The Rise of Neo-Entrepreneurship: Redefining Business for a New Era
This special issue belongs to the section “Economic and Business Aspects of Sustainability“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The emergence of "neo-entrepreneurs" necessitates a paradigm shift in our understanding of entrepreneurship. A transition from traditional, ascetic values towards more hedonistic and romantic ideals is observed among entrepreneurs and society. Future-ready entrepreneurs will require a diverse skill set emphasizing adaptability, creativity, and the ability to thrive in dynamic, collaborative environments. Neo-entrepreneurs will prioritize personal growth, individual expression, and collaborative ventures that foster collective creativity.
There is a special link between neo-entrepreneurship and sustainability: neo-entrepreneurship encourages the development of technologies and business models that reduce environmental impact, drives economic resilience, builds adaptive business, and creates green and tech-based jobs. In addition, startups promote local economic development and diversification, while agile business models support long-term viability and scalability.
Neo-entrepreneurship aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); many neo-entrepreneurial ventures directly support the SDGs by reducing poverty and inequality, ensuring responsible consumption and production, advancing climate action and sustainable communities, and encouraging ethical and purpose-driven leadership.
Neo-entrepreneurs are often guided by a dual mission: profit and purpose. This shift drives transparency and accountability, long-term value creation over short-term gain, and impact-oriented decision-making.
In this Special Issue, original research articles, literature reviews, methods, tools, scientifically sound case studies, and approaches are welcomed, including topics on managing the complexities inherent in the contemporary vision of entrepreneurship, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and the leveraging of emerging technologies, with the following key characteristics: exhibit digital innovation and entrepreneurship; innovation-driven: focus on creating novel products, services, or business models; technology-oriented: frequently utilize digital tools, platforms, and automation; socially conscious: often aim to address social or environmental issues alongside making profit; and agile and adaptable: operate in dynamic environments with lean and flexible approaches.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
