Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focus toward the downstream consequences of extreme weather events and the human, ecological, and infrastructural systems that affect the water of the Earth System. As weather-driven disasters continue to intensify across regional scales, there is a growing imperative to understand not only their atmospheric origins but also their cascading impacts on communities, ecosystems, economies, and critical infrastructure.
We invite original research articles, perspectives, case studies, review papers, and interdisciplinary studies that examine the societal and environmental dimensions of weather-driven disasters, including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, wildfires, Arctic bursts, and heatwaves. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, vulnerability and exposure assessment of human and natural systems, socioeconomic impacts of extreme weather at regional and local scales, disaster risk reduction frameworks and policy responses, early warning systems and their effectiveness in reducing harm, urban and rural resilience strategies under changing climate conditions, environmental degradation, and ecosystem disruption following extreme events, impacts across marginalized and ignored regions/communities.
This Special Issue aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue among meteorologists, climatologists, geographers, social scientists, urban planners, and policy makers, integrating physical and social sciences to build a more comprehensive understanding of disaster risk. Contributions employing innovative data sources including remote sensing, citizen science, and integrated modeling frameworks are especially encouraged.
Through this collection, we hope to bridge the gap between atmospheric science and disaster management practice, ultimately contributing to more resilient, informed, and adaptive societies in the face of escalating weather-driven hazards.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
