Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Leishmaniasis, a vector-borne disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, remains a significant global health concern. The disease presents in multiple forms, each with its unique clinical manifestations, epidemiological characteristics, and therapeutic challenges. This Special Issue will center on the intricate facets of leishmaniasis, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of research required to comprehensively understand and combat it.

Our intention is to cast a wide net, capturing a spectrum of research from foundational biology of the Leishmania parasite to the broader socio-economic implications of the disease. We invite submissions that delve into molecular mechanisms, transmission dynamics, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions. Beyond the science, we are keen on exploring the disease's impact on endemic communities, public health strategies for its control, and the policies that shape these strategies. With leishmaniasis affecting multiple regions globally, we also encourage comparative studies, shedding light on regional disparities in disease presentation, management, and outcomes. The overarching aim of this Special Issue is threefold:

  1. To consolidate the latest research on leishmaniasis, providing a platform for knowledge dissemination;
  2. To foster collaboration amongst researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and community stakeholders, driving a unified approach to tackle the disease;
  3. To guide future research by identifying gaps in our current understanding and highlighting the most promising areas of inquiry.

For potential authors, this Special Issue presents an opportunity to contribute to a growing body of work on leishmaniasis with interesting case reports, research articles, reviews, and commentaries. Whether your expertise lies in bench research, clinical practice, public health, or policy-making, your insights will enrich our collective understanding and facilitate meaningful progress in managing this global health challenge.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs).
