Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue, “Synergies in Food System Transformation: Integrating Technology, Policy, and Human Behavior”, focuses on the interdisciplinary challenges and opportunities associated with transforming food systems to become environmentally sustainable, socially equitable, economically resilient, and health-promoting. While the scope encompasses the entire food system—from production and processing to distribution, consumption, and waste management—this Special Issue places particular emphasis on how the underlying synergies among technological innovation, policy frameworks, and human behavior can drive systemic change.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to bring together researchers from sustainability science, agriculture, food technology, economics, behavioral science, and policy studies to advance knowledge on the drivers, barriers, and pathways toward sustainable food system transformation. Topics of interest are organized around these three pillars: technological advancements (e.g., alternative protein sources, climate-smart agriculture, agroecology), behavioral shifts (e.g., consumer acceptance, sustainable diets), and structural enablers (e.g., food governance, policy interventions, circular economy approaches, and sustainability assessment tools).
This Special Issue seeks to complement the existing literature by integrating technology, policy, and human behavior perspectives that are too often examined in isolation. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, it explores how these synergistic approaches can effectively address climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, resource efficiency, public health, and social equity. Ultimately, this Special Issue aims to support the design and implementation of holistic practices and policies that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote resilient food systems for future generations.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
