Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Although a great deal of research has been done in the last decade in the field of land use cover change (LUCC) modelling, important challenges have not yet been fully addressed. Noteworthy is the persistent gap between modelling research and the practical use and implementation of LUCC modelling tools. This Special Issue aims to be a step forward in the process of filling this gap. Toward this end, we invite all authors working in the LUCC modelling field to contribute to this Special Issue by submitting a piece of research that addresses this challenge.

Special interest will be given to reviews and novel pieces of research addressing—but not limited to—the following topics:

  • The modeller–stakeholder relation in LUCC modelling and its progress;
  • LUCC modelling advances in the last decade and their practical implementation;
  • Standard LUCC modelling tools already tested and applied in practice;
  • Participative and innovative methods for model calibration and validation that aid to break the modeller–stakeholder gap;
  • Real examples of LUCC modelling tools applied in practice to solve policy needs;
  • Communication of model results and uncertainties.
