Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Effective food management plays a key role in building a sustainable environment. It encompasses both food waste reduction and the responsible planning of food production, distribution, and consumption. Efficient food management involves, among other things, proper purchasing, optimal product storage conditions, quality assurance at every stage of the supply chain, as well as consumer education and the implementation of technologies that enable the recovery or reuse of surplus food.

Food waste poses a significant challenge to resource management and the implementation of sustainable development strategies. Reducing it helps lower greenhouse gas emissions and conserve valuable resources such as water and energy.

At both organizational and national levels, implementing food waste monitoring systems and educating stakeholders throughout the food chain on responsible food management are essential for protecting the environment. Well-designed programs not only raise environmental awareness and provide theoretical knowledge but also encourage practical actions—such as creating compost bins, planning purchases, or participating in local initiatives.

Through education, consumers can develop pro-environmental skills and apply them in everyday life. Such activities support both the protection of the planet and the building of more responsible communities. A sustainable approach to food management not only safeguards the environment but also brings significant economic and social benefits.

This Special Issue will include a selection of recent research and current review articles about the following:

  1. Food management.
  2. Strategies to reduce food waste.
  3. Sustainable food consumption and production.
  4. Educational programs and campaigns to raise awareness of the problem of food waste.
  5. Strategies for Environmental Sustainability.
