Dear Colleagues,
Symmetry plays a fundamental and unifying role in the theoretical understanding of physical systems, from the smallest scales of particle physics to the largest structures in the Universe. In stellar astrophysics, symmetry principles are deeply embedded in the equations governing stellar structure, stability, and evolution. From simplified stellar models based on spherical symmetry to the more complex symmetry breakings that arise in rotating, magnetized, or binary stars, the language of symmetry offers profound insights into the nature of stellar objects.
We are pleased to invite you, as experts in the field, to contribute a research paper or short review to this Special Issue. We welcome theoretical, computational, and interdisciplinary contributions that address fundamental questions, propose novel frameworks, or highlight symmetry-guided applications in stellar physics. This Special Issue aims to foster dialogue in the astrophysics and astroparticle communities, emphasizing the central role of symmetry in advancing our understanding of stars and their complex dynamics.
This Special Issue of Symmetry invites contributions that explore the multifaceted role of symmetry in stellar astrophysics. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The application of group theoretical methods in modeling stellar interiors and atmospheres;
- Symmetry-based constraints for radiative transfer;
- The role of symmetry in stellar oscillations and asteroseismology;
- The breaking of spherical symmetry: implications of rotation, magnetic fields, and anisotropic pressures;
- Noether symmetries in modified gravity theories applied to stellar models;
- Symmetry in numerical simulations and stability analyses of stellar evolution;
- Spontaneous symmetry restoration and phase transitions in high-density environments;
- Neutrino transport, flavor oscillations, and instabilities;
- Axions and other (pseudo)Goldstone bosons: their impact on stellar cooling and evolution.
The papers will be peer-reviewed and published online as soon as they are accepted. We are looking forward to hearing about your contributions to this Special Issue and the potential future collaboration in producing a comprehensive Special Issue.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
