Dear Colleagues,
The global food system demands that food delivery be safe, healthy and of premium quality while minimising environmental impact and the use of supply chains. Front-line Food Processing Technologies in the Sustainable Food Industry play a crucial role in addressing these issues by increasing efficiency, minimising waste and advancing sustainable food manufacturing. This Special Issue aims to introduce innovative Advanced Food Processing Technologies for the Sustainable Food Industry across the entire supply chain. It will include cross-disciplinary research on the development of technologies, process improvements, innovative digital technologies and environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures.
This is an invitation to submit original work: primary research, reviews and case study papers that illustrate Advanced Food Processing Technologies for premium food quality, safety, shelf life and functionality in a sustainable manner, while simultaneously reducing energy use, water waste and carbon emissions. Potential topics related to this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced emerging technologies in food processing
- Smart food industry
- Minimising food waste and by-products
- Developing food packages, extending Shelf-life and designing sustainable processes
- Regulatory and policy perspectives and case studies in supporting sustainable food manufacturing
- Alternative functional and novel foods

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
