This study focuses on the optimization of valve assemblies in downhole rod pumping units (DRPUs), which remain the predominant artificial lift technology in oil production worldwide. The research addresses the critical issue of premature failures in DRPUs caused by leakage in valve pairs, i.e., a problem that accounts for approximately 15% of all failures, as identified in a statistical analysis of the 2022 operational data from the Uzen oilfield in Kazakhstan. The leakage is primarily attributed to the accumulation of mechanical impurities and paraffin deposits between the valve ball and seat, leading to concentrated surface wear and compromised sealing. To mitigate this issue, a novel valve assembly design was developed featuring a flow turbulizer positioned beneath the valve seat. The turbulizer generates controlled vortex motion in the fluid flow, which increases the rotational frequency of the valve ball during operation. This motion promotes more uniform wear across the contact surfaces and reduces the risk of localized degradation. The turbulizers were manufactured using additive FDM technology, and several design variants were tested in a full-scale laboratory setup simulating downhole conditions. Experimental results revealed that the most effective configuration was a spiral plate turbulizer with a 7.5 mm width, installed without axis deviation from the vertical, which achieved the highest ball rotation frequency and enhanced lapping effect between the ball and the seat. Subsequent field trials using valves with duralumin-based turbulizers demonstrated increased operational lifespans compared to standard valves, confirming the viability of the proposed solution. However, cases of abrasive wear were observed under conditions of high mechanical impurity concentration, indicating the need for more durable materials. To address this, the study recommends transitioning to 316 L stainless steel for turbulizer fabrication due to its superior tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Implementing this design improvement can significantly reduce maintenance intervals, improve pump reliability, and lower operating costs in mature oilfields with high water cut and solid content. The findings of this research contribute to the broader efforts in petroleum engineering to enhance the longevity and performance of artificial lift systems through targeted mechanical design improvements and material innovation. This paper presents the results of the mathematical modeling and experimental studies of charging a traction lithium-ion battery of a passenger electric car using an integrated charger based on a traction voltage inverter. An original three-stage charging algorithm (3PT/PN) has been developed and implemented, which provides a sequential decrease in the charging current when the specified voltage and temperature levels of the battery module are reached. As part of this study, a comprehensive mathematical model has been created that takes into account the features of the power circuit, control algorithms, thermal effects and characteristics of the storage battery. The model has been successfully verified based on the experimental data obtained when charging the battery module in real conditions. The maximum error of voltage modeling has been 0.71%; that of current has not exceeded 1%. The experiments show the achievement of a realized capacity of 8.9 Ah and an integral efficiency of 85.5%, while the temperature regime remains within safe limits. The proposed approach provides a high charge rate, stability of the thermal state of the battery and a long service life. The results can be used to optimize the charging infrastructure of electric vehicles and to develop intelligent battery module management systems. Full article

The rapid development of electric transport necessitates efficient energy storage and redistribution in traction systems. A key challenge is the utilization of regenerative braking energy, which is often dissipated in resistors due to network saturation and limited consumption capacity. The paper addresses the problem of inefficient energy utilization in electric rail vehicles due to the absence of effective energy recovery mechanisms. A specific challenge arises when managing energy recuperated during regenerative braking, which is typically lost if not immediately reused. This study proposes the integration of on-board energy storage systems (ESS) based on supercapacitor technology to temporarily store excess braking energy. A mathematical model of a traction drive with a DC motor and supercapacitor-based ESS is developed, accounting for variable load profiles and typical urban driving cycles. Simulation results demonstrate potential energy savings of up to 30%, validating the feasibility of the proposed solution. The model also enables system-level analysis for optimal ESS sizing and placement in electric rail vehicles. Full article

The article presents a new method of passive dynamic weighing of vehicles based on the registration of seismic signals that occur when wheels pass through strips specially applied to the road surface. Signal processing is carried out using spectral methods, including fast Fourier transform, consistent filtering, and regularization methods for solving inverse problems. Special attention is paid to the use of linear-frequency-modulated signals, which make it possible to distinguish the responses of individual axes even when superimposed. Field tests were carried out on a real section of the road, during which signals from vehicles of various classes were recorded using eight geophones. The average error in determining the speed of 1.2 km/h and the weight of 8.7% was experimentally achieved, while the correct determination of the number of axles was 96.5%. The results confirm the high accuracy and sustainability of the proposed approach with minimal implementation costs. It is shown that this system can be scaled up for use in intelligent transport systems and applied in real traffic conditions without the need to intervene in the design of the roadway. Full article

This article presents a mathematically grounded approach to increasing the operational reliability of current collectors in electric transport systems by ensuring a constant contact force between the collector shoe and the power rail. The core objective is achieved through the development and analysis of a mechanical system incorporating spring and cam elements, which is specifically designed to provide a nearly invariant contact pressure under varying operating conditions. A set of equilibrium equations was derived to determine the stiffness ratios of the springs and the geometric conditions under which the contact force remains constant despite wear or displacement. Additionally, the paper introduces a method for synthesizing the cam profile that compensates for nonlinear spring deformation, ensuring force constancy over a wide range of movement. The analytical results were validated through parametric simulations, which assessed the influence of wear depth, rail inclination, and external vibrations on the system’s force output. These simulations, executed within a numerical framework using scientific computing tools, demonstrated that the deviation of the contact force does not exceed a few percent under typical disturbances. Experimental verification further confirmed the theoretical predictions. The study exemplifies the effective use of mathematical modeling, nonlinear mechanics, and numerical methods in the design of energy transmission components for transport applications, contributing to the development of robust and maintainable systems. The reliable operation of current collectors is the most important factor in the efficiency and service life of electric vehicles. This article presents a study devoted to modeling the impact of operating modes on the reliability and durability of the accumulator battery of an electric bus. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal modes of operation of the battery, which provide maximum service life while maintaining the operational efficiency of the vehicle. The developed simulation model considers the relationship between the thermal and electrical characteristics of the battery, as well as the process of its aging under the influence of various factors, including temperature, depth of discharge and charging/discharging modes. The work provides an assessment of the impact of various operating scenarios, including the charging modes typical of urban routes, on the loss of battery capacity. Using this model, it was established and experimentally confirmed that the greatest decrease in battery life occurs at a high level of battery charge. The best operating conditions range from 10 to 60%. The charge–discharge current should not exceed the nominal current, since an increase in the current level to 2C leads to a decrease in the resource by 30%, and an increase of up to 4C results in a decrease of 47%. The proposed model allow for the determination of the optimal ranges of the state of charge and temperature modes of battery operation, which ensure maximum service life while maintaining the efficiency of the electric bus on the specified routes. The problem of predicting profitability is exceptionally relevant for investors and company owners making decisions about investment and business development. The global literature contains a number of studies where researchers predict the profitability of firms using various methods, including modern machine learning. However, these works hardly take advantage of panel data. This paper takes advantage of additional capabilities offered by panel data and proposes hybrid forecasting methods based on panel data, which allow significantly improving the accuracy of predicting the profitability. Our calculations show that when predicting the profitability, investors and company owners should take into account the profitability of the previous years and the trend in its change. The work shows that this approach can be successfully applied to high-tech companies whose profitability is characterised by increased volatility. Prediction forecasting includes STL-decomposition of time series, regression with random effects and machine learning (LSTM and CatBoost), and clustering. The training sample includes 1811 companies and data for 2013–2018 (panel data, 10,866 observations). The test sample contains data for these companies for 2019. As a result, the authors propose an approach significantly improving the accuracy of predicting ROA and ROE based on the panel nature of the data. The panel data allowed using the profitability of the previous years in forecast models and applying the STL-decomposition of the profitability of the previous years into three variables (Trend, Seasonal, and Residual), considerably improving the quality of the constructed forecast models (STL-CatBoost, STL-LSTM, and STL-RE hybrid models). Open-pit mining involves the use of vehicles with high load capacity and satisfactory mobility. As experience shows, these requirements are fully met by pneumatic wheeled dump trucks, the traction drives of which can be made using thermal or electric machines. The latter are preferable due to their environmental friendliness. Unlike dump trucks with thermal engines, which require fuel to be injected into them, electric trucks can be powered by various options of a power supply: centralized, autonomous, and combined. This paper highlights the advantages and disadvantages of different power supply systems depending on their schematic solutions and the quarry parameters for all the variants of the power supply of the dumper. Each quantitative indicator of each factor was changed under conditions consistent with the others. The steepness of the road elevation in the quarry and its length were the factors under study. The studies conducted show that the energy consumption for dump truck movement for all variants of a power supply practically does not change. Another group of factors consisted of electric energy sources, which were accumulator batteries and double electric layer capacitors. The analysis of energy efficiency and the regenerative braking system reveals low efficiency of regeneration when lifting the load from the quarry. In the process of lifting from the lower horizons of the quarry to the dump and back, kinetic energy is converted into heat, reducing the efficiency of regeneration considering the technological cycle of works. Taking these circumstances into account, removing the regenerative braking systems of open-pit electric dump trucks hauling soil or solid minerals from an open pit upwards seems to be economically feasible. Eliminating the regenerative braking system will simplify the design, reduce the cost of a dump truck, and free up usable volume effectively utilized to increase the capacity of the battery packs, allowing for longer run times without recharging and improving overall system efficiency. The problem of considering the length of the path for energy consumption per given gradient of the motion profile was solved. Full article

This paper investigates the application of recurrent neural networks, specifically Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models, for pressure forecasting in urban water supply systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of LSTM models for pressure prediction tasks. To acquire real-time pressure data, an information system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology using the MQTT protocol was proposed. The paper presents a data pre-processing algorithm for model training, as well as an analysis of the influence of various architectural parameters, such as the number of LSTM layers, the utilization of Dropout layers for regularization, and the number of neurons in Dense (fully connected) layers. The impact of seasonal factors, including month, day of the week, and time of day, on the pressure forecast quality was also investigated. The results obtained demonstrate that the optimal model consists of two LSTM layers, one Dropout layer, and one Dense layer. The incorporation of seasonal parameters improved prediction accuracy. The model training time increased significantly with the number of layers and neurons, but this did not always result in improved forecast accuracy. The results showed that the optimally tuned LSTM model can achieve high accuracy and outperform traditional methods such as the Holt–Winters model. This study confirms the effectiveness of using LSTM for forecasting in the water supply field and highlights the importance of pre-optimizing the model parameters to achieve the best forecasting results. For large cities with developing infrastructures, optimising water supply systems plays a crucial role. However, without a clear understanding of the network structure and water consumption patterns, addressing these challenges becomes significantly more complex. This paper proposes a methodology for geospatial data analysis aimed at solving two key tasks. The first is the delineation of service zones for infrastructure objects to enhance system manageability. The second involves the development of an approach for the optimal placement of devices to collect and transmit hydraulic network parameters, ensuring their alignment with both water supply sources and serviced areas. The study focuses on data from the water supply network of a city with a population exceeding half a million people, where hierarchical clustering using Ward’s method was applied to analyse territorial distribution. Four territorial clusters were identified, each characterised by unique attributes reflecting consumer concentration and water consumption volumes. The cluster boundaries were compared with the existing service scheme of the system, confirming their alignment with real infrastructure. The quality of clustering was further evaluated using the silhouette coefficient, which validated the high accuracy and reliability of the chosen approach. The paper demonstrates the effectiveness of cluster boundary visualisation for assessing the uniform distribution of pressure sensors within the urban water supply network. The results of the study show that integrating geographic data with water consumption information not only facilitates effective infrastructure planning and resource allocation but also lays the foundation for the digitalization of the hydraulic network, a critical component of sustainable development in modern smart cities. The article theoretically justified and experimentally confirmed the possibility of implementing the process of the electric melting of Satbayevskiy ilmenite concentrates with new fluxing additives based on oxides and nitrides of aluminium, calcium, and boron. They also include boron carbonitride CNV that will expand the raw material base of Kazakhstan titanium production by involving local substandard material in the process, as well as the technical and economic performance of electric melting. In order to conduct experiments in the area of extremum, the ilmenite concentrate from the Satbayev deposit was taken. Furthermore, the optimum conditions of the electric melting of Satbayevski ilmenite concentrates (such as the process temperature of 1550–1600 °C, the reducing agent consumption of 8–10% of the concentrate mass, and the duration of 90 min), using new fluxing additives, were selected. As a result of the experiment (performed at a temperature of 1600 °C), it has been found that the introduction of 3 to 6% of fluxes in the charge of electric melting promotes the reduction of iron oxides from 45 to 80% and achievement of the extraction of titanium oxide in slag of up to 83.5–90.1%. The addition of 6% boron oxide and carbonitride in the charge of electric melting reduces the melting temperature of the charge to ~1400–1450 °C and the melting time to 90 min. It also creates conditions for a quieter electric melting mode. Full article

Combining wind and hydropower facilities makes it possible to solve the problems caused by power supply shortages in areas that are remote from the central energy system. Hydropower plants and highly manoeuvrable hydroelectric units successfully compensate for the uneven power outputs from wind power plants, and the limitations associated with them are significantly reduced when they are integrated into the regional energy system. Such an integration contributes to increasing the efficiency of renewable energy sources, which in turn reduces our dependence on fossil resources and decreases their harmful impact on the environment, increasing the stability of the power supply to consumers. The results of optimisation calculations show that a consumer load security of 95% allows the set capacity of RESs to be used in the energy complex up to 700 MW. It is shown here that the joint operation of HPPs and WPPs as part of a power complex and hydraulic energy storage allows for the creation of a stable power supply system that can operate even in conditions of variable wind force or uneven water flow. The conclusions obtained allow us to say that the combination of hydro- and wind power facilities makes it possible to solve the problem of power supply deficits in the regions of Kazakhstan that are remote from the central power station. At the same time, hydroelectric power plants and highly manoeuvrable hydroelectric units successfully compensate for the uneven power output from wind power plants and significantly reduce the limitations associated with them during their integration into the regional energy system. This work presents the results of thermodynamic and technological studies of the reducing electric smelting of low-quality and difficult-to-recover Satpaevsk ilmenite concentrates in the presence of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as a flux. In the course of thermodynamic studies, according to literature data and using the HSC Chemistry 8 program, the state diagrams of the FeO-TiO2, FeO-Fe2O3-TiO2, Na2O-TiO2, Na2O-SiO2, Ti-C-O and Fe-C-O systems and the possibility of reactions in the temperature range of 500–1600 °C (without smelting of titanium, 1678 °C), taking into account phase transitions, were studied. The article also presents the results of technological studies of the above process. In general, the research results showed the possibility of using sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as a flux in the charge of the electric smelting of low-quality Satpaevsk ilmenite concentrates. It has been established that the addition of 4.5–5% of Na2CO3 allows for reducing the temperature and the duration of electric smelting, the viscosity of the melt, and the complete separation of the smelting products (cast iron from slag). The evaluation and prediction of reliability and testability of mining machinery and equipment are crucial, as advancements in mining technology have increased the importance of ensuring the safety of both the technological process and human life. This study focuses on developing a reliability model to analyze the controllability of mining equipment. The model, which examines the reliability of a mine cargo-passenger hoist, utilizes statistical methods to assess failures and diagnostic controlled parameters. It is represented as a transition graph and is supported by a system of equations. This model enables the estimation of the reliability of equipment components and the equipment as a whole through a diagnostic system designed for monitoring and controlling mining equipment. A mathematical and logical model is proposed to calculate availability and downtime coefficients for different structures within the mining equipment system. This analysis considers the probability of failure-free operation of the lifting unit based on the structural scheme, with additional redundancy for elements with lower reliability. The availability factor of the equipment for monitoring and controlling the mine hoisting plant is studied for various placements of diagnostic systems. Additionally, a logistic concept is introduced for organizing preventive maintenance systems and reducing equipment recovery time by optimizing spare parts, integrating them into strategies aimed at enhancing the reliability of mine hoisting plants. To date, composite materials, such as polymer concrete, have found wide application in various industries due to their unique properties combining high strength, resistance to aggressive media and durability. Improving the performance characteristics of polymer concrete is an important task aimed at expanding the areas of its application. One of the promising methods of increasing the strength of this material is the use of various fillers. In this paper, the effect of fillers, based on carbon and basalt fibres, on the mechanical properties of polymer concrete was investigated. The polymer concrete was made of the following components: rubble stone, sand, quartz flour and polyester resin. During the experimental work, the amount of carbon and basalt fibres in the polymer concrete mixture varied from 0 to 6%. Bending and compressive strength tests showed that the addition of carbon and basalt fibres increased these properties. The highest bending and compressive strengths were achieved when carbon fibre contents were up to 1.5%, while basalt fibres provided the highest strengths in the case of around 2%. These results confirmed that carbon fibres had a higher efficiency in strengthening polymer concrete compared to that of basalt fibres. This could be explained by the fact that carbon fibres had a higher tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, which allowed them to better redistribute loads within the composite material. The fibre length for carbon fibre, which gave the maximum increase in properties, was 10–15 mm. For basalt fibre, the maximum bending strength was reached at 20 mm and compressive strength at 10 mm. Increasing the content of carbon fibre above 2% and basalt fibre above 1.5% did not give further increase in mechanical properties. In conclusion, it could be stated that the use of carbon fibres as fillers offered significant advantages in strengthening polymer concrete, opening up opportunities for its use in more demanding conditions and in a wider range of industrial applications.
