Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is complex and can vary depending on various factors such as the stage of a country's development, technological advancements, and energy policies. Generally, there is a positive correlation between energy consumption and economic growth, meaning that as energy consumption increases, so does economic growth. One of the reasons for this correlation is that energy consumption is considered to be a key factor in production and economic activities. The availability of energy resources such as oil, coal, and natural gas allows for the operation of various industries and the production of goods and services. This, in turn, drives economic growth. However, it is important to note that the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is not always linear, and in some cases, the relationship may become negative if energy consumption exceeds the capacity of the environment to absorb it or if energy prices become prohibitively high. Additionally, advances in energy efficiency and the shift towards renewable energy sources can also play a role in reducing the link between energy consumption and economic growth. Ultimately, the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is dynamic and depends on a variety of factors that can change over time.

The relationship between energy consumption, economic growth, and sustainability is complex. Energy consumption drives economic growth but also contributes to environmental degradation. Achieving sustainability requires finding a balance between economic development and environmental protection through policies promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Scientific research into the relationship between energy consumption, economic growth, and sustainability is important because it provides insights and understanding into the interplay between these factors, which can inform policy and decision-making. This Special Issue aims to shed light on research which can provide a solid foundation for decision making, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring that energy consumption and economic growth are aligned with environmental protection and the goal of sustainability.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Energy-Economy-Environment Modeling;
  • Energy and Development;
  • Energy and Innovation;
  • Energy and Trade.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
