Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, “Integrated Sustainability Management: Linking Operations, Energy-Efficient Supply Chains, and Innovation Systems”, aims to explore the crucial intersection of sustainability with operational efficiency, supply chain resilience, and technological innovation. It stems from growing global awareness of the interconnected challenges of environmental degradation, economic volatility, and social inequality. As organizations address the increasing pressure to embed sustainability into core functions, a holistic and systemic approach is needed to bridge traditionally siloed domains and foster coherence across strategic, operational, and innovation-oriented activities.

This Special Issue explores the synergistic integration of sustainability principles into operational processes, extended supply chains, and innovation systems. As sustainability is no longer a peripheral concern but a strategic priority, organizations are called to rethink value creation through resource efficiency, circular economy, ethical governance, technological innovation, and stakeholder collaboration. This Special Issue will address the transformative impact of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and big data analytics. These technologies optimize logistics and supply chain management through real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, improved decision making, and reduced downtime.

The scope of this Special Issue will encompass topics such as energy efficiency, escalating energy demand, energy cost control, energy infrastructure capacity, vehicle decarbonization, risk management, the influence of government policies, renewable energy policies, and the integration of digital technology. These themes offer a comprehensive view of the dynamic landscape within the energy sector, highlighting critical aspects influencing logistics and supply chain management while exploring innovative trends and solutions.

While the existing literature on sustainability management often focuses on isolated aspects of operations, supply chains, or innovation systems, this Special Issue aims to bridge these gaps by promoting an integrated approach. Its purpose is to present and discuss the transformative changes driven by the integration of digitization, sustainability, and resilience in logistics and supply chains, demonstrating how these elements boost efficiency and position organizations for success.
