Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to submit your studies on the topic “Intelligent Manufacturing Systems and Urban Eco Design”, with an aim to gather and promote innovative tools and methods in modern manufacturing, design approaches, and techniques oriented towards sustainable and eco-friendly futures.
Recent technological advancements and the emerging global problems related to pollution and climate change, as well as the increasing demand for both industrial and consumer products, suggest that the typical production-oriented manufacturing environment must be replaced by a more data-driven, automated, and smart manufacturing hub. Smart manufacturing contributes to the development of smart cities, by satisfying both the sustainability and ecological issues, in addition to the technological perspective.
Therefore, we encourage both researchers and practitioners to submit original research and review articles, in addition to case studies and critical perspectives on topics including, but not limited to:
- Intelligent manufacturing systems
- Smart manufacturing for smart cities
- Industry 4.0 and sustainable manufacturing systems
- Internet of Things (IoT) and smart manufacturing
- Digital twin-based manufacturing systems
- Green manufacturing and cleaner production
- Eco design
- Sustainable product design
- Artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing monitoring
- Cloud-based manufacturing
- Cyber-physical production systems
- Sensor implementation in smart manufacturing
- Smart factories integration in urban areas
- Integration of robotics in smart manufacturing

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
