Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you and/or your colleagues to submit your manuscript for possible publication in our journal Water (ISSN: 2073-4441). The journal is organizing a Special Issue on "Emerging Technologies in Wastewater Treatment", which accepts research articles, reviews, and letters covering all areas of wastewater treatment.

Water (Special Issue on Emerging Technologies in Wastewater Treatment) publishes original research papers and reviews on all aspects of the emerging technologies in wastewater treatment, water quality, and its management worldwide. A broad outline of the issue's scope includes:

  • Treatment processes for wastewaters (municipal, agricultural, industrial, and on-site treatment), including resource recovery and wastewater management;
  • Black and odorous water body treatment;
  • Public health and risk assessment about wastewater;
  • Contaminants (chemical, microbial, emerging contaminants, nanoparticles and microplastics) and related water quality sensing, monitoring, fate, and assessment;
  • Environmental restoration, including groundwater remediation and river basin pollution control;
  • Analysis of the interfaces between sediments and water.

The emphasis will be on publishing high-quality articles rapidly. It will be a great honor for us to publish your manuscript and promote among the different academic platforms and social media.

The submission deadline is 31 December 2022.

In order to improve the removal efficiencies of SS and Fe3+ in anaerobic digestion reject water for the subsequent biological treatment process, on the basis of the single factor test in the early stage, the response surface method was used, and the structure of the formed floc was analyzed by magnetic flocculation. The optimum amounts of magnetic powder, polyaluminum chloride (PAC) and polyacrylamide (PAM) were 40.51 mg/L, 31.31 mg/L and 4.05 mg/L, respectively. At this time, the removal efficiencies of SS and Fe3+ were 97.84% and 98.35%. The effects of floc particle size, scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and two-dimensional fractal dimension of flocs on the flocculation ability showed that: compared with conventional coagulation, the average particle size of flocs treated by magnetic flocculation was 76.56 μm, the Fe-O-Al absorption peak appeared at 984 cm−1, the flocculation ability was significantly improved, the surface of the floc was rough and porous, and the structure was dense, and the sedimentation performance was significantly improved also. A coagulation treatment is a separation technology widely used in industries as a pre-treatment step to remove the dissolved organic matter in wastewater. However, the type of coagulant, the optimized dose, and the treatment cost associated with various commercially employed coagulants must be investigated for the treatment of oil and gas produced water. In this study, five widely employed coagulants—ferric chloride, aluminum potassium sulphate, chitosan, sodium sulfide, and magnesium oxide—were tested for the treatment of actual complex oilfield-generated produced water. Water quality parameters such as the total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, salinity, and pH were assessed for a better understanding of different coagulant activities against the produced water treatment. All the coagulants were efficient for the treatment of produced water. The findings of this study showed that ferric chloride led to the best removal of total solids (74.25%) of all water quality parameters, with treatment costs of USD 4 per m−3 of produced water. The results from this study contribute to the environmentally friendly, broader, and cost-effective application of a coagulation treatment to produced water. Full article
