Climate Change, Energy Policy and Sustainability

This special issue belongs to the section “Social Ecology and Sustainability“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a new Special Issue of Sustainability entitled “Climate Change, Energy Policy and Sustainability”.

Addressing climate change requires the transformation of global energy systems at a fundamental level. While the global consensus moves toward the goal of net-zero emissions, the pathway to achieving this involves complex interactions between technological innovation, economic viability, and regulatory frameworks. Policymakers are currently facing the "energy trilemma": the challenge of balancing energy security, social equity, and environmental sustainability.

The transition to a low-carbon economy presents significant challenges. These include the uneven pace of decarbonization across developed and developing nations, the financial risks associated with stranded assets, and the lack of resilience of energy infrastructure against increasingly severe weather events. Furthermore, effective policy instruments must be optimized to accelerate sustainable development without hindering economic stability.

This Special Issue aims to explore the dynamic nexus between climate mitigation strategies and energy policymaking. We seek research that investigates how robust policy interventions can foster a sustainable energy future. We invite authors to submit contributions on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Pathways to carbon neutrality and net-zero strategies;
  • Impact assessment of climate and energy policies;
  • Economic analysis of the energy transition;
  • Energy security in the era of climate change;
  • Green finance, investment, and ESG;
  • Social acceptance and public values in energy transitions;
  • International cooperation and climate governance.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
