Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Waterfowl are distributed worldwide, and waterfowl farming has become a traditional industry in some countries (such as China and other Asian countries). With the rapid development of large-scale aquaculture of waterfowl and the prohibition of adding antibiotics to feed, the importance of prevention and control of waterfowl diseases, especially bacterial diseases such as Riemerella anatipestifer infection, colibacillosis (caused by avian Escherichia coli), Salmonella infection, and fowl cholera (caused by Pasteurella multocida), etc., is becoming increasingly prominent. In addition, the problem of antibiotic resistance is becoming more and more serious. Therefore, conducting research on the pathogen biology and control of important bacterial diseases in waterfowl is crucial for the prevention and control of these diseases.

This Special Issue will focus on the research of pathogen biology and control of important bacterial diseases in waterfowl. The research content of the article can include the latest research progress in bacteria-host interaction, virulence factors and their regulation, biofilm, iron acquisition, antibiotic resistance, new vaccine development, bacteriophages and their applications in the treatment of related bacterial infections, as well as diagnostic technology. This Special Issue will include original research papers and review articles.

We propose this Special Issue with the aim of strengthening information exchange and collaboration between frontline veterinarians and veterinary scientific researchers in this field, and it is hoped that this Special Issue will further stimulate collaboration between scientists engaged in the research of waterfowl bacterial diseases.
