Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Seven years have passed since we published our balance on the situation of the Ceramic Tile Industry regarding sustainability issues (Gabaldón-Estevan, Criado, and Monfort, 2014), and whereas most of what we claimed there is even more relevant today, we feel that seven years is enough time for an update on what has been achieved by the ceramic industry, what challenges persist, and what new issues have appeared. That is why we focus on and address the community of scholars who have contributed in recent years to research on the sustainability of the Ceramic Tile Industry worldwide, in order to provide insights into what has been done and what remains to be achieved by the industry and its innovation system.

The Special Issue aims to attract works on any element of the Ceramic Tile value chain that plays a role in the sustainability transition of the Ceramic Tile Industry. This scope will be mainly focused on new challenges such as energy consumption and sources, associated GHG emissions, circular economy, environmental impacts based on the life cycle perspective, and emerging pollutants, among others, but also contextual aspects affecting the performance of the innovation system like the legal framework, issues related to industry legitimacy, and market evolution.

As we stated in the title, the purpose of the Special Issue is to update the state-of-the-art regarding the Ceramic Industry Transition to a Sustainable Model, and by so doing, to become a reference for researchers in both ceramic tile industry and sustainability transition literatures.
