Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) and operations management (OM) have become considerably important in the context of global environmental challenges and regulatory and consumer pressures for better ethical practices. SSCM integrates environmental, social, and economic objectives into supply chain activities, while OM focuses on efficiently transforming efforts and inputs into productions and outputs. They aim to balance productivity with sustainability across the entire value chain (Sarkis, 2019; Seuring and Müller, 2008).
The field of SSCM has evolved to become more theoretically rich and methodologically rigorous, from isolated research in social and environmental areas to the development of social responsibility and the navigation of complex sustainability challenges (Carter and Easton, 2011). SSCM concurrently integrates ecological, economic, and societal measures of operations in supply chains. Organizations today need to take a more holistic approach and evaluate not just their operations but also operations across the supply chain, taking into consideration all three sustainability metrics (Mangla et al., 2020).
This Special Issue will expand the existing literature through its interdisciplinary nature. It will build upon theories such as the Resource-Based View (Shibin et al., 2020) and Triple Bottom Line (Adwiyah et al., 2023), offering frameworks for sustainable business practices. In addition, this issue will also include empirical implementation related to environmental issues, social issues, and digital transformation toward sustainability (see, for example, Seuring et al., 2022). Both practitioners in companies and academics will find the Special Issue useful, as it will outline major lines of research in the field and stimulate further progress.
