Background/Objectives: Collaboration in mental health care is essential for implementing a model oriented towards the psychosocial rehabilitation of people based on multifaceted interventions involving different actors and sectors of society to respond to demands. Despite the benefits presented by the scientific evidence, there are still many barriers to collaborative care, and professionals continue to struggle in reorienting their conduct. The current situation demands organization and the framing of well-founded action plans to overcome challenges, which in turn requires a detailed understanding of collaborative practices in mental health care and their conceptual boundaries. A concept analysis was undertaken to propose a working definition of collaborative practices in mental health care (CPMHC). Methods: This paper used the Walker and Avant concept analysis method. This includes identifying the defining concept attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. A literature search was carried out from November 2024 to February 2025 in three databases (Medline, CINAHL, and LILACS), considering studies published between 2010 and 2024. Results: The final sample of literature investigated consisted of 30 studies. The key attributes were effective communication, building bonds, co-responsibility for care, hierarchical flexibility, articulation between services, providers and community, monitoring and evaluating of care processes, and attention to the plurality of sociocultural contexts. Conclusions: This comprehensive analysis contributes to guiding future research and policy development of collaborative practices in mental health, considering the individual, relational, institutional, and social levels. Further research is possible to deepen the understanding of the production of collaborative practices in mental health in the face of the complexity of social relations and structural inequities. Background: A detailed understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology is crucial in cardiovascular medicine. However, traditional learning methods often fall short in addressing this complexity. Augmented reality (AR) offers a promising tool to enhance comprehension. To assess its potential integration into the Heidelberger Curriculum Medicinale (HeiCuMed), we conducted a needs assessment among medical students and lecturers at Heidelberg University Medical School. Methods: Our survey aimed to evaluate the perceived benefits of AR-based learning compared to conventional methods and to gather expectations regarding an AR course in cardiovascular medicine. Using LimeSurvey, we developed a questionnaire to assess participants’ prior AR experience, preferred learning methods, and interest in a proposed AR-based, 2 × 90-min in-person course. Results: A total of 101 students and 27 lecturers participated. Support for AR in small-group teaching was strong: 96.3% of students and 90.9% of lecturers saw value in a dedicated AR course. Both groups favored its application in anatomy, cardiac surgery, and internal medicine. Students prioritized congenital heart defects, coronary anomalies, and arrhythmias, while lecturers also emphasized invasive valve interventions. Conclusions: There is significant interest in AR-based teaching in cardiovascular education, suggesting its potential to complement and improve traditional methods in medical curricula. Further studies are needed to assess the potential benefits regarding learning outcomes. Full article

Work Engagement and Compassion Fatigue Among Nursing Professionals During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-Sectional and Single-Center Study Using the ProQOL-BR and UWES-9 Scales

Objectives: This study investigated levels of work engagement and the occurrence of compassion fatigue among nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational study was conducted at a Brazilian university hospital between February and April 2022. The Brazilian versions of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) and the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL-BR) were administered. Results: High levels of compassion satisfaction (44.9 points), low levels of burnout (21.0 points), and low levels of secondary traumatic stress (22.8 points) were observed. No professional demonstrated a profile consistent with compassion fatigue. Engagement levels were high for dedication (5.3) and moderate for vigor (4.9), absorption (4.5), and overall engagement (4.9). Burnout showed moderate negative correlations with vigor (r = −0.611, p = 0.005) and dedication (r = −0.599, p = 0.019). Compassion satisfaction showed moderate positive correlations with vigor (r = 0.522, p < 0.001) and dedication (r = 0.572, p < 0.001). The overall engagement score was moderately and positively correlated with compassion satisfaction (r = 0.532, p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study identified high levels of work engagement, especially regarding dedication, and low levels of compassion fatigue among nursing professionals. The data suggest that even amid the emotional and physical demands imposed by the pandemic, participants preserved their emotional well-being and maintained a positive relationship with their work. Background: Oral leukoplakia (OL) and proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) remain challenging entities due to the absence of reliable prognostic biomarkers. All-trans retinoic acid (atRA), a pivotal modulator of epithelial differentiation and mucosal integrity, has been proposed as a candidate biomarker. This study sought to quantify plasma RA levels in patients with OL and PVL compared to healthy controls, assessing their potential clinical utility. Methods: A cohort of 40 participants was recruited, comprising 10 patients with OL, 10 with PVL, and 20 healthy controls. This nested case–control study was derived from previously characterized institutional databases of oral potentially malignant disorders. Plasma samples were analyzed for atRA concentration using high-precision mass spectrometry. Statistical comparisons were conducted to evaluate differences between groups and associations with clinical outcomes. Results: Patients with homogeneous OL exhibited significantly reduced plasma atRA concentrations (mean 2.17 ± 0.39 pg/mL) relative to both PVL patients (2.64 ± 0.56 pg/mL) and healthy controls (2.66 ± 0.92 pg/mL), with p-values of 0.009 and 0.039, respectively. No statistically significant difference was found between PVL patients and controls. Furthermore, atRA levels demonstrated no correlation with clinicopathological variables or malignant progression within the PVL cohort. Conclusions: These preliminary findings indicate that diminished plasma atRA levels may serve as a prognostic marker for homogeneous oral leukoplakia, whilst its role in PVL appears limited. However, effect estimates were imprecise, and additional studies are warranted. Full article

Fistulina hepatica (Schaeff.) With. and Clitocybe nuda (Bull.) H.E. Bigelow & A.H. Sm. are wild edible mushrooms with nutritional and functional potential that remain insufficiently characterized. This study provides the first comparative assessment of their nutritional profiles, phenolic composition, and antioxidant activity, using specimens collected from Montesinho Natural Park (Portugal). Proximate composition, organic and phenolic acids, free sugars, and fatty acids were analyzed by chromatographic methods, and antioxidant capacity was assessed through OxHLIA and TBARS assays. F. hepatica showed higher carbohydrates (9.3 ± 0.2 g/100 g fw) and estimated energy values (43 ± 1 kcal/100 g fw), increased phenolic acids content (2.7 ± 0.1 mg/g extract), and the exclusive presence of p-coumaric and cinnamic acids, along with OxHLIA activity (IC50 = 126 ± 5 µg/mL at Δt = 60 min). C. nuda displayed higher protein (2.5 ± 0.1 g/100 g dw) and quinic acid contents (4.13 ± 0.02 mg/g extract), a PUFA-rich profile, and greater TBARS inhibition (EC50 = 303 ± 17 µg/mL). These findings highlight distinct and complementary bioactive traits, supporting their valorization as natural functional ingredients. Their compositional features offer promising applications in sustainable food systems and nutraceutical development, encouraging further investigations into safety, bioaccessibility, and formulation strategies. Notably, F. hepatica is best consumed at a young developmental stage, as its sensory properties tend to decline with maturity. Full article

Predicting the Body Weight of Tilapia Fingerlings from Images Using Computer Vision

The aim of this study was to develop a mathematical model to predict the body weight of tilapia fingerlings using variables obtained through computer vision. A total of 2092 tilapia fingerlings and juveniles, weighing between 10 and 100 g, were fasted for 12 h, anesthetized, weighed, and photographed using an iPhone 12 Pro Max at 33 cm height in a closed container with different bottom colors. Images were segmented using Roboflow’s instance segmentation model, achieving 99.5% mean average precision, 99.9% precision, and 100% recall. From the segmented images, area, perimeter, major axis (MA), minor axis (SA), X and Y centroids, compactness, eccentricity, and the MA/SA ratio were extracted. Seventy percent of the data was used to build the model, and 30% for validation. Stepwise multiple regression (backward selection) was performed, using body weight as the dependent variable. The prediction model was: −17.7677 + 0.0007539(area) – 0.0848303 (MA) – 0.108338(SA) + 0.0034496(CX). The validation model showed similar coefficients and R2 = 0.99. The second validation, using observed versus predicted values, also yielded an R2 of 0.99 and a mean absolute error of 1.57 g. Correlation and principal component analyses revealed strong positive associations among body weight, area, axes, and predicted values. Computer vision proved effective for predicting tilapia fingerlings’ weight. Full article

Production of a Biosurfactant for Application in the Cosmetics Industry

The cosmetics industry has been seeking to develop products with renewable natural ingredients to reduce the use of or even replace synthetic substances. Biosurfactants can help meet this demand. These natural compounds are renewable, biodegradable, and non-toxic or have low toxicity, offering minimal risk to humans and the environment, which has attracted the interest of an emerging consumer market and, consequently, the cosmetics industry. The aim of the present study was to produce a biosurfactant from the yeast Starmerella bombicola ATCC 22214 cultivated in a mineral medium containing 10% soybean oil and 5% glucose. The biosurfactant reduced the surface tension of water from 72.0 ± 0.1 mN/m to 33.0 ± 0.3 mN/m after eight days of fermentation. The yield was 53.35 ± 0.39 g/L and the critical micelle concentration was 1000 mg/L. The biosurfactant proved to be a good emulsifier of oils used in cosmetic formulations, with emulsification indices ranging from 45.90 ± 1.69% to 68.50 ± 1.10%. The hydrophilic–lipophilic balance index demonstrated the wetting capacity of the biosurfactant and its tendency to form oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, with 50.0 ± 0.20% foaming capacity. The biosurfactant did not exhibit cytotoxicity in the MTT assay or irritant potential. Additionally, an antioxidant activity of 58.25 ± 0.32% was observed at a concentration of 40 mg/mL. The compound also exhibited antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic microorganisms. The characterisation of the biosurfactant using magnetic nuclear resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the biomolecule is a glycolipid with an anionic nature. The results demonstrate that biosurfactant produced in this work has potential as an active biotechnological ingredient for innovative, eco-friendly cosmetic formulations. Full article

Agricultural production in southern Angola faces challenges due to unsustainable practices, including inefficient use of water, fertilizers, and machinery, resulting in low yields and environmental degradation. Therefore, clear and measurable indicators are needed to guide farmers toward more sustainable practices. The scientific literature insufficiently addresses this issue, leaving a significant gap in the evaluation of key performance indicators (KPIs) that can guide good agricultural practices (GAPs) adapted to the context of southern Angola, with the goal of promoting a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector. So, the objective of this study is to identify and assess KPIs capable of supporting the selection of GAPs suitable for maize, potato, and tomato cultivation in the context of southern Angolan agriculture. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted, screening 2720 articles and selecting 14 studies that met defined inclusion criteria. Five KPIs were identified as the most relevant: gross margin, net profit, water use efficiency, nitrogen use efficiency, and machine energy. These indicators were analyzed and standardized to evaluate their contribution to sustainability across different GAPs. Results show that organic fertilizers are the most sustainable option for maize, drip irrigation for potatoes, and crop rotation for tomatoes in southern Angola because of their efficiency in low-resource environments. A clear, simple, and effective representation of the KPIs was developed to be useful in communicating to farmers and policy makers on the selection of the best GAPs in the cultivation of different crops. The study proposes a validated KPI-based methodology for assessing sustainable agricultural practices in developing regions such as southern Angola, aiming to lead to greater self-sufficiency and economic stability in this sector. Characterization of DNA Viruses in Hindgut Contents of Protaetia brevitarsis Larvae

The scarab species Protaetia brevitarsis, an edible insect, has been used in traditional medicine, as animal feed, and for converting agricultural organic wastes into biofertilizer. The intestinal tract, which contains a diverse array of microbiota, including viruses, plays a critical role in animal health and homeostasis. We previously conducted a comparative analysis of the gut microbiota of third-instar larvae of P. brevitarsis obtained from five different farms and found significant differences in the composition of the gut bacterial microbiota between farms. To better understand the gut microbiota, the composition of DNA viruses in the hindgut contents of P. brevitarsis larvae obtained from five farms was investigated using metagenomic sequencing in this study. The β-diversity was significantly different between metagenomic data obtained from the five farms (PERMANOVA, pseudo-F = 46.95, p = 0.002). Family-based taxonomic analysis indicated that the relative abundance of viruses in the gut overall metagenome varied significantly between farms, with viral reads comprising approximately 41.2%, 15.0%, 4.3%, 4.0%, and 1.6% of metagenomic sequences from the farms Tohamsan gumbengi farm (TO), Secomnalagum gumbengi (IS), Gumbengi brothers (BR), Kyungpook farm (KB), and Jhbio (JH), respectively. More than 98% of the DNA viruses in the hindgut were bacteriophages, mainly belonging to the Siphoviridae family. At the species level, Phage Min1, infecting the genus Microbacterium, was detected in all farms, and it was the most abundant bacteriophage in intestinal microbiota, with a prevalence of 0.9% to 29.09%. The detected eukaryotic DNA viruses accounted for 0.01% to 0.06% of the intestinal microbiota and showed little or no relationship with insect viruses. Therefore, they most likely originated from contaminated feed or soil. These results suggest that the condition of substrates used as feed is more important than genetic factors in shaping the intestinal viral microbiota of P. brevitarsis larvae. These results can be used as reference data for understanding the hindgut microbiota of P. brevitarsis larvae and, more generally, the gut virome of insects. Full article

Museums may acquire archaeological artefacts discovered by non-specialists or amateur archaeologists, holding the potential to promote the safeguarding of cultural heritage by integrating the local community in their activities. However, this also creates an opportunity for the fraudulent sale of modern forgeries presented as archaeological artefacts, resulting in the need for a critical assessment of the artefact’s authenticity prior to acquisition by the museum. In 2019, the regional museum in Cáceres (Spain) was offered the opportunity to acquire a Phoenician-Punic head pendant, allegedly discovered in the vicinity of the city. The artefact’s authenticity was assessed by traditional approaches, including typological analysis and analysis of manufacture technique, which raised doubts about its purported age. VP-SEM-EDS analysis of the chemical composition of the different glass portions comprising the pendant was used for non-invasive determination of glassmaking recipes, enabling the identification of glass components incompatible with known Iron Age glassmaking recipes from the Mediterranean. Further comparison with historical and modern glassmaking recipes allowed for the identification of the artefact as a recent forgery made from glasses employing modern colouring and opacifying techniques. Plasma-activated water (PAW), enriched with reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), presents oxidative and antimicrobial characteristics with potential in cosmetic applications. This study examined the effects of two PAW formulations—nitrate-rich (PAW-N) and peroxide-rich (PAW-P)—on human hair types classified as straight (Type 1), wavy (Type 2), and coily/kinky (Type 4). The impact of PAW on hair structure and chemistry was evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UV–Vis spectrophotometry, and physicochemical analyses of the liquids (pH, ORP, conductivity, and TDS). PAW-N, with high nitrate content (~500 mg/L), low pH (2.15), and elevated conductivity (6244 µS/cm), induced significant damage to porous hair types, including disulfide bond cleavage, protein oxidation, and lipid degradation, as indicated by FTIR and EDS data. SEM confirmed severe cuticle disruption. In contrast, PAW-P, containing >25 mg/L of hydrogen peroxide and exhibiting milder acidity and lower ionic strength, caused more localized and controlled oxidation with minimal morphological damage. Straight hair showed greater resistance to both treatments, while coily and wavy hair were more susceptible, particularly to PAW-N. These findings suggest that the formulation and ionic profile of PAW should be matched to hair porosity for safe oxidative treatments, supporting the use of PAW-P as a gentler alternative in hair care technologies. This study investigates the relationship between the compressive strength of two-course masonry specimens and three-course masonry specimens extracted from previously constructed walls, to correlate the execution control specimens with the retest specimens. Compressive strength tests were performed on clay masonry units, laboratory-built two-course masonry specimens, and three-course masonry specimens extracted from constructed walls, following the prescriptions of NBR 15270 and NBR 16868-3. The results demonstrate that three-course masonry specimens exhibit lower compressive strength (characteristic and average, 44.83% and 40.29%, respectively) compared to two-course masonry specimens. Additionally, it was found that the dispersion of results is greater in three-course masonry specimens. Given that three-course specimens are typically used when it becomes necessary to verify the structural compliance of executed masonry—usually following unsatisfactory results from execution control using two-course specimens—more data are needed to compare such results. Factors such as increased height-to-thickness ratio, the presence of head joints, and the influence of execution conditions at the construction site seem to influence the difference between two and three-course specimens, as well as the dispersion of the results. Therefore, it is essential that technical standards provide supporting criteria to enable a reliable comparison between two-course specimens used for execution control and three-course specimens used as retest elements. We investigate pseudo-complex General Relativity (pcGR)—a coordinate-extended formulation of General Relativity (GR)—within the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, a regularized theory featuring anisotropic scaling. The pcGR framework bridges GR with modified gravitational theories through the introduction of a minimal length scale. Focusing on Schwarzschild black holes, we derive the Wheeler-deWitt equation, obtaining a quantized description of pcGR. Using perturbative methods and semi-classical approximations, we analyze the solutions of the equations and their physical implications. A key finding is the avoidance of the central singularity due to nonlinear interaction terms in the Hořava-Lifshitz action. Notably, extrinsic curvature (kinetic energy) contributions prove essential for singularity resolution, even in standard GR. Furthermore, the theory offers new perspectives on dark energy, proposing an alternative mechanism for its accumulation. Full article

Neglected diseases significantly impact the world, and there is a lack of effective treatments, requiring therapeutic alternatives. Thus, the study of the phytochemical and schistosomicidal activity evaluation of Copaifera oblongifolia leaves’ crude extract was conducted. The quercitrin (1) and afzelin (2) were isolated from the crude extract. In the in vitro schistosomicidal activity test, the isolated compounds demonstrated promising results, with 75% mortality at a concentration of 12.5 µM after 72 h. Molecular docking calculations indicated that compounds 1 and 2 could potentially interact with the amino acids of the FAD binding site in the TGR enzyme, a crucial enzyme for the survival of Schistosoma mansoni. These interactions could have binding energies comparable to praziquantel, a preferred drug for treating schistosomiasis. Therefore, in silico and in vitro investigations are crucial for developing new studies that can reveal the antiparasitic potential of compounds of plant origin. Full article

Health Problems, Unhealthy Behaviors and Occupational Carcinogens Exposures Among Night Shift Brazilian Workers: Results from National Health Survey, 2019

Introduction: Night shift work (NSW) has been increasingly addressed in the scientific literature, as it is considered a probable carcinogen. In this study, we investigated the association of NSW with health problems, unhealthy behaviors, and occupational carcinogens. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a sample of 47,953 workers from the 2019 National Health Survey. NSW prevalence was estimated according to sociodemographic characteristics. To investigate the associations of NSW with all study variables, gender stratified logistic regression models were used. The odds-ratio and 95% confidence intervals were estimated. Results: Among men, there was a significant association of NSW with sleep disorders (OR = 1.39; 95% CI: 1.17–1.65), tiredness (OR = 1.68; 95% CI: 1.41–2.00), obesity (OR = 1.41; 95% CI: 1.20–1.66), unhealthy food consumption (OR = 1.28; 95% CI: 1.12–1.46), handling of radioactive material (OR = 2.45; 95% CI: 1.61–3.72), and biological material (OR = 3.18; 95% CI: 3.15–4.80). Among females, NSW was associated with the same variables except obesity, but depressive feelings (OR = 1.35 95% CI: 1.09–1.67), frequent alcohol intake (OR = 1.48; 95% CI: 1.23–1.78), handling of chemical substances (OR = 1.54; OR = 1.54; 95% CI: 1.20–1.97), and passive smoking at work (OR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.12–1.86) were highly significant. Conclusion: Night shift workers are more vulnerable to occupational carcinogen exposure, experience greater impacts on their well-being, and are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors. These findings should be considered in managing and organizing night work in the workplace. Actions to promote healthy work environments should be encouraged to protect workers’ health. Full article
