Biopolymers and bio-based plastics, such as polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene succinate (PBS), are recognized as environmentally friendly materials and are widely used, especially in the packaging industry. The purpose of this study was to assess the degradation of PLA- and PBS-based formulations in the forms of granules and films under controlled composting conditions at a laboratory scale. Biodegradation tests of bio-based materials were conducted under controlled aerobic conditions, following the standard EVS-EN ISO 14855-1:2012. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed using a high-resolution Zeiss Ultra 55 scanning electron microscope to analyze the samples. After the six-month laboratory-scale composting experiment, it was observed that the PLA-based materials degraded by 47.46–98.34%, while the PBS-based materials exhibited a final degradation degree of 34.15–80.36%. Additionally, the PLA-based compounds displayed a variable total organic carbon (TOC) content ranging from 38% to 56%. In contrast, the PBS-based compounds exhibited a more consistent TOC content, with a narrow range from 53% to 54%. These findings demonstrate that bioplastics can contribute to reducing plastic waste through controlled composting, but their degradation efficiency depends on the material composition and environmental conditions. Future efforts should optimize bioplastic formulations and composting systems while developing supportive policies for wider adoption. Full article

The transition to green energy in the transport sector is becoming a priority in the context of global climate challenges and the European Green Deal. This paper investigates the development of alternative fuelling stations, particularly electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and hydrogen stations, across EU countries with a focus on Poland. It combines a policy and technology overview with a quantitative scientific analysis, offering a multidimensional perspective on green infrastructure deployment. A Pearson correlation analysis reveals significant links between charging station density and both GDP per capita and the share of renewable energy. The study introduces an original Infrastructure Accessibility Index (IAI) to compare infrastructure availability across EU member states and models Poland’s EV charging station demand up to 2030 under multiple growth scenarios. Furthermore, the article provides a comprehensive overview of biofuels, including first-, second-, and third-generation technologies, and highlights recent advances in hydrogen and renewable electricity integration. Emphasis is placed on life cycle considerations, energy source sustainability, and economic implications. The findings support policy development toward zero-emission mobility and the decarbonisation of transport systems, offering recommendations for infrastructure expansion and energy diversification strategies. Accurately predicting how quickly people will adopt electric vehicles (EVs) is vital for planning charging stations, managing supply chains, and shaping climate policy. We present a forecasting model that uses three separate Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) branches—one for past EV sales, one for infrastructure and policy signals, and one for economic trends. An attention mechanism first highlights the most important weeks in each branch, then decides which branch matters most at any point in time. Trained end-to-end on publicly available data, the model beats traditional statistical methods and newer deep learning baselines while remaining small enough to run efficiently. An ablation study shows that every branch and both attention steps improve accuracy, and that adding policy and economic data helps more than relying on EV history alone. Because the network is modular and its attention weights are easy to interpret, it can be extended to produce confidence intervals, include physical constraints, or forecast adoption of other clean-energy technologies. Indonesia’s worsening air pollution and traffic emissions have thrust electric vehicles (EVs) into the spotlight, but what really drives Indonesians to make the switch? This study integrates Protection Motivation Theory with green branding and policy frameworks to explain electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Indonesia. Using a nationwide survey (n = 986) and partial-least-squares structural-equation modeling, we test how environmental awareness, consumer expectancy, threat appraisal, and coping appraisal shape adoption both directly and through green brand image (GBI), while perceived policy incentives moderate the GBI–adoption link. The model accounts for 54% of the variance in adoption intention. These findings highlight that combining public awareness campaigns, compelling green brand messaging, and carefully calibrated policy incentives is essential for accelerating Indonesia’s transition to cleaner transport. This study evaluates the feasibility and visibility of electric vehicles (EVs) in Egypt, addressing critical research gaps and proposing actionable strategies to drive adoption. Employing a systematic review of academic, governmental, and industry sources, the paper identifies underexplored areas such as rural–urban adoption disparities, lifecycle assessments of EV batteries, and sociocultural barriers, including gender dynamics and entrenched consumer preferences. Its primary contribution is an interdisciplinary framework that integrates technical aspects, such as grid resilience and climate-related battery degradation, with socioeconomic dimensions, providing a holistic overview of EV feasibility in Egypt tailored to Egypt’s context. Key findings reveal infrastructure limitations, inconsistent policy frameworks, and behavioral skepticism as major hurdles, and highlight the untapped potential of renewable energy integration, particularly through synergies between solar PV generation (e.g., Benban Solar Park) and EV charging infrastructure. Recommendations prioritize policy reforms (e.g., tax incentives, streamlined tariffs), solar-powered charging infrastructure expansion, public awareness campaigns, and local EV manufacturing to stimulate economic growth. This study introduces a novel tripartite evolutionary game model to analyze the strategic interactions among electric vehicle (EV) aggregators, local governments, and EV users in vehicle–grid interaction (VGI) markets. The core novelty lies in capturing bounded rationality and dynamic decision-making across the three stakeholders, revealing how policy incentives and market mechanisms drive the transition from disordered charging to bidirectional VGI. Key findings include the following: (1) The system exhibits five stable equilibrium points, corresponding to three distinct developmental phases of the VGI market: disordered charging (V0G), unidirectional VGI (V1G), and bidirectional VGI (V2G). (2) Peak–valley price differences are the primary driver for transitioning from V0G to V1G. (3) EV aggregators’ willingness to adopt V2G is influenced by upgrade costs, while local governments’ subsidy strategies depend on peak-shaving benefits and regulatory costs. (4) Increasing the subsidy differential between V1G and V2G accelerates market evolution toward V2G. The framework offers actionable policy insights for sustainable VGI development, while advancing evolutionary game theory applications in energy systems. Full article

The low-carbon transition of the global energy system is an urgent necessity to address climate change and meet growing energy demand. As a major source of energy consumption and emissions, buildings play a key role in this transition. This study systematically analyzes the flexible resources of building energy systems and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction technologies, and mainly focuses on the regulation characteristics and coordination mechanisms of distributed energy supply (renewable energy and multi-energy cogeneration), energy storage (electric/thermal/cooling), and flexible loads (air conditioning and electric vehicles) within regional energy systems. The study reveals that distributed renewable energy and multi-energy cogeneration technologies form an integrated architecture through a complementary “output fluctuation mitigation–cascade energy supply” mechanism, enabling the coordinated optimization of building energy efficiency and grid regulation. Electricity and thermal energy storage serve as dual pillars of flexibility along the “fast response–economic storage” dimension. Air conditioning loads and electric vehicles (EVs) complement each other via thermodynamic regulation and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies, constructing a dual-dimensional regulation mode in terms of both power and time. Ultimately, a dynamic balance system integrating sources, loads, and storage is established, driven by the spatiotemporal complementarity of multi-energy flows. This paper proposes an innovative framework that optimizes energy consumption and enhances grid stability by coordinating distributed renewable energy, energy storage, and flexible loads across multiple time scales. This approach offers a new perspective for achieving sustainable and flexible building energy systems. In addition, this paper explores the application of demand response policies in building energy systems, analyzing the role of policy incentives and market mechanisms in promoting building energy flexibility. This study presents a comprehensive forecasting approach to evaluate the future of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the United Kingdom through 2035. Using three complementary models—SARIMAX, Prophet with regressors, and XGBoost—the analysis balances statistical robustness, policy sensitivity, and interpretability. Historical data from 2015 to 2024 was used to train the models, incorporating key drivers such as battery prices, GDP growth, public charging infrastructure, and government policy targets. XGBoost demonstrated the highest historical accuracy, making it a strong explanatory tool, particularly for assessing variable importance. However, due to its limitations in extrapolation, it was not used for long-term forecasting. Instead, Prophet and SARIMAX were employed to project EV sales under baseline, optimistic, and pessimistic policy scenarios. The results suggest that the UK could achieve between 2,964,000 and 3,188,000 EV sales by 2035 under baseline assumptions. Scenario analysis revealed high sensitivity to infrastructure growth and policy enforcement, with potential shortfalls of up to 500,000 vehicles in pessimistic scenarios. These findings highlight the importance of sustained government commitment and investment in EV infrastructure and supply chains. By combining machine learning diagnostics with transparent forecasting models, the study offers actionable insights for policymakers, investors, and stakeholders navigating the UK’s zero-emission transition. Road transportation is a major contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Thailand. This study assesses the potential for GHG mitigation in the road transport sector from 2018 to 2030. Emission factors for various vehicle types and technologies were derived using the International Vehicle Emissions (IVE) model. Emissions were then estimated based on country-specific vehicle data. In the baseline year 2018, total emissions were estimated at 23,914.02 GgCO2eq, primarily from pickups (24.38%), trucks (20.96%), passenger cars (19.48%), and buses (16.95%). Multiple mitigation scenarios were evaluated, including the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), improvements in fuel efficiency, and a shift to renewable energy. Results indicate that transitioning all newly registered passenger cars (PCs) to EVs while phasing out older models could lead to a 16.42% reduction in total GHG emissions by 2030. The most effective integrated scenario, combining the expansion of electric vehicles with improvements in internal combustion engine efficiency, could achieve a 41.96% reduction, equivalent to 18,378.04 GgCO2eq. These findings highlight the importance of clean technology deployment and fuel transition policies in meeting Thailand’s climate goals, while providing a valuable database to support strategic planning and implementation. The electric vehicle (EV) business model integrates advanced battery technology, dynamic power train architectures, and intelligent energy management systems with ecosystem strategies and digital services. It incorporates environmental sustainability through lifecycle analysis and renewable energy integration. China, with 9.49 million EV sales in 2023 (33% market share), faces infrastructure gaps constraining further growth. China is strategically mitigating CO2 emissions while fostering economic expansion, notwithstanding constraints such as suboptimal battery technology advancements, elevated production expenditure, and enduring ecological impacts. This Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental (PESTLE) assessment, operationalized through a survey of 800 stakeholders and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences IBM SPSS SPSS (Version 28) quantitative analysis (factor loading = 0.73 for Technology; eigenvalue = 4.12), identifies infrastructure gaps as the dominant barrier (72% of stakeholders). Political factors (β = 0.82) emerged as the strongest adoption predictor, outweighing economic subsidies in significance. The adoption of EVs in China presents a significant prospect for reducing CO2 emissions and advancing technology. However, economic barriers, market dynamics, inadequate infrastructure, regulatory uncertainty, and social acceptance issues are addressed in the assessment. The study recommends prioritizing infrastructure investment (e.g., 500 K fast-charging stations by 2027) and policy stability to overcome adoption barriers. This study provides three key advances: (1) quantification of PESTLE factor weights via factor analysis, revealing technological (infrastructure) and political factors as dominant; (2) identification of infrastructure gaps, not subsidies, as the primary adoption barrier; and (3) demonstration of infrastructure’s persistence post-subsidy cuts. These insights redefine EV adoption priorities in China. Full article

California’s SB 1014 (Clean Miles Standard) mandates ridehailing fleet electrification to reduce emissions from vehicle miles traveled, posing financial and infrastructure challenges for drivers. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, including expert interviews (n = 10), group discussions (n = 8), and a survey of full- and part-time drivers (n = 436), to examine electric vehicle (EV) adoption attitudes and policy preferences. Access to home charging and prior EV experience emerged as the most statistically significant predictors of EV acquisition. Socio-demographic variables, particularly income and age, could also influence the EV choice and sensitivity to policy design. Full-time drivers, though confident in the EV range, were concerned about income loss from the charging downtime and access to urban fast chargers. They showed a greater interest in EVs than part-time drivers and favored an income-based instant rebate at the point of sale. In contrast, part-time drivers showed greater hesitancy and were more responsive to vehicle purchase discounts (price reductions or instant rebates at the point of sale available to all customers) and charging credits (monetary incentive or prepaid allowance to offset the cost of EV charging equipment). Policymakers might target low-income full-time drivers with greater price reductions and offer charging credits (USD 500 to USD 1500) to part-time drivers needing operational and infrastructure support. With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) through purchase subsidy (PS) policies, the personal carbon tax (PCT) policy has been adopted by some countries due to its characteristics of restraining the diffusion of fuel vehicles (FVs) from the consumer side. This paper constructs a three-stage game model consisting of government, manufacturers, and consumers to investigate the impact of basic utility valuation heterogeneity differences on the optimal decisions and to compare the implementation effects of two policies. The results are as follows. First, conventional wisdom suggests that EV consumer surplus under PS policy will exceed that under PCT policy. Surprisingly, our results show that when the basic utility valuation difference is small, the EV consumer surplus under PCT policy exceeds that under PS policy. Second, for manufacturers, it is interesting to note that the sustained impact of PCT policy on promoting the diffusion of the EV market and the profit of the EV manufacturer is related to the basic utility valuation heterogeneity difference. However, compared with PS policy, the implementation of PCT policy has a better restraining effect on the diffusion of the FV market, effectively reducing the demand for FV and the profit of FV manufacturers. Finally, contrary to the common belief that increasing subsidies or raising carbon taxes can increase overall social welfare, this paper shows that subsidies and carbon taxes have a dual impact on overall social welfare, and only when their positive effects outweigh the negative ones can such policies become effective ways of promoting industrial transformation. This study critically reflects on Myanmar’s readiness and potential to transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) amidst escalating climate pressures, energy insecurity, and regional technological shifts. It aims to advocate a systemic and inclusive EV strategy rooted in environmental, economic, and governance imperatives. Drawing on an extensive review of scholarly literature, policy documents, and regional best practices, this study synthesizes evidence to frame a normative argument for accelerating the adoption of EVs in Myanmar. It combines the environmental, infrastructural, and political–economic perspectives to support its position. Myanmar’s EV transition is not merely a technological leap, but a structural transformation intertwined with energy equity, public health, and geopolitical positioning. While significant barriers, such as grid unreliability, policy inconsistency, and socioeconomic disparities, persist, coordinated national efforts and regional cooperation can unlock transformative opportunities. Policy clarity, grid modernization, public engagement, and international partnerships are essential enablers. This study offers a timely and region-specific perspective on the EV debate, highlighting Myanmar’s unique vulnerabilities and latent advantages. It presents a value-based call for inclusive, future-oriented policymaking that aligns Myanmar’s mobility system with its sustainability and development goals. Full article

The development of a robust and efficient electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is essential for accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation. This systematic review analyzes recent research on EV charging network planning, with a particular focus on optimization techniques, machine learning applications, and sustainability integration. Using bibliometric methods and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), we identify key thematic clusters, including smart grid integration, strategic station placement, renewable energy integration, and public policy impacts. This study reveals a growing trend toward hybrid models that combine artificial intelligence and optimization methods to address challenges such as grid constraints, range anxiety, and economic feasibility. We provide a taxonomy of computational approaches—ranging from classical optimization to deep reinforcement learning—and synthesize practical insights for researchers, policymakers, and urban planners. The findings highlight the critical role of coordinated strategies and data-driven tools in designing scalable and resilient EV charging infrastructures, and point to future research directions involving intelligent, adaptive, and sustainable charging solutions.
