Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Groundwater contamination is a widespread problem around the world, with contaminants originating from various sources such as agriculture, residential areas (urban or rural), industry, landfills, road infrastructure, etc. Contaminated groundwater can pose a significant risk to human health when is used for example as a source for drinking water or irrigation, but could also negatively impact the quality of downgradient aquatic ecosystems (e.g. coastal waters, lakes, etc.) receiving the contaminated groundwater. Numerous models describing the fate and transport of contaminants in the groundwater have been developed to provide a simplified representation of processes occurring in hydrogeological systems. These models can have various degrees of complexity, depending on the purpose of the model, site-specific conditions or needs, availability of input data, degree of integration with other environmental processes (e.g. surface water, processes at the surface of the ground or in the unsaturated or saturated zones, etc.), etc. In this special issue contributions covering a wide range of topics (see contaminant sources mentioned above) related to the development and/or application of contaminant fate and transport models in groundwater are welcome. Aside from being scientifically sound and relevant to the Special Issue topic, the contributions must highlight the new insights and/or novelty of the study as well as the relevance for the topic approached.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
