve cotton biomass, cotton yield performance, yield stability, and nitrogen partial productivity while maintaining soil quality levels. This study also assessed yield stability and sustainability, not just productivity alone. The comprehensive nitrogen fertilizer management (reducing N + organic fertilizer) under the experimental conditions has high practical applicability in the intensive agricultural system in southern China. Aiming for convenience and the low cost of goods transfer between towns, this paper proposes a trade hub location and allocation method based on a novel artificial eagle-inspired optimization algorithm. Firstly, the trade hub location and allocation model is established, taking the total cost consisting of construction and transportation costs as the objective function. Then, to solve the nonlinear model, a novel artificial eagle optimization algorithm (AEOA) is proposed by simulating the collective migration behaviors of artificial eagles when facing a severe living environment. Three main strategies are designed to help the algorithm effectively explore the decision space: the situational awareness and analysis stage, the free exploration stage, and the flight formation integration stage. In the first stage, artificial eagles are endowed with intelligent thinking, thus generating new positions closer to the optimum by perceiving the current situation and updating their positions. In the free exploration stage, artificial eagles update their positions by drawing on the current optimal position, ensuring more suitable habitats can be found. Meanwhile, inspired by the consciousness of teamwork, a formation flying method based on distance information is introduced in the last stage to improve stability and success rate. Test results from the CEC2022 suite indicate that the AEOA can obtain better solutions for 11 functions out of all 12 functions compared with 8 other popular algorithms. Faster convergence speed and stronger stability of the AEOA are also proved by quantitative analysis. Finally, the trade hub location and allocation method is proposed by combining the optimization model and the AEOA. By solving two typical simulated cases, this method can select suitable hubs with lower construction costs and achieve reasonable allocation between hubs and the rest of the towns to reduce transportation costs. Thus, it is used to solve the trade hub location and allocation problem of Henan province in China to help the government make sound decisions. Full article

Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) using next-generation sequencing (NGS) has been proposed to improve selection by identifying euploid embryos. However, its effectiveness in women of advanced maternal age remains unclear due to limited randomized data. This pilot trial assessed the feasibility of a full-scale RCT comparing PGT-A to morphology-based selection in women aged 35–42. Methods: This single-centre, two-arm parallel RCT (NCT05009745) enrolled women aged 35–42 undergoing IVF/ICSI with ≥3 good-quality day-3 embryos. Participants were randomized (1:1) to either embryo selection by morphology with fresh transfer or PGT-A with frozen transfer of a single euploid embryo. Allocation concealment was achieved via a secure web-based randomization platform; patients and clinicians were unblinded, but the biostatistician remained blinded. The primary outcome was feasibility of recruitment, randomization, and adherence. Results: Between June 2021 and January 2023, 138 women consented (recruitment rate: 55.8%, 95% CI: 49.7–62.0%) and 100 were randomized. Protocol adherence was 94%. Barriers to recruitment included preference for private PGT-A (19%) or fresh transfer (6%). Among biopsied embryos, 51.4% were euploid and 6.6% low-level mosaic. Intention-to-treat analysis showed no significant differences between PGT-A and control groups in clinical pregnancy rate (50% vs. 40%), live birth rate (50% vs. 38%), or miscarriage rate (12% vs. 8%). Cumulative live birth rate after up to three SETs was 72% vs. 52%, respectively (p > 0.05). No multiple pregnancies occurred. Conclusions: RCTs of PGT-A in older women are feasible. A multicentre design with broader inclusion criteria could improve recruitment and allow better assessment of clinical benefit. Full article

Salmonella is a rapidly spreading and widespread zoonotic infectious disease that poses a serious threat to the safety of both poultry and human lives. Therefore, the timely detection of Salmonella in foods and animals has become an urgent need for food safety. This work describes the construction of an aptamer-based sensor for Salmonella detection, using Fe3O4 magnetic beads and Ag@Au core–shell nanoparticles-embedded 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4MBA). Leveraging the high affinity between biotin and streptavidin, aptamers were conjugated to Fe3O4 magnetic beads. These beads were then combined with Ag@4MBA@Au nanoparticles functionalized with complementary aptamers through hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions, yielding a SERS-based aptamer sensor with optimized Raman signals from 4MBA. When target bacteria are present, aptamer-conjugated magnetic beads exhibit preferential binding to the bacteria, leading to a decrease in the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) signal. And it was used for the detection of five different serotypes of Salmonella, respectively, and the results showed that the aptamer sensor exhibited a good linear relationship between the concentration range of 102–108 CFU/mL and LOD is 35.51 CFU/mL. The SERS aptasensor was utilized for the detection of spiked authentic samples with recoveries between 94.0 and 100.4%, which proved the usability of the method and helped to achieve food safety detection. This study aimed to predict the potential habitats of Luciola unmunsana using a species distribution model (SDM). Luciola unmunsana is an endemic species that lives only in South Korea, and because its females do not have genus wings and are less fluid, it is difficult to collect, so research related to its distribution and restoration is relatively understudied. Therefore, this study predicted the potential habitats of Luciola unmunsana across South Korea using the single model Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) and a multi-model ensemble model to prepare basic data necessary for a conservation and habitat restoration plan for the species. A total of 39 points of occurrence were built based on public data and prior research from the Jeonbuk Green Environment Support Center (JGESC), the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR). Among the input variables, climate variables were based on the shared socioeconomic pathway (SSP) scenario-based ecological climate index, while nonclimate variables were based on topography, land cover maps, and the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI). The main findings of this study are summarized below. First, in predicting Luciola unmunsana potential habitats, the EVI, water network analysis, land cover, and annual precipitation (Bio12) were identified as good predictors in both models. Accordingly, areas with high vegetation activity in their forests, adjacent to water resources, and stable humidity were predicted as potential habitats. Second, by overlaying the predicted potential habitats and highly significant variables, we found that areas with high vegetation vigor within their forests, proximity to water systems, and relatively high annual precipitation, which can maintain stable humidity, are potential habitats for Luciola unmunsana. Third, literature surveys used to predict potential habitat sites, including Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Yeongam-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Mudeungsan Mountain, Gwangju-si, Korea, and Gijang-gun, Busan-si, Korea, confirmed the occurrence of Luciola unmunsana. This study is significant in that it is the first to develop a regional SDM for Luciola unmunsana, whose population is declining due to urbanization. In addition, by applying various environmental variables that reflect ecological characteristics, it contributes to more accurate predictions of the potential habitats of this species. The predicted results can be used as basic data for the future conservation of Luciola unmunsana and the establishment of habitat restoration strategies. Full article

Background/Objectives: Access to specialized care for patients with cognitive impairment in remote areas is often limited. Despite the increasing adoption of telemedicine, standardized guidelines have not yet been specified. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive protocol for the specialized neurological, neuropsychological, and neuropsychiatric assessment of patients with cognitive disorders in remote areas through telemedicine. Methods: We analyzed data from (i) a comprehensive literature review of the existing recommendations, reliability studies, and telemedicine models for cognitive disorders, (ii) insights from a three-year experience of a specialized telemedicine outpatient clinic for cognitive movement disorders in Greece, and (iii) suggestions coming from dementia specialists experienced in telemedicine (neurologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists) who took part in three focus groups. A critical synthesis of the findings was performed in the end. Results: The final protocol included: technical and organizational requirements (e.g., a high-resolution screen and a camera with zoom, room dimensions adequate for gait assessment, a noise-canceling microphone); medical history; neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological assessment adapted to videoconferencing; ethical–legal aspects (e.g., data security, privacy, informed consent); clinician–patient interaction (e.g., empathy, eye contact); diagnostic work-up; linkage to other services (e.g., tele-psychoeducation, caregiver support); and instructions for treatment and follow-up. Conclusions: This protocol is expected to serve as an example of good clinical practice and a source for official telemedicine guidelines for cognitive disorders. Ultimate outcomes include the potential enhanced access to specialized care, minimized financial and logistical costs, and the provision of a standardized, effective model for the remote diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. This model could be applied not only in Greece, but also in other countries with similar healthcare systems and populations living in remote, difficult-to-access areas. Full article

Background: Pediatric Crohn’s Disease (CD) affects more than physical health, influencing emotional well-being, social integration, and developmental milestones, with an impact on disease management. This study aimed to explore adolescents’ lived experiences with CD and identify factors influencing their motivation for self-management. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional qualitative study was conducted using a semi-structured, self-administered online questionnaire. Participants (n = 10) were adolescents with CD who had been diagnosed for over three years and were recruited from a tertiary pediatric gastroenterology center. Data included demographics, clinical characteristics, IMPACT-III (HRQOL), and PROMIS short forms. Open-ended responses underwent thematic analysis using the framework developed by Braun and Clarke. Results: Participants (80% female, median age 16.2 years, median disease duration 4.6 years) were all in clinical remission (median PCDAI = 2) and with good quality of life (median IMPACT-III = 80.7). Six themes emerged: (1) disease knowledge, (2) emotional responses, (3) coping and adaptation, (4) social support, (5) daily life and school impact, and (6) transition to adult care. Most participants demonstrated strong disease literacy and reported effective coping strategies. Emotional responses to diagnosis ranged from relief (60%) to distress (40%); relapses commonly triggered anxiety and fear. Therapeutic changes and disease monitoring were perceived as beneficial (100%) but with concern. Diagnostic procedures were viewed as burdensome by 70% of respondents. School performance and extracurricular participation were negatively affected in 40% during flares. Concerns regarding the future were reported by 40% of participants, with 30% believing that CD might limit life aspirations. While 60% managed their disease independently, 30% relied on parental support. All acknowledged the need for transition to adult care, though readiness varied. Conclusions: This study illustrates the overall impact of disease on pediatric CD patients. It reports significant emotional challenges and difficulties, as well as an impact on daily life, despite good disease knowledge. The findings underscore the importance of psychosocial well-being, ongoing mental health assessment, non-invasive monitoring, and holistic care, emphasizing the patient perspective, in managing pediatric CD.
